Album Description

Metropolis Records presents more KMFDM Classic re-releases. These long out of print essentials from the band's Wax Trax! Records days have been unavailable for years. Now, Metropolis Records is putting them out in the order in which they debuted. The next releases to be made available are two of the aces in the deck of the KMFDM back catalog, 1995's Nihil and 1996's Xtort. These records contain a veritable who's who of hard alternative music at the time. KMFDM leader and founder Sascha K. conducts a crew featuring the likes of Chris Connelly (Ministry, Rev. Co.), Raymond Watts (Pig), Bill Rieflin (Ministry) and F.M. Einheit (Einsturzende Neubauten). While KMFDM has always been about creating a legacy of quality and never focused on mainstream success, it must be noted that Nihil contains the hit single "Juke Joint Jezebel" and Xtort features the indie favorites "Power" and "Son Of A Gun". These albums have both been given the deluxe treatment which includes all new booklets that have been expanded to 24 pages to include some exciting new material. All KMFDM Classic re-releases have been digitally remastered, presenting their songs in a quality previously unavailable. Documenting the history of KMFDM the accompanying CD booklets all include the original album art (most by famed KMFDM co-conspirator Brute!), in-depth liner notes, quotes from Sascha K., lyrics for each song, never before seen photos of the band, full recording and production credits and more. All work on these releases, from the remastering to the packaging, has been done with the highest level of participation from Sascha K. These releases join KMFDM's first six albums, What Do You Know, Deutschland?, Don't Blow Your Top, UAIOE, Naïve, Money and Angst which are already available from Metropolis Records. Look for the remaining KMFDM Classics, Symbols and Adios, coming soon. The next phase of the legacy begins, KMFDM is back to prove that the rules do not apply! Celebrate chaos, get into the noise!

5 out of 5 stars It's about time!.......2007-06-24

Here it is...Nihil re-released, digitally remastered, new label, and same great songs...only now they sound louder and better. Remember, re-mastered is not the same as remixed. It's still the same songs only now they sound like they just came out this year. The qaulity is excellent and up to par with anything else you would find on a recent Metropolis record. Ok, now about the CD, ...great KMFDM CD, with Raymond Watts (PIG) on vocals. Includes the famous KMFDM hit "Juke Joint Jezebel", and the rest of the songs are mighty cool as well. Great album for fans of Foetus, 16 Volt, Sister Machine Gun, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, and early Marilyn Manson.

Here is a breif summury of the tracks:

1. ULTRA - powerful electro industrial anthem to kick the album into gear. It's a song about setting yourself apart from a conformist society and feeling the true passion of your freedom.

2. JUKE JOINT JEZEBEL - A huge KMFDM hit in the industrial dance clubs. The lyrics are open to interpretation, but IMO, it's about drugs.

3. FLESH - A metal song that seems to be about self forgiveness.

4. Beast - starts off with these acidic sounding organs that clashes into coldwave electronica and rock. Lyrics open to interpretation, IMO, a song about self revelation and being proud of your dark side.

5. TERROR - a verry industrial sounding rock song that uses a political metaphor.

6. SEARCH AND DESTROY - Another industrial metal anthem to non comformity.

7. DISOBEDIENCE - A melodic downbeat industrial song that boosts into some 80's hairband sounding guitars. Lyrics about being oblivious and blind to the a world that is socially inept.

8. REVOLUTION - Coldwave beats put to lyrics about self becoming after a near death situation.

9. BRUTE - Coldwave electronica about a drug and alcohol downward spiral that evoles into a mutation of deacadent self love.

10. TRUST - Another industrial metal anthem to non conformity and self revelation.

11. NIHIL - Instrumental track that would please fans of industrial noise music.

1 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware.......2007-02-25

I give this one star not because I dislike the album. In fact it is amazing and I encourage all my friends to buy it. However, the album you are looking at above is the TVT version and is now out of print. Metropolis Records is re-releasing this album on March 6th with an additional bonus track. You can find the pre-order by doing a search for Nihil.

Get this album only if you are a completest. Otherwise get the new version like I am.

5 out of 5 stars One of the very best from KMFDM........2006-07-22

Sure, since MDFMK, they have become probably one of the most revered industrial bands out there; but this is a personal favorite of mine, pre-MDFMK. Recognized the first track, "Ultra," right away when I saw a trailer for Manga and just had to start dancing. "Disobedience" has to be my favorite track on the album - truly unique for KMFDM's style, but certainly a treat, accompanied by brass instruments and an amazing guitar riff that knocked me flat on my back. If you like KMFDM and have not yet heard this album, I would highly recommend it. It's worth its money.

5 out of 5 stars addictive little industrial gem.......2006-02-13

this is definately among my top industrial albums...that i have heard. the other kmfdm cds being out of print really doesnt help a curious mind at all. if you want this album cheap, go get it on ebay. i don't think there are any over 20 dollars. i have yet to get angst, symbols and the other out of print kmfdm albums, but im going to end up getting them.

is it just me, or is all the good music going out of print and STAYING there?

oh well, it only makes kmfdm's old stuff seem like a delicacy which is a good thing.

5 out of 5 stars harder than the rest.......2006-02-08

This is not as dark as some reviews say it is. Well at least its not as dark as some of the music I listen to, but it is definantly awsome. It kind of picks up where angst left off with the guitars, but on this cd Ramond Watts is in the mix. This is probably the most popular KMFDM cd. Especially with Hits like Juke Joint Jezebell.
Ultra 6/10 At first I thought this song was awsome but overtime it got boring
Juke Joint Jezebel 8/10 This is the song that gets most people into KMFDM. I think its a good song but I can think of about 25 other songs from them Id rather here. Dont get me wrong this one is fun, but when I think of KMFDM I think of songs like,Flesh, Glory, Dogma, Anarchy, Free your hate, apathy and stray bullet.
Flesh 10/10 speaking about flesh this is the first great song on this cd. Watts does an excellent job on the vocalls and the guitars just kick ass. This one should definantly be one of there more popular songs.
Beast 9/10 I really like this one. Its got fun lyrics and great music
Terror 10/10 Great beat and great lyrics. Really catchy. The first time I heard this one I couldnt get it out of my head all day
Search and Destroy 10/10 Another of my favorites. It is really fast and energetic. Great lyrics "will we close our eyes and fall for their lies, or will we make the conclusion that this lifes a dilousion.
Disobediance 9/10 When I bought this cd I never would have thought that I would like this song. But it grew on me and now its one of my favorite songs on here. If your not used to horns give this one time and it will make a fan out of you.
Revolution 8/10 Beautiful singing from Darona. She is my second favorite KMFDM female vocalist after of course the sexy Lucia.
Brute 10/10 Another hard song. once again watts is the man . The guitars ar really good.
Trust 8/10 this one reminds me of brute and beast in a way. Pretty good song to close out the cd.
This is one of the most important cds to buy. If you can find it under 15 dollars pick it up right away. Its out of print. I bought it at 25 and it was worth it, but the day after somebody was selling it for 10$. F$%k!

4 out of 5 stars Not the best, but it's great........2005-11-02

It's amazing how many reviews I've read touting this album as the best KMFDM album there is. While I agree that it is great, it's certainly not the best. That honor belongs to either Symbols or Naive (the original, not Hell to Go).

This album is a great place to start for any KMFDM newcomer, and it's also a great one to pick up if you're a longtime KMFDM fan. I guess basically what I'm trying to say is that this is an excellent album to pick up. Period.

Many of the small compositions here are intellectually stimulating, others are touching, some are both - and all are beautiful.
One of many great performances by Huelgas Ensemble and its director Paul Van Nevel. Much of their CDs are sadly out of print, so I recommend to order this one before it is too late!

5 out of 5 stars stunning.......2007-07-01

there's a warmth and compassion to rosenmuller's music, perhaps deriving from his troubled life ....... konrad junghanel wonderfully brings together his favored vocalists and instrumentalists ( even a few from his early days with reinhard goebel ) and invites the ever-incredible concerto palatino to provide the authentic hornwork, so how could the result be anything less than lovely?

5 out of 5 stars An excellent performance.......2005-08-10

Seriously, what else can you expect from Cantus Colln but exceptional musicality. I bought this cd because I enjoyed Geistliche Kantaten so much. I enthusiastically recommemd this album to baroque music lovers.

Best work yet by the devil's own, Impaled Nazarene. The devastation does not let up one bit from start to finish. A full power nuclear metalonslaught in your face with songs like"Cogito Ergo Sum","Human-Proof","Assault The Weak", and "Nihil".This album very well could be the soundtrack for the end of mankind!Do not pass this one up or you willforever regret it.

4 out of 5 stars warpped.......2000-02-29

After a diappointing turn with their last (Rapture), this was a welcome relief. These nihilistic Finns are back and rocking. Suprisingly Alexi from Children of Bodam has added a new dimension to Impales already bombastic grooves. More akin to Suomi Perkele than Latex Cult. A very enjoyable waste of half hour. Fave track "Zero Tolerance"

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nothing Short of Modern Genius.......1999-05-23

Swimming in the Nihil blends the ambience of both technology and folk into a beautifully produced aural painting of their antagonism and kinship. "All I want is some peace man, something like some relief, man" and "Just tell me this restless spirit will be alright" are some of the lyrical anthems heard over a collage of electronic sounds underscored beautifully with persuasive perscussion. And persuade it does. Philosophical, and yet eerily personal, "Swimming in the Nihil" not only reveals the antagonism of technology and folk, it celebrates their similarities. While "1000x'" and "So Long (pt 1)" intellectually question everything we've done to make our lives more convenient, "The Tub" pulls us back and allows us to pose our questions more emotionally . From beginning to end, from first line of lyric until the last electronic dew drops, you feel all the modern pains and pleasures of living in a world immersed in technology while enveloped in folklore. The Artist here lays bare our modern souls: people in the precarious position of knowing how to work all the devices at our fingertips and still remembering all the intimate things that made us laugh, cry, smile, sigh, and wonder why. This dichotomy comes alive in a universal way in this musical piece. It is nothing short of modern genius.

I'd first heard of Nihil when I was living in Arizona (where I believe they're from) and I'd heard them being compared to KMFDM. Well, that's sort of true. They've got the heavy beats, loud guitar riffs, and loads of samples...but they're no KMFDM. I suppose that the comparison stands insofar as if you like indutrial-metal bands like KMFDM, Nine Inch Nails, or Ministry, you would probably enjoy Nihil on some level. Personally, I think that they lack the clout of those other bands.
