Aerosmith - 'Classics Live! Volume 2' (Sony).......2006-09-12

Heard that most if not all the eight(8) cuts on this CD was recorded live at a reunion gig that took place on New Year's Eve,1984. 'Classics Live! Vol.2' is decent,but certainly nothing to flip out over. The sound quality is,well good FOR a live recording as such. Tunes that lured me into keeping this disc handy for repeated spins were "Back In The Saddle", "Walk This Way", "Draw The Line" and "Toys In The Attic" (this song has always had special meaning to me). Worth checking out.

WOAH!.......2006-08-02

I remember how intense this CD was/is: when I was like 12, I'd get asthma attacks listening to this. I started listening to it on Launchast a couple years ago for the first time in a long time and got to re-live a little of that. My senses have dulled quite a bit since I was 12, but I can still feel magic in music every now and then. I'm not a huge fan of Aerosmith (nor GnR or Whitesnake or KiSS or T. Nuggett - spelling? - or even The Beatles or The Rolling Stones), but I can indulge in the simple pleasure of their music every once and again...I do get tired of it though somewhat quickly. Among ALL of Aerosmith's albums, this is probably one of my favorites. Also, does anyone have the UPC for the REMASTERED (circa 1993) version? A bit better than Classics 1, but still... (2 STARS).......2004-03-12

This is the better of the series, but that isn't saying much, considering poor playing, poor production, and poor track selection on "Classics Live 1." A couple of the usual suspects are here ("Back in the Saddle," "Walk This Way"), but the interesting stuff is Joe Perry's "Let the Music Do The Talking" and the first Tyler-Perry collaboration (and one of Aerosmith's best songs to date) "Movin' Out." But even so, "Classics Live 2" is almost as dull as the first. Overall: 4 out of 10.

It's Ok, But The Drum Sound Is Terrible.......2003-12-12

Other than the cheesy mid-80's synthesized drum sound, this live album is ok. Most of this album was recorded during the "Back In The Saddle" tour. While it's definately better than the mostly lacklustre 'Live Bootleg', I think the original 'Classics Live' or 'A Little South of Sanity' are a lot better. That terrible drum sound really ruins this record in my opinion.

Better then the original!.......2003-11-24

Classics Live 2 is 1000% better then its prediccesor Classics Live. Classics Live had the same callaber of songs but the performance came off as forced and streanus and tierd. But here you have all the key members of Aerosmith Steven, Joe, Brad, Tom , and Joey on all the songs. And all the songs are rock and roll classics not to mention Aerosmith standards. Joe Perry tore the joint down with every killer riff and face melting guitar solo. Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramers rythm section is tighter then ever, and Stevens voice is almost flawless, almost as good as it is today! On Classics Live 1 Steven sounded, well not very good lets say for lack of better words, but here he pulls off all the high notes and still makes time to talk to the audience and play with the words. This is really a great live record that doesnt get as much credit as it should. Dont spend your money on part one unless you are a die hard fan like me. Just go For this one, because this is worth it for 'Let The Music Do The Talking' alone.

A great collection.......2004-02-28

This is a really fabulous collections of songs. There is a great balance of old and new. This isn't a collection from one single genre and the diversity keeps the mix interesting. It's great to hear songs that wouldn't normally be noticed while a movie is playing and it's also great to hear those easily recognizable tunes from popular movies.

land mark play of Beethoven.......2001-01-19

Richter's playing always has a sense of undeniable rightness, especially in Beethoven. Although he is always a pianist who care nothing but the music itself, his playing in his late years reaches a status of maturity that it transcents, and almost no longer belong to the world. In this recording, everything is perfect- the rythem, tone control, and the structure and emotion balance. Even the idea that "imperfection is the essence of perfection" is embedded in his playing philosophy. The funeral mark is so emotional deep that it freezes everything and keeps one thinking. As it proceeds one is brought to a further step lower while every time one feels it is the bottom. As to Op. 111, there is no parallel, not even a close one. One moment the undescribable tempo move one's mind as well as his feet, the next the enormous regret and empty feeling sends one to the outter space, then at the last few notes one is saved by the ultimate humanity that only exists in Beethoven. After this record, one will feel there is nothing more profound than the 2nd movemen of the Op. 111, and only Richter in the existing recording can ever reach that level.

The Bach Fantasy in C Minor, S. 906; Brahms Intermezzo, Op. 116, No. 5; and Beethoven Rondo in C, Op. 51, No. 1 already exist in Sviatoslav Richter performances in Philips's Authorized Richter Edition and other Live Classics releases. Philips's Beethoven Rondo boasts richer sound and crisper articulation in the pianist's downward runs. Conversely, Richter's concept of the Bach Fantasy is broader and more intense here. Purists will take issue with the pianist's distinctly un-Baroque sonority and mesmerizing legato in Bach, while others will be riveted by his insight and laserlike concentration. It's a toss-up between the steady and prismatic 1986 Brahms Op. 116, No. 5 for Philips and the moodier, more subjective 1992 version here. Some may find the first two Brahms Ballads in Op. 10 a bit cut-and-dried, but Richter's sharp, masculine profile is preferable to languorous wallowing any day. Appease the pain and heal hearts.......2000-01-28

It always bring me peace and comfort listening to this disc. Richter's deep understanding of music combined these works into a program so spiritually consistant and yet develops so well that heals one's pain gently and thoroughly. Opened with Bach, he brings in the wisdom without preaching; Brahms comes in there after and brings in the sympathy in time, and created the resonance that carries out one's tears so spontaneously. Then it is the fresh mountain air in a cool day brought in by Beethoven; slightly chilly, however, vivid. Just the refreshing one needs to wash away the appeased pain.

Recital that touches your soul.......2000-02-17

A recital like this is truely a moment in the heaven. Richter revealed his emotion through his hands of indeed philosopher. The Beethoven Op. 110 has never been more powerful, in a sense it changes the way one thinks of life. No one has ever conveyed Beethoven's art this deep. And the Chopin Op. 61 - it is of grand scale. It is epical. With the essen of Chopin, can anyone ever image this work of this scale? At the last few bars, the accumulated development of whole playing bursts out and hence it is to enormous to bear. After the final note settled, I started to look for myself since I am so lost in his music - every time. Ending this disc with Ravel is magical. Totally lost in his playing, this piece comes as a time machine, or a cushion on a safe ground that pulls you back and helps you to land safely.
