Another Public Enemy album is always good news for hip-hop fans, and How You Sell... carries the torch. Other than a few forgettable tracks pulled from a Flavor Flav solo record, highlights abound here. The rockin' "Black Is Back" and the horn-heavy "Harder Than You Think" serve heavy helpings of uplift mojo. "Sex, Drugs & Violence" features a chorus of kids and peerless verses from KRS-One. "Long and Whining Road," the album's most moving track, sees Chuck D's lyrics leaning heavily on Bob Dylan song titles and one-off references to U2, Snoop Dogg, Tom Petty, Beastie Boys, and more. Dramatic production touches include the muted metal riff of "Frankenstar" and orchestral flavors like chimes ("Amerikan Gangster") and vibraphone ("Bridge of Pain"). As always, though, the music is the message, and where this album is so musically eclectic as to court identity crisis, in the end the instrumental elasticity only mirrors Chuck D's vast grasp of the continuum of social ills that mainstream hip-hop long since gave up battling in favor of greed, fame, provincialism, or all of the above. So in answer to the indulgent question of this album's title, maybe--just maybe--this is how we do it. --Jason Kirk

Underrated gem from American thrashers~!.......2005-03-27
It amazes me that a modern day thrash album of this calibre remains entrenched in the underground with none of the recognition that this hardworking American band deserve, the kind of recognition that lesser bands, particularly from the slightly overrated and oversaturated Swedish thrash scene, have gotten in spades in recent years.
Agony's Lament is the band's second full length album, their debut, Darkened Days, is a difficult to find Independent release while they have also spent time busily recording covers for a series of tributes on Dwell Records. This album was released on Japan's World Chaos label in 2002, but has sadly only got decent distribution about a year later through Crash Music.
Firstly, the production is killer ( one of the best productions ive heard on a thrash album ). The guitars slice through the mix like stainless steel razor blades for the faster sections while delivering plenty of chunky goodness in the slower sections of each dynamic track. The bass has a firm place in the mix while the drums are superbly mixed, their beefy sound adds to the robust and crystal clear recording.
Clearly Soulless are a band that has an enormous love for the mid to late 80's European (especially German) and Bay Area thrash scenes, while combining this affection for dark retro thrash with more modern elements from the aggressive Swedish thrash scene, and At the Gate's classic swansong release: Slaughter of the Soul. These influences have been melted into their own unique stew of thrash creativity, and the result is nothing short of amazing.
The songwriting runs the gamut from blazingly fast thrash workouts with frequent tempo changes, crushing and catchy slower breaks and some killer thrash leads, that are melodic, technical and perfectly positioned within the song structures.
The musicianship is stellar, while the vocals are the angriest most inspired thrash vocals ive heard in a very long time, delivered with a blackened edge ( without the typically grating aspect in most black metal vocals ).
Apart from ramming this album down the throats of every metalhead I come across who hasn't been exposed to this incredible band, all I can do is recommend that any metalhead with a soft spot for thrash or melodic death, go out and buy this disc!!
Agony's Lament is a modern day thrash classic. Dark, angry, technical, violent and dynamic, it has everything a thrash album should have and more. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended.

Frightening Dark Ambient..........2007-03-07
I bought this CD on a recommendation from my buddies on a music message board, asking for what they thought would be truly frightening music. This fits the bill, and then some. If you're new to the genre, know that its not ever going to be "accessible" or "background"; this type of music commands your attention. Accurst creates soundscapes filled with screams, evil laughter, and generally creepy sounds "that go bump in the night" to use a cliche. If you enjoy this album I suggest checking out some work by Lustmord, who pretty much created the genre, and go from there.

Ho Hum.......2006-01-19
Slow, kinda boring riffs. There are some catchy songs, here and there, but I would not recommend picking this up.
Most people rave about this Grave album and say its their best, but to me, it sounds like Grave on valium. There really is no comparing this album to their debut. This is Grave following the death n roll trend, which is unfortunately, a turn for the worse. With all due respect, this is the last Grave album thats worth hearing.
What happened to the raw, savage songs that blessed Into The Grave (obviously their best album) and You'll Never See ??? Instead of buying this album, go pick up INTO THE GRAVE.
Great stuff..........2005-03-14
Nice death and roll...hear the tune "Souless"...guitars tuned low and the song sounds almost out of tune..real cool and heavy. I highly recommend this. Great stuff.
Into The Grave.......2003-12-10
This is my first Grave CD and im impressed. The production and the riffs on here have to be classics. Very catchy and groove oriented. One of my favorite death metal albums. Now its time to go and buy Back From The Grave!
Graves finest hour.......2003-02-21
This was the peak of Graves career in my opinion, while
their other releases were great(Into the grave,You will
never see...,And here I die..) This had the best production
and riffs, examples- "The Bullets are Mine,Soulless and the
awesome instrumental "Judas" I saw them live on this tour
and they were just as heavy and tight as the album, This was
unfortunatly the last lp that bassist/vocalist Jorgen
appeared on,before he bolted to Entombed, although Graves
latest lp "Back from the Grave" features demos with him
on it. Those unfamiliar with Grave- they are very heavy death
metal with brutal vocals and are worth checking out.
unreal.......2002-02-05
for any death metal fan this is a must and for anybody who got into early 90's rock like Badmotorfinger or Dirt, Facelift, etc.. this is a must. This is one of the hardest, deepest, darkest, and fastest albums i've ever heard. I've seen these guys live, had a couple shots with 'em, they rock.
