5 out of 5 stars Mahogany's Best & The Rest .......2007-07-12

IV is probably Mahogany's overall best album, but it could be debated. IV is also Mahogany's funkiest record. There's a strong funk influence on many of the songs, such as their popular "Jive" number. It's by far one of the greatest and most eclectic funk-rock records of the seventies, that I have heard. But there is more than just funk, there's a lot of variation, including a soft number, progressive/fusion noodlings,
and the hard driving rock of "Sexie Little Annie", which is in my opinion one of their most entertaining songs. The record is with out a doubt an overlooked and underrated seventies artifact. To the unintiated: Singer/Guitar Player Frankie Marino's singing style vaguely can be reminding of Jimi Hendrix, who was without a doubt an influence on Marino's guitar playing as well, but who wasn't influenced by Jimi Hendrix? Frank Marino took rock guitar playing to a places blocks from Jimi's ballpark. He had the skill and finesse which few matched in the hard-rock circles, a real nice style. Thats a fact Jack. A player reflected by a Strange Universe

5 out of 5 stars Who needs drugs?.......2007-02-02

Did you ever wonder what it's like to have your state of mind chemically altered? Grab your headphones and turn this up! This studio album exudes the energy of a live performance and it has some KILLER mastering. From the high energy of LITTLE SEXY ANNIE to the "lay down and die" lilting of IT'S BEGUN TO RAIN, this is one of the best (in my opinion) from a band that's been around in one form or another for over 30 years. Frank Marino is still cranking out some great music today but you should hear where he's coming from to really appreciate all he's done.

5 out of 5 stars Progressive Rock.......2007-01-08

A classic! One of the best of progressive rock from the '70s. No hit song, but one of the best is Dragonfly, (I just saw Mahogany Rush October 2006 and they played it exceptionally). In the style of Jimi Hendrix, yet complete originals from Frank Marino and his band.

5 out of 5 stars Guitar "Soul" Music.......2007-02-14

I have a very limited appreciation of music. It must be a guitar thats played in such a manner, that it's music merges with something inside of me and makes me feel warm and cozy. I call it"Flow Jam", because it flows into your ears and through your mind and heart.

My favorite artist [in no particular order] are"Jimi Hendrix","Tommy Bolin","Robin Trower",and of course,"Frank Marino

5 out of 5 stars Programmer_guy.......2004-01-11

This is one of Frank's best. Actually I will name the 4 best:
"Child of the Novelty",
"Strange Universe",
"Mahogany Rush IV",
"Mahogany Rush LIVE".
Some of these other reviewers are obviously not guitar players
OR they have not heard ALL of the albums that have been released
over many years. If you want to get the best that Frank has
played then just refer to the list above. Actually, I would say
that if you can get "Juggernaut" that would be fairly good BUT
I will say again that the best he has done is in my list above.
I have seen Frank in concert 3 times AND every time I am blown
away. In my estimation, he is quite probably the best rock-and-
roll guitarist alive today. His style reminds me of Jimi Hendrix EXCEPT
that he plays Jimi better than Jimi played Jimi.
He can, and does, play some Hendrix tunes (on his LIVE album)BUT
even better than Jimi ever played. Of course, he also has composed his own tunes
over the years. They are excellent. The ONLY album that I would say is not good is
"Maxoom".
BUT that was his first attempt at recording/composing and I don't fault him for it. My
only regret is that I have only seen him in concert 3 times. I
wish that he would come and perform in Southern California again. If you like the
late 1960s early 1970s blues-rock such as that of Cream or Jimi Hendrix or
Mountain, to mention just
a few, you will like this. However, he does have his own style.

Buy this! You just may like it. If you are a rock guitar
player you will love it.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Disc!.......2003-10-31

While I love all of the Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush works, this one, to me, stands out as one of the most different. While the guitar playing is less showy, this album is one of the best composed and produced albums that Mahogany Rush made. I highly recommend this for all Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush fans. For those testing the waters for the first time, I'd recommend "What's Next", "Tales of the Unexpected", "Live", or "Juggernaut" to start out with.

5 out of 5 stars An Oldie But Goldie.......2001-05-25

I bought this album back when it first came out on vinyl. Frank was one of the best guitarist that has ever been. I've seen them perform this album live when it first hit the streets and to listen to it today it is still rocks. I have seen Mahogany Rush and Frank Marino live 5 different times through the years. In my opinion they have never created a bad album.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Mahogany Rush - Killer Sounds!.......2000-09-30

I can definitely say that the most popular songs from Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush are on this disk. The Answer and Dragonfly appear on Mahogany Rush Live! Jive Baby is on Sony's Best of Frank Marino. It's Begun to Rain is a great ballad, better than the a lot of ballads! These tunes are clean and rockin! This is rare rock and roll! He plays some of his best solo's on this album! I bid on this album last year on EBAY. You can get it cheaper now on Amazon!
