Over a remarkable 30 years, Aerosmith has delivered near-perfect hybrids of rock and balladry, converting generations of listeners into devout fanatics. O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits drives chronologically through 30 of their best songs, providing a tour of the construction process. And what a process! Listen to "Mama Kin" and you might not recognize Aerosmith at all--here is a young Tyler, before finding his distinctive gritty wail, fronting a simple blues-bar band. But the phenomenal energy and synchronization that developed between Tyler and Perry starts here, and is followed up by successive wonders. "Dream On" captures plodding despair; "Last Child" bears witness to Tyler's mastery of harmony and shriek; "Back in the Saddle" explodes with swagger. Built from the low-end up, Aerosmith's heavy kick, driving bass lines, steady rhythm guitar, and blaring exclamation-point horns create a perfect foundation. And the dirty, harmonic souls of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry do what they do best--put on an over-the-top, flawless show. --Laura Etling

Dude still got it.......2007-05-14
Aerosmith , thank god that there are still bands that sing about dirty women , drink and , well , you know what I mean ! as a mature rock fan who grew up in glorius late 60s and 70s this is what it's about .
In a world of political correctness it's hard to write good old fashioned rock and roll lyrics well , you've missed the plot if that's your mindset rock music is about having a good time , aerosmith are the good time band ! This album is full of classics from there early days to the recent present and , are then a band !
So , forget about your corporate lifestyle , your investments , that new car and big house get back to were it was when you had long hair dirty jeans drank like a fish chased a few babes and , well you know what i mean ! God bless aerosmith !!
P.S. Apologies to anyone who finds this review offensive but as you know the truth hurts .
Same Old Song and Dance - Yet another Compilation but the one worth getting!.......2007-03-23
Aerosmith have released over the years nine "Greatest Hits" Compilations!!! Outside their first and best back in 1980, this one, dubbed Ultimate Hits, is perhaps the best purchase a casual fan who was not around in their 70's hey day should pick up. It covers their entire output save the 77-86 period thus representing better value and wider appeal. Die hard fans should already have the original albums.
Disc One boasts one of the best collection of hard rock/blues recorded in the 70's. Each song is a classic representing the band on top of their game. Hungry, raw, rocking, sleazy and fun. There are a few tracks that should be included from this period but you can't fit them all in can you?
"Walk This Way" "Sweet Emotion" and "Dream On" all the big ones are here. "Season's Of Wither" is one underrated song, a highlight really.
The bands commercial comeback and commercial peak weaves into disc one and dominates disc 2 with well known material from their albums "Permanant Vacation" through to "Just Push Play", the latter providing the minor hit "Jaded" and a cool remix of the title track of that album. A couple of bonus tracks don't add much but "Come Together" and "Toys In The Attic" are good additions.
#1 smash hit, "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" the most well known of their latter, albeit uninspiring period. These days Aerosmith still have it in concert, but besides a decent middle of the road rock album half a decade ago, are in a flat spot as a recording entity and the release of another Hits compilation really highlights their lost muse for creating music.
Let's hope Aerosmith are back with one more classic album if they can steer clear of the gimmicks and focus on delivering like they once did.
Truly The Ultimate.......2007-03-12
Aerosmith is a band that has done more then stand the test of time, they have showed bands half their age how to really rock!
This collection 'O Yeah' shows them from the 70s beginnings all the way through the 90s and beyond!
I would recommend this collection to any Aerosmith fan and really any fan of music in general, but I would also recommend getting the other 'greatest hits' package 'Young Lust' because it features a lot of songs from their Geffen years that aren't included on this release...O Yeah focuses on the Columbia years (it has some Geffen years songs but not enough) and the combination of this along with 'Young Lust' would give anyone a perfect overview of this group of music legends
I would still tell people who can afford it to go out and buy the entire catalog because it's really worth it but having 2 CDs with all the great hits is very convenient to have in your car
there are some new re-mixes of songs from their more recent albums which makes this worth having for those (like me) that already have the whole catalog, but really the two new songs alone are worth buying this,Girls Of Summer and Lay It Down are both great songs..but Girls Of Summer is actually one of the best Aerosmith songs ever recorded
I don't know how they do it but this band gets better all the time! (with the one exception of 'honking on bobo' but I hope they learned from that disaster)...if anyone would walk up to you and ask who Aerosmith is,this and Young Lust are the CDS you should play for them!
The Upside - an almost perfect overview of a brilliant career! This covers the early years, the Geffen years, and the columbia years
The Downside - Missing some important Geffen years songs, they completely ignore 'Done With Mirrors' on this release, and 'Night In The Ruts' and 'Rock In A Hard Place'
The Bottom Line - If someone asks you who Aerosmith is,play this and Young Lust..these are great packages and well worth the price...donutman says so!!!
yay.......2007-02-28
I remember Aerosmith from when I was younger my parents were 70's and 80's rockers and that is what I remember growing up. I love this CD pack (two CDs) it has their greatest hits and it is good. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to see what Aerosmith is like. For those of you who already love them I'd go with buying their other CDs.

Amazon.com essential recording
Originally released in 1975, this was Aerosmith's breakout recording. Listeners only familiar with their more recent, post-comeback material may be surprised; like their other albums from the 1970s, Toys has a strong blues inflection, as indicated by their cover of "Big Ten Inch Record," which also shows that Aerosmith has never lacked raunchiness or innuendo. There's also the original (pre-Run-D.M.C.) version of "Walk This Way," and the classic "Sweet Emotion." This is classic Aerosmith at its gritty, streetwise best; they may have been derivative, but it really doesn't matter, then or now: it's all in good fun. --Genevieve Williams

This Is The Must Have Studio Album/CD To Own If You're Even The Slightest Aerosmith Fan.......2007-07-30
I began building my Aerosmith album collection starting with this studio album and it hasn't stopped growing ever since. Walk this way, Sweet Emotion, Adam's Apple, Uncle Salty, You See Me Cryin' and Toys In The Attic (the song). They're all right here when your ready to pick it up.
AEROSMITH: ROCKERS LOVE 'EM, CRITICS HATE 'EM ! (the hard rocking and horny Toys In The Attic really delivers).......2007-06-12
Other than rockin' and partyin', Aerosmith only cares about fourteen things, and all fourteen can be found on the female anatomy. These guys aren't trying to save the world, they're just playing hard and horny, no holds barred rock n' roll. They're loud, they're audacious, and they rock like their lives depend on it. It's kind of like being in a street fight. It may not be proper or honorable, but you use every dirty trick you know, because it's either his a** or yours. And that's pretty much the way Aerosmith plays rock n' roll. They pull out all the stops, use every trick in the book, throw everything they've got at you, and more. That's just fine with me! Their third album, Toys In The Attic (1975) is a rock classic and one of their best. It includes their big hits Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. Also here are the wide open rockers Toys In The Attic and Round And Round. Uncle Salty is sort of an Ozzy meets The Beatles kind of song, and Adam's Apple rocks with slide guitar and sexual innuendo ("She ate it, never knowing wrong from right"). Then there's the hilarious rock-swing boogie of Big Ten Inch. No More, No More is a slow/fast rocker that sounds like it would have fit just as well on their Get Your Wings album. The album closes with the emotional ballad, You see Me Crying, complete with orchestration. Like all of Aerosmith's power ballads, it really brings home the goods. Of course, every Aerosmith fan knows Toys In The Attic is essential. If you're just starting to get in to Aerosmith, this is a good place to start. I suggest you also pick up Get Your Wings (1974) and Rocks (1976) along with Toys In The Attic. All three are good, loud, and energetic hard rock.
a very bad album.......2007-05-19
Toys in the Attic is an overrated, overplayed disaster.
The only decent songs are the title track and "Uncle Salty". "Walk This Way" has a unique vocal melody for the time it was released in the mid 70's, but that doesn't mean I like it. "Big Ten Inch" sounds like some fake novelty song that wears thin after a couple listens.
"Sweet Emotion" is a decent song, but the live versions are MUCH better because the song demands a lot of energy, which this studio version lacks. "No More No More" is Aerosmith's version of a pop song, and an unmemorable one at that. "Round and Round" is a rip-off of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" and for some reason, a hard rock band thought it was a good idea to end an album with a ballad called "You See My Crying", complete with overdramatic emotions that sound forced and unreal.
Aerosmith is a pretty fantastic band, but Get Your Wings is the place to start. Or buy that live album released in the late 70's.
Great Rock n Roll.......2007-03-03
Withstands the passage of time. Brings back memories of College days. Much simpler times....
Just great meaty rock and roll.
Great album from formerly great band.......2007-02-19
Aerosmith is a real enigma in rock history; a band that was nothing short of brilliant in its first era through "Night In The Ruts", and the original line-up reformation of "Done With Mirrors" that turned into a cliche of themselves.
Not that it mattered - new listeners dug "Permanent Vacation" and the new crop of albums, while the old school hated the new work. Aerosmith is rich beyond their wildest dreams, and probably doesn't care about the opinions of the fans who brought them into prominence in the first place.
"Toys In The Attic" was the third release for this Boston band, and the Stones/Yardbirds hybrid sound coalesced into their own style that was only hinted at on the first two releases. The title track rips, and the blues swing hard on "Uncle Salty" and "Adam's Apple", a funny story of the Garden of Eden. The classic "Walk This Way" follows, with its funky rhythms and impossible to not love guitar riff. Tyler's lyrics are smart, witty and urban. It can be said that rappers and hip-hop musicians probably learned a lot from his lyric style, the re-making of the tune with Run-DMC providing proof of that argument, although the original is far better.
"Toys In The Attic" isn't the toughest Aerosmith - that would come next with the unbelievable "Rocks" album. It is probably, however, the best songwriting the band did overall.
This, "Rocks" and the first two albums, "Aerosmith" and "Get Your Wings" are the best the band had to offer, and that was a lot. Too bad they've resorted to cheap Rich Little impersonations of themselves and released way too many hits packages. Time to call it a day, boys.

Even before their second fling with the pop mainstream, Aerosmith were one of Top 40's favorite hard-rock bands, so ubiquitous--and so funky--that Run-D.M.C. were vociferous fans. Their '70s output included at least three classic albums (Aerosmith, Toys in the Attic, and Rocks). This disc collects unstoppable singles into a horny, howling little piece of archaeology that makes even weak links like "Kings and Queens" sound great. And the truly great stuff here--"Sweet Emotion," "Last Child," "Dream On"--runs the gamut of style and feeling from swaggering freak-flag-flying to power-ballad roots that display a genuine ache. Your Aerosmith collection shouldn't end here, but this red-and-white bomb is a great place to start. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
No better place to start listening to Aerosmith hits than at the beginning.......2007-07-30
I had talked to some Aerosmith fans who thought Permanent Vacation was their first album. Boy, were they in for a big surprise! This is the CD I would recommend to anyone who is an Aerosmith fan and is not aware of the 1st half of their recording career as well as to those who plan on buying just one single Aerosmith CD in their lifetime (sadly). But for those of us who lived though it, We know the 70s were their most productive years in the studio (although the late 80s and early 90s weren't too bad either.. but that's another review).
Dollars and (common) cents........2007-07-20
I'm going to rate this CD based on a $1 per song cost to total cost for the entire CD (Apple and Rhapsody charge $1 per song).
There are $4 worth of really great, classic rock songs on here. The timeless songs Aerosmith wrote while messed up on drugs: Dream On, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way and Kings And Queens should be in every great music collection. The rest of the songs on here are garbage (album filler).
iTunes and Aerosmith hooked up, so it appears at first that all the Aerosmith tunes can be purchased for a dollar a piece. However, as you dig deeper, you'll notice that most of their big hits, like those I just listed, are missing.
I'd recommend buying either Aerosmith's "Devil's Got A New Disguise" for $11, or the "Oh, Yeah!" for $15. You'll be missing out on the song Kings And Queens, but you'll be getting the other three songs I listed, PLUS a lot of their big hits from when the band sobered up.
Hope this helps.

AEROSMITH WILL ROCK ON FOREVER.......2007-06-06
If you are going to an AEROSMITH CONCERT, like I am in July (at the Konocti Harbor & Spa in Clearlake California!!!!!!!!) you had better refresh yourself with this disc...you don't want to be the only one who doesn't know all the words to the classic songs! A great refresher, a great party disc and naturally a Rock and Roll classic no collection should be without.
Well, At Least It's A Start.......2007-05-22
The four stars on this review are directed solely at the songs contained on this album. The album itself is only worthy of three stars. It contains a couple of edited tunes ("Sweet Emotion" and "Kings And Queens") and a brief collection of some solid Aerosmith tunes. This album, like many before have stated, is for completionists and casual fans only. If you really want early Aerosmith, I suggest you seek out the original albums or if all you want is their greatest hits, look for some of the newer collections.
Once again, the songs themselves are brilliant, but the album's cheap price comes with a deserved cheap feel to it. Save up your money and buy a better set.
They Rock.......2007-03-07
Aerosmith do I need to say more. This has the best of everything they did. Enough said.

I love this.......2007-07-18
I am buying this & this is so good! Like, crazy is like a different style than the other great songs. & what it takes is more of a style of difference. back in the saddle is sooooooooooooo cool rock music.
Mama kin has grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat guitar. I dont wanna miss a thing is so good. cryin', well, you get the good rock part, but it is so confusing because they change it to sad parts in the chourus (and some of the verses...........) The song i hate is sedona sunrise.
devils got a new disguise it is preety good. Rocking, but in the back of my head, there is something that is really pizarre, much of a difference.
Last child is a cool song. in the beginning it is kind of weird.
Dream on is ok. But weird. Walk this way is preety good. Run dmc messes up the rock of aerosmith. Love in a elavator is pretty good. But when they say 'hoh hoh' in the chourus, it is kind of weird. My fave song is jaded. livin on the edge is good. My second fave song is sweet emotion.
janies got a gun is good.
Devil's Got A New Disguise.......2007-03-28
The Very Best Of Aerosmith; Devil's Got A New Disguise ***
Useless. Well not entirely there are two new great songs on this compalation. In the history of rock n' roll no other band has had this many compalations. Thats right Aerosmith holds the crown with far more then Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and yes even The Beatles. The thing that blows many Aerosmith fans minds is that of all the compalations the band has released or that the record company has released only one has been any good, O Yeah Ultamate Aerosmith Hits. It covered the whole career. It had it all and left nothing out, it wasnt a best of but a hits collection and it gave you all the hits not the best of. This however is called a "Very Best Of" a term I am using loosley. While this does serve more as a greatest hits because all it has is hits it is missing the real "Very Best Of" Aerosmith. There is no (original) 'Walk This Way' 'Mama Kin' or even the cult classic 'Let The Music Do The Talkin.'
Now as a "starter kit" for new Aero fans or even for that casual fan who wants an Aerosmith cd for the car this would be fine...except almost all the songs are remixes and alternate versions other then what was the hit.Which is cool that the songs are being released in different versions for die-hards like myself but they are going about this the wrong way. Rerelease the classic albums and pu tthe alternate versions as bonus tracks...what a genius idea... Now that is the smart thing to do, but as we all know Steven Tyler is natorious for doing things the difficult way, but is that not what we all love about him.
The biggest problem I guess I have with this compalation is what true Aerosmith fan really perfers the Run-DMC version of 'Walk This Way' to the original. You will be hard pressed to find someone who will actually say that, and it is with concediration that it revivved their career and it is a classic but no more so than the original. This is also why I would recomend O Yeah to this because it contains both versions.
'Sedona Sunrise' is the first of the two new tracks. It is a nice ballad with incredible guitar work from Joe and Brad. Steven's vocals as always are amazing. The title track 'Devils Got A New Disguise' is a nice rocker in the same vine as the songs on Get A Grip. Great guitar work again, the vocals are killer and the lyrics are also very well written. Tom actually plays some great bass here as he always does but on this track it really stands out. Joey lays down a nice solid groove for the rest of the guy sto build off of and even though this will not it has the makings of a hit single. My only problem with these songs is that I wish they would have been saved for a regular studio album.
So over all, all the songs are great and are really classics in Aerosmiths cannon. But most people already own all of these. With a few adjustments this would be a great way to start an Aerosmith collection, but really this is just something for die-hards like myself.
How sad..........2007-03-23
I can't give this compilation less than 3 stars because the music on it IS very good. However, I'm getting a little tired of repackaged greatest hits collections! The best one would be O Yeah!, which covers everything up to the brilliant Just Push Play. Like the new songs, but I'm ready for a new album.
This is probably just to fulfill a contractual agreement.
good compilation.......2007-03-13
we have a lot of classic Aerosmith, so this is a good compliment to that collection

They'd soon crash, and hard, thanks to their own excesses. But Rocks captures Aerosmith at a crazily driven peak of creativity; anyone who heard it and continued to dismiss them as mere Stones clones was just being willful. This is blues rock cranked up to '70s stadium level, the sound of the Trans Am, or maybe the Porsches several of these guys (surprisingly) remember driving. The psychic battering they would succumb to on the next year's Draw the Line is foreshadowed in Joe Perry's "Combination," but he and Steven Tyler also celebrate the rock-star mythos on "Lick and a Promise." The party-fueled tension, the tension-fueled party. --Rickey Wright

There are only a handful of CDs that come out that rocks from start to finish. This is one of those. AC/DC (Highway To Hell/Back In Black), Led Zeppelin (Zoso, Led I, Led II), and Fastway (Fastway) are others but there are not many. Buy this and you won't regret it. (Unless you don't really Rock)
Yes!.......2007-05-30
Rocks is the pinnacle for Aerosmith. The final recording in a trio of excellence that started with Get Your Wings, Rocks is the zenith of recordings for one of America's greatest bands.
The production was the best up to that point, with layers of guitars making for a dense and foreboding sound (Noboby's Fault, Rats in the Cellar, Combination, Back in the Saddle) and a cd that provides aural orgasms when listened to with headphones. The lyrics are clever, raunchy, autobiographical, and at times poignant without the excesses that dogged Tyler in years to come. Everyone gets their hand in as well, with Hamilton's superb Sick As A Dog and Whitford's funky Last Child complimenting the Tyler/Perry reliability. Even the standard album closing ballad, Home Tonight, rivals You See Me Crying as one of the best that isn't titled Dream On.
If you must buy just one Aerosmith album, it has to be this one. Even more essential than Toys In The Attic, Rocks is Aerosmith embracing the heavy blues sound they'd evolved to and taking no prisoners. This was the album that made them kings.
Yep, 'Rocks' rocks.......2007-05-04
"Rocks" is a workmanlike album by Aerosmith, but also trippy in its way. "Combination," for instance, is a hazily drugged-out tune, complete with washed-out, double-tracked vocals, a great riff and lyrics that convey a sense of surrending and abiding to an overwhelming habit. Apparently, "Rocks" was made during the heyday of the Beantown Boys' drinking and drugging lifestyle, and songs like "Combination" seem to prove it. Elsewhere, "Last Child" and "Get the Lead Out" display some funk and street smarts, while "Rats in the Cellar" is a jumpin' rocker in the same fast-paced vain as Def Leppard later did on the song "Rocks Off" from the 1980 album On Through the Night. And it should be noted that all heavy metal bands from the 1980s owe a debt to the dark metal sound heard on "Nobody's Fault." As far as the softer side of Aerosmith, "Home Tonight," the closing song, might be the only moment when the band shows a hint of sentimentality. At this point of the record Steven Tyler sounds worn out, and he probably is.
Tyler has the perfect rock 'n' roll voice: raspy, high-pitched and rugged in the right places. Throw in great guitar work by Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, a little harmonica and the inevitable 1970s hand claps, and you've got yourself a classic Aerosmith CD. All these songs are arena-ready, rockin' and catchy; "Rocks" forbids sappy ballads with cheesy lyrics, thank God. The songs fly by.
Much of "Rocks" improves upon what Led Zeppelin started (see Led Zeppelin II), and much of it rocks harder than what the Rolling Stones ever did (see Forty Licks). (Weirdly, Aerosmith was accused of ripping off the Stones' sound when they started, similar to how Stone Temple Pilots were told they were Pearl Jam clones). In short, "Rocks" by Aerosmith = great rock and roll. Check it out.
Aerosmith's Best Album....period........2007-04-05
It's almost a law of nature that a rock band can't be great from beginning to end. Led Zeppelin is the only band that came close. The Rolling Stones, you say? Forget it. I love them, too, but it's 2007, and their last good album was Tatoo You, 1981. Aerosmith is a very good band, but to a much lesser extent.
As with many bands, Aerosmith's early albums are undeniably their best. But while their first three albums were very good - this album is not only great, but legendary. "Rocks" was the one Aerosmith sold their soul to make. It is one of the best 10 rock albums ever - fusing rock, blues and funk consistently from first song to last. While there are so many forgettable albums - like old movies that you thought were great until you re-watch them years later, and realize that they actually suck. This one, however, stands the test of time.
I remember exactly where I was when we pulled the cellophane off the album and cranked it up on some old, crappy turntable. Me and my 8th grade pals all loved it from "Back in the Saddle" onward. The older it gets, the more I appreciate it.
The beginning of the end or the end of the beginning?.......2007-03-12
The last great album from the original (pre-rehab) band. Classic tracks, classic attitude and a sound that threatened to shred mom and dad's hi fi speakers. That the band had perfected rock and roll attitude is demonstrated by Perry's effort to get the record titled "Aerosmith 5" despite the fact it was only their fourth album. The idea of all the fanboys trying to find the "missing" album cracks me up as much as I'm sure it did him.
All the signs of the impending crash and burn were there, but nobody made the run to the cliff look this good until Thelma and Louise 20 years later.

Love this CD.......2007-07-05
Had this when it came out on LP--didn't even know it was ON cd til just now, and I ordered it. Take it for what it is, a timepiece from the period. The Bee Gees in the mid to late 70's were as dominant as the Beatles were in the 60's. PS- CHICAGO was offered the "Got To Get You" song and passed.
to those disco freaks that love cheesy films!.......2007-04-19
Yes, I'm a HUGE fan of Peter Frampton and the Brothers Gibb and I'm an even BIGGER fan of cheesy films. I've been hunting down this soundtrack on CD since wearing out the VHS I checked out from the library. After having the DVD fall on my foot at my local Walgreen's (and watching it 7 times over 3 days), I'm now starting my search again for the awesome soundtrack. I'm a bit miffed that the tracks are out of order, but it's no big deal. If you love Frampton's guitar work, the BeeGee's vocals, and a cheesy film from '78 to boot, then by all means, get it. For those haters that don't like disco-fied Beatles covers, well, all I can say to them is pfft (oh, and not buy it if they're going to just fuss and cuss about how it's not 'right').
Why would you buy it then?.......2007-03-20
Looking at the previous review I wonder...Did you see the movie? if you did then you heard all the tracks before buying the cd. Yes the movie was corny and campy...and I'm glad it didn't turn out to be like Xanadu (largly due to the fact that no one had to act, they just sang the parts) but it still leads me to wonder why would you buy the soundtrack to a movie you felt like was a flop? I enjoyed the music therefore I will most likely buy this cd. I enjoyed the movie as well (sucker for the Bee Gees)...
Good Music.......2007-03-17
This sound track from the movie is a very good remake of the Beatles tunes. I enjoyed the movie back years ago and enjoy the music again now...
Excellent Purchase.......2007-01-10

While not quite as exemplary of the Boston quintet's '70s sound as Toys in the Attic or Rocks, Get Your Wings was impressive both in terms of its material and its measurable improvement over Aerosmith's debut. From the R&B inflected "Same Old Song and Dance" to the power-rock "Woman of the World" to the rollicking cover of "Train Kept a Rollin'," Wings showed the band solidifying their sound and really taking flight for the first time. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
The first of the great Aero albums.......2007-05-30
Along with the two follow-ups, this is the best Aerosmith there is! This is a powerful document of blues-influenced hard rock, the kind of music Aerosmith helped set the standard for. Surprisingly accomplished for being only their second album, this is chock full of good songwriting, heavy melodies, and the masterful guitar work of Perry and Whitford.
There are absolutely no clunkers here and things don't really even settle down but for the melancholy Seasons of Wither, and it is one of their best slow songs. The bitchin' Woman of the World is pure Perry delight and the classic rock staples like the stinging funk of Same Old Song and Dance and the homage with a little extra of Train Kept A Rollin' demonstrate that this band not only recognized its influences but was more than willing to pass the torch to a new generation of rock disciples.
The only real difference between Get Your Wings and the next two albums is the production values; the more money the band made, the better sounding the albums became. Still, the songs are top notch and the band sounds as tight and white-hot as they ever were at the height of their reign during the latter half of the decade. Get Your Wings is essential Aerosmith.
great listen.......2007-05-12
I'm not an Aerosmith fan, and probably never will be. But Get Your Wings strikes me as an improvement over the debut, and probably their best album of the 70's (though it's a tough call between this and Rocks).
"Same Old Song and Dance" is a great way to open an album. We've all heard the song, and now we can hear the song with a slightly extended opening riff section. Yup, the version of the song on this album is a bit longer than the one radio stations play.
Then you have "Lord of the Thighs" which is just a really good song. It stands out with the vibrating effect going on in the background. "Spaced" rules. Best vocal melody on the album. "Woman of the World" is a typical Aerosmith rocker. Pretty good one, though.
After that, "Train Kept a Rollin" is probably my favorite song on the album. I've heard other versions, but this one strikes me as being the best. It really features a crunchy guitar riff at just the right speed. "Seasons of Wither" is another song worth mentioning, for its overall eerie tone and atmosphere.
Solid listen for hard rock collectors.
Still not as good as that first album.......2007-02-20
Same Old Song And Dance, Lord Of The Thighs, Seasons Of Wither are here, I can't deny that those are 3 of their best. Yet, I still think the debut has more energy and is a better album, although the production and sound quality on Get Your Wings is a lot better, but they sound like they're trying too hard here and are IMO in a sophomore slump. they'll be back though.
The Second 3.5 stars.......2007-02-13
I was never really too hip on the album when it first come out and is my least favorite of their first four. Train Kept A Rollin' on this cd is one of the best versions I have ever heard and in itself is worth 5 stars, but the rest really never took hold of me. I own it and listen to it every once in a while.
Are you kidding me?.......2007-02-02
This is THE Aerosmith album. You can't call yourself fan if you don't have this one. It's some of the all time best work from the "Toxic Twins" and the boys.

Few comebacks in rock and roll history have been as amazing as that of Aerosmith. Their triumphant return to the charts in the '80s not only rekindled the band's earlier success, but also significantly surpassed it. With their top 20 hits "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," "Ragdoll," and the top 10 power ballad, "Angel," the group proved they had even more fire left in their fight than anyone could have imagined. Leaving behind its reckless lifestyle, the band sacrificed none of their rowdy rock and roll. "Ragdoll" and "Love in an Elevator" built upon Aerosmith's raunchy blues approach to hard rock, complete with singer Steven Tyler's howl in the best form of his career. Big Ones includes these rockers along with the spooky Grammy-winner "Jamie's Got a Gun," and the slower but still hard-edged "Crazy." Other high points of the new and improved band are reflected in "The Other Side" and the anthem "Eat the Rich." --Steve Gdula

Good Compilations Of Songs.......2007-07-30
If you want a good compilations of newer songs of Aerosmith then this CD is for you. "The Other Side" is one of my favorite songs of Aerosmith. This song really rocks and has a good beat to it. Other good songs are "Love In An Elevator." Just listen to the words of this song and it can make your imagination run wild as if you were in an elevator with the opposite sex. "Dude Looks Like A Lady" is another classic song from Aerosmith along with "Jamie's Got A Gun." Don't tick Jamie off or you will be sorry. A beautiful ballad on this CD is "Angel." A very beautiful love song. The CD ends with "Livin' On The Edge." What a way to end a CD with a song like this. Quite ironic that they would put this song last on this CD. 15 classics on 1 CD. What a good buy!!!
fast delivery.......2007-06-08
Received sooner than expected and was in perfect condition!!! One of my favorite CD's of all time...
Big enough, not the biggest.......2007-05-25
This is a good comp album of Aerosmith's stuff from the mid-80s thru early 90s. It's the stuff people who were kids in the 80s will remember from the radio. Very good album for that age group. The stuff from the 70s isn't here. If that's what you're looking for, you'll have to get a different disc. This disc is good rock and roll.
Great 80's/Early 90's Collection.......2007-05-22
First and foremost, "Big Ones" is not a definitive Aerosmith collection. What it is, however, is a great collection of tunes culled from their second successful run that started in the mid-80's and ran its course through the early 90's. There are bigger, better, and more complete collections of their hits out there, but for a quick roadtrip, this is the perfect album. It includes "Dude (Look Like A Lady)," "Janie's Got A Gun," and "Amazing." It also has the wonderful "Rag Doll" and one of the best hard rock ballads, "Angel." A couple of new tunes are also thrown in, but they can't even begin to overshadow the rest of this album.
Naturally hardcore fans will want a more extensive collection of Aerosmith's hits. In most cases, if you're that much of a fan you've probably got most of their albums anyway. For people who just want a decent helping of the band's hits though, this album is perfect.
A Clasic.......2006-08-07
All the hits in one CD great I invite to all of you Aerosmith fans to buy this album.......enjoy

While not their strongest recording, Aerosmith's self-titled debut gave a taste of the musical path that the band, and much of the rest of hard rock, was to follow for the rest of the 1970s and well into the 1980s. Although the awkward social commentary of "Movin' Out" and the swinging cover of Rufus Thomas's "Walking the Dog" have largely been forgotten, two standards emerged from Aerosmith: "Dream On," a prototypical power ballad with its keyboards and string arrangement, and "Mama Kin," which contains one of the most recognizable riffs in hard-rock history. Though Aerosmith would record better albums--both before and after their drug-induced implosion--their debut serves as a kind of road map to much of post-'60s rock & roll. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
There has to be a first.......2007-02-13
This is one of the finest debut albums I have heard and it was my first Aerosmith album. I wore grooves in it and love the guitar play in it and it is my third favorite Aerosmith cd (after Toys and Rocks). It also is worth while to have around in your collections.
The toxic twins at their greasiest and best.......2007-02-03
So what if the recording sounds lousy. This is the rawest most crudest and best rock & roll Aerosmith has ever done. Energy and songs is the priority over quality. I love the sound of Perry's old amp(probably a 50's Fender champ?) sound like the tubes are dying at the beginning of Somebody and they left it in for posterity! Perfect.
Great Debut.......2007-01-25
The first album from the bad boys from Boston. Overall it is a pretty good debut. Lots of grungy blues rock that the band would perfect in years to come. The album contains the classics "Mama Kin", "Walkin The Dog", and a song I have never gotten sick of "Dream On" which IMO is the great rock power ballad of all time. The rest of the album is fairly pedestrian in its approach with songs like "Make It", "One Way Street", and "Moving Out" showing some of the early fire that would carry these guys for another 4 decades. They still usually perform at least a song or two from this album in concert today.
Aerosmith, period........2006-11-15
I'm waiting for a band with the bravado to re-release an album as their "best of". Aerosmith would certainly be a candidate for such a display. I'm not saying that there isn't a gem here and there after the debut album, but this is the most interesting sound that the band has in their career.
debut.......2006-10-29
This is the debut album for Aerosmith, a rock band that would soon become legendary. I love the raw, dirty blues rock that dominates their debut album. It's also got good songwriting in addition to great singing and guitar playing. Why this album is overlooked so much is a mystery to me.

A model for all live albums.......2007-06-22
Live Bootleg was released in 1978. Being Aerosmith's first live album, it included live versions of songs from all of their albums; AEROSMITH (Released in 1973, tracks that make an apperance on this album are Mama Kin and Dream On), GET YOUR WINGS (1974, included on this album are Lord Of The Thighs, SOS, and Train Kept A Rollin), TOYS IN THE ATTIC (1975, Toys In The Attic, Walk This Way, and Sweet Emotion), ROCKS (1976, Back In The Saddle, Sick As A Dog, Last Child), and DRAW THE LINE (1977, Draw The Line, Sight For Sore Eyes). This CD also includes a few songs not on these albums (The cover of the Beatle's Come Together, Chip Away The Stone, and two covers from an apperance at Pall's Mall in 1973 that is widely bootleged: Mother Popcorn and I Ain't Got You)
The original release on vinyl was on two records, and included a poster. The cover was meant to parody bootlegs of Aerosmith shows that surfaced. Infact, to make it seem more like a bootleg, they did not include "Draw The Line" on the tracklisting. This is from the 1978 show in Philadelphia at the Tower.
This is Aerosmith's at its raunchiest, rawest form. The band was heavily in drugs at the time and that is evident in the recordings. For example, in Dream On, Steven seems to struggle with the vocals in this song. But to me, this is what Aerosmith is. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Even the ugly is better than any music out there today. Aerosmith is up in your face for over an hour. Highlights of the album include a fast-paced Toys In The Attic, a 7+ minute Lord Of The Thighs jam, and the the two "club" numbers Mother Popcorn and I Ain't Got You. But really, the whole album is a highlight. Everything is so loose and rocking, it is the perfect defintion of what a live album should be. A lot of the tracks here are even better than their studio counterparts, for example, S.O.S., Walk This Way (which includes Joe Perry using the talkbox throughout the song), Train Kept A Rollin (incluiding Strangers in the Night), and Sight for Sore Eyes (which Stevens opens the song by asking "Are they gonna let you dance tonight?").
If you are only familiar with the new "polished" Aerosmith (see Just Push Play), you might have a little difficulty adjusting to the band as they were over 20 years ago. This is Aerosmith at its roots. This is Aerosmith before it was pressured by record companies to make pop songs. This is Aerosmith playing raw rock n roll. This is one album that should not be passed up by any fan of Aerosmith, or even rock music in general. This is one of the best live albums of all time and ranks at the top alongside Get Yer Ya-Yas Out and If You Want Blood.
Warts and All!.......2007-02-20
The inclusion of Mother Popcorn from the bootleg 1973 at Pall's Mall in Boston is worth the price of admission. Tight, Funky, Greasy, Raunchy, Raw, Rock & Roll.
I like this live album because it shows the band as it was, warts and all.
Play it loud!!!.......2007-01-12
If youre an Aerosmith fan you have to have this album. I saw Aerosmith on the Draw The Line tour and not again til 2004. This album shows you the root of how they became maybe the greatest american rock and roll band of all time!
Now I know why they quit using drugs.......2006-11-20
I like Aerosmith and have been a fan for years, but honestly speaking, this is far from their best effort. I purchased the vinyl of "Live Bootleg" not long after it came out, and I loved it as a teenager, however after revisiting this element of my childhood, I can firmly say that the memory is much sweeter than the actual recording.
"Live Bootleg" was recorded in 1978 prior to the band's disintegration due largely to drug use. This album in not their finest hour, however if you're a completist, or just simply enjoy hearing drug-addled musicians sloppily play classic hits, then there's a chance you may enjoy it.
Even the recording quality of this album is pretty disappointing; there are few punchy moments where the listener would prefer the live version to the recorded version. Compared to other live albums recorded in this era (Kiss "Live II" or Led Zep's "Song Remains the Same"), Aerosmith's attempt is pretty weak. There's even an annoying buzz through most of the album. Maybe the concept of "Live Bootleg" was to have it sound like a cheap bootleg album, but the novelty wears off rather quickly, especially for the listener who paid full price.
The highlight is the cover of James Brown's "Mother Popcorn". Oh yeah, and the pictures in the booklet were okay.
A super-nova of a live album - one of A-Smith's greatest.......2006-08-12
This is still one of the most underrated live rock albums of all time. Bought the vinyl when it was released. Wore it out. Bought the CD. Wore it out. Bought another. Wearing it out. Steven Tyler wails at his best and Joe Perry's guitar is on fire! A must-have, absolute, unapologetic, timeless rocker.
