5 out of 5 stars BRUTAL AND HEAVY.......2006-05-10

I just recently discovered this band a few days ago.I bought this cd from a local cd store played the cd and it's bone-crunching brutal and heavy as hell. This is probably one of the heaviest cd's that i've encountered along with pierced from within by suffocation. This cd is great now I think I'm going to buy more cd's buy this band.

5 out of 5 stars To enjoy this you've got to *really* like Death Metal..........2005-11-12

Death Metal in its purest form. The heaviest, most brutal record the genre ever spawned. Look elsewhere if you want subtlety, melody, clever musicianship or variation of pace. This is a lesson in Neanderthal thuggery; pummelling, crushing, monotonous, and enveloped in the atmosphere of Old-School Swedish darkness.

Everything about this record is base; the simplistic punk drumming (no blasting), the density of the guitar tone, the unimaginably guttural vocals. This is not a "lets make brutal Death Metal to shock our parents" record, its a "lets make brutal Death Metal because there is nothing to do on our isolated Swedish island" record. There is a crucial difference.

5 out of 5 stars Great start.......2005-07-03

barely into their Haday and the almighty Grave are able to deliver powerful pure Death Metal in an assault of 11 great tracks full of what any death metal fan frantically looks for in an act like this. Grave's approach into their brand of DM is very solid and never lets down in any of the songs in this album which to me is considered a gem especially if it includes the 7 other demo tracks on the re-issue. This is one of only a few bands that has a great tone in their instruments which include the low buzzsaw ultra-crunch guitar accompanied with the signature low grunt raspy vocals. Many of the tracks here are extremely memorable and of course they all have great riffs and the thing that completes this masterpiece is the blasting kit that tears through flesh and bone. But, don't take my word for it check it out if you're fan of old school DM

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Classic Deathmetal album.......2005-02-11

I bought this album in 1992 (cassette), and i love it till now.
Death metal should sounds like this album, though it is quite like Entombed (not the newer ones, but the old one).
and hey..even Jorgen (ex Grave vocalist) is now in Entombed
but You won't regret it.
If you want to hear an easy but heavy deathmetal music not ultra fast, try this one.
BUY IT BEFORE IT IS OUT OF STOCK!!

5 out of 5 stars REAL HEAVY AND UNFORGETTABLE!!!.......2003-10-19

I also agree with the other reviewers saying that this is an unforgettable death metal classic.I was totally blown away when I first heard this and still am.All the songs are well structured and heavy as hell. The songs are midtempo and are not that fast, but they rely on sheer force to dull your senses. In my belief,I think this is an overlooked classic which deserves alot more praise than what it's getting here.Go out and get this today because I promise you will not be disappointed.DEATH METAL LIVES ON!!!

5 out of 5 stars Giving J. C. His Due.......2004-01-08

Forgive me, Johann Christian, for ever thinking of you as a half-baked Mozart--especially denigrating from a music lover who much prefers Haydn to Mozart! As penance (if you can call sheer pleasure penance), I have been getting to know as much of your work as I can. Listening to this three-CD set from Anthony Halstead and the Hanover Band has been an especial ear-opener. While I can't say that these overtures have the true stamp of theater about them, as Mozart's greatest overtures clearly do, Bach's music is always diverting and often much more than that. There are many beauties and occasionally high drama as well in these little works. And in the Ballet Music from Amadis des Gaule, there is music of such delicate color and panache that I think immediately of Rameau.

Some of these overtures will be familiar to you if you know Bach's symphonies, since they are just a reworking of the same. But most of this music will be new to you and will bring surprise and pleasure, I'm sure. Much of the credit is due Halstead and his band. By this point in their traversal of what seems all of Bach's orchestral music, they are expert at capturing the essence of this composer, whose musical ideas and orchestration are bolder and more scintillating than anybody could have imagined before the birth of the original-instruments movement. If anyone thinks of J. C. Bach as a merely genteel proto-Mozart, as I mistakenly once did, listen to these CDs and be chastened--and royally entertained in the bargain.

5 out of 5 stars They're like the anime version of the Misfits.......2007-02-21

These guys, they're freakin' awesome! Yeah, you can't understand what they're saying half of the time, but still, it doesn't diminish the awesomeness of the music that they make. They use the classic three-chord progression and the Misfit-style "oh oh oh" type singing, mixed with their own unique guitar rifts and the lead singers own distinct vocal style. I am going to track down all of their available albums because these guys are awesome! Buy this cd, NOW!

5 out of 5 stars Balzac RULES!.......2006-07-19

Balzac is indeed an amazing band! i saw them open up for the fits and even got to meet two of the members. There Music is heavely influenced by the misfits, but they make it there own. There the few horror punks actually pushing the genre and not playing the same stuff over agian. This cd is packed and is a great value you get a compliation of two great albums that will get you pumped with its energy! Also there a dvd filled with music videos and show how big balzac is in japan and how great they are live.

1 out of 5 stars Utter nonsense - you may think it's a joke.......2005-10-28

Yikes. I know this band basically guaranteed their (minimal) success by sucking up to Jerry Only and stroking his massive ego, but just stay far, far away from this. Why bother listening to wannabes when the original material from the Misfits is readily available? If you really need proof, track down Balzac's cover version of "Don't Open 'Till Doomsday" or "Devil's Whorehouse." I guess if you're looking for whiny, unintelligible vocals with a heavy Japanese accent and substandard imitations of Misfits guitar work...well, go nuts. But you've been warned.

1 out of 5 stars Thanks Jerry Only!!! Thanks a lot!!!.......2005-10-17

I don't need "MISFITS" wannabe's in the good ol' united states so I definetely dont need some woah woah ooh crap sung in japanese! Buy Earth a.d., Static Age,Walk Among Us,Legacy of Brutality or hell even Evilive to see what these losers wish they were. Just cause your songs are like fater than hell doesn't mean their good.

5 out of 5 stars You get the total package here.......2005-08-23

This group is essentially the Japanese version of the Misfits; right down to their musical style, look, and presentation. That's okay though, because the Misfits are cool with them. In fact, they introduced them to the U.S. This collection is two albums combined into one for a total of 22 furious and raucous tracks. Don't let their hardcore punk label fool you either, they can lay down some great anthems too. You get a bonus DVD with videos, live performances, and more audio tracks.

    Customer Reviews:

    3 out of 5 stars South Korean Black/Death Metal.......2005-03-31

Oathean is a South Korean band labeled as melodic Black Metal by The End Records, but to me, they seem more like a Death Metal band with strong Scandinavian influences, some black-ish vocals and synth arrangements, and bits and pieces of folk music. Obvious influences are Dark Tranquillity circa Projector/Haven and earlier Dissection, with highly melodic songwriting, harsh vocals, fast drumming and classical keyboard work.

After the short intro, the longest song, "Wandering Soul", opens the album giving a fairly good idea of what Oathean's Fading Away into the Grave of Nothingness sounds like. Slow, classical music-inspired synths surround somewhat formulaic guitar riffs and screamed vocals. The drummer on the album uses a triggered drum kick from beginning to end, and it gets a tad boring after while. He does play fine within the context of the song, but his tone is a bit dry and he is mixed higher than the bass and guitars and kind of drowns them during some moments. However, the song being very melodic, it manages to hold the listener's interest, as long as they don't want to hear anything ground-breaking.

The song "Life of Suffering Craving the Darkness" may be the reason why Oathean is considered Black Metal by some. I seem to detect some tremelo picking here with shrieking vocals and evil keyboard melodies. Most of the album flows in a similar vein -- steady fast-paced, melodic, brutal extreme metal. It only slightly strays away on "Scent of Longing", as it begins with a folky vibe, builds up on melancholic piano and introduces female vocals, only to be replaced by the singer's brutal screams which recall the Japanese band Sigh. "Road to..." is the album's finale. Its lyrics are printed in Korean in the booklet, but the song is instrumental. It is rather interesting, as it's centred around a strange Korean (?) instrument that I've never heard before. It's got an interesting sound, something like a violin sound played by the flute. There are also two bonus songs on the album, "In Fear With Shiver" and "Money from the Tobacco Pouch". The former is a live song, whilst the latter once again features the female singer singing over nice folky acoustic guitars. This is nothing you haven't heard before, but it does serve its purpose I guess.
