Be aware to the gathering from the early YEARS. The sound quality could be better but i enjoyed this album , and found great materials ("downfall " for example . i wish they would record it in new edition with all the other tracks). " THE GATHERING DEMO WAS REQUESTED BY MANY PEOPLE " AND " THE GATHERING WHERE PLAYING , IN THOSE YEARS, AS SUPPORT ACT TO PARADISE LOST ( SHADES OF GOD ERA ) " .

I greatly enjoy the Gathering's music beginning with Mandylion and continuing up to the present. So when I saw this in a record store I was intrigued because I had not heard anything the Gathering had done before adding Anneke van Giersbergen to the band. Let me help you out and say that if you love the Gathering at least partially because of Anneke, avoid this set of early works. Also, if you take pleasure in doom metal, listening to groups such as My Dying Bride, Anathema, Amorphis, November's Doom, etc. then please do not be tricked into buying this regrettable collection because I believe you will be deeply disappointed. The case had a sticker announcing that only 10,000 copies would be produced, and I should have taken that as a warning. There is good reason for limiting production, and even this number is insanely ambitious. The vocals are horrible and the music is mostly dull. It surprises me that any of the people on this CD could also be members of the Gathering today, but however unlikely I suppose that must be true. I don't want to be overly harsh because the Gathering have certainly discovered a different voice since excreting this rubbish. Thankfully they have improved so much so as to be unrecognizable from what we can hear on this disc. Stick with the Anneke-era albums (may it continue indefinitely) and experience the wonderful contributions the band has given for our musical pleasure. But beware this assortment of trash and spend your money, hard-earned or otherwise, on their later albums.
