Good quality japanese 80's metal.......2007-05-22
When it comes to Loudness'american released english language albums, this one is the best. This is the first Loudness album that incorporated some slight elements of pop but it was just right and would give way to an even poppier sounding next album, Hurricane Eyes although that album was a disappointment because they took that pop sound way too far. This album,Lightning Strikes has great songs and it is a must have for fans of 80's metal. The guitar work of Akira Takasaki is great and is on par with people like Eddie Van Halen. The vocals are great too.Faster paced songs like"Face to Face" and"Black Star Oblivion" sound like speed metal. This band shows that they are versatile as well as being extremely talented.Every 80's metal collection should have Loudness in it.
Unique/Punched in the gut heavy-metal.......2005-09-20
Loudness "Lightning Strikes" I think was one of the most memorable sounding albums I'd ever heard before. The completely unique "riffs" and "japanese styling" in the guitars will not disappoint you 'guaranteed'. This album "kicks" from start to finish and you can listen to it over and over again and it just keeps getting better. I had'nt heard this album for years but hearing it again reminded me of how the music variations could pick you up and "slam you to the ground without remorse". A totally "fingers on fire" guitar assault that's nonstop. This is truly one on my favorites in the "80's Hairbands" genre. Don't miss this one if your a fan of that genre too!!!!!
"start a fire tonight".......2005-07-13
The first album I heard by Loudness was Thunder in the East. It is one of my all-time favorite 1980s metal albums. I did not think I needed to check out any other Loudness record since none could come close to Thunder; at least, that is what I thought. Well, I was wrong. Their next release in 1986 Lightning Strikes demonstrates how lightning can strike twice for a band. I was reluctant at first but, after listening to this album many times, I proclaim Lightning better than Thunder. Every track is amazing and it includes my all-time favorite Loudness track (just topping my previous favorite "No Way Out").
"Let It Go" is an awesome opener. It is an upbeat rocker with addictive hooks. Very accessible. The next track, however, is my all-time favorite Loudness song: "Dark Desire." I can't praise it enough. The guitar riffs are addictive and the pounding drums are incredible! It just makes you want to rock out! I find myself hitting the "repeat track" button on this one (well, actually, I move the needle or push the rewind button). My future metal compilation tapes will always include this track! "1000 Eyes" continues the trend of incredible tracks. It has a powerful opening riff with excellent guitar at the verses up to the chorus. Niihara's vocals at the chorus seem a bit strained, but they do not detract from the song. The song just rocks! "Face to Face" is a fast and blazing track. "Who Knows" is highlighted by Akira Takasaki's guitarwork as is usually the case for Loudness. His playing here is not so much heavy and rocking as it is a virtuoso's style much like Eddie Van Halen.
The second half of the album begins with another stellar track. "Ashes in the Sky" opens with beautiful guitar and vocals then explodes into a powerful song with thundering drums. It is a slower track but with a lot of depth and is also catchy. It offers a superb guitar solo. "Black Star Oblivion" is a furious track with pounding drums and flying guitars. The guitar riff right before the chorus is what I remember the most as well as its killer guitar solo. "Street Life Dream" is an excellent, straight-forward rocker. "Complication" is a nice ending track with pleasant vocals but not losing its rocking edge.
I had thought Thunder was Loudness' zenith but Lightning Strikes shows that there was still a little ways to go before they reached their peak; well, the peak of Loudness with English lyrics anyway. I have not heard the earlier material the band put out in Japan with Japanese lyrics, but I have heard it is incredible. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike again the next year with the disappointing Hurricane Eyes (unlike the Thunder and Lightning, the Hurricane was a true disaster) and, after Niihara was fired from the band, I lost interest.
AWESOME Metal from Japan!!!.......2005-02-09
When I first heard the new Loudness single "Crazy Nights" in 1985 that introduced the band to mainstream America, I thought it was a joke. Ok here is some Japanese band that is mimicing all the American hair metal bands in one big cliche. A year later this album came out and I got it and I was completely blown away. This wasn't just some Japanese copy band. They were the real deal. Blistering licks, awesome riffs, catchy rhthyms; I was HOOKED! Forget the vocals and just listen to the voice as another instrument in the mix. It works! Defintely one of the best metal bands not only of the '80's, but ever. I saw them play live around '87 or so and they were awesome. They had fantastic sound, crunching guitars, and it was one of the best shows I ever saw. I wish I could've seen them again. Ah, the good old daze! ;-P
Spectacular!.......2005-01-01
This is probably my all time favorite cd. I remember draggin a friend all around Tampa Florida to find this cd to no avail..alas! the internet was born. EVERY track on here is a masterpiece and the production is second to none..the vocals and guitar are awesome and full of melody!

My favorite Molly Hatchet album.......2003-11-19
When I got this CD, I couldn't take it out of my player. Every tune is a gem. It's not as gritty as some of the earlier releases, and doesn't have the triple guitar sound of the earlier albums, but it is very polished sounding and is definitly the most melodic of all of their work, in my opinion.
John Galvin get put way up front in the mix with his keyboards and gets to sing with the amazing Danny Joe Brown, on Goodbye To Love. Bobby Ingram and Duane Roland do some great guitar work in tunes such as There Goes the Neighborhood and Take Miss Lucy Home.
There are a couple of ballads, but for me, the highlight of the album is the tune I Can't Be Watching You. It has some great piano work by John G and has a very jazzy feel to it.
To me, this is what southern rock is all about, guitars, a great singer, awesome piano work, and mostly, the story that is being told.

Yet Another Great Hatchet Job.......2007-04-02
LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE is yet another great CD by Molly Hatchet, and the first with Bobby Ingram replacing Dave Hlubek on guitar. Many people dislike this album because of the first five albums, and because this one has a lot of outside material, but their kids should pay the price by being loaded down with homework in school, because even though some trademark elements of the band's sound are gone, and pianist John Galvin has a more prominent role, many other key parts of what made this band special remain. The fact that the surviving members of Molly Hatchet, past and prersent, advocate sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, increased funding for law enforcement, and capital punishment for kidnappers, makes LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
This is a different pace, missing Hlubek's influence, but good!.......2005-09-10
This album was the first for Bobby Ingram, and first for Molly Hatchet without Dave Hlubek. The album takes on a more traditional approach to Southern Rock. Gone are the heavy sound of the triple guitars, but there are still some harmony leads. What this album has done is put keyboardist John Galvin on a pedestal, and takes on more of a blues based Southern "boogie woogie" feel, more like Skynyrd. I know a lot of people do not like this album, because it doesn't sound like the traditional heavy Molly Hatchet of the first 4 albums, but songs like "There Goes the Neighborhood" and "I Can't Be Watching You" are actually quite good. Probably could have pulled this off more effectively with less horns and female background vocals, but it's fun to listen to.

Best Band Ever!!!.......2005-07-28
This CD rocks! A must have for anyone with any taste in music! If you like real rock, check this out!!!
Incredible.......2005-01-07
I haven't been a Hellacopters fan for that long, I really never was into rock and roll bands for the most part. I was, and still am, a huge fan of Entombed, and was disappointed when Nicke Andersson left the band. His impact on them was huge, and you could tell something was missing on later albums,(though still a great band). More recently I found myself wanting something more out of my music, instead of the more extreme metal I usually listen to. Enter
The Hellacopters. They opened my mind and my musical tastes to a whole other world. This mini cd is no exception. I've purchased their other "full length" albums including Cream of the Crap 1&2
and tried to pick up other side project discs like The Hydromatics and Backyard Babies. I've grown to love alot of these
rawk bands, but still none compares to The Hellacopters. So if you like real rock and roll that will stick to your brain for days, pick this up along with their other discs, you wont be sorry.

Album Description
This music could be called Pop Flamenco, Nouveau Flamenco or just plain Flamenco Fusion. It reflects George's multi cultural background and the variety of his musical experiences. The acoustic, nylon string guitar is always prominent and provides both the smooth, romantic textures and the passionate, driving energy in this album. George uses flamenco techniques such as picados and rasquedos to provide the flamenco style, but uses pop and Latin rhythms as the vehicle to carry his message. His melodies embrace and convey these rhythms and are, at once, flamenco, Latin and pop. Backing up his exquisite guitar is an ensemble of musical instruments including a tight rhythm section of bass, drums, percussion and piano.
It's unusual for a virtuoso instrumentalist to also sing, but George joins those few artists like George Benson and Eric Clapton who have mastered the guitar and can deliver strong compelling vocal as well. In essence, these artists have been blessed with two instruments with which to speak and weave their magic.
Beginnings and Ojos Negros are original flamenco-styled, pop guitar solos with soothing, medium tempo rhythms. De Par en Par is a more up tempo flamenco/Latin song where George sings (in Spanish) with a little salsa flavor. In Kudos, George's beautiful flamenco guitar dialogues back and forth with his vocals (in English) which give us an inspiring message of hope and encouragement. The mood changes in Rosas Romanticas, a classical and flamenco type guitar solo, as we slow down to a mellow and romantic pace. Cruising is closer to smooth jazz than the other compositions. The strolling, relaxing quality of the piece gives it it's name as we wander through a comfortable journey of flamenco/pop textures. Mirame, Tocame, Besame (Spanish) show us George's fine voice as he woos us in this sexy, romantic Latin ballad. Rescatando Tu Amor (Spanish) is another romantic song with a poignant lyric about rescuing a jilted lover. Lightning Strikes Again is the title track. It starts off in a slow haunting guitar solo, very flamencoish, and ends in an up tempo song (English) describing inspiration and emotional breakthroughs.
