The fact that this album only has 3 stars at the time of this writing is a travesty. Even though there was technically one before it (Night Crawls In), I consider this to be the Cruxshadows' first album because it really sets the stage for their style, mythological themes, and the enigmatic story of the Angel IV. Really, if you could call any of their albums "conceptual", this would be the one. The songs are said in the CD book to be "transmissions" of an intelligent satellite, starting with "Descension" and ending with the actual crash. Yet in between you meet Egyptian gods in "Jackal-Head", the Greek God "Prometheus", and tarot symbolism in "Hanged Man". That's really just brushing the surface. The amazing thing about the Cruxshadows is their ability to mix evocative music with multi-layered lyrics. You can take it all literally if you wish, but there is so much more. And of course "Marilyn My Bitterness" is, as even the most casual fan knows, one of their most popular songs to this day, but only one of the great songs on here.

The style is perhaps not so polished and evolved as their later albums (Ethernaut or DreamCypher) but neither is it rough. There's a haunting purity and mystery to the whole feel of the album that carries into The Mystery of the Whisper (the album following this one.) Some tracks are instrumental with effects to set the mood (for example "Miss Fortune Returns", an eerie carnivalian interlude). I love every song on here.

If you're new to the Cruxshadows, the sound is not typical goth. Nor is it typical anything. Definitely darkwave, with a couple danceable songs.

The original release was great; this remastered version is even better. And the art by Mandem in the CD book is beautiful. This is a must for fans and great for anyone wanting to see the beginning of the story, so to speak. Highly recommended.

This band is so rediculous. they are basicly the goth version of The Backstreet Boys. The music on thois album is hardley satnic...hardley has anything to do with a "fallen" angel of any sort. Only the title of the album is good...the music is not.

Rematered early CXS album. OK, but nothing too exciting. Marilyn My Bitterness is an excellent tune, but ends up being the only decent one on the CD.

I own the original release of this album, which is quite an extraordinary collection of telemetries and melodies, but the sound quality of the old version was not quite as good as I'd wished for. This new version of the album is great, the sound quality is very sharp and clear, and makes the songs all that much more fun to dance to. "Walk Away" is all that much more haunting. There are also a few little extras on the CD... a music video, and a flash gallery of ancient band pics! New life has been breathed into an already amazing album!

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month!That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included,especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though,there is a complain:i can't understand,why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song,the cues from the Bacchaen festival,music from Deja Vou All Over Again,where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest!That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style,should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes.It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song,will agree with me!Mmmm!

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

      I had the privelige of seeing Starz when they were first on the rise. A beautiful pre-spring day in March 1977,'Cherry Baby' was starting to get noticed, and I had third row seats to Starz as the opening band to Bob Seger on the 'Night Moves' tour. Starz came on at 8:00, opening with 'Violation' blew our minds, eyes and ears for the next hour and a half,and I feel they could have kept going if not for the fact that drummer Joe Dube collapsed on his drums and had to be carried off the stage in what was the only disappointing moment of the evening. This band had something that most people were not able to fully appreciate....THEY CAME TO ROCK!!!!! No fancy light shows or special effects, just being great for who they were and how they sounded---a band that was not given the time or attention they deserved.

      I have been raised on rock. When Starz came out in the mid 70's, it was a breath of fresh air. These boys rock. For anybody who doesn't really knows this band, the have the ... to roll a 4 track recorder with them and record their live show, then put it out as an album. That takes guts. This album represents some of their finer songs. Although there really isn't any song they have done I have disliked... Get the CD and see for yourself. "GOTTA ROCK 6 TIMES ALRIGHT!

      I saw Starz live with Styx and Peter Frampton a few months before Frampton made it big in the mid-70s. I hoped that Starz would make it big, but Styx made it bigger. Oh well, anyway its a pleasant high school memory from the 70s.

      This CD is a great compilation of Starz early rock tunes...Pull The Plug is a mesmorizing live tune, much like Cheap Trick's "Need Your Love". Boys In Action, Subway Terror, Live Wire, Cherry Baby and the rest are solid amped rockers that make this one terrific purchase! For even more, the "Brightest Starz Anthology" has all the great material from the studio, that rocks every bit as much as the live CD (Amazon just delivered mine today...It's now available) If you're a fan, buy these CDs. If you like to rock... these deliver! SJ from So. Cal.

      After recording my albums to cassette, I thought I'd never be able to hear Starz on CD. This CD has top quality sound, and the song selections are excellent. These underated rockers deserve to be heard. When the anthology CD is available, I will be at the head of the line. Great memories have been rekindled thanks to this CD. If you like rock at it's roots, buy this CD!

        The Cruxshadows is one of the most highly talented, unique, amazing bands I've ever had the pleasure of listening to! Rogue's voice captures you with the first word and, along with the music, carries you somewhere else, away from the everyday stress of life. Not only the music, but the lyrics themselves....everyone means something and you'll be surprised by which ones resonate within your soul.

        Telemetry is such an absolutely amazing album in many respects; First, the music itself is heartfelt, and with the new remastered version coming soon, We'll hear it even better.
        But secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the content brings so much meaning to this album. Where many bands just make music, the Cruxshadows make poetry and epic stories. Telemetry begins one of my favorite CXS themes, the Angel cycle.
        I could explain in depth (and have in the past); but I think if you purchase this album it can explain itself to you, and you can find your own meaning in it all.

        This CD is phenominally ground- breaking, what I consider to be the perfect example of singer Rogue's amazing story-telling talent. With old legends, inner battles, and gripping lyrics, this album is a necessity! With "Marilyn My Bitterness" for anyone who's ever loved and lost, as well as "Monsters", a song which I cannot resist the urge to dance to, although I have heard it hundreds of times! It is hard for me to imagine anyone who is into goth/darkwave-type music not adoring this album!

        5 out of 5 stars An essential must have cd!.......2004-01-18

        I discoverd The Cruxshadows a few years ago, and heard this CD after hearing two newer releases. However, this cd is just as wonderful as all of the rest. I've been fortunate to see the group live several times, and I have never seen such an amazing live performance! The band has so much energy and the lead singer, Rogue, is all over the place. He walks through the audience, he makes eye contact with the fans as he singing - its incredibly, wonderfully intense. Rogue has an irresistable charisma that comes through in every word he sings. "Monsters", "Marilyn, My Bitterness", and "Clerestory" are some of the stand out songs on this cd, but they are all wonderful.

        This album released three singles (I think it was three) before it was finally available to the public (knew you could do it Jamie). The first one released was perhaps the strongest track here, 'Ready To Run', a hybrid roots rock tune. Wonderful.

        My favourite is the smooth mid-tempo tune that makes memories come back like a storybook, 'One Step Back'. Love that the acoustic guitar is very dominant and not a heard wayyyy in the background of this track. See Jamie? You and your producers / musicians know how to make an album/song great. I swear that if I could make this song announced on some wide publicised list as a classic country song....I would.

        The groovy country - groove 'What Goes Around Comes Around', or the ever sweet and tender 'Watching Her Sleep', hit the mark.

        Along with 'One Step BAck', other straight ahead country tunes are 'I Never Knew', or 'Still Only Me'...great backroad tunes.

        Watch out for the stirring 'The Secret', an award deserving song to the end of time.

        Ironically, I also have his 'Just Not The Same' , his more rock /country oriented sophmore album.....equal of quality and musicianship as this one. And he signed it at a radio station during a giveaway party in 1998, and I ran into Beverley Mahood in a shopping Mall in Willowdale (north suburb of Toronto)in 2001, one of his longtime friends and fellow musicans who they both sing background vocals for each other from time to time. I got her to sign his album too. Thanks Jamie (you too Beverley) for making great music. And it's Canadian !

        P.S. - Thanks to Jamie And Beverly Mahood for also being great examples of independant artists. They bring out the best work.

        5 out of 5 stars A refreshing soaulful sound for country music.......1998-06-13

        Jamie Warren's debut album Fallen Angel is something he obviously put his heart into. It is packed with 12 perfect songs that he either wrote or co-wrote and he sings them with the emotion that they deserve in his sweet baritone voice. How good is he? Three times in the past year I've traveled 800 miles to Canada just to hear him sing. If you want to hear something other than the cookie cutter cowboy on the radio today buy this CD NOW!
