Presence is one of Led Zeppelin's more overlooked albums, languishing in the monstrous shadow of its predecessor, Physical Graffiti. It's more noted in Zeppelin mythology for the circumstances in which it was recorded, in double-quick time with vocalist Robert Plant's leg in plaster after a car accident. The lack of time does show--much of the album feels like generic heavy rock, bigger on volume than variety. It's worth the price of the album, however, for the 10-minute-plus "Achilles Last Stand" (a crashing, galloping epic with John Bonham sounding like he's replaced his drumsticks with tree trunks) and "Nobody's Fault but Mine," a Blind Willie Johnson blues regenerated with a 3,000-watt boost by Jimmy Page. --David Stubbs

2 out of 5 stars 2 1/2 stars-- shedding the excess........2007-05-09

Judging by its followup, I'm not the only one who felt that "Physical Graffiti" was a bit overblown and self-indulgent, apparently Led Zeppelin did too. It's next album was as close as the band would ever come to a stripped down approach, eschewing the keyboards and grand arrangements for electric guitar driven, riff-based rock. In principle, I'm a fan-- nothing like shedding all that extra weight, but in practice, "Presence" works out to be surprisingly pedestrian and likely the weakest album in the band's catalog.

It's not that anything on here is particularly bad-- it's just that the songs lack anything exciting or distinguishing about them-- they've all got that "album track" feel. The lack of texture generates a sameness to the album, further accentuated by vocalist Robert Plant sitting in a more comfortable middle register for the entire record. It drifts from one unmemorable riff-based slice ("For Your Life") to another (the sluggish blues "Tea For One"), with the occasional interlude provided by embracing '50s style rock 'n' roll ("Candy Store Rock", and to a lesser extent "Hots on For Nowhere"). Again, none of it is bad, it's just not terribly exciting. The exception is opener "Achilles Last Stand"-- a startlingly concise slice of riff-based rock for a 10 minute performance and the staggering Blind Willie Johnson remake, "Nobody's Fault But Mine", with its fierce energy and a fine honking harmonica solo.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who felt this way about the record-- Zeppelin only performed "Achilles Last Stand" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine" live. There's enough good material on here to make it worth having, but this is not among the band's finer moments.

4 out of 5 stars Led Zeppelin - 'Presence' (Atlantic) .......2007-02-13

Review no. 193. Originally released in 1976, this was their follow-up to their double-album landmark 'Physical Graffiti' (see my review). I've always liked this album. Just always thought the cover was pretty lame. Immaterial,no? Zeppelin's seventh 'proper' lp. Tracks that make this CD reissue a should-have are the ten-minute opening masterpiece (as far as I'm concerned) "Achilles Last Stand", the total blues rocking "Nobody's Fault But Mine", the rockabilly-like "Candy Store Rock" and the somewhat funky "Hots On To Nowhere". Long live ZEPPELIN!

5 out of 5 stars The Object.......2007-02-13

Why this cd gets four star rating is beyond me. The cd rocks from top to bottom. The first full-blown electric Led Zeppelin recording just chills me to the bones. I cranked up Hots On For Nowhere one time so loud I could not hear right for a week afterwards. This cd is way under-rated in my opinion and I bought it the first day it hit the shelves and has been my second favorit LZ album since followed by Physical Graffiti.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Zeppelin.......2007-02-05

Presence is a greatly underrated bluesy rockin' album from one of my all-time favorite bands. I hadn't listened to it in a long time until today and loved hearing it again. I don't understand the criticism of this album. Hello? It's Zeppelin people. Be happy with anything you have from them.

Achilles Last Stand, Nobody's Fault but Mine and Tea for One--all amazing and all favorites.

Jimmy plays a blazing guitar throughout. Bonzo is brilliant. Robert's moaning in itself is always a reason for this girl to listen--especially on the bluesy Tea for One. He's a honeydripper all right, oozing sex with that voice like no other. Turn on the fans, please.

4 out of 5 stars groovy and funky.......2007-01-21

Maybe the best way to compare Presence to the other Zeppelin records is to say that it's different. And the main way that it's different is its focus on the groove. Some of the previous records had contained groovy/funky moments ("Custard Pie," "Trampled Underfoot," "The Ocean," etc.), but Presence seems pretty much committed to it. That's why I like it. I don't know that I like it better than Physical Graffiti or IV, but that's not a burning issue for me. I just like it.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-07-19

This CD is alright, But it doesn't seem to have the impact of previous works by Chuck Loeb. The title track Presence isn't what I expected.
I would strongly suggest intense listening a few times.

5 out of 5 stars Presence - Chuck Loeb.......2007-07-06

I'm a Chuck Loeb fan and this album does not disappoint. Track 1 and Track 5 are my favorites. If you want to bunp things up a knotch to an uptempo album try Chuck's EBOP album. Sonny

4 out of 5 stars Smooth return finds Loeb in fine style.......2007-06-06

Presence finds Chuck Loeb squarely back in the smooth jazz camp after two solo releases that veered more toward straight ahead. It's a welcome return. While the New York guitarist's work with projects such as Steps Ahead and Metro prove that he has the chops to play straight, his pop-jazz style is more accomplished.

One of the veterans of the smooth jazz scene, Lobe has, besides recording more than half a dozen of his own solo projects, produced for Spyro Gyra, Bob James, Walter Beasley, Larry Coryell, Jeff Kashiwa, and Kim Waters, among others. He has written for film and television, and in his early career in the 70's was the composer, arranger and bandleader for the Stan Getz Orchestra.

Like the best of his previous work, Presence is remarkable for Loeb's light touch on the guitar, on songs like the elegiac title track written for Loeb's recently deceased father-in-law, or in his lilting acoustic lines on the James Taylor cover, Shed a Little Light, or in just the right amount of country twang in The Western Sky (in which Loeb trades lead with Till Bronner's plaintive trumpet).

On hand for this recording, his first on Heads Up Records, is a host of Loeb's past and present touring band mates, as well as guests Andy Snitzer, Paul Brown, Dave Mann, Till Bronner, Wolfgang Haffner, Mitchel Forman, and vocalist Carmen Cuesta-Loeb. Altogether a stellar cast for a fine recording.

Welcome back, Chuck.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2007-05-09

aThis cd is really a piece of jazz memorabilia. I had never heard Chuck before and found his melodies both soothing and [...]. He reminds me of the Chuck Mangione era of jazz when the greats were popping and the wannabe's went hopping. Excellent tones and rhythmic unity on all of his collaborations

4 out of 5 stars Harmonious........2007-03-04

This album includes a group of soothing songs that consolidate certain musical instruments to encapsulate a virtually perfect jazz album.
"Good To Go" is a jovial rollick complete with guitar work from Loeb and string work from Mitchel Forman. It's an upbeat song that will get you in a peppy mood.
"Rikki Don't Lose That Number" has synthesizer bass work and fender Rhodes play from Loeb as well as from Mike Ricchiuti and Matt King. Loeb also utilizes his keyboard skills which make this opus an unforgettable one.
"Window of the Soul" is a soulful rhythmic composition that has drum work from Wolfgang Haffner, Brian Dunne and Josh Dion, acoustic bass play from Christian Diener, keyboard work from Loeb and percussion play from Dion for a track that muses different types of instruments into one harmonious exposition.
"Starting Over" has skillful piano play from King, more keyboard and fender Rhodes work from Loeb, Ricchiuti and King for a track that has a marginally modified vibe than the others.
Chuck Loeb's "Presence" definitely has its own charisma and has its own brand of magnetism.
Enjoy !

5 out of 5 stars God's Presence felt!!!.......2007-01-29

I can't express enough how powerful the message of God is in this album. From the second you play "alone in his presence" you know you are entering into a spiritual realm where the presence of God is felt. This album has been a favorite of my family and I for years. I have been following cece's career ever since she started with bebe in the 80's. I just cannot pin point a certain song that stands out because every song carries a great message that speaks to the heart. Alot of these songs on this release are heard in church services all over the world today which shows you the staying power of these songs. Also there are many songs on this release that deal with many aspects in life that we go through. The best part is that along with the songs dealing with the aspects of life, the songs also provide answers to the problems we face through the word of God supplied on this album which are found in the scriptures provided for each song. If your trying to get to build an intimmate LOVE relationship with God, or trying to learn his ways I would prefer you get this classic release from cece winans. God bless you Cece for allowing God to use you in the ministry you have been a blessing to my family and I!!!

5 out of 5 stars Life saving masterpiece.......2005-09-18

"Alone in His Presence" is a must if you are going through any kind of wilderness experience in your life and you need to be assured that God is always near you. In 1999, I spent some time in hospital due to life threatening pregnancy-related illness and I can honestly say along with the medical staff that were treating me that it was this album and this album alone that saved my life. The medics kept on saying to me "whatever you're listening to, keep playing it because it's working!" This album is a must!!

5 out of 5 stars Annointed.......2003-08-06

God used this album to bring some great breakthroughs in my life. I definitely recommend this album for anyone going through the storms and even for those in a time of rejoicing.

5 out of 5 stars So Sweet........2003-03-05

This CD will give you a feeling of comfort. Since this was her first solo, it was more of praise and worship. Her version of "I Surrender All", and "Blessed Assurance" are amazing. She sings them so well. I love "His Strength is Perfect" and "He's Always There."

5 out of 5 stars This album is so beautiful!.......2001-07-09

Never before have anyone came along and sung as beautifully as Cece Winanas. Her songs are filled with so many emotions that her love for God is heard clearly throughout her album. Some songs like the "Blood Medley" or "I Surrender All" will bring tears to your eyes because CeCe sings it with such passion that you become overwhelmed with love for God. Whether you like ballads, upbeat songs, praise songs, or laid back songs you should buy this album because there's songs on here to suit everyone's taste in music. This album really helped me get in touch with God and love him even more than I do now.

Album Description

You Can Relax Now offers nine songs to soothe, inspire and uplift the listener. Some tell a story, some weave a chant, some offer a new look at familiar spiritual concepts. Each song, in its own way, affirms the presence of the Divine in all things. The collection includes: "Each Holy Child" and other new songs by Shaina, a revisiting of "You Can Relax Now" which was first recorded for her "Songs For The Inner Child", "All Is Well", and innovative interpretations of "Silent Night" and "Angels Watching Over Me". Shaina's distinctive vocals are backed up by her own work on piano and keyboards, lush harmonies, guitar, cello and recorder.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Inspired Singing.......2004-02-05

If you are looking to uplift your mood-or your consciousness-listen to Shaina Noll. This new CD, You Can Relax Now, is as charming as Songs for the Inner Child, her first. Again, each piece is sung with simplicity, love and clarity. Sheer elegance. The recorder, cello, guitar and piano add richness.
I've always felt that Shaina simultaneously sings to two universal themes within us: the vulnerable inner child and the expansive realized One. She's doing it again--holding our hand as we proceed on the journey.
Shaina writes to the listener: ..."each of these songs deeply supported me in making the transition from a life based in fear to a life based in trust." Her accomplishment with that transition resonates in the way she sings each song.
I use Shaina's collections to soothe myself or help my friends relax at difficult times. I heartily recommend this CD for your library, for the quiet times when you want to connect with the Divinity that you are, and the Divinity that surrounds you.

5 out of 5 stars Lullabies for Stressed Adults.......2004-01-23

Shaina Noll's musical talents are an important piece of the beauty of this CD. Her voice is clear, pure, and seems effortless and unforced at all times. The arrangements are wonderful, soothing, and relaxing. But to me the most powerful part of this is the spiritual energy and healing love which infuses every song.

Shaina's CDs are an important and powerful part of my own healing journey. As with so many people, I find myself often struggling with fears and doubts."You Can Relax Now" is perfect for those times, offering what I experience as lullabies for adults, powerful because there is nothing artifical or inauthentic in them, but they are straight from Shaina's heart. At times they contradict my old recordings so exactly that many healing tears come. At other times I simply remember to breathe again, more deeply. When I need to, I can imagine myself curled up in her lap, being sheltered from the storms of life.

The qualities of unself-conscious, un-held-back genuine tenderness and love and reassurance expressed in these CDs are quite rare in my experience. They could only have come from her dwelling in the truth she sings. She sings as if there is no one to impress, no one to convince, no one watching and judging, just a pure offering of love. What a precious gift!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music for the Holidays.......2002-11-01

The CD "You Can Relax Now" invites its listeners to slow down,
and allow themselves to be soothed by Shaina Noll's angelic, nurturing voice and gentle, contemplative music. Shaina accompanies herself artfully on piano and with rich harmonizing vocals, and is supported by other talented musicians as she weaves together storytelling and chants offering the message that 'All Is Divine'.

This spiritually inspired and eloquently soulful CD has a clarity and simplicity which, while very relaxing, is also deeply moving.
I particularly like listening to it in my art studio, where it helps me sink into a quiet place in myself that supports creative
inspiration and expression.

I highly recommend this beautiful CD as the holidays approach. Its
serenity and affirmation of the Divine in each of us, is a welcome
alternative to traditional seasonal music.

- Laura Ellis

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful!.......2002-10-20

Since I first played this CD I have listened to it with my children every night as they go to sleep. This recording is truly a masterpiece! Soothing to the heart and yet musically so beautiful. The harmonies move my heart. Shaina and Richard have so masterfully but together some beautiful work. You can "hear" the love they have to share with the world.

5 out of 5 stars Another amazing creation from the Singing Heart.......2002-10-09

My experience with Shaina personally has been so pleasant. Even though I am only a fan she has been kind to answer my e-mails and questions I have. Shaina's music comes from years of personal work and also caring for her children. You can hear the love she shares with her husband through his contributions to her latest recording, You Can Relax Now. I am a minister/therapist in the upstate area of SC and regularly use Shaina's music to soothe my patients and encourage them to relax and meditate. It helps them into a place where they can open up in our sessions and begin to heal. My own experience has been one of healing as well and I have spent many hours listening to Shaina Noll's haunting, soothing melodies from her Singing Heart. She has through her music helped me along my own journey with Spirit and the qualities of her music have healed my heart and mind and opened the well of my soul. Shaina's music tells us we can relax and live at Peace as we were intended to all along. What a relief!

5 out of 5 stars The Best metal band.......2007-02-06

Atheist is the most amazing metal band. You will never forget their songs after you listen to them.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Fusion Metal.......2006-10-30

Atheist were a band like none other. With talent shining through their music, they really made an impact on metal. However, the band's discography has been out of print for quite some time after the band disbanded. But with the help of the legendary Relapse records, we can now witness the talent and brilliance of Atheist again, with extras thrown in!

What you get on this album is the original 8 tracks, which show the band's uniqueness and how they can perfectly fit in technical metal and jazz together. This has been tagged as death metal by fans, but if it is to be compared to any death metal bands, I would say the technical ones like Death and Cynic, and not bands like Cannibal Corpse and Deicide. Still, Atheist is unique in every matter.

Don't miss out on this if you enjoy technical death metal. Even if you're not that much into brutality, you will enjoy it and witness the talent that flows through this band.

5 out of 5 stars CLose minded S***heads need no apply.......2006-10-18

Yeah, back off if you are looking for the usual death metal sounds you hear. It's Jazz metal, so see some melody as well. DOn't be fooled by the genre name, there's np jazz sessions. It's catchy as F*** death metal. People actually call death metal worthless, yet they listen to Lil Jon. IF people would actually open their mind and stop thinking all music has to be on the dance floor, then they would actually listen to good music.

If you want to know what kind of music these guys are, they are basically fast technical metal, but with some passages and the music is cathcy. These guys are amazing, technical, but sounds like music. Yes, there are plenty of guitar solos, and drums. Kelly Shafer's vocals might turn you off though, but death grunts don't work with Atheist.

However, you can defitly bang your head to t his. Good luck finding it (their albums are difficult to find. Get this, and check out Elements and Piece of Time.

5 out of 5 stars Classic death metal.......2006-09-02

This is an incredible album, way ahead of its time (like 10 years). Is good to see how this kind of music created by Atheist in this album have influenced a lot of bands nowdays and is a pilar in the tech metal sub genre. According to Kelly Shaeffer, during their tours around US in the early 90' many times they just recieved boo's, and get aways and all that kind of things. Right now they releases remasters and all kind of stuff.

Every song is here is great and different, and there is no point of reference for this stuff (maybe cynic, but they are not that alike). I think the best description for the music is death fusion. If you like a leading bass, fast complex drumming, great death metal riffing and crazy song structures, and you are open minded, you would like this record. It is an absolutly must for tech death fans and for late period Death fans. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A staple in tech death.......2006-08-08

This CD is so great. I can't say how awesome it is because Sinvely did it already. These guys may not have as good guitarplaying as Death, but they come pretty damn close. They even it out by having a better bassist. Who would of thought: a death metal band with a bassist who is hearable all throughout? Even though I find Death to be better, these guys are number 2 in tech death. Here's hoping it keeps the 5 star average.

2 out of 5 stars NOT a single NEW song........2006-09-24

Terry Macalmon's other albums are great! This one (contrary to the "Editorial Reviews") has NOTHING new to offer. Every song is on his other albums.

5 out of 5 stars Anointed worship - something altogether!.......2006-06-11

I have a huge collection of Christian CDs, as for me, worship is the means by which I enter into the presence of God. To me, good worship takes our eyes off ourselves, and onto the Almighty God. It leads us to adore the God of our salvation with love and abandonment. Terry Macalmon's The Glory of Your Presence is just amazing in this regard. The songs are all slow in nature, and they are infused with absolute adoration for the King. I cannot describe it, but they have a quality of taking one, it seems, right into the Holy of Holies, into God's throne room. The song "Holy are you Lord" is especially anointed in this regard. In Revelations, the angels proclaim 'Holy, Holy, Holy!' - this album, too, especially emphasizes this quality of God. Perhaps that is what touches the very heart of God. First-rate!

5 out of 5 stars Troy, you never disappoint.......2007-05-02

Once again Troy Sneed takes gospel music to the next level. My favorite song is #5, "Because of You" which puts you in the realm of the Holy Spirit. In matters of the spirit, this CD enhances and guarantees worship and outstsnding praise.

5 out of 5 stars Now I'm in His Presence.......2007-01-10

I originally heard the song "Hallelujiah" on the radio and just had to have it. Of course my biggest fear was that I would not like any of the other songs on the cd. I am happy to say that all the songs on the cd are great. There are no R&B or Hip Hop beats on it ( if I wanted hip hop or r&b I would have continued to listen to secular music. The songs are the type that I listened to when I was a young girl and I can definately feel the Spirit when listening to these songs. Thank you Jesus for this cd.

5 out of 5 stars I believe this is the best of his CD's!!.......2006-10-13

This is truly, TRULY an awesome worship CD. I encourage all to purchase if nothing else but for song #10!!! The Greatest of the Greatest is THE SONG!!! Oh my gosh you have to listen to it. This song will truly usher you into worship. Enjoyed the project.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I'm glad I listened to the positive reviews of this CD!.......2007-03-18

What an amazing worship leader Judith Christie McAllister is! I saw her on "Lift Every Voice" one Sunday morning and liked what she talked about. Worship leaders are not just "good" gospel or P&W singers. They have to be spiritual people; people with a relationship with the Lord that adds fire to what they sing and leads me into worship when I listen to their music. Mrs. McAllister is definitely a true worship leader and this CD proves it. I fell in love with it from the first song. God bless her music ministry and bless those of us who love Him and follow His leading to buy this CD! You will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars "awesome".......2007-03-10

Judy McAllister really knows how to command an audience to worship God. I believe it stems from her years working with Donnie McClurkin. I really enjoyed this CD and I believe others will too.

5 out of 5 stars BLOWN AWAY!.......2007-01-05

I was absolutely amazed at McAllister's In His Presence CD.
I love the song "The Lord's Prayer"!
All of the songs are amazingly powerful! There are some old school songs, a fresh rendition or 2 of some of her previous works and some true worship!
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!

5 out of 5 stars Encounter with God.......2006-11-03

Judith McAllister is my favorite Praise and Worship Leader and this CD really shows her style and flavor. I listen to this CD everyday.

2 out of 5 stars This is contemporary gospel........2006-10-17

This is not strong Praise & Worship by any means. If you like Soul Stirring Worship and Strong Praise this is not the CD for you. Boring!

5 out of 5 stars Presence.......2006-07-16

This in my opinion is one of Zeppelins Greatest albums. Page's guitar riffs, are the thing that set this album apart form anything else that Zeppelin ever did. It sounds like nothing that came before or after it.

5 out of 5 stars Led Zeppelin's most underrated and unfairly criticised album.......2005-11-10

Presence (1976.), Led Zeppelin's seventh studio album

When people consider Led Zeppelin's great albums, the list more than often contains Led Zeppelin I, II and IV or Physical Graffiti. Presence, the 1976 offering from the band rarely gets a mention alongside these classics. Hastily recorded in the aftermath of the huge success of the double album, Physical Graffiti, Presence has become one of the band's more criticised and sometimes forgotten works. However, is this a fairly passed judgment on Led Zeppelin's Presence?

In my opinion, this is easily Led Zeppelin's most unfairly attacked album and it deserves far more praise than it has been given. It never ceases to amaze me why this album is given such a bad press by most people; they describe 'Presence' as the album were Led Zeppelin lost their touch or they just brandish it as incoherant rubbish. All I can gather from this is that these people haven't listened to the work enough or are just one of the old 'so called' Led Zeppelin fans. 'Presence' is a great hard rock record, displaying some of the band's best jams. It is unique in the respect that it features no keyboard or effects; all the sound you hear is vocal, bass, guitar and drums. However, I think this is no bad thing at all. The fact that the band took a calculated step back after Physical Graffiti and tried something not too overambitous is where Presence really succeeds. The song styles are simpler in many respects but at the same time they are driven by very powerful performances from the band members. Afterall, this is Jimmy Page's favourite Led Zeppelin record and you can clearly see why he enjoys this one; his guitar playing is dynamic and inspired throughout. Furthermore, this album features some killer tracks. 'Achilles Last Stand', perhaps the band's greatest epic, features on this album, as does the fan favourite 'Nobody's Fault But Mine'. The album may have been rushed together, recorded in limited time in Germany but to be honest, the music is first rate and deserves five stars all the way. Even more remarkable is Plant's vocal performance on the album; at the time of recording, he was recovering from a car accident and had to actually sing some parts laid down. His vocals are as compelling as ever though.

Led Zeppelin kick off their hard-rocking seventh album with one of their finest tracks. 'Achilles Last Stand' stands as one of the bands most powerful epics. In fact, this 10 minute track alone is worth the price of admission, led by its unwavering groove, a particularly haunting Plant vocal, and several show stopping give and take segments between Page and Bonham. During these thrilling exchanges, Bonham's volcanic drum fills interlock with Page's wailing guitar parts, seizing several moments of tension that build to the bursting point. This awesome opening track is followed by 'For Your Life'. This is classic Zeppelin, and for me another one of their best songs. I can never tire of this song; the strutting riffs from Page's guitar make this song memorable. Plant gives a vintage performance on the vocals, sounding out lyrics about drug taking. Next up though is perhaps the weakest song on the album; still 'Royal Orleans' ain't that bad a song. Plant gives a lyrical take on one night stands, a classic rock n' roll song theme however the melodic backing of the track and the riffs are a bit repetitive. However, at 3 minutes, this weaker track hardly detracts from the albums overall rating.

Then we come to the second half of the album. Robert Plant, whose voice has grown rougher over the years, gives a compelling, stuttered vocal performance on 'Nobody's Fault But Mine', an excellent, hard rocking song. This one is a fan favourite. The song also makes a welcome return of the harmonica to Led Zeppelin's music. 'Candy Store Rock' follows, with some catchy guitar play from Page that has a very 1950's rock n' roll sound to it. 'Hots On For Nowhere' follows and keeps the blood pumping on the album. Many have passed this song off as filler however, I think it's a great song. It's upbeat, has masterful stop-start riffs and some great harmonisation sections, with a 'la, la, la' chorus with funky backbeats. To finish the album is a welcome return to the blues by Led Zeppelin. 'Tea For One' is in a similar vein to 'Since I've Bin Loving You' from LZ III. A little long and drawn out, nevertheless, Plant gives a resounding vocal performance and Page's guitar virtuousity shines through.

All in all, 'Presence' measures up to be a damned good album. True, this album isn't revolutionary, it isn't experimental but the sheer quality of the hard rock songs on the album makes the work a winner. As a seasoned Led Zeppelin fan, 'Presence' has over time become one of the band's works that I listen to more; I would even on some days, place this album in the league of some of the band's earlier work. 'Presence' is a sadly underrated classic album from the great band and many seem to ignore it. My advice is to not start a Led Zeppelin collection with this album, but certainly to obtain it once you really start getting into the band's music. This is Led Zeppelin's last classic album and it deserves some RESPECT!

MY RATING: 9/10

3 out of 5 stars Pretense.......2004-08-21

This is one of Led Zeppelin's weaker albums, in my opinion. "Nobody's Fault But Mine" ranks up there with Zeppelin's best work. But the rest of the album is not up their usual standards. I know that some people think that "Achilles Last Stand" is one of their best songs, but I think it's overrated. If you only buy one Led Zeppelin album, it shouldn't be this one.

5 out of 5 stars killer zep.......2003-06-22

I've heard Daniel sing for the first time in the cristal cathedral and was instantly grapped with his wonderful voice

5 out of 5 stars Spiritual.......2006-11-11

The first time I heard of Daniel Rodriguez, he sang "Amazing Grace" on the Jay Leno show. I was unexpectedly moved to tears. I think anyone who hears the CD "In The Presence" will be touched and uplifted. His voice is so beautiful, pure, and if it isn't heartfelt --- he needs to be in Hollywood. In our world today, we need all the "good" we can find. This CD is truly a gift from him to all of us.

5 out of 5 stars In His Presence.......2006-11-03

I loved his rendering of old and new songs. He sings with emotion and motivation. It was like a love-feast to my ears.

5 out of 5 stars Creative arrangements for a versatile voice.......2006-09-20

The musical arrangements on this album are quite different from what one might expect in this genre--contemporary in feeling and very accessible. Two exceptions: Joyful, Joyful...which is straight from Beethoven's 9th Symphony in a stunning arrangement; and Ave Maria in its entirety, i.e., "Ave Maria, Mater Dei..." (Franz Schubert--which contrasts nicely with the Bach/Gounod version featured on Spirit of America). Working with the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and members of Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral in California, Rodriguez presents a heartfelt album with deeply personal liner notes. This is a solo album (with two lovely duets featuring Lea Solonga)--unlike Spirit of America on which he sings with a choir accompaniment--beginning with a haunting a capella verse of Amazing Grace.

This is a great selection for someone who is not familiar with faith music and will open many ears to Rodriguez's work. Get this and go ahead and pre-order his next CD...you won't go wrong.
