Fox's sports department is celebrated (critics would say derided) for the giddy, high-energy attitude it brings to its productions. Aside from commentators who act like they're sitting on whoopee cushions, music plays the biggest role in setting the wired mood for Fox's NFL broadcasts. This set collects some Fox pregame favorites--you know, the kind of stuff that accompanies footage of a big hit or breakaway run. Here, alternative rockers (Blur, Smash Mouth), mix with hip-hoppers (Master P, Snoop Dogg), and electronica aces (Moby, Crystal Method), with jock analysts John Madden and Terry Bradshaw turning up in interludes. For pigskin devotees, Game Time is more fun than a forearm shiver. --Steven Stolder

GET PUMPED!!!!.......2001-01-11
I can't hear this CD without getting thoroughly and completely pumped! Especially good is the "Fox Football Theme" which is played in its entirety. The commentaries by Pat Sumerall, John Madden, Terry Bradshaw, and others which are also included on this CD are especially interesting. Whether you are getting ready for the "big game" or just feel low, listening to this will boost your spirits 1000% It's great!
One Hell of a CD.......2000-04-17
A rock-jock compilation to top all others...rap edge tightens up the tracks. One rollicking good time.
Big Variety of Different Music.......2000-01-17
This cd has got every kind of music that they would play in stadiums or arenas around the country. It has rock, rap, techno, and a lot of mixes of songs. It also features some big hit songs. The reason why I gave it a 4 star rating is because it does have some rap, which I'm not into, but its a great album to get pumped up for a sporting event.
BOOM! Tough actin' Tinactin!.......1999-11-22
I'm into football. I listen to these tracks and I get pumped. They are so perfect to do the Dilger dance to. Hold up... It's the Dilgerenninum.

Still my favorite White Lion album.......2007-08-02
THE BAND: Mike Tramp (vocals), Vito Bratta (guitars), James Lomenzo (bass), Greg D'Angelo (drums & percussion). Formed in New York City by Tramp (having just moved to NYC from Denmark) and Bratto (from Staten Island, NY).
THE DISC: (1989) 11 tracks clocking in at approximately 53 minutes. Included with the disc is a 6-page booklet containing song titles/credits, song lyrics, band photos, and thank you's. This is the band's 3rd studio album. Recorded at Amigo Studios in Los Angeles. Label - Atlantic Records.
COMMENTS: In the mid to late 80's several of rock's biggest bands like Def Leppard, Guns 'N Roses, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden, and Van Halen were stealing the headlines. Grabbing some attention, but not nearly enough, were the other long-haired glam rock bands of the time - Dokken, Mr. Big, Y&T, Enuff Z'Nuff, Bulletboys, LA Guns, and White Lion. In the late 80's I was living just outside Los Angeles - and the California bands simply dominated the big hair scene. I had grown up on Long Island and had all ready moved west by the time White Lion made the scene. Since White Lion did not make a big splash in California (my opinion only)... I sincerely hoped they were having more success in their native northeast. White Lion was all about emotion and melody. Tramp's throaty yet impassioned vocals, and Bratto's amazing guitar-work were always the highlights. Lomenzo in the background on bass and D'Angelo (ex-Anthrax) being the steady back bone - rivaling Sib Hashian (Boston), Hirsch Gardner (New England) or Bobby Rock (Vinny Vincent Invasion) for biggest afro behind the kit. I put Vito Bratta in the same category as John Sykes (Blue Murder, Whitesnake, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Thin Lizzy), Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big, solo), Ritchie Kotzen (Poison, Mr. Big, solo) and Vinnie Vincent (Kiss, V.V.'s Invasion)... simply a wizard on the guitar, but failing to achieve the major success and celebrated status they so justly deserved. After decades of only occasional spins in the CD player, I went back and revisited "Pride" (1987) and "Big Game" with the soul purpose of listening to Bratta's guitar (thank you Murat for the advise). Simply put, Bratta could shred. Sadly (as I've read), due to family obligations and a wrist injury, Bratta is all but out of the music business since the mid-to-late 90's. "Pride" may well be the band's best and most complete/varied work (charting higher at #11 and producing 2 decent hits with "Wait" and "When The Children Cry"), but I still reach for "Big Game" first. To me, "Big Game" was a heavier album featuring crunchier tunes. As for the music on this disc - "Big Game" is full of great tracks, highlighted with 2 minor hits - "Little Fighter" and a remake of Golden Earring's "Radar Love" (dare I say it's as satisfying as the original). Since I lean to the heavier songs, the other gems include "Living On The Edge" (a great tale about a man with a car and only the clothes on his back, no job, looking for a break... riding into the sunset), "Let's Go Crazy" (and outstanding guitar piece - sounding like a fast-paced Van Halen tribute... complete with David Lee Roth-esque howls and whistles), the heaviest song on the album "If My Mind Is Evil" (with a biting story about a man questioning his beliefs and being persuaded by a late night televangelist - one of my favorite tunes in their entire catalog), and the political mid-tempo song about apartheid in Africa, "Cry For Freedom". White Lion was not just another 80's hair band - they were an exciting rock band with talented musicians and intriguing stories to tell. I like "Big Game" as much as "Pride"... and because it rocks harder, I reach for this one first (5 stars).
Really Great Music from the 80s.......2007-03-07
White Lion was a great band and this was one of the best cds they made, enough said. This one is even better that Pride. This is the best White Lion album ever.
Captures the essence of the 80s..........2005-09-08
It was a better era. The hair was big, the music was melodic, the songs had guitar solos, the musicians actually could play, the pop stars wrote some of their songs, Madonna was still hot, supermodels were in, Nintendo was the video game system of choice, athletes were not juiced, gasoline cost under $1.00 a gallon, the Berlin Wall came down, our troops were not being hunted by Iraqi insurgents, I was not $100,000 in debt, etc., etc.
This cd captures the essence of that better time. It is the type of music that you listen to when you are driving in your car, with your windows down, on a warm summer night. All the songs on this album are upbeat, even the ones about broken homes and sunken ships. The general theme for this album is that people must rise up and overcome obstacles--such as potential breakups, political resistance, lost loves, long workdays, and tough family circumstances. Whatever life throws at us, we can handle, White Lion seems to be saying.
Oh, and the music is unbelievable. As everyone else has noted, Vito Bratta is a killer guitar player. I mean, that guy just rips. I have no idea how he is able to pull off some of those natural harmonics so cleanly. All of his guitar solos are technically amazing, and his rhythm playing is stellar as well. Based on his appearance and his virtuosity, there is little doubt that he dropped out of school at a young age and did nothing but practice trills, hammer-ons, bends and slides for fifteen hours a day. We the listeners are the beneficiaries of his hard work, as his playing on this album is a joy to hear.
Other posters have ripped vocalist Mike Tramp. Well, I will defend him. I think he does a great job with most of the songs, and he has a distinct voice that is perfect for pop metal. As for the songs on the album, they are almost uniformly good if not great, although 1-2 songs on the album could arguably be labeled as "filler." Out of all the songs on the album, my three favorites are: "Goin' Home Tonight," "Little Fighter" and "Don't Say it's Over."
Buy this album. If you lived in the 80s, this album should bring you back to that better time. If you were deprived of the 80s experience, first of all I feel sorry for you, but you should buy this album anyway. You just don't hear guitar playing this good on the radio anymore, and the songs should give you a feel for the zeitgeist of the 80s, a much better time that I certainly miss now.
Vito!.......2005-07-03
The reviewers below are absolutely correct about Vito Bratta. Although one of the ugliest guitarists who ever has lived, he just wipes out any other pseudo-shredder living today. Listen to those artificial harmonics, oh my God! He is just an incomparable shredder. Definitely the most underrated guitarist of the 80's and perhaps of all time.
Internet searches suggest that Vito has dropped off the face of the earth. Vito, please come back! For the love of God, today's poseurs pale in comparison to your chops. Come back and rejoin us!
Maybe when you return you could join Velvet Revolver. Who knows?
Underated guitar player!!!.......2005-05-21
I agree with Jazzcat "Stef" Vito was one of the greatest guitaritst of the 80's unfortunately we don't hear muscians like that anymore. I listen and bougth the CD's because of Vito's awesome guitar playing, no he wasn't the fastest or most glamorous guitarist, but I can tell when I hear a great rock solid guitarist (I'm a MI graduate) so I know a thing or two about playing the guitar and music in general. You can take just about any muscian from the 80's and will shred all over any "Players of todays bands" not a single player stands out today nobody has pushed the guitar to another lever or any other isntrument for that matter. The great drummers, bassist, guitarists of the 80's are gone, I know use to be one of them. This is a great album I would recomment buying.

"You want bowel-churning mega-bass that shakes the room, demolishes the ceiling, and freaks out the cat?" ask the compilers of this grade-A U.K. techno disc. The curious should answer with an unequivocal, "Hell, yes." Sonic slabs from Orbital, the Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Prodigy, Leftfield and the Future Sound of London, among others, add up to a definitive appetizer tray of drum & bass flavors. --Jeff Bateman
Customer Reviews:
Great game, even better soundtrack!.......2007-01-03
I will admit, after purchasing this game, I found myself sitting in front of my Playstation hearing 3,2,1, GO! and then placing the controller on the ground in front of me listening to the great music coming from my 13" TV. After a while, the game simply became a visual to a near perfect soundtrack. If you enjoy heart racing, adrenaline pumping electronica then this is the soundtrack for you. Highly recommended however Coffee + This Album may = excessive speed on the road. Buy at your own risk :)
Required listening for EDM fans.......2005-05-12
If you are into electronic dance music this CD not just a good album, but required listening. Actually it's great if you are just starting into the genre and want to hear the music that catapulted it. Based on a video game soundtrack Wipeout XL takes what the Playstation game (Wipeout 2) did with the music genre and moved it another level. The Wipeout 2 games was heralded as not only an excellent arcade racing game, but a game that had one of the coolest soundtracks ever. This is because the game designers decided to get a broad range of artists together on their game project. The result was a video game with a soundtrack that defined electronic music in the 90's.
What Wipeout XL did was take that style of music and put it on a CD so people can just pop it in and jam without having to either rip the tracks off the game or play the game cd on a stereo system. There are track differences between the two. For one the games staff writer, Cold Fusion, doesn't have any tracks on it so that takes out two songs. From there a couple other songs were replaced for whatever reasons (personally I think Future Sound of London's Herd Killing is just too dissonant for anything but a title scroll for the game). But don't fret, because what they replaced them with is definitely worth your while.
Some of the new tracks on this CD are exclusive to this CD only. That's right. Exclusive mixes. I don't mean crappy freak mixes that don't deserve proliferation I mean some killer mixes that you MUST have in your collection. Here's my opinion on some tracks:
ATOM BOMB and V-SIX by Fluke is not the regular version. It's one of those exclusive versions I was talking about. And this is the coolest mix of Atom Bomb I have ever heard (and I heard lots). Totally new beat and feel, but definitely the same song. V-Six is an exlusive song you won't find anywhere but here. Not even remixes. It's aggressive and driven like a lot of his dancier tracks. The CD is worth getting for these two tracks alone.
LOOPS OF FURY and LEAVE HOME (Underworld Mix) By Chemical Brothers, while not exclusive mixes, they are songs you won't find on any of their albums. They were released on singles only. Either way Loops of Fury to me is the ultimate big beat song. Powerful drums on top of a driving bassline with a mess of fun noises dancing around the groove. Leave Home is just powerful, but more minimalist. Still great on the dance floor. This CD is worth it for these two tracks alone (Did I just repeat myself? See where I'm getting at?).
2097 by Source Direct can only be found on the Wipeout CD's (game and XL CD). At least it's not on any of their albums. It's some crazy drum and bass that you might not be able to dance to, but it sure is interesting listening to what do they the instruments.
Other good tracks (not exclusive) are Orbital's P.E.T.R.O.L., Future Sound of London's WE HAVE EXPLOSIVE (very popular), and the lyricless FIRESTARTER by The Prodigy. TIN THERE and MUSIQUE are a little repetitive but manageable. Photek is very much like Source Direct, only not as interesting in their drum-&-bassiness.
If you are just getting into modern electronic music then this would be a perfect primer for you. If you have been into it for a while there are some tracks here worth getting that are either not that easy to find or you just won't find elsewhere. Either way this is an excellent CD that's worthy to be in your collection.
Not as good as the original.......2003-11-07
Basicaly the only decent stuff I see here are tracks 1,4,7 and 8. Seven is the coolest theme ever - the one from the WipeoutXL game intro video(the whole reason I got this CD) and the first track is also mixed in there somewhere. Number 4 is just a more or less decent techno track, while 8 is Prodigy's "Firestarter" without the vocals. Track 2 was a dissapointing dulled-down version of Fluke's "Atom Bomb"(I'd give the CD 4 stars if they just put the excellent original one). So there you have it, unless you desperatly want the WipeoutXL intro flick music which wasn't included on the game CD - don't bother. Better get the WipeoutXL game itself - it's out for PSX and PC and has the great game and music all in one(skip the first data track). You can also play the PSX version with an emulator and get the same resolution. But the PC version is the best.
State-of-the-art electronica.......2003-06-10
To call this a "techno" CD is misleading. Sure there's some of that, but this is really a genuine electronica CD with the likes of Photek, Source Direct, et al making an appearance with some, shall we say, unique tracks.
Electronica today (2003) isn't quite what it used to be back when it was new and clearly still experimental and at the top of its form. This 78:18 CD offers up some classic tracks that will last forever. I have a lot of CDs from various electronica artists that have songs on this compilation (Fluke, FSOL, Orbital, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy) and others that don't (namely Crystal Method) and they're all great but none quite capture the diverse essence of what electronica can encompass. This is that CD!
The version of Atom Bomb on here is a cleaned-up AND remixed version of the original on Fluke's own Risotto CD. None of the other reviews really pointed that out.
Ha ha ha ha... WIPEOUT!.......2002-07-25
When I bought this however many years ago, nobody bothered to point out to me that it was the soundtrack to a game. But perhaps that's the greatest compliment anybody could give it--that the music stands on its own without any hard-sell.
Maybe you bought 'Exit Planet Dust' but if you missed out on the Chemical Brothers' (in my opinion) best single "Loops of Fury", you could atone buy picking up this disc. The instrumental version of "Firestarter" is better than the original, and "PETROL" is not representative of the Orbital album ('In Sides') it comes from, but still kicks.
The whole 'Electronica' wave was over-done and rightfully put in its proper place on the musical scheme of things, but in retrospect, there were some singles you had to own, and this is a superb compilation of them.
Made to be booming out of your convertible, even if it's a k-car.

Couldn't bear listening to it!.......2003-11-18
I listened to this CD one time, and after flipping through the tracks to see if there was something good, I painfully turned my cd player off and never listened to it again. This CD does no justice to the wonderful music composed by nobou umaetsu for the final fantasy series. You're better off listening to MIDIs of the music from the games than buying this CD. The vocals seemed to be very off, the instruments didn't sound real, and it sounded like someone made this cd in a couple of hours. I don't reccomend this CD to anyone unless you need a new frisbee!
Not horrible, but I've heard better.......2003-06-23
This CD isn't exactly the worst out there, but it has some points where it comes pretty close. Track one is good once you get used to it. At first it sounds sucky, but it gets better. The second one is about the same as the second half of the first one but is done with different instruments. The third one is absolutely horrible! Skip it at all costs! The Prelude could be better, mostly longer and with the crystal-like sound of FFVII and FFIV instead of the cheap piano keyboard. The opening theme could be done much better. Preferably like it was done in FF Generation S. It is way too short and doesn't have the punch like the other one. Cosmo Canyon was done pretty well, if not a little fast for the original pace. If they had slowed the tempo down a bit it would've been perfect. I personally didn't have any problems with the Shinra March, and it does have a catchy tune. The eighth one [was unacceptable]!!! Once again I refer to the FF Generation S. That was done 1000 percent better and didn't use cheap electronic synth vocals. The vocals aren't even understandable. The ninth track is pretty much the same as the second one of FF Generation S. The rest of the tracks I pretty much skip because they aren't worth the time. The choice of instruments is extremely cheap and the sound is unpleasent. In reality, I recommend FF Generation S over this one, but this one is good to listen to from time to time just as long as you are willing to deal with some of the garbage.
A great CD.......2003-03-28
This is a very good listen. The version of Liberi Fatali is significantly different from the one in the game, but it's still very fascinating. Many of the songs have been altered, but still are fun to listen to. A great CD, especially for the price!
The name "final fantasy" doesnt deserve to be put on this.......2002-03-21
...Yes. Why are the words "final fantasy" put on this? This Cd Absolutely stinks. the 1st track is okay, which is the only thing good. The Song "liberti Fatalli" STINKS. i expected it to sound like the Ost's version, but i was obviously WRONG! (There is definitely something else to the song htan Fa-su {which is reapeated over and over} ) SO DONT BUY IT! IT URTS YR EARS!!
Its ok.......2001-09-13
I love the Final Fantasy series. And when I bought this I found a simple arangement of music played by an orchestra. I was sumwhat dismayed by this. I wanted direct songs from the game played by the orginial players. But nevertheless you get what you pay for.

Dont wast your time with this junk.......2005-01-10
This CD is BAD! It had NONE of the good songs on it like "Way Away" and "Jerk it out" and stuff. If you liked all the other songs on it. Go and buy it. But I hated all the songs on this CD. The Bonus DVD is the best part. But don't buy it because of that.
Trip-Hop.......2004-12-18
Divided between electronica's flashier artists, SSX 3's soundtrack is as hip and exciting as the game itself, excluding the alternative tracks that are mediocre. The excellent "Poor Leno" makes its umpteenth appearance on a compilation (and its trippy video is on the DVD) and the Chemical Brothers' "Leave Home" was already on the Wipeout XL soundtrack, but the rest of the selections are inspired and stimulating. The Audio Bullys' "We Don't Care" has a hook that won't quit, and K-Os' "Freeze" is both funky and cerebral. The definite highlight is the electro-robotic "Like This," one of the best tracks ever from the turntable crew the X-Ecutioners. As far as remixes, Jason Nevins does his usual mainstream pumping up for "Rock Star," while Paul Oakenfold and Junior Sanchez add just enough dancefloor thump to the Faint and Placebo. The DVD doesn't offer much for those only interested in the music, but the game footage is exhilarating. The only disappointments are Fatboy Slim's pale imitation of himself and a poster that leaves no room for informative liner notes.
...if this is the next generation of music, you don't see me complaining.
Awesome Addition!.......2003-12-06
I was introduced to SSX Tricky at a Quake 3 tournament. I've been hooked ever since. The music goes a long way to adding to the enjoyment. SSX 3 takes it all up a level. The soundtrack is excellent! I admit I'd never heard of most of these groups before listening to this soundtrack. However, I loved it so much that I've already purchased MXPX and N.E.R.D. CDs. If you enjoyed the music of SSX Tricky you will not be disappointed by SSX 3! I would have given this a 4 1/2 stars if the system would let me. My only detractors are Fatboy Slim and Audio Bullys, whose selections are very tedious. One other item is that, again the entire soundtrack from the game didn't make it to the CD.
Real Good Music!.......2003-10-04
I found "Music From SSX Tricky" before I ever played or even heard of the game. I have 20 bucks to blow at Future Shop and after an hour I just grabbed this off the shelf, looked at the track listing, and bought it. Who can go wrong with MixMaster Mike?
As soon as I listened to it I was shocked. This music was so good! I had not known what I was getting myself into but I now liked it. It introduced me to new artists, and especially, the game (which, sadly, had even more great music that the cd didn't contain [Shake Wha' Yo Mamma Gave Ya!])
Now SSX3 is being released in October and before they release the game, they bring us yet another 12 track SSX cd. I right away asked for it for my birthday. I wasn't disappointed (well, maybe with the length of these songs; I enjoyed the long techno/house music that SSX Tricky delivered, and these songs are, on average, only about 3 minutes long)
This SSX cd is more hip-hop than the last. More MCs (K-os, Swollen Members) and even more great music from artists like Fatboy Slim and Audio Bullys!
If you enjoyed SSX Tricky's awesome music, you can't go wrong with SSX 3: The Soundtrack
