Great collection of 19th/20th Century music.......2003-08-12

This is a great collection of works from 19th and 20th century women composers. Keep in mind, it is only a small sample of what's available, but an excellent place to start. It is also a good choice if you are a teacher wanting to introduce women composers to your class and do not want to invest in dozens of CDs. There are no large-scale works on this CD, so it is ideal as a sampler (or for use with kids in a classroom setting). I highly recommend this CD.

It's about Time!.......2001-12-07

A top-notch sampling of mainly 20th-century music by women composers, including Lili Boulanger and Pulitzer Prize-winners Ellen Taaffe Zwilich and Shulamit Ran, this cd proves that the music has been excellent all along. What we have needed are good recordings of superior performances. The samples often are brief--e.g., a single movement from Clarke's cello sonata--yet do provide jumping off points for more concentrated pursuit of favorite composers. Those uninitiated in women's works will become familiar here with some of the best of the last 150 years: Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Thea Musgrave, and on and on. I hope every author of a text on music since 1840 will come to know and adore this cd, then include the music in their discussions of music history. It's about time!

Disco bastante bueno.......2006-07-17

Aunque, solo tengo dos discos de Mägo de oz, tengo que admitir que disfruto más este disco que el anterior(Finisterra). La calidad del audio es excelente, pero las letras no son del agrado de todos, a mi si me gustan. Puedo darme la libertad de recomendar este disco, se que lo van a disfrutar por su gran calidad. Mientras tanto comprare los otros discos y vere si cambio mi opinión.

Para los que no han tenido la oportunidad de ver a Mago de Oz en vivo, les comento que son la mejor banda del mundo en directo, cada canción parece que estuviera sonando en el cd, pero en realidad son ellos tocando en directo.
Creo que Jose es la mejor voz que yo haya podido escuchar jamas, podria ser comparado con Timmo Koltipelto (stratovarius).
Y simplemente gracias Txus por existir y crear canciones que tocan el alma y duermen nuestros sentidos......

Primeramente..por que solo 3 estrellas? debo mencionar que tengo todos los discos de mago... y las 3 estrellas son por la calidad de sus anteriores discos, se que ya no son lo mismo de antes, ahora estan mas tirados a la autosuperacion y obviamente a cuidar la tierra(GAIA..) y blabla burreras ecologistas... si podes olvidar eso...y olvidarte de los anteriores discos de mago...posiblemente vas a disfrutar este disco, y si es tu primer disco de mago te va a gustar!! pero NO lo recomiendo si recien estas comenzando a conocer esta banda, recomiendo "La leyenda de la mancha" y un muy buen disco doble en VIVO "Folktergeist" ... ahora voy directo al grano, calificar cada cancion sobre 10:

No hagan caso a los review negativos paresen ser gente sin intuision a la musica si ere fan del rock espanol o heavy metal te lo recomindo tremendas letras fuertes pero realistas si eres de mente abierta. Un album muy completo definitivamente el mejor de su carrera.

Mago de OZ - Revitalizing Spanish Rock.......2006-09-15

Gaia II is a double album with about 14 full tracks. The style and content of this album is comparable to Demons & Wizards, in which many instruments are used to enhance the musical content. 11 out of the 16 full tracks carry a heavy rythm with double bass drums and smart melodic riffs. Additionally, the piano, flutes and violins are often used as Iron Maiden uses their double lead guitars, which I think is a very innovative way of adding richness to the already great sound.
The three slow songs are very enjoyable and I wouldn't be surprised to hear them on your local spanish rock friendly station. The 3 slows songs in this album carry a medieval/folk sounds which reminded me of popular Irish folk songs - only in Spanish.
In this concept album most songs are about religious control and human expression. Although I haven't had a chance to read the story that this book includes, I found the song lyrics nicely written and possessing the right amount of passion and eloquence that this topic deserves.
If you love Old Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, Black Majesty, Hammerfall - you will not be dissapointed.

Grandioso!!! Es lo que puedo decir acerca de este album doble. A decir verdad cuando lo tuve en mis manos y le heche un primer vistazo a las canciones no me llamaron mucho la atencion ya que El Mago nos traia acostumbrado a un tipo de melodia muy diferente a la que se expone en este album.

Sin embargo, al escucharlo por 2da vez, 3ra, 4ta, 5ta... realmente te das cuenta de que hay MAGO PARA RATO!!! Los arreglos musicales, las letras, lo que transmite cada cancion, la dureza con que en este disco El Mago de Oz expone cada una de sus liricas... todo esto hace de este disco "Gaia II" sea un excelente album que todo seguidor del Spanish Metal debe tener!!!

A must for Queen fans!.......2004-04-23

Valensia is very much influenced by Queen and it shows throughout this album. Such awsome Queenlike harmonies and he's even captured the Brian May guitar sound. Of corse Valensia isn't Queen's equal and I doubt Valensia would want to be considered that way, George Michael, Robbie Williams, The Darknes, or any of those artists who are often compaired to Queen don't hold a candle to Valensia. All you need to do is listen to 'Phantom of the Opera' to know what I mean.

The greatest artist of the 90's and 2000's.......2002-01-07

On Valensia's first album some songs were brand new while some had been written years earlier. His fourth full-length album is made the same way, and that's why Valensia called it Gaia II. However, the sound of this album is quite different. That's because Valensia produced it himself, without the help of Pim Koopman. Valensia's voice sounds even more beautiful than on the earlier albums, and his guitar playing has developed a lot. All the songs are excellent. My favorites are probably the first two songs: "Mayke&Veronique" and the reggae-flavored "Bruxelles". "Phantom of the Opera" is a bit like "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, and "Celeste" was inspired by The Police. The title of "Electric Lady House" is of course from the Jimi Hendrix classic "Electric Lady Land" but the song sounds a bit like Sparks. For some reason the song "Einstein" was only a Japanese bonus track. This is strange because it's one of the best songs on the album and features some of the best lyrics Valensia has written. There's one thing that makes Gaia II different from Valensia's earlier albums: there isn't a waltz as a follow-up to Gaia, Kosmos and Millennium. This is a wonderful album from the greatest and most underrated artist of the 90's and 2000's.
