Great Title But Not Great Enough.......2005-01-06
Boy, this sounds like a smoking album from the title. The cover gives a good feel to portray the theme as well. A lot of people that are Catamenia fans are always asking why this band doesn't get any recognition. Well, as a fan who has tried very hard to get into this band I will answer that question. Plain and simple they are not as good as the other bands in thier field. Often their songs are too heavy for their own good without melodies to balance them out and the vocalist is second rate. He strains way too hard and is annoying.
Catamenia's sytle falls somewhere in the general range of other harsh vocal bands such as Skyfire, COB, Wintersun, Tartaros, older Dark Tranquility, Graveworm, Demonoid and Axamenta. Unfortunately, every one of those bands mentioned is between 2 and 10 times better than them.
Also, the following album after EWP is Eskata which is actually even worse than EWP. Definitely stay away from it.
I could maybe stretch to 1.5 or even 2 stars but any more than that would really be pushing it. I think the band started on the right trail with their debut release Halls Of Frozen North but then headed South from there.
Excellent.......2001-11-29
I don't understand why Catamenia hasn't attracted more attention, or why you can only buy this album and not the others on Amazon. Their sound is modern with clicky kick drums and well fleshed-out guitars, and the recording quality on all their albums is excellent - far better than most Black Metal bands. The vocals are reminiscent of Dissection, and the rest of the music is not quite as fast paced as Emperor - but think speed picking nonetheless. If you have the opportunity, try to pick up some songs from the album Halls of Frozen North - Icy Tears of Eternity in particular is, IMO, their best song. Give Catamenia a try; if you're into the real Black Metal bands like Dissection, Emperor, At The Gates, and such, and want something in that vein - then chances are you will like them.

secretive genius.......2004-11-05
This album exercises true legiance to black metal. If you are not a fan of this musical persuasion, you will love this album given your feeble ears can withstand the "harsh" vocals, and focus on the musical structure. Indeed an impressive composition.
