The Thomas Crown Affair is a caper story with a new (well, retread) twist: Pierce Brosnan plays a guy who can afford virtually anything, so he attempts to get something he can't, a Monet. It's a movie fitting of a polished, well-produced soundtrack, which is exactly what this disc delivers. Sting's previously unreleased version of the famous theme song "Windmills of Your Mind" lacks the suave psychedelic flair of Noel Harrison's original version (he won an Oscar for the song on the original Thomas Crown soundtrack), but should please his fans. Nina Simone's classic "Sinnerman" is a welcome contribution, and Wasis Diop's "Caban La Ka Kratchie" is a steamy world fusion tune. Bill Conti's score--varying from pulsating piano compositions to smooth jazz--rounds out the rest of this short soundtrack. For most, the real attraction here is the Sting cut. --Jason Verlinde

The Sinnerman or the whole affair?.......2007-05-20
I wanted to get The Thomas Crown Affair Soundtrack for one reason only: The Sinnerman by Nina Simone, because I was not able to find this particular version anywhere else. And yet this song...it is simply great. When I first heard it, I could feel shivers down my spine, and have felt the same ever since. But to be completely honest, I do like the rest of the CD. Unfortunately, there is not much left. The soundtrack is rather short (31' approximately), and...well...jazzy, which is not exactly my cup of tea, but still, it was worth getting it. It is a nice, relaxing listening. Apart from The Sinnerman, of course. That one makes me feel exhilirated and strong and...well, happy.
Excellent CD representing most of the movie's music.......2007-03-11
This is a great CD containing most of the melodies and songs from the movie except for the Latin dance during the black and white party. I especially enjoyed Sting's Windmills Of Your Mind which is not released on any other CD (I believe) and Nina Simone's "clapping" song. One of the rare soundtracks that has all great songs and melodies in one!
Thomas Crown Affair Soundtract.......2007-01-20
The CD was brand new, and I love the songs, it came in the mail extremley fast, even though it was a week before Christmas.
Just as Smooth as the Movie.......2006-09-25
This is a fantastic score and I highly recommend it. While Sting does not do the best ever recording of "Windmills of Your Mind," it's still very good, relaxing, and sets up the rest of the CD well.
Simone's "Sinnerman" is either something you do or do not like. Personally the vocals get to be repetitive and irritating after a while, but the piano and hand-clapping are definitely something to be heard, especially since they bring back the enjoyed memory of Brosnan and the other men clad in their "business suits and bowler cap" shuffle game for the film's final climax. I tend to skip the vocals, but still listen to the track.
"Everything is Never Quite Enough" is one of my favorite songs on this CD, even though there are so many different languages in the lyrics. The sounds and beat are incredible, stirring all the right emotions, while the lyrics are sultry and perfectly placed together. As said before, there are different languages sung in the song (the woman sings English, but the male sings French, his native African dialect, and some various others), but they all compliment each other and it is not at all annoying. It is excellent.
"Kaban a la Kratchie" is another track that you like or you don't...it depends on one's mood. Overall it is enjoyable and nostalgic of the Caribbean and the stunning photography of the scenes filmed in the tropics, but you need to be in a light-hearted mood and "enjoying the day" attitude to fully appreciate the song.
The rest of the songs are all Bill Conti's music and his score - no lyrics. The basic theme is reheard in the music, but the pace and background instruments are certainly different so you can listen to the entire CD without getting bored and can feel your pulse quicken with the music. The score certainly brings back the movie and the entire attitude of sophistication, intelligence, and smoothness. A great CD to listen to while driving, working, reading, basic background music, or for just plain listening to.
I highly recommend it and you will most certainly not have any buyer's remorse.
Thomas Crown Affair music from the movie.......2006-09-05
I found the music very uplifting and fun to listen to and it reminds me of the movie. I can listen during exercise and get my heart going for the day. The artists on the CD are great and I have searched for more CD's related.Sinnerman is one of my favorite songs/soundtrack.

Five years after Blue Country Heart, Stars in My Crown finds Jorma Kaukonen continuing and expanding on that Grammy-nominated work. It's again a relaxed setting, but the stylistic range has taken on a compelling diversity. Not generally a prolific writer, Kaukonen has written a welcome five of the disc's fourteen numbers this time out. They range from the perfect and prayerful opener "Overture: Heart Temporary," with its 12-piece string section holding his acoustic guitar and vocal aloft, to the lilting instrumental "A Life Well Lived." Kaukonen's choice of covers has left him room to make them his own, while also adding to the portrait of who he is as an artist, and how he got there. It would be right to expect a Rev. Gary Davis song on this album, and there are two of them, but it's his take on Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around" that amazes. It's an audacious choice for reinterpretation in which he both honors the original and finds a natural ease for his own voice. Throughout the entire set, the small and subtly varying ensemble plays with elegant style, peppered with occasional playful hijinks. --David Greenberger
Album Description
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-enshrined guitarist and founder of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna returns with a stunning acoustic masterpiece, his first new recording since 2002's Grammy-nominated Blue Country Heart.
Continuing the journey through American roots music he started in the early 1960's, Jorma cooks up a tasty collection of down-home blues, bluegrass, folk, country gospel and reggae. Stars In My Crown was recorded in Nashville and is rooted in classic Americana, flavored with a laid-back bluesy feel.
With fresh takes on soul-searching spirituals and many original compositions, the new record is vastly more personal than previous recordings, as evidenced by the self-penned "Heart Temporary," "A Life Well Lived," and "Living In The Moment." The album reveals Kaukonen's increasingly reflective outlook as the success of his Fur Peace Guitar Ranch and his full and varied life of music and family leads him to ask on the liner notes "Who would have thought that life would be this good?"
Jorma's love for Lightnin' Hopkins manifests in "Come Back Baby," and his continued channeling of Reverend Gary Davis is heard in "There's A Table Sitting In Heaven." A satisfying jewel is Jorma's cover of the classic reggae song "The Rivers Of Babylon." After Jerry Garcia gave him his first reggae album - the soundtrack to the movie The Harder They Come - Kaukonen always wanted to record the tune. "This is crucial reggae for sure," says Jorma.
Backing Kaukonen are the outstanding talents of Barry Mitterhoff (Hot Tuna), Rob Ickes (Blue Highway), Reese Wynans (Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble), Tim Stafford (Blue Highway, Alison Krauss), Greg Leisz (Dave Alvin) and Sally Van Meter (Tony Furtado Band). Produced by Byron House (Sam Bush Band), Stars in My Crown is the album that fans and critics have been anxiously awaiting.
Customer Reviews:
Good Jorma Album!.......2007-06-22
As always, Jorma pulls out some great guitar work for his fans, and this one is no exception. I'm a fan, and a friend, and I'll probably be a bit biased, but I also feel free to tell it like it is. My favorite is Blue Country Heart and Land of Heroes, and now I have a third favorite "recent" Jorma solo album with Stars in My Crown. For anyone who thinks this is a religious conversion release, they just don't understand what they are talking about. Jorma has always played "gospel" songs in his releases because of his undying devotion to the music of the Rev Gary Davis. Its part of his roots as a musician. His religious epiphany of late was in his Jewish roots, not Christianity, lest anyone think this is Jorma's version of Bob Dylan's Saved album. Great job Jorma, and I hope you record more for us to listen to and aspire to play on our own guitars, even if we try it with flat picks. This is a must-have for any serious Jorma fan and student of fingerstyle guitar, country blues and American roots music.
Great pickin, but overbearing religiosity.......2007-06-15
Great fingerpicking, as is to be expected from Jorma. Unfortunately, he's found God in a big way and feels compelled to beat the listener over the head with the "good news." Ugh....
if you're not a Christian it won't be for you.......2007-06-03
it was disheartening to hear messages of exclusion and righteousness--great gospel music brings all people in as it embraces the human condition and our yearning to become better people. In this CD unfortunately one must believe that Jesus is the only way to have a spiritual life.
A Class Act.......2007-06-03
In a world of much musical GARBAGE, Stars In My Crown is a well written, well composed,CLASS ACT. Jormas' talents have gotten better with age, and although some may resent the Christian theme in a few of the cuts, the well thought out lyrics have to be acknowledged. The first song, "Heart Temporary" will bring a tear to the most seasoned sailor. As an old hippie, I'm glad Jorma brought the love of the sixties back to my heart.
Pure listening joy.......2007-05-09
Jorma's guitar stirs so many memories of yesteryear. His music is uplifting and hopeful. He plays the guitar with such love and passion as to soothe and bring cheer at the same time. A must own for all music lovers.

At The Movies by Andre Rieu.......2007-05-20
Andre Rieu brings a warmth and pop-like aire to his music. Here he plays popular music with a classical orchestra and adds his special ingredients to it ie:humor (musical jokes for the serious listener),fun,light-heartedness.It's a band of very talented musicians having alot of fun as is evident in the playing and especially if you've seen them in concert.I can "hear" the smiles on their not serious faces by their style of playing...less staccato and with more feeling.Andre and company swing and dance through every track climaxing on Ravel's Bolero from the movie "10".
very beautiful.......2007-01-09
This cd is very beautiful. It captures the songs wonderfully. The orchestra does a fine job.
Refreshing Music.......2006-11-03
Andre Rieu presents wonderful songs in a very inspirational way. They are to be enjoyed as "dinner music" or just for times when the TV is off and you need some "quiet time". It is a great grouping of melodies.
from texas--AND FROM A MUSIC LOVER.......2006-08-30
ANDRE RIEU TAKES US ON A WONDERFUL TRIP BACK IN TIME TO THE MOVIES YOU CAN=T FORGET AND THE MUSIC THAT MADE THEM CLASSICS. DO BUY IT. IT IS A TREASURE...
Andre Rieu - Music for the masses.......2006-08-10
Sometimes you just want enjoyable music as a backdrop to the job at hand. I turn to Andre to get me through these events. Probably not a glowing endorsement, but if you know of Mr. Rieu's feelings about music, he would just smile and nod his head. This is music to just enjoy for the sake of music - and that is a good thing.

Another turning point.......2007-05-29
Another of the albums that became a turning point in my life. The other reviews state everything about the album I could say. Let me just second the reviewer Pearl Drummer and say that Jack Casady is absolutely the BEST BASSIST ever, before or since (and completely underrated). His playing on the title track is so dense and complex that I never tire of hearing it. I wish I knew enough about engineering to separate it out so I could listen to it alone.
My favourite Airplane album.......2007-04-19
After the more experimental and overtly psychedelic After Bathing at Baxter's Crown of Creation marks a return to the shorter songs and more "commercial" (remember, everything is relative) sound of Surrealistic Pillow. It is my favourite Airplane record.
This LP is a perfect mix of eccentric slower-paced songs (Lather, Triad), plaintive Marty Balin (In Time, Shared a Little Joke), inspired Kaukonen (Star Track) and classic Airplane (Crown of Creation, Pooneil Corners). The only throwaway is the irritating Chushingura. And it is only1:16 in length. The remixed sound is a revelation. The newfound clarity and crispness really does enable us to fully appreciate the individual musical talents of the band. The bonus tracks on this re-release are eminently forgettable. No, they are more than that - they are positively annoying! However, on the basis of the songs from the original LP this is a five star effort.
I Don't Really See-Why Can't We Go On As Free?.......2007-01-15
Yes. I saw the review that Guido wrote and, needless to say, I was metamortified! Let me say people, it is very difficult having a guide that is a party animal. When we did talk, he admitted that he was very drunk at the time and that since my reviews had achieved a certain fame, he felt very left out. He apologized (which was feigned), promised never to do it again (an excuse designed to make me leave), and offered vast amounts of help in the future (never once moving from his comfortable barstool). I suggested counseling for him. He was not happy with that. But since I could do no more, I just let things be. Eventually I learned from my other guides that he blames me totally for ALL of his problems! We are talking about a serious case of denial here people! However, I have decided to let his review stand and be a testimony to my good heart and fair-minded forgiveness. The faithful will certainly appreciate and be awed by my irreverent behavior and follow all my reviews forthwith. Yes. And I have learned to lock my laptop when I'm away!
But, let's get to this fine psychedelic classic that beloved Airplane offered many Seer moons ago.
Well- it certainly seems like the Airplane wanted to make a huge IMPACT on us with this album. Why else put them in the atom bomb? (By and by-one of Metamorpho's favorite covers of all time!). But it seems that-with "Crown of Creation" they reeled in more control after the uncontrollable "Baxters". However, they moved the creativity forward and, in this, achieved a great mix of songs. And what is so moving in that is the fact that each composition is a totally unique entity. Never one sounding the same as another-they achieved artistic integrity. And that is due to the immense talent of all the individuals.
We begin with "Lather"- Grace Slick's ode to getting older. Not a rocker-it moves on insistently with a lullaby. How appropriate! But what totally makes this song are the "extras". The little effects they throw in to make the song so rich. The typewriter in the background; the cannon shot from a tank; the seagulls circling on a beach, the sound of Lather's hand; Jorma's "child crying", and Hari Kari as a game to play. This song is so classic and satisfying that they needn't have done more. But they did.
"In Time" is a psychedelic sexual fantasy. And Kantner does a good job on this. But here, and elsewhere, begins Grace's extended background vocal "glue" that binds the whole thing together. She is most noted for the Marty and Grace yin and yang, push and pull, of vocals. And, herein, lies alot of the reason that their sound was most alluring.
Ah. Then they do David Crosby's amazing "Triad". Grace's "come to me" vocals are exactly right for the message. Crosby, more or less, got kicked out of The Byrds for this. In Airplane's hands, they "fly" with it. Rebels will try "something new-if you're crazy too". And they do it so well.
Jorma's writing shines on "Star Track". And his lead is amazing. Ultimately, it is about not taking the world so seriously. "Push the world on by with your hand", or else you'll be like a rat in a cage-running to please the "establishment" and ruining yourself in the process. We then get to Marty's excellent "Share a Little Joke". This is a favorite of Metamorpho's. It is the exhubance of moving towards happiness. "The world around you, never catches up with you". But the joke is one from within. Pay close attention to Marty's vocals, especially the rise to the break-then the lead-and the drum beat back to the vocals again. Intense and wonderful, it provides the exclamation point to the song. (!!!!!!!!)
After Spencer's psychedelic aural auditory assault of "Chushingura" we then settle back to the tunes. And, just as a note here. In many groups of the time, I think it unusual that the drummer would have been given his own time to create. But, with the Airplane, they were willing to try it and with sometimes, amazing effect. That's creativity folks!
"If You Feel" is a Marty excursion of sorts. Again, it is about the freedom to do as you feel. Whatever brings you joy. But to overanalyze it is a mistake. The words don't have to make sense if the feeling is what you're after-and this holds true for this song.
"Crown of Creation" is the cornerstone and namesake of this album, and in it,makes a clear cut line into the generation gap. It is not one of my favorites-but one of Airplane's essential tunes for their legacy. But, interestingly enough, we become exposed to their concept of "change" in this song and how it "changes" with outlook and perspective. (I will get into this with Grace's "Greasy Heart). But, for now, it relates that if their is no change-within yourself-you will become a "fossil of our time". Meaning the older generation. Life is change. How very true.
"Ice Cream Phoenix" seems like a drug trip and one designed around many questions. But the major one is that if the world is apocalyptic-how we still go on-love-and leave-and not feel sad about it. An ode-again- of moving towards happiness.
Ah. We then get to Slick's tease of "Greasy Heart". A jaunty tune for sure. Nitty and gritty and real life- Grace's lyrics here are out in left field. Mechanical but moving. But now the "don't ever change people" comes into play. Interestingly enough-she says change in "Crown of Creation" but "don't change" here. But, in a strange way-it does make sense. Compared to an older generation one must change-or rather-not to follow in the same footsteps. But here she is saying that once you decide to change, do not decide to change-especially for the ones who are important to you. It is confusing-but perhaps- that when you do change decide not to change back. Now that I've confused you (and myself) in the process, I'll just move along.
In "House at Pooneil Corners" we have the apocalpse Airplane style. Listen to the music. It's disjointed-downright disturbing-set in a meter to grate on you. But, it is totally consistent with the theme. Again, an Airplane genius that shines through.
The extra tracks are interesting. And some from other releases and out-takes. But, the main body of work stands on the sheer, intriguing talent of this band.
In closing- I would be remiss if I didn't mention the incredible contribution of Jack Cassidy. Innovative and fresh bass lines that, when you listen, are all over the fret board. At first you may think his bass riffs make no sense- but they all do! Again- he uses the bass as part AND apart from what is going on elsewhere. And this, people, is years before Chris Squire from Yes. Jack Cassidy created it. Chris Squire ran with it. But that is the chain of influences so prevailent in music. Always happens-always will.
In closing- I did this review because: A) I love the music and B) I wanted to show Guido that there is still a spark of life in this old Seer. Now that it's all over- I may saunter over to The Fishnet to share a beer with that wayward guide. Don't worry-I'll leave early. Metamorpho needs his sleep in order to proffer his well-heralded reflections!
To all- A good night and a great life. Keep moving on!
Your own-----Metamorpho
Doesn't Hold Up In the 2000's.......2006-07-15
I start out by saying I was a huge Jefferson Airplane fan and saw them live twice. One of the better Bay Area's bands, and one of the best live shows ever.
Regretably, this album does not hold up well to modern standards. "Lather" is a wierd drug induced anti-war child becomes man theme without a melody or discernable beat. "Triad" is a nice song, better sampled by the Byrds in one of their outtake CD's currently available.
"If You Feel" is a nice Marty Balin song, which is throwback to the 1st two Jefferson Airplane albums, and a precursor to his excellent singing and songwriting career.
"Greasy Heart" is an excellent example of Grace Slick and Paul Kanter singing duets.
Other than these two tracks, which are five star songs, the album simply doesn't translate well into this milenium.
Thank God for Digital Re-Mastering.......2006-01-23
I was lucky enough to see the Jefferson Airplane at the Filmore East several times (I'm 56) during their heyday. Since I'm an accomplished drummer, I was eager to see/listen to what I thought was one of the best rhythm sections I had ever listened to in populer music. I was never let down. For, even to this day, Jack Casady remains one of the finest electric bass players that ever lived. Period. Just listen to his bass lines on "After Bathing at Baxter's" many inspired tracks. He was doing things with feedback, harmonics and counterpoint that were way ahead of the time. Why do you think Jimi Hendrix wanted him as his bassist? Now listen to "Crown of Creation". Jack's bass lines in "Lather" are magnificent! His tone is so subtle. For me, the absolute essence of the electric bass sound (and remember, this is BEFORE Jaco) is his playing on "Triad". His execution and fingering are perfect. His timing is sooooo in the pocket, and his overall "sound" is distinctive and unusual. But, always clean. Jack Casady spoiled me because as a drummer, I always wanted to gig with bass players that were that fluid and tonal. So, buy this CD and listen to some of the best rock music (60's or otherwise) that you'll ever hear.

Queen's Library.......2007-07-21
I got this for my husband who is a big Queen fan!!! He loved it and so did I....it's remastered so it sounds great and it filled in the missing pieces of our Queen music library!!! Worth every penny!!!!
Great collection, interesting packaging, essential listening........2007-07-16
This is the box set for those ready to dive feet-first into the back-catalog of queen. After many years of being in the mainstream through "Best-of" compilations, this collection offers fans (old and new) something compelling. The packaging is a solid attempt to capture the days of Vynal two-fold packaging and included lyrics. All said, a great value and essential to any classic rock library.
Box Fit For The Kings Of Rock,Queen.......2007-06-28
Some good reasons to get this box set:1)Eight albums from Queen's most popular and fruitful years:Queen(1973),Queen II(1974),Sheer Heart Attack(1974),A Night At The Opera(1975),A Day At the Races(1976),News Of The World(1977),Jazz(1978) and The Game(1980) all in cool, attractive mini-original LP-style jackets 2)Most of the band's biggest and best-loved hits are here, including "We Will Rock You","We Are The Champions","Bohemian Rhapsody","Another One Bites The Dust","Killer Queen","Somebody To Love","You're My Best Friend","Crazy Little Thing Called Love","Bicycle Race" and "Fat Bottomed Girls",plus their most prized classic album tracks like "Keep Yourself Alive","Seven Seas Of Rhye","Stone Cold Crazy","39","Tie Your Mother Down","Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy","Get Down Make Love","Its Late","Dragon Attack" and many more.3)Excellent remastered sound, much better than the individual 1991 Hollywood CDs.Even Queen I and Queen II,which suffered from substandard production, now sound better than ever. 4)No bad bonus tracks with awful "remixes"! 5) No mastering errors like on the separate 1991 ones with the chopped guitar intro to "It's Late",the screwy opening to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and the chopped part 30-seconds into "In The Lap Of The Gods".6)Nice booklet featuring lyrics to every album contained here.and 7)It's a real steal to get all these great Queen albums at the price of $89.99 and under. That may be steep, but considering the artifically high prices of the individual ones at $13.99-16.99,and the fact that this box set has such superior sound quality over the ones still on the shelves(still with those horrid bonus tracks!),its worth every penny!
Queen .......2007-06-24
Great boxed set. Dark Blue velvet box with logo. "nice" Each CD is in an carboard replica jacket of it's album. It would've been a perfect set if the CD's were in an hard case instead of cardboard.
8 CD's and a companion booklet with all the lyrics and some pictures.
If you like Queen's music this is a great collection. I love it.
The Ultimate Highlight of Queen's Reign.......2007-01-20
Any true Queen fan knows that these first eight albums represent the epitome of one of the greatest rock bands of the 1970s. The remastered albums are of excellent sound quality, and the sleeves are cardboard replicas of the original album covers. Queen II, Night at the Opera, Day at the Races, News of the World, and Jazz are accurately reproduced in their original gatefold format. Jazz even includes a miniature reproduction of the original notorious poster of nude female bicycle racers! The accompanying booklet has all the original lyrics, as well as some great photos. All of this is beautifully packaged in a blue velvet covered box. Although not inexpensive, you get a lot for your money, musically and otherwise. For anyone who loves Queen, this set is a must!

Unbelievably good.......2007-07-10
Chock full of reggae rock beats, politically relevant lyrics and memorable refrains my only question is why aren't more people listening to this band? "Camilo" enriches our wordly political perspective, "Mr. Larkin" heightens our personal perspective and "Love at Caesar's" is just plain fun. Listen to it once, listen to it twice, listen to it a thousand times. You'll hear something new every time.
Not quite Dispatch but yes I like it.......2006-11-10
Almost four stars, State Radio has a definitive Dispatch rythm and vibe but it lacks the creative impression that Dispatch listeners fell in love with. A few of the songs are very addicting and you will find yoursef listening to them over and over. Play the whole album through first and then listen to Riddle and Camilo again, you will not be disapointed.
Amazing.......2006-11-03
This was an excellent purchase.
If you like jamming Reggae/ Rock, State Radio is a great uplifting band to listen to. Their songs flow so smoothly. And the deep lyrics are very moving.
try again.......2006-05-31
This is supposed to be the type of music that real music fans listen to? You have got to be kidding me. Dispatch is a good band, but this band has got nothing about them that is good. They really have no originality at all, and most of their songs sound the same. And I am sick of people saying that this is real music, better than the [...] on the radio. It is no better than that, in fact maybe even worse. This is bad music, which nowadays is the alternative to pop music. Try again "true music fans" and show me one of your alternative rock bands that doesn't suck.
so good.......2006-05-11
First, i must say that i am not one who often gives out 5 stars for a cd. The best thing that i can say about state radio is that they deliver an infectious vibe that will leave songs stuck in your head for days and days. Think of this music as the political activism of Rage Against the Machine, the reggae of Bob marley, and the cool music of dispatch. The blending of music yeilds many pleasing songs that are accessable by lovers of all genres.
I have shown this cd to many of my friends, and all of them have loved this cd and bought it withn days. Although Camilo, Mr. Larkin, and The Diner song all stand out for the infectious melodies that they deliver, each track offers something unique and different. The reggae feel to People to People is one to be enjoyed over and over again, and the slow pace of riddle in londontown is special in itself. The flow of this album is one that i cannot begin to describe. There is so mucah raw energy available here. Those that were fans of Dispatch, this is an interesting look at where the band might have ended up if they had continued playing together.
What i would suggest however is that if you are planning on buying the cd, that you buy it on itunes, which gives the buyer 4 bonus tracks, all of which are amazing.

Album Description
This band redefines perceptions of Long Island's music scene with their British influenced contemporary indie rock sound. On their sophomore release, they harness the creativity of 70's album rock, the lush tones of ambient pop, and the subtle passion of groups such as The Smiths from the late '80s. Their music can easily be considered interpretive and progressive, yet it by no means alienates the fan base they've acquired through sharing bills with such acts as Mae, Acceptance, June, The Spill Canvas, The Receiving End Of Sirens, Copeland, and Coheed & Cambria.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic album - Superb live performers.......2007-07-09
I'm lucky enough to live in Austin, TX, aka The Live Music Capital of the World, hence I get to see lots of live musical performances. I saw this band perform recently and was truly impressed. WOW! Fell in love with this band. You must see them if you can, but if not, at least get the cd.
Could be the album of 2006. Maybe........2007-02-14
As Tall As Lions has possibly created the album of 2006 with the best mix of amazing vocals and fluid, beautiful composition. Is it the best album of all time? No, no album truly deserves such a rating nor ever should obtain it.
This is art at its finest. Well orchestrated lyrics and song structure make this selftitled album standout amongst many other bands of the same genre. This album completely caught me by surprise. The only problem is, they may struggle trying to top this when working on their next full-length.
As Tall As Lions - Self Titled.......2006-12-29
Pitting the name of your band against the king of the jungle is daring, an inevitable open door for the reviewers to lambaste you.
Unless it's justified.
But As Tall As Lions, an indie band from Long Island, NY leaves nothing to chance with their second album, which shares the same name as the band.
And after hearing this, in the not so grand scale of today's music, this band should be taller than the majority of the faux lions out there.
Sure, a lot of their songs are built around love--be it lost, found, or never really there to begin with--and the bulk of their lyrics could have come from a melancholy teenager's notebook, and because of that some might pigeonhole them as emo, a distinction which is not only unfair, but nowadays a kiss of death. But nothing ever feels woe is me, even when it is. The melodies are ambient, at times atmospheric, even reminiscent of some Sigur Ros (though with words that you can actually understand). And As Tall As Lions sounds similar enough to Keane to mention it; but they're so much better, their sound deeper, and Daniel Nigro twice the singer.
Above everything the album is honest.
Beyond that it's littered with homerun after homerun. The opening track "Stab City" sets the ebb and flow of what's to follow, from "Song For Luna", a lovely ditty sounding every bit like a soundtrack to any wannabe protagonist who's wandered aimlessly through the mental streets of time gone by, to the closer "Maybe I'm Just Tired", a heartbreaking confessional where Nigro sings, "But I know I'm not good enough for you" like he means it.
From top to bottom there aren't anything even resembling fillers.
And somewhere in the middle of the album, from "Ghosts of York", to "Milk and Honey", to "I'm Kicking Myself" they manage a few masterpieces.
The album is outstanding, easily one of the best of 2006.
And though there aren't any streamers, fireworks, or larger than life billboards to promote its release, make no mistake this is As Tall As Lion's coming out party.

Awesome record.......2006-10-18
I see all the comparisons to Coldplay, but this group's a lot ore similar to The Police then anything COldplay or The Smiths have done. The lead singer's voice is definitely like Sting's, and they even did a Police cover when I saw them live.
Excellent album, guys. Check it out.
Indie gold.......2006-09-17
I agree with the reviewer below, this album is captivating. I got hooked after seeming them on their recent tour with Brazil (another great underrated band). ATAL's sound is very melodic, emotional, and
refined. I agree that this is a less poppier coldplay, a less morose Jeff Buckley. This is a great indie album, by far the best of the year so far in my opinion.

Royal Crown Revue were between releases when the short-lived swing revival turned relative newcomers Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy into household names. Originally released in the preresurgence year 1996, this collection finds Eddie Nichols's charismatic crooning and his band's revved-up revivalism in fine form. RCR favorites like "Hey Pachuco!" and "Zip-Gun Bop," which were both featured on the band's 1992 indie debut, are given the widescreen treatment here by Van Halen producer Ted Templeman. Other highlights include a cover of "Beyond the Sea" and "Barflies at the Beach," a wild remake of Louis Prima's "Sing Sing Sing" where Nichols sings the virtues of Flipper-laden tuna and other natural wonders. (Note: "Barflies" was added for this 1998 reissue.) As fate would have it, the band that launched the whole swing resurgence never really profited from its success. But as Nichols's heroes would say, that's show biz. --Bill Forman
Customer Reviews:
Hard-core revival swing.......2007-07-20
Or swing with a sting, that's how I'd describe the Royal Crown Revue. I'd always thought that Squirrel Nut Zippers started the swing revival til someone set me straight. Royal Crown Revue's "Mugzy" is all on the level of the Zipper's "H#ll." (Sorry, Amazon edits out the epithets)
I imagine this would make a good remake soundtrack for movies based on Raymond Chandler's novels. "Zip Gun Bop" even has the cop siren running in the background at the first. Plus, of course, there's the offer for a man to try on a pair of cement shoes and 'walk on water.'
"The Rise and Fall of the Great Mondello" has the feel of the old daredevil circuses. You can almost see the performer falling...
"Beyond the Sea" just blows poor Bobby Darin out of the water. (Pardon the bad pun!)
"Dating with No Dough" is also one of those upbeat, funny hard-luck stories. You've got to laugh, because most of us have been there.
Really no bad songs here. "Mugzy" is one of those CDs you can put on when you need to get moving or cheer up and count on having something good to hear.
Crime Jazz.......2007-06-05
Established in 1989, Royal Crown Revue launched a swing revival that's still going strong and has spawned a host of imitators, from former Stray Cats singer Brian Setzer to the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. But Royal Crown Revue still rules the roost, with entries such as Walk on Fire (1999) and Greetings from Hollywood (2004). Whether you call it the bookish-sounding "neo-swing" or use the moniker supplied by front man singer Eddie Nichols--"hard-boiled swing"--you'll need a chaser after downing this powerful cocktail of swing laced with jive and rockabilly.
The accomplished sextet behind Nichols includes saxophonists Mando Dorame (tenor) and Bill Ungerman (barry), and trumpeter Scott Steen, backed by a rhythm section sharper than a stiletto: James Achor on guitar, Vinny Lepisto on bass, and drummer Daniel Glass. Nichols is, as they used to say, one hep cat: his voice brings to mind both Louies (Jordan and Prima), and the band's work reminds you of the "crime jazz" soundtracks of Elmer Bernstein and Henry Mancini. Listen to this one while reading Mickey Spillane's Kiss Me, Deadly and downing straight shots of Canadian Club.
Their signature tunes "Zip Gun Bop" and "Hey Pachuco!" are already standards in their own right. Their lightning-quick, be-bopping "Park's Place" brings back the best of Dizzy and Bird's jam sessions. Damn! These guys play tight! On "Beyond the Sea," Nichols out-swings and out-swoons Bobby Darin. "Barflies at the Beach"--a send-up of Louis Prima's version of "Sing, Sing, Sing"--closes this outing with a politically incorrect ditty about the delights of eating Charlie the Tuna...with a fin of Flipper thrown in for good measure. Yeah, man!
Swing has never been done better!.......2006-01-05
This is such an awesome band! The lead singer was born to sing swing! You will fall in love with every one of these great tunes! You cannot listen to this great CD without tapping your feet!
The perfect swing album!.......2005-11-19
This was the album that discovered Swing music for my ears. Great sounding, energetic album.
If you want a good introduction to Swing, this is THE perfect album to get. Also check out "The Contender" by Royal Crown Revue, it was their follow up to Mugsy's Move. Great album as well.
I would highly recommend this album.
Oh Man i love this music.......2005-06-08
Simply a brilliantly fun album that shines in the band's musicianship. The group is so together and the songs are well balanced, flowing seamlessly through the changes in the songs that keep you listening and relate as a group of stories that are greta ot listen to and fun to dance to!
A very strong album that is a fun and fresh approach to the best type of music out there- swing baby!

A Beautiful Re-Creation of Over-Exposed Legrand Material.......2006-02-10
Michel Legrand is one the biggest artists of music entertainment, a sensitive composer and arranger.
Here you'll find a correct selection of Legrand's material with unnecessarily new arrangements though with an impeccable performance.
Many of the songs in the repertoire are still available in CDs you can find here @Amazon and the best Legrand is the original Legrand.
This album stands only for those who doesn't care about original takes and wishes just for a selection of the best Legrand.
"one of the greatest film composers of the 20th Century ~ Michel Legrand".......2005-10-26
Silva Screen has released a collection that will set you on your ear "The Essential Michel Legrand Film Music Collection"...Legrand's score sets the tone and mood you experience a sense of power and freedom, so exhilarating...Legrand's genius in composition and orchestration, puts the listener smack dab in the middle of each film he scores as it serves up a generous helping of heaven for all "film-score-buff" collectors
Michel Legrand was born in Paris on February 24th, 1932...attended the Paris Conservatory Progressing...worked in various jazz bands, later a staff arranger and composer...an orchestrator in the '50s...scored films in the early '60s with "THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG" (1964)..."THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR" (1968)..."THE GO-BETWEEN" (1970)..."SUMMER OF '42" (1971)..."THE THREE MUSKETEERS" (1973)...and three Oscars from the Academy Awards for "THE WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND" for best music and original song in 1969 , "SUMMER OF '42" for best original song and original dramatic score in 1972... "YENTL for best music and original song score in 1984...then in 2003 nominated for Broadway's Tony Awards for Best Original Music Score for the Musical "Amour", there's no letting up for this hard working composer.
The Flemish Radio Orchestra featuring conductor composer Michel Legrand on piano and harpsichord, Philippe Chayeb on bass, Thierry Chauvet on drums and Bruno Caviglia on guitar...all in all did a magnificent job in bringing the music of a composer who wrote for a multitude of films, receiving recognition from the industry and fans which is long over-due ~ his work is in constant demand.
This collection contains an overlay of each cue in Legrand's distinctive style of legendary scoring ~ the man who made this possible, a tremendous asset to every project he undertakes is Reynold da Silva [executive producer of the album] ~ symphonic suites with full orchestra fullfilling the "film-score-buffs" cravings for more of the same, just the way we like 'em!

Album Description
The process of choosing music for a wedding day can certainly be a daunting process for any couple. There are many choices and the questions can be endless. Traditional music or something off the beaten path? Will your Mom cry (and not in a good way) if you do not come down the aisle to the traditional Wedding March from Wagner, or are you eager to try something new? This collection is designed to give the bridal couple some key pointers to navigate the world of classical music for their wedding day. The package includes over 3 1/2 hours of music on 3 CDs for all portions of the wedding service, all from the Naxos classical label (known for high-quality recordings at inexpensive prices). Wedding day favorites are there, along with new discoveries and tunes you may have never considered for a wedding. All pieces are hand selected by professional wedding musicians and consultants. As a bonus, the 20 page booklet will lead you through the process of choosing music, from hiring musicians to sample programs. Everything you need to create your own unique personal wedding soundtrack.
Customer Reviews:
GREAT WEDDING MUSIC!.......2007-01-24
I used these CD's for my wedding, and I was so happy I did. You need to buy this CD if you like having a traditional wedding! :)
Good Music.......2006-07-05
I bought these CDs for my wedding, in ceremony and reception. Also, when I created my own wedding video, I used it as background music.
A very complete selection of ceremony music!.......2005-02-02
I am getting married in several months and we couldn't decide what music we wanted at our wedding ceremony. This three disk compilation reminded us of all the great ones- including new options we hadn't thought about. I really enjoyed hearing the organ and strings versions of the songs. If you're someone who hears a classical or baroque piece of music, but can't remember the name or the precise tune, this is a must-have to jog your memory and trigger the tear ducts!
Comprehensive Classical Selection.......2004-04-15
I searched all over for a CD set that had a somewhat comprehensive list of classical selections that are traditionally played at weddings. When I found this 3 CD set, I was very pleased. It contains 61 works from almost as many composers. This set might not contain the "best recording ever" of each of the selections, however it is very well done and the quality is very good. I used it primarily to choose the pieces that I wanted to have played by the church organist, and so the actual recordings were more for my consumption rather than for use in the ceremony/reception itself. However, I would not have hestitated to use the CD's in the wedding itself if needed. The book inside includes a list of suggested songs for various wedding styles (formal, outside, morning, etc.). From the classical neophyte to the seasoned classical music expert, this CD set will meet if not exceed expectations.
Just one note..........2003-06-07
I have not heard this album, so I cannot rate it as a whole. (The form made me include a rating, but disregard that.) However, I want to point out that track 36, the Pie Jesu from Gabriel Faure's Requiem is - well, from a requiem, a mass for the dead. The Pie Jesu is a lovely, gentle movement, and it has a beautiful and pure sound that does seem to fit the mood of a wedding. The Latin words, however, mean "Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them everlasting rest," where "them" refers to the dead.
Beautiful, but perhaps not so suitable for a wedding.
