The Golden Age of Grotesque was inspired by the seamy underside of Weimar Berlin, circa 1930. The album is constructed along the lines of Alice Cooper's 1975 gem, Welcome to My Nightmare, dipping in to the same cabaret of Cooper's "Some Folks." Unlike Cooper, however, this is no comic nightmare. "This isn't a show / This is my f*cking life / I'm not ashamed / You're entertained," Manson snarls in "Vodevil," making it abundantly clear that the singer was born in the wrong time and place and is more at home among the absinthe-drinking revelers in pre-Nazi Germany. The album possesses a dark, accessible beauty rather than the twisted industrial dissonance that pervades much of his earlier stuff. "mOBSCENE" is a thumping rocker that features a deranged cheerleading squad. "Ka-Boom Ka-Boom" is a rousing stomper that Manson penned in response to an exec's complaint that the new songs didn't rock. Its simple yet seditious chorus decries, "I like a big car, 'cause I'm a big star / I'll make a big rock & roll hit." Since 1998's Mechanical Animals, Manson's albums have become progressively more tuneful, and Grotesque continues the trend. --Jaan Uhelszki

3 out of 5 stars 3.5- 4 stars. This is definitely a hard one to rate........2007-06-18

Musically this album is pretty good. It's nothing too complex and almost takes on a nu-metal feel to it. It's catchy though and leaves the listener excited. There's no doubt that this album, musically, is more commercial than Manson's other albums, but that's not necessarily a bad thing unless you're looking for something extremely complex. I almost feel like this album was directed more at the teenage crowd, which is sort of a disappointment in a way- but theres not much you can do, I suppose.

The lyrics in this album, however, are definitely reprocessed from previous albums. I think by now fans are aware that Manson is all about sex, drugs, violence, religion, and government. At this point in his career, fans don't need to be told yet again that these things are the epitome of his being. It gets tired after awhile.

Otherwise, this album was pretty good. I think for the most part it appeals more to an adolescent crowd, but I guess that's the way Manson planned it. So if you enjoy an instrumentally average and catchy nu-metal sound with lyrics all about hatred for politics, government, and religion, I'd suggest you buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Make no mistake, Manson gets better with age........2007-05-14

I love everything Manson has done, but this one is right up there with Mechanical Animals as his best work. His new one, Eat Me, Drink Me, is coming out in a few weeks, and I am pumped for that too. This one includes the hits, "m(obscene)", and "this is the new sh##". But I think there are plenty of other awesome songs on here. He is not as heavy as he used to be back in the day, but I think he has gotten better at song-writing and coming up with killer hooks. For those of you who have stayed away from him because he looks freaky, you are missing out on one of the most talented musicians of our time. Not a dull moment on the cd. SOLID. My favorite cd of 2003.

4 out of 5 stars Oh Yeah.......2007-04-26

So, they're up to the 80s now, and his new white trash audience wasn't mature enough to handle it. It was supposed to be like Psychotica from the beginning of Brian Warner's music career fronting fake Christian death metal bands, but his fans just didn't get the joke. And, with their popularity in doubt, Manson and his band retired and began lecturing on the importantance of having a sense of humor. Went to number on the charts its first week of release during a weak sales period.

3 out of 5 stars Only buy if you're a Manson completist..........2007-04-19

Aside from a few good songs (most notably mOBSCENE), this is a rather tepid affair by Manson. He's simply recycling the usual stuff here, and it's rather stale. Marilyn seems to biding time here if nothing else. Manson is a hell of a musician, so hopefully the next one will be good.

5 out of 5 stars Manson's Celluloid Mind Control Masterpiece.......2007-02-11

Admittedly, as a long time Manson fan, it took me not a few weeks but a few years to fully appreciate this fermented green beverage. Longtime followers of Manson's intellectual three-card-monte (qabbalah, crowley, bowie, warhol, tarot, etc.) might've felt disappointed with Manson's "new direction" to nowhere, as Manson's previously suggested themes for the album (decadent-era Weimar, Lewis Carroll, carnivals, freakshows, fashion and gentlemanly vice) were absent almost entirely from the musical gestalt (excepting 1, 6, and 15... Manson numbers?) and scattered wildly in the lyrics ("get your arms around me now we're goin' down down down"?)

But ultimately, in its futuristically untimely way, TGAOG serves as a warning to the neocons: excessive capitalist accumulation mixed with vice ends in brutality. But Manson's notion of the image has always been mixed with the Brutal, "art brut", while reality television and early 21st Century examples of "image-fascism" or invisible eugenics were unsure of themselves.

Hopefully the card with the red dot will be flipped with Phantasmagoria or Eat Me, Drink Me. But why worry?, has Manson ever ultimately let us down?

Taking time off from her definitive series of J.S. Bach recordings, Angela Hewitt here brings us the complete solo piano music of Ravel. Anyone who wondered whether this seemingly dyed-in-the wool Bachian might stumble should rest assured: this is a stunning double-disc. As Hewitt makes clear in her characteristically illuminating liner notes, Stravinsky's jibe that Ravel was "only a Swiss clock-maker" was hopelessly off the mark. "One doesn't need to open one's chest to show that one has a heart," said Ravel, and in these often understated recordings, one is made to feel his point powerfully. "Scarbo" is all the more dramatic through the suppressed excitement Hewitt's playing exudes. "Ondine" and "Le Gibet" are at once immaculately controlled and intensely atmospheric. In addition to those works most frequently played, we also get rarities, like "Sérénade grotesque," written when Ravel was 18, and not published until 1975. As Hewitt points out, Ravel's favorite composer was Mozart, and she plays him with a Mozartean subtlety of nuance. --Michael Church

5 out of 5 stars The sound of sprinkled diamonds.......2007-03-17

Perhaps a little poetic of a description, but that's my simple, non-expert opinion. I've heard various versions of Ravel's piano works over the years, but never like this: brilliant, crystalline, and crisply articulated; each turn of phrase throws light in all directions. Will lift you out of your chair. Simply dazzling.

5 out of 5 stars More than a 'Bach Specialist'.......2005-05-25

Taking a break from her vast Bach cycle for Hyperion Records, Angela Hewitt puts her mind and fingers to the very different musical challanges of Maurice Ravel and the 19th-century French romantic-modern style. Well, all here is not completely divergent from Bach's music as Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin" is a "Bach or Couperin-like suite" containing a prelude, fugue, menuet and toccata - but, of course, not sounding anything like either of the Baroque masters! Regardless of the composer in question, Angela Hewitt is known for delving deep into a composer's life and music to emerge with the purest, most representative essence of each work. Accordingly, her readings in general stay true to the score and intent of the composer and are a good reference point with minimal "outside influences." Accordingly, her Ravel conceptions here are very idiomatic to the man and his era.

Having "one foot in classicism, another in Romanticm and yet another in Modernism," Ravel's music fascinates with its combination of clarity of form, evocative harmonies, gentle nuances and curiously shifting tonalities. Angela Hewitt's finesseful style is well suited to Ravel's often delicate, imagery-rich music with her lovely phrasing, feathery touch, and ability to achieve the beautiful tonal colorations so characteristic of French music of this period. As often stated about French music, "It is always meant to be beautiful," and Angela Hewitt sure can create beauty in this music. Ravel's dreamy, cascading pieces (Sonatine, Jeaux D'eau, Ondine and Miroirs) are conveyed with the lightest of texture, nuanced lyricism and feminine touch that can make Ravel sound so enchanting. Never a harsh note is heard. This pianist especially excels in drawing out the poignancy of Ravel's more introspective works like the Pavane or Menuet d'Haydn. In these, her line is heart-felt and beautiful. Yet, Hewitt can create a strong sense of drama and intrigue when needed in works like the early Serenade Grotesque or the highly intelligent Valses Nobles. Her Alborada (Miroirs) is hot and spicy - a fine tribute to Ravel's Spanish-Basque roots. Equally delectable are her crystalline chromatic textures and exacting rhythms in pieces like the Prelude, Forlane and the Chabrieresque Rigaudon of "Le Tombeau." Hewitt really brings out the best in Ravel's most curious and fascinating music.

As many know, one of Ravel's most significant and famous piano works is 'Gaspard de la nuit' which is something of a top pianist's 'right-of-passage' due to the immense virtuosity required. Probably the most riviting performance of "le Gaspard" was by Martha Argerich in a live concert (EMI). Some say you have not lived until you've heard Argerich's performance which is one of her most exciting on record. Contrastingly, Hewitt's approach the this daunting piece is one of more subtlety and precision of passage work, shunning sheer bravura. This is most notable in the last movement, Scarbo (an eerie being from the literary work who haughts at night). In this movement, Martha Argerich gives us a Scarbo that is indeed fully terrifying with her quicksilver virtuosity that haughts its victim more through sheer power (created through speed and volume). In contrast, Hewitt's Scarbo is more subtle and insideous - created from nuances of shading/tempo/dynamic. Both evoke an ominous atmosphere but in a different way. Certainly Hewitt's Scarbo is more 'tame' - but perhaps more stealthy and cunning than Argerich's overtly sinister Scarbo. Hewitt brings a real crystal-clarity to this third movement; but for some, it may lack drama and "punch" - but all do compared to Argerich's electrifying reading. But, to Hewitt's favor is the Sonatine where her delicate and ethereal playing far surpasses Argerich's hyper-paced reading which never quite finds the gentle emotional center (a common critique of Martha's readings).

This is a very fresh, inspiring set that critics have taken note. This 2001 set received very high marks from both Gramophone and Penguin who herald Hewitt as having achieved status among the great pianists recording Ravel. Pretty good for a so-called "Bach specialist." The more I listen to Angela Hewitt's talent, the more I appreciate this pianist's esprit, range of repertoire and ability to create tonal beauty in anything she sets her hands to on the piano. The sound quality is excellent (rich and full) as are the 14 pages (!) of SUPERB program notes (which include the full text of literary work, "le Gaspard de la Nuit"). These are some of the finest notes written and were immensely helpful to understand more fully this programmic piece as well as the context and history of all works. Ravel's fascinating piano music was a very pleasing revelation to me this year, and I consider this two-CD set one of the treasures in my collection - as I do pretty much all of Hewitt's ever-growing and superb-quality discography. if you like this set, you should check out Hewitt's 2006 release of Chabrier piano music which is equally fascinating.

5 out of 5 stars Riviting Ravel.......2003-02-27

Absolutely beautiful overall, powerful when needed, delicate when appropriate and always sensitive to what, I believe, were Ravel's intentions. But these are also fresh interpretations that I felt that I was listening to for the first time, especially the "Pavan." I have almost all of her Bach recordings and I am in the process of wearing them out! The Ravel is on that same level. Very highly recommended, even if you don't care for Ravel.

Alan Hewitt (no relation, to the best of my knowledge)

5 out of 5 stars Riveting Ravel.......2002-05-29

Angela Hewitt, already known for her excellent interpretations of Bach's piano works, has turned her attentions to Ravel with equal effect. Her well-researched and accessibly-written liner notes alone are worth the price of the CD and it is clear that the research has not been just an intellectual exercise. Her playing is informed and technically splendid and the album benefits from a fine piano and good acoustics, essential elements in recording Ravel.

I enjoy Angela's chameleon-like ability to play Bach as Bach, Ravel as Ravel, Granados as Granados, etc...Her technique is marvellous but, unlike many other great pianists, her ego takes a back seat and lets the composers/compositions shine in their own right.

5 out of 5 stars Great Ravel!.......2007-07-13

I think M. Collar is doing a really good job in this complete set of Ravel piano solo music (missing "La valse") The sound is very good for my taste ; clear and pearly. Very clean in the technically difficulties as well. I can feel his music very well. These are sensitive interpretations. I love them. I recommend this disc highly. Usually, I find out that pianists have too much the same sound for Debussy and Ravel. But here, we cannot mixed up! This is real Ravel sound.

3 out of 5 stars look at my other Ravel reviews.......2007-07-08

to see which other pianists I prefer.
As I listen to ravel's incredible breath-taking mezmerising genius of poetic beauty and dazzling skills at composition, I understand why ravel and Debussy did not care much for the geramn romantic tradition. Ravel could not stand anything from Beethoven. In my 30 yrs, the only thing i liked by Beethoven was his 4th sym(only Walter/Columbia), but even that work has faded to a lost memory.
Its amazing how few folk know the genius of Ravel, and even less appreciate the timeless beauty of his creations.
ravel is the flowering and culmination of the romantic period , which is why i feel no desire to hear Chopin.

5 out of 5 stars nothing grotesque about this little gem.......2006-09-02

Grotesque represents the mighty Fall at their most grotesquely brilliant. Considering this band's immense and immensely impressive catalogue, it is hard to single out any particular disc, but under duress one would have to admit that this one is up there. A new face in hell, one of the Fall's best ever tunes, resides on this cd, as do a plethora of other classics: pay your rates, english scheme, container drivers ... actually, they are all great. Listen to this record, and to every other recording by this, my favourite band of all time. You will either love them or hate them, but if you love them, it will be deep and forever

5 out of 5 stars A Good Rocking Time.......2006-03-02

First off, the sound quality on the 2004 reissue is first quality and crystal clear.
If you love The Fall, and great Mark E. Smith vocals buy this reissue.
The CD starts off with a charging rocker 'Pay Your Rates' that hits several speed shifts, and a great opener, followed by 'English Scheme', a synth-keyboard driven rock beat and M.E.S. sounding like he's having a good time rapping along. Funny, toe-tapping and great vocals. The drumming is top notch. Next comes the classic 'New Face in Hell'. What a terrific song. It's hard to keep up with all that's going on behind M.E.S. This song cooks. The kazoo (!?) bridges the melody as it rolls and rises, cresting as always through the great M.E.S. vocals. Great guitar and drums.
Trance beat follows with ''C'n'C-S Withering'. Whatever this song is about, it is hypnotic. Great stuff. 'The Container Drivers' is another Fall classic. I love this song on the highway as the truckers fly by. Cowpoke beat, a funny song and a real pressure cooker. 'Impression of J Temperance' has sinister feel to it. Still, no idea what M.E.S is rapping about. Hypnotic and a sort of menacing beat. 'In the Park' hops along, bobbing and weaving around the drums. A funky little tune. Does anyone other than M.E.S. know what some of these songs are about? 'WMC-Blob 59' starts off with the garbled static-coughed, distorted vocals and noise M.E.S. always seems to treat us to on his CD's. Mildly interesting, I guess. Blessedly short, once you know the CD, you will hit FF on this one. 'Gramme Friday' is a medium speed riff and drum driven song with some funny passages. 'The NWRA' closes the CD with a finger-snapping beat that M.E.S. raps over as the bass works it's way into the geometry happening behind him. As it pick up speed, it swings. No one plays it like the Fall. There are 5 bonus track on the reissue. All great songs and makes it even more worth your hard earned cash. 'How I Wrote Elastic Man' is very funny and a song that will stick in your head. The interview with M.E.S. at the end is interesting and entertaining. A generous CD if you are a Fall lover. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Better Than Hex.......2005-06-24

For some reason Hex Enduction Hour gets all the accolades but this is definitely the better record of the two. Great stuff from start to finish. A true classic.

5 out of 5 stars The Fall's finest hour.......2005-06-14

I've been following The Fall since Dragnet, and for me this album, plus the near perfect Hex Induction Hour is the band's greatest achievement.

'New Face In Hell' and 'Impression of J Temperance' are Fall classics.

Check out this album if you're looking for something out of the ordinary.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Their Early Work???.......2005-03-19

If you were alienated by the bleakness of "Dragnet," then "Grotesque" may be what you're looking for. Not to say that I don't like "Dragnet," but it's a work that is tremendously un-fun, a spite-filled, icy collection of songs that require a similar mood prior to listening. "Grotesque", however, is noticeably upbeat and fun. Of course, we're talking about Mark E. Smith here, so I'm not suggesting that this is a pop record--far from it. "Grotesque" captures one of my favorite attributes of this very great band--their manic energy. "Pay Your Rates" and the single "Totally Wired" are good examples. MES screams like he's being choked on "New Face in Hell"; and it sounds great, and I swear there's a kazoo somewhere amidst the landscape of backing instruments. "Gramme Friday" reminds me of The Cure's early recording, "Grinding Halt"; it's bouncy and I dare you to refrain from dancing.

5 out of 5 stars An overlooked set.......2006-05-04

Lortie's technique is assured and (I say this as a compliment) his approach seems to take Ravel's advice to heart: it suffices to perform the music rather than [over]interpret it. Ranks up there with Simon, Thibaudet, and Casadesus among other sets. Very good recorded sound.

The Golden Age of Grotesque was inspired by the seamy of Weimar Berlin, circa 1930.

4 out of 5 stars Grotesque is quite Good.......2006-09-09

I was ready to write Brian Warner off after his last couple of CDs flopped. The quality wasn't there and he seemed to be reaching for conformation. But lo and behold, his latest CD is also his greatest. Grotesque is full of original hooks, melody and sounds that make it fresh and exciting. The subject matter is more relevant and less shock value which makes it easier to absorb the messages while banging your head to the music. Best tracks: "Vodevil", "Bright Young Things" and "Mobscene".

5 out of 5 stars Stand up and admit, yesterday's never comin'..........2006-06-12

I am pretty surprised at the amount of negativity in these reviews. I am more surprised at how banal these complaints are. The chief one seems to be that he "uses rap slang now". Which is funny, as it is the chorus of the song "The Better Of Two Evils" and doesn't show up anywhere else on the album. The lyrics, "Haters Call me bitch, call me faggot, call me whitey, I am something that you'll never be" are barely hip hop, and I have this question for the complainers: What exactly are the haters saying about Manson if not those exact same things? But I digress.
This is an extremely solid Manson album. The lyrics are very memorable, and seem to be less constructed around a character (as all his previous albums, barring the Spoooky Kids work, are) and focus more on his relationship with the world around him. For me, this makes them easier to relate to. He has a tendency to to combine words and images in a very clever way that you don't see very often in rock music today. The music is much more industrial flavored, as the psych-rock freakout bass/guitar work of Twiggy Ramirez has been replaced with the cold, hard slam of Tim Skold. It's different, but fits the mood of the album very well. And as Manson said "It's not meant to be like the old songs. It's meant to be better."
As for the DVD, it's some pretty freaked out junk. Very out there and strange, might be hard to get for some people. I don't know. It's hard to make a general statement about it, other than that I quite enjoyed it as a visual piece of art.
That's about it. I can't pick a favorite song from the album. My least favorite is probably Para-Noir, which is less of a song and more of an audio experiment. If you don't need songs that make you angry at your parents or overly angst-y brain damaged "rawk" to freak out the "preps at skool" to enjoy a CD, I highly recommend this. If you do, maybe you should be listening to the Disturbed or Limp Bizkit or some such nonsense.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album. Requires some thought........2005-10-17

A lot of people here seem disappointed in Manson's latest creation. I don't understand this at all. I must be in the minority, but I love the evolution of Manson. I think he's gotten better musically and more clever thematically. Unofortunately, it seems his fans can't keep up.

Give this album several listens. Clearly this is an "exit album". Manson's frustration with his pop audience is obvious. "Do we get it? No? Do we want it? yea!". The Golden Age of Grotesque, cleverly camoflaged as a critique of the 30's era, is clearly a condemnation of the direction of modern music.

Its hard to miss the satire here. Yes, he's making up words, caricaturing production techniques of hip-hop and Nu-metal, and blasphemizing his audience in his lyrics. I hope Manson comes back from this album, which he has stated is his last, and reemerges in the music scene with something better. The question is, are you motherfs ready?

    3 out of 5 stars Uh, yeah..........2006-04-22

For a review of the album, look to the standard version of this album on Amazon. This review is for anyone specifically interested in the 'clean' version; presumably, collectors or people unable, for whatever reason, to get the standard version. If you're a parent considering wether to buy an edited or an explicit version of this album, despite what you've heard about Marilyn Manson, go with the explicit. With the exception of the song 'Para-Noir' -- a song which is completely ruined by the ommitance of the word 'f***' (look up the lyrics to see what i mean)-- cuss words aren't really an issue here, as this has got to be Marilyn Manson's least threatening recording ever.

As a collector of Marilyn Manson's music, i was eager to get this. The differences between this and the standard version are the censorship of some swears throughout the album (cusses are warped with effects, ommitted altogether, or, in the case of 'This Is The New Hit', replaced), and most cuss words in the lyrics artwork have been censored with asterisks (although 'wh**e' and 'b***h' are printed and sung without censorship)

The following songs have been censored:'This Is The New *Hit', 'mOBSCENE', 'The Golden Age of Grotesque', '(s)AINT', 'Sl*tgarden', 'Para-Noir', 'The Bright Young Things', 'Better of Two Evils'.

Get this if you, too, are a collector, or if you want to hear Marilyn Manson's music spoilt and interupted by censorship. God knows why a clean version of this was released. 'This Is The New *Hit' would be the only reason for a fan to buy this, but this version of the song can be heard in the music video (available with the special edition version of 'Lest We Forget' (a 'Best Of' collection with an awesome bonus music video DVD)).

3 out of 5 stars Great album when it's not edited.......2005-03-28

The Golden age of Grotesque is the first Manson album I ever bought, and it remains one of my favorites. The songs are heavy, and full of anger, but the lyrics are not as dark AcS, MA, or Holy Wood. The only swear words that are edited out of this cd are f***, and s***, so you still hear whore and bitch. If you have ever heard an edited album, then you know how annoying it is. I would suggest you buy the explicit version instead, if you can. I only bought this version because I am a minor and I was alone. I would give the unedited version 4 1/2 stars.

    5 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM.......2005-11-08

Marilyn Manson is a genius and this album proves it. It is a must have for any Marilyn Manson cd, the explict sexual lyrics are great as well as the politics

2 out of 5 stars Golden Age Of Disapointment.......2004-06-22

I don't know what Manson was thinking! He fires Twiggy, Hires Tim Skold, and you get this? When you think of Manson you think of shocking lyrics, and music that makes you feel like youre in hell, but you like it. GOAG is not as harsh sounding as Manson claimed, saying: "it's like being kicked in the balls with a brick tied to a shoe". In my opinion it's like when my little sister throws a grape at me. Not saying it's a bad album, but as a Manson album it sucks.

5 out of 5 stars This is the new Sh*t and it rocks.......2003-08-18

Marilyn Mansons brand new album and what an album it is its very different to AcS, Hollywood and mechaimal animals(the albums of marilyns i have so far)it is a hevay rock album mixed with cabaret and is a brand new sound to his music. its one of his best albums Along with AcS it has more of a "cabaret" point of view to his songs but it works really well they also have a new heavy pounding bass player tim skold who fits the band perfectly! i suggest you buy this album now. Marilyns still got more albums to come!

4 out of 5 stars Sumptuous and Unique.......2004-12-31

Anne Queffelec is one of the most interesting modern interpreters of Ravel. Like the great Gieseking, she plays these works as truly impressionistic music. I was impressed with how slowly Gieseking plays "Le Tombeau de Couperin," for instance, compared to most other pianists. It is far more effective. Ms. Queffelec's version captures this more thoughtful spirit and also has much better sound than Gieseking's. I have been mystified with performers like Entremont, Simon, Roge, Lortie and Thibaudet, who apparently see this as some kind of speed contest. Their versions, while all competently rendered, seem like cookie cutter versions of each other, compared with Ms. Queffelec's distinctive and very pleasing performance. I wish there were a recording by Jean Martinon on the piano, to demonstrate how beautifully this music can be rendered, since his orchestral version is second to none. (Again, this is in contrast to Charles Dutoit, who screams through the music as if he had a plane to catch). If you want to feel like you are in France on some sunny hillside where you can languish under a blue afternoon sky with a bottle of Beaujolais and baguette, this is for you.

1 out of 5 stars NOT as Ravel should be played..........2003-10-08

Her artificial pauses (NOT AS WRITTEN IN THE SCORES) ruin the overall shape of the works. Her phrasing is FAR TOO SHORT FOR RAVEL, omg she can't focus for more than 4 bars sometimes. This pianist is technically fine but her "interpretation" of Ravel does a disservice to his music! I'd HATE to have listen her gag her way through the second movement of his concerto in G, imagine her pitiful little pauses and phrases added to a melody line the length of 56+ bars in length.

I'm really surprised a "Fanatic" in here reviewed it and commented on the rubato as a good thing! With Ravel? NEVER unless he wrote a darned comma into the score (as in his Valses Sentimentales) then MOVE ON and CONTINUE the MUSIC. Don't pause for breath. The phrasing is in the BALNCE and the COLOR of the instrument and how the pianist brings it out. This one FAILS!

    Yuck yuck and YUCK!

5 out of 5 stars The music floats on air!.......2002-05-03

If you have to limit yourself, as I do in my office, to only a few dozen CDs, this is one that has to be on your list. Beautiful, light, and airy, are just a few words to describe the album as a whole. It is also nicely recorded too.

    5 out of 5 stars A Great Buy.......2002-03-04

Until buying this CD, I had yet to find a good recording of Ravel's complete piano works. I had tried the Abbey Simon and Werner Haas recordings and was dissapointed. This CD is the one I had been looking for. A great buy and bargain. She plays technically very well and brings out everything that should be brought out in the music and knows how to play Ravel. Buy it!!
