Album Description
These are deadly smart, beautiful, polished songs by a truly gifted songwriter -- some are funny, some are sad, many of them have lively arrangements involving, e.g., a string quartet or marching band, and all of them just get better the more you hear them.

Right On!.......2006-03-03
I have been looking around for new music for awhile, and the San Francisco indie alt-folk, witty, touching, inspiring, funny and eclectic sound of Larry Gallagher is just what I needed. This is a great album from the heart of The Bay. I just hope he keeps making music!
simply beautiful.......2003-08-18
My aunt first introduced me to "An Endless Chain of Accidents" while visiting her in San Francisco and I immediately fell in love the moment the first track came on. Larry's songs range from humorous and fun to deep and incredibly beautiful. Each song is perfected by the openess of his lyrics and vulnerability in his voice. When Larry sings about his darling Squeezletoe, there is so much love and devotion in there, you can't help but wish that he was singing to you. His more comical songs, such as "Nothing Left to Pierce" and "Show Me Your Flaw" will have you burst out laughing. You really can't compare this album to anything else, which is what makes is so worth listening to. Larry's unique style really sets him apart from everything else in the music world today. He doesn't sound like anything that came before him and he certainly does not belong in that long chain of "Wimpy White Guys with Guitars" I hear on the radio far too often. I hope musicians in the future will listen to this album and be influenced to be "the next Gallagher".
This album took over my brain.......2003-07-04
Since a friend gave me this CD, I haven't been able to take it out of my player. Each morning I wake up with one of the songs in my head -- so I put it on again, and the cycle continues. There are two things I love about these songs. First is the lyrics. They are so smart and poetic that they make me relax -- I feel like I'm in the hands of someone I can trust not to resort to cliche or sentimentatliy or, in the funny songs (and they're hilarious), puns. He reminds me of Tom Lehrer in at least one song, and there's no higher compliment.
Second, every arrangement is different from what you usually hear, in instrumentation and sometimes structure. Usually just subtly different. His singing slides around the beat, there's lots of acoustic instruments, like a string quartet on one particularly beautiful tune, and the solos are understated and tasteful (again, except in the funny raucous songs).
You can actually get a good sense of the songs from the mp3 clips on this amazon.com page.
Anyway, I just got this cd by chance because my friend knows someone in this guy's band -- apparently he's not well-known or on a big label or anything. But if there's any justice in the world (there isn't), this guy should become famous. Not since I heard Elliot Smith for the first time have I been as happy to discover someone new.
The World's Smartest Songwriter In The World?.......2003-06-13
Larry Gallagher has a gift for finding comic relief in the painful absurdity of every day life. Maybe he owes it to his years as a Zen monk, or maybe it's the time he spent "pulling rounds" in a slaughter house. His instrumentally rich melodies are a joy to listen to, but they're also so damned satirical, smart and funny, they'll make you cry laughing. I love this guy's music. You will too.

Album Description
Somegirl presents the band's debut album featuring their own unique blend of synthpop, chill-out, electronic lounge music with passionate female vocals and great songs. The band made a splash with their "Defeatist" single and the album does not disappoint with many other equally great, emotional songs.

Good music, semi-annoying vocals..........2004-04-27
I love the music of this cd but sometimes I can't help but find the lead singers vocals a little annoying. Her voice kind of throws the music off the path of righteousness that it could have possibly gone on. The vocals aren't very good and remind me a lot of a weak Debbie Gibson. The songs are great though and for the production and overall sound I have to give this album 3 stars. With a different vocalist I would have given this 4 or 5 stars but there are just too many moments while listening to this cd that I want to just strangle the singer.
very good & a touch of unique.......2002-12-26
i like this cd alot. this is a cd that you need to lock yourself away and put it on and listen to the whole cd. when i first got it, i skimmed through each track and thought "this is a little different". i decided that night to play some solitare on my pc. i put it on and listen to the entire cd. i loved it. great vocals. i got the feeling it had a touch of Mila Mar type of vocals in a few tracks. the cd is 68:32 long so you get a nice length. some of the songs are a slower more deep songs, while others have a nice dance feel to them. the song "try to relate" could end up on radio i think. the song "some girl" is already a single, and a great choice for one too. nice and dancey. the kind of exotic whisper/singing in parts of it is a very nice touch
a good cd to add to your collection. and of course another great cd from the shelves of a different drum. :-))

Album Description
You may recall that Diogenes, the Greek Cynical philosopher, was said to travel the land by day and night holding a lit lantern, in search of an honest man. According to the legend he never found one.
It's this legend that led Polly Moller to name her third album after the ancient philosopher...it echoes many of the traumas she suffered while writing the songs on the album.
New sounds crop up everywhere on Diogenes. Polly took up the guitar as a songwriting tool after her flute-induced shoulder injury become too painful -- adding a tightness, accessibility, and radio-friendliness to several new songs: "Synaesthesia", "Cellular Hill", "John Mockingbird", and "Three Quarters (Nubanusit & Contoocook)". Polly also included the disturbingly traditional sound of the autoharp on two tracks -- the dark and driving "Stark Weather" and the atmospheric "Plaquemine Brulée".
"I'm known for my fascination with Celtic music," Polly admits. "There is one Celtic-inspired tune on Diogenes, called 'Go Home'. It's psycho Irish music. It starts out traditional and slowly gets more and more disturbed, as the song's main character wrestles with the misogynist message of the song."
Diogenes was recorded in Eugene, Oregon at Lucky Dog Studio, with new collaborator Jeff Davis as engineer.
