Album Description
Allow us to take a bit more space than we usually would for one recording, as it is a recording we not only feel will be critically acclaimed, but is also one of great importance in its origin and purpose...
The artist community out of Colorado Springs known as "Blue Renaissance Creative Group" is a non-profit organization which consists of the folk ensemble 100 Portraits, acoustic fusion band Calling Cedar, and several other independent artists, all holding a global vision for reaching the lost through music. They evolved organically apart from the music industry as an expression of the Body of Christ from this generation. They brought us the Enter The Worship Circle recording last year, something they threw together to document their worship time together. Astonishingly, that rough recording captured in a make-shift studio in an old house has sold over 70,000 copies.
Without much change, and paying little attention to the success of the previous recording, 100 Portraits, joined by other Blue Renaissance artists as well as Will Hunt of Apt.core, returns with more of their original and down to earth worship-oriented songs... this time with the same name, simply being distinguished by the sub-title Second Circle. Several of the folks from Blue Renaissance have often traveled to third world countries to share their talents in the outreach efforts of indigenous churches. In recent visits to India, they were inspired by the native instruments and songs found among the village churches, and in fact documented some of the sounds they encountered, mixing select portions of those samples into the new recording.
Driving Indian rhythms intertwine with fresh, intimate, uninhibited expressions of love and worship to create this ground-breaking album, using instruments such as tablas, dumbeks, an amazing sitar, and who knows what else. With all original songwriting, even a few seemingly improv lyrical inspirations captured during the live studio recording, Second Circle allows you to join the musicians in their realization of how deep, wide, and amazing the love of God is. This collection of passionate songs reflects a desire for simplicity and spontaneity in worship, with its use of basic instruments and genuine expression. Hand percussion and acoustic guitars, simple arrangements, and a new world of looping-rhythm sections blend throughout every track creating a beautiful tapestry. Blue Renaissance is designating a dollar from each sale to go to Christian orphanages and schools in India-- one US dollar is the equivalent of an entire day's wages in India.
Every once in a while something truly different comes forth from creative wombs by the grace of God, with power enough to change the way you think about music, worship, life... this is that something. We give it our strongest recommendation.

great for entering in to worship and His presence.......2007-05-26
This CD is really great and deep in worship for our Lord. It really helped to awaken and engage my heart in Jesus and His love. I really treasure the times I've been able to spend just listening to this cd in my room + worshiping Him. Of all of my favorite worship albums, this is one of the best I've yet heard. Some other great ones like this are "The World Can Wait" by the Merchant Band, Misty Edward's cd's, "I Can't Wait" by Various Artists (might only be available at ihop.org), the WOW greatest Worship songs, and "Worship" by Micheal W. Smith.
crying worship.......2004-02-25
this album has been such a blessing to me! the songs on this cd are so prayerful, thankful, meditative and heartfelt! for anyone in need of pure worship in tears to God, this is it.
Not one to pass up........2003-11-29
When I first purchased this cd off of Amazon, I was already familiar with the first circle. I had actually bought this cd for a friend of mine for her birthday. a little later, I got a chance to listen to the same songs and borrow the cd in depth. (Ok, I admit it, she burned it for me.)
Were my expectations high? Yep. Were my expectations met?
Oh yeah.
It's really hard to write a review on a worship cd, because a worship cd is either kinda dull, and you like the sound of the songs, but you dont really get anything out of it, or it blows you away. And I have to say, that the songs on this cd have blown me away, and brought me to a deeper level of worship. (If any of you gifted people who helped produce this cd are reading this, then thank you for moving in the spirit.) But, I wanted to write a short review for those of you who may be interested in this but are not sure.
The cd starts off in much of the same style as the first circle with the song I Will Bow. the first 6 tracks on this cd are incredibly powerful words that are spoken directly to God. Especially, in my opinion, Near to you, and Faithful. Rush River Rush, and Praise Awaits You, (Tracks 7 and 8) are incredible worship songs. Lost Art of Living was a bit of a culture shock to me at first. It's style is actually more eastern. But its really a cool song/poem. The rest of the songs are awesome, and I had to dance to All I Need, and I Cannot Hide My Love.
The style of the music is hard to describe for me. If you just wont listen to music without heavy guitar or drums, then you wouldnt enjoy this cd for its musical value, although there are some sweet guitar chords and combinations in here. Most of the stuff is soft, and even the faster songs are very rythmic. but if your just looking for an awesome cd to worship God to, then I would recommend this to you as a valuable treasure, and an excellent addition or start to your worship collection.

Disney has been a relatively late comer on Broadway, but it's been hitting pay dirt since the stage version of Beauty and the Beast opened to critical acclaim and commercial success in 1994, followed by The Lion King and Aida. While Aida was the only original stage creation, the other two featured new songs that were not in the movies. In addition, Disney worked with some of New York's finest theatrical talent. In hindsight, hiring Julie Taymor to stage The Lion King was a stroke of genius, but it really was a daring gamble at the Time. Likewise, Beauty and the Beast gave talented theater singers like Terrence Mann and Susan Egan a chance to shine in meaty roles. Disney groomed talent as well: Heather Headley was cast in a supporting part in The Lion King before moving on to the title role in Aida. All three shows are represented on this CD (with a companion book due in October 2002), making for a perfect introduction to their best-known songs. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

"Since You've Been Away" they released this with bonus tracks!.......2007-07-02
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" I am often asked to write or talk about various 60's and 70's rock and roll recordings.
It took over thirty years for one of the Oxford Circle's live appearances to make it out of the vaults. The legendary Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco played home to a myriad of bands and musical styles. A show captured in 1966 will have fans of the Oxford Circle salivating. The studio bonus tracks at the end of the CD make this an instant decision.
Those that were not impressed with their blues and psychedelic sound would comment their original material did not stand out from the crowd. Even if you believe that honestly (The majority hold another view), they were tremendous at covering tunes. Their version of a song most noted by the Yardbirds "You're A Better Man Than I" is a tremendous rendition. The Animals hit "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" will grab your attention out of the box.
The Oxford Circle also pays homage to Van Morrison with "Mystic Eyes" and Little Girl." You can add a third tune "Baby Please Don't Go." Although penned by Big Joe Williams, Van has been associated with the song.
If you want to experience something completely different two members (Gary Yoder and Paul Whaley) not simultaneously went to Blue Cheer. For something closer to the Oxford Circle, check out the 1969 band Kak. The record has been reissued with bonus tracks under the title "Kak-Ola."
Be well always,
Craig Fenton

Awesome Hearing Them Again!!.......2004-10-06
What a wonderful surprise to learn this long-lost recording of the Oxford Circle's Avalon performance has been released. I remember when they were the "Hideaways" ("You've got to love your Hideaway") when I was in (Davis Senior) High School and at Freeborn Hall at UC Davis (Messrs. Patten, Keylor and Yoder were a few years older, and Paul Whaley was in my senior class). "Foolish Woman" was one of my favorite songs, and hearing it again after all these years was pure joy. I highly recommend this CD if you're interested in timeless rock by a superb group.
California Psychedelic Blues Garage Rarity!.......2003-02-18
Oxford Circle was a legendary psychedelic blues band primarily due to the fact that drummer Paul Whaley and vocalist/fuzz guitarist Gary Lee Yoder were members of the cult proto-metal band Blue Cheer. This set "Live at the Avalon 1966" contains 14 live cuts in good sound quality for the time period. In addition it also contains four studio cuts. "Foolish Woman" a garage/psychedelic favorite and "Troubles" another band original appear here in both studio and live versions. These are the strongest group originals on the disk. The live cuts are mostly classic blues or British blues/rock covers. Versions of "You're A Better Man Than I" (Yardbirds) and "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" (Animals)and some songs by Van Morrison illustrate that their main influences were British blues/rock bands of the mid to late sixties with a California psychedelic take. Blues covers "Baby Please Don't Go" and "I'm A Man" are especially energetic. The Yardbirds like rave-up at the end of the latter contains some Jeff Beck inspired guitar work by lead guitarist Dehner Patten with some psychedelic fuzz and distortion added by Yoder. Drummer Whaley is solid throughout and it easy to imagine why Dickie Peterson tapped him to fill the drum chair in the power trio Blue Cheer. Jim Keylor's bass is noticeable now and again weaving in and out of the guitar histrionics. Yoder's harmonica pops up occasionally and gives the proceedings a bluesier feel. The band broke up after Whaley left to join Blue Cheer. Yoder and Patten reunited to form Kak another psychedelic band before Gary Lee Yoder also joined Blue Cheer. Fans of California's psychedelic scene and rare blues/garage rock will find this to be a hidden treasure. Kudos to Ace/Big Beat for unearthing this rare psychedelic gem and providing great liner notes with a detailed history and pictures of the band.
Ok but not essential.......2001-11-21
Back in the late sixties n.j. schools would have things called dances where local bands would play cover material by the same bands covered here. And local unsung heroes Blue Underground would do them even better! Hearing these guys I get the impression they are trying to mimic their heroes which ultimately has to fail. For real psychedelic music Vincebus Eruptum or Electric Music for the Mind and Body by Country Joe and the fish are far more essential. For completists only.
Psychedelic blues California style.......2000-06-24
Formed around the nucleus of future Kak lead guitarist/vocalist Dehner Patten, future Kak and Blue Cheer vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Gary Lee Yoder, and future Blue Cheer drummer Paul Whaley, The Oxford Circle were at the forefront of the West Coast psychedelic blues music scene, this despite the fact that their entire recorded output during their tenure was exactly 1 single, "Foolish Woman b/w Mind Destruction" (the b-side being a 5 minute edit of an impromptu jam by the band based on Them's "Little Girl." The Oxford Circle were one of the most exciting live bands of their time, with tunes full of feedback and fuzz mixed with beautiful vocals. "Live At The Avalon 1966" documents the band at their height, with 14 live tracks, both sides of their lone single, and two previously unreleased studio gems, a total of 18 tracks and 75 minutes of classic West Coast psychedelia. The live tracks include originals, mainly by Gary Lee Yoder, as well as covers of songs by Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, Big Joe Williams, and others. Dr. John even guests on organ on the previously unreleased tracks. No fan of West Coast psychedelic music should be without this compilation. Hats off to Alec Palao and his "Nuggets From The Golden State" series, he and Big Beat Records have supplied a vital document in the history of California and American psychedelic music. Thanks.

When you think your light has almost faded.......2004-06-30
In the end, in the darkest of the dark nights and days, it is Cris who can bring me home again. I rely on music, it is a powerful force for joy and solace and a feeling of belonging with other people, that we have a deep understanding, though we are strangers. I used to worry about her and wonder how she could keep giving so much for such a long time. But this time she speaks, and she is funny, emotional, but it became clear to me (I've rarely gotten to see her in concert recently and I was just worried that she might get tired) that we give to her as she gives to us. But she writes it all, she stands in front, her hair is gray, she's not getting any younger. And when someday she must leave us, and we all must leave, her legacy will be there for us all. For always, all ways.
cris in concert! what more can you ask?.......2001-04-28
i've only had the pleasure of seeing cris in concert once at the bottom line in nyc, but it was an experience that i will never forget. while i was unable to attend this concert in celebration of CHANGER's anniversary, i listen to this album and feel like i am there in the audience. she showcases not only the CHANGER AND THE CHANGED, but also a wondeful collection of songs from the start of her career to the time of the concert.
cris has a wonderful sense of familiarity with her audience and it truly shows on this wonderful recording.
while the cd isn't the same as seeing her live, it is still a magical experience.
any of cris williamson's cd's are worth purchasing. she is a sound and soul healer.
A concert with Cris is truly a circle of friends ..........2000-07-04
This is truly one of Cris' better works. She does what she does best, her music touches the hearts of those who listen to and brings healing from the inside out.
A Circle of Friends is a CD which brings a blend of the old and new together and leaves you wanting more. As always, Cris sings in such a way that leaves lives changed and hearts feeling that alas there is hope.

WHEN FILM-SCORE METAL COMES ALIVE!
In January 2006, Italian Film Score Metal icons Rhapsody are poised to release their first live album ever on Magic Circle Music - entitled Live In Canada 2005 - The Dark Secret!
This testimony of pure energy, over 60 minutes long, was recorded at the 'Albert-Rousseau Arena' in Quebec City on June 13, 2005 during leg one of Rhapsody being the special guest on Manowar's 'Demons, Dragons and Warriors World Tour'. The first leg of the tour, completed in Summer 2005, was highly acclaimed internationally for its stripped down and performance orientated arrangements, which allowed the band to prove that the music is the message. "This album is exceptionally magical", says guitarist and composer Luca Turilli. "It combines the song visions with the fun we had on stage and the amazing reaction from the fans". Keyboardist and composer Alex Staropoli joins: "The reaction of the fans in Canada and the US was just unbelievable. That's why we simply had to name this album 'Live In Canada'. A true dedication!"
This Special Edition of Live In Canada 2005 - The Dark Secret will be released as a two disc set featuring the complete Quebec show and a bonus DVD with exclusive behind-the-scenes-material as well as the complete album in 5.1 surround sound! With no doubt this will set the band's epic performance in a new light and give the listener a truly monumental audio experience.

Customer Reviews:
Could have had a longer and better set.......2006-02-10
I'm giving this three and a half stars actually.
I don't feel I'm getting much more with the bonus DVD, other than finding out I'm going to be spending more on the upcoming live DVD (!). I don't find much use for the additional audio version of the concert on DVD.
Complaints first. Such a short set. Only nine songs actually, not counting the intro `The dark secret' and the `Gran finale.'
The selection is not great. They put relatively boring stuff like `Village of the dwarves' instead of something like `Holy thunderforce' or `Rain of a thousand flames.'
I'm not the biggest fan of the album `The dark secret' either, so to see three of the nine songs coming from there, wasn't very cool. Or they could have put `Never forgotten heroes' if they really wanted a `Dark secret' song.
You can barely hear the bass guitar in the mix, so there's always that lack when listening to it.
For live concerts, I prefer huge arena-sounding drums with a real deep end and strong reverb for the snare, but the snare in this CD is alright. The bass drum however could have been mixed a bit more.
I'm glad the CD contained `Wisdom of the kings' and `Emerald sword' at least. And Rhapsody is always a tight band, at least from what I'm heard from a bootleg.
So there. There could have been more songs, and less `trudge' songs like `Village of the dwarves.' They could have put a lot more goodies on this CD. I hope the DVD lives up to its claim of having plenty of documentaries and stuff. I actually enjoy documentaries and stuff as much if not more than the recorded concerts.
Very Good Stuff Here!.......2006-02-03
This is a very good live album! All the songs sound really really good. The setlist is not the best, but it works well.
I wish the dvd had the whole entire Live In Canada concert on it... That would have been a lot better, but it only has a few previews of the shows.
If your a fan of Rhapsody, or a fan of POWER METAL in general, you should pick this up, and give it a listen.

We all know that in addition to Nat "King" Cole being one of the most important American vocalists, he was also one of the most influential jazz pianists of all time, as this unearthed air check from a live 1944 Milwaukee club date so brilliantly demonstrates. With his drumless trio consisting of the fleet-fingered guitarist Oscar Moore and bassist Johnny Miller's supple support, Cole's Alabama-inflected, vibrant vocals on standards like the danceable uptempo "Oh, But I Do," "It's Only a Paper Moon," and the ballads "Sweet Lorraine" and "I Don't Know Why (I Just Do)" ring with an intimacy that was eclipsed in the more elaborate recordings of the '50s and '60s. Instrumentally, Cole's Earl Hines-derived, hornlike pianisms; Moore's elegant, twangy chords; and Miller's sturdy, walking bass lines swing Duke Ellington's "C-Jam Blues," Count Basie's "One O'Clock Jump," and the immortal "Sweet Georgia Brown" with a svelte simplicity that dances as well as trances, and reveals the vocal and instrumental roots of many jazz artists, including Diana Krall, Ahmad Jamal, and Monty Alexander. --Eugene Holley Jr.
Customer Reviews:
A great CD to own!.......2000-07-30
I just got this CD and I have been playing it non-stop ever since. You feel as if you are right there with the Trio. You can even hear glasses clinking and the cash register ringing! I especially love their rendition of Count Basie's "One O' Clock Jump". Other tunes included here are "If You Can't Smile And Say Yes" (in which Nat updates some of the lyrics), "Oh But I Do", "Everyone Is Sayin' Hello Again" and two takes of "My Sugar Is So Refined", (could he have been singing about Maria, his soon to be wife?) on which Nat accidently mixes up one of the lyrics, but you don't care because the music is so good. The sound quality is excellent. A big complaint by people who go to concerts and say the music sounded different than on record will not have this problem here! What you heard in the studio is what you'll hear on this live CD. Just convinces me more than ever that the King Cole Trio was the best group to come out of the 1940s. Get it!
Cole Trio-- LIVE!.......1999-11-08
This recording, released just this year, is a MUST HAVE if you love Nathanial Cole! Recorded from tapes of a '46 radio program, it gives you the TRUE feeling of "being there", has GREAT remastering, and incredible music! "My Sugar is so Refined" is a killer, as well as "Paper Moon." On this recording, you will also notice just how complicated Nat's piano arrangements were. Most singers play chords while they are singing, and at the break, get fancy. NOT NAT! He plays the MOST complicated minor chord accompaniment, WHILE he is singing as well. I feel he is truly ignored as a GREAT jazz pianist. This CD is a step back in time, which we ALL could use now. After just one listening, you feel that there was NO song these three fellas couldn't do. Perfection.

Fantastic.......2006-03-31
Waterdeep's newest release is a great addition to anyone's music collection. The cd comprises of 11 tracks taken from a live recording in Indiana in 2003. Most of the material is original, save for two cover songs - Woody Guthrie's "900 Miles" and Tom Petty's "Two Gunslingers". Upon the first few listens one will notice the exceptional drumming by bandmember Brandon Graves. Don and Lori trade lead vocals and do a great job on the guitar and keys, respectively. Fun CD.
1. Secret Lives
2. 900 Miles
3. You
4. Alone Everybody's Fine
5. Man, I'm Gonna Sing
6. Two Gunslingers
7. If I Said I Don't Mind
8. You Knew
9. Whether or Not
10. The Family In The Woods
11. Bring The Sadness Back In (Instrumental)

Album Description
The drummer-percussionist from Strasbourg (France) Pierre MOERLEN could, during an especially prolific career filled with prestigious collaborations, impose his very particular percussive style, and create a reference in the style of Progressive jazz-rock. And this is in this musical style that Pierre MOERLEN'S GONG take us: proudly assuming his part of the great inheritance left by Daevid ALLEN and company, his interpretation is less focused on the psychedelic or space-rock. "Full Circle - Live 1988" is nevertheless and excellent witness of a German tour: a truly indispensable album !

Customer Reviews:
The Carla Normand vocals are great.......2000-10-31
The Royal Society Jazz Orchestra sounds like a band from the late 20's to mid 30's, however they don't re-create note for note, they have their own arrangements taht sound 30's-ish. On this CD which celebrates Don Neely's Royal Society Jazz Orchestra's 20th Anniversary live, are such talented vocalsists as Carla Normand(a Mildred Bailey/Lee Wiley influenced singer)and and Jeff Gilbert(a Crosby/Herb Jeffries influenced crooner). Some good ut brief jazz solos, since this is more 30's oriented dance music, it is somewhat jazz oriented. This CD is fun, but the best tracks feature Norman's highly appealing vocals, and Neely's sax palying is also good.
There is no music from the 20's here..........2000-10-10
this is all 1930's music, as the other reviewer seems to have his decades mixed up. There are plenty of Crosby tunes, and this sounds like a somewhat mechanical 30's recreation band of mostly boring 30's society music, not hot dance music. Try Mora's Modern Rhythimists for a more exciting 30's recreation band.
