FekkThe Monsters of Metal/Rock! THIS IS HELLHAMMER - BE VERY AFRAID!!!.......2006-12-28
I am big old skool Black Metal and hate the metal that isn't Black Metal (ie, Cradle of Freaks, Dummy Booger, Nokturnanazi Morebordem, Dork Funeral, enz), HAIL HELLHAMMMER!!! They are the true Progenies of Black Metal! Them and Sodom, Venom and Mercyful Fate! Listen carefully and you will know why I rant and rave over this album! If you know my project, AHAZHAMMER, you will understand why I use Hellhammerish guitar riffing, and minimalistic drum beats, THE TRUE Mayhem coems close folks! Listen to Third of Storms, Revelations of Doom, hell! Listen to it all! It's very low chord riffs, that really was Minimalistic before Darkthrone did TRANSILVANIAN HUNGWER!!! Just get the darn album and you will be happy! Fekk the Monsters of Rock/Metal (Be Afraid Be Very Afraid? What stupid pitch are they trying to sell?) AND BE AFRAID - BE VERY AFRAID!!! THIS THE ONE AND THE SATANIC HELLHAMMMER!!!
Nice little E.P........2006-09-05
I thought "APOCALYTIC RAIDS" was pretty good, but not exellent or great by a longshot. It is more for historical purposes in seeing how this would influece countless black and death metal bands of the future, as well as being essentially a embryonic version of Celtic Frost. The overall sound of the recording is very primative and raw, practically oozing out of the speakers in what must be some strange form of sonic sludge never experienced before or since. The 9 minute "Triump of Death" is the center piece of it all, a slow, doomy epic with Tom G. Warriors viceral grunts and screams going all over it.
Tomas' voice can hardly be understood on this. He seems to use his voice more as atmosphere rather then a means to convey lyrics. Guitars are very simplistic and almost punk-like, save for speed. My favorite track on the whole thing has to be "Agressor", which has drums from Hell and in my book the most memorable riffs to it. Nothing sounds like this.
Know your roots.......2006-08-20
Yes that may be a funny comment coming from a guy who wasn't even alive when this came out (I was just being conceived actually) but I'm a guy who always appreciated the 'originals' in any genre of music and especially in my favorite one.
So you think you're a bad*ss because you like Darkthrone and such? Think you're kvlt as fvck? How about necro? Hmmm, well you don't know squat about evil until you know you're f*cking roots and pick up this original and influential EP.
Like most early extreme metal it's very raw and it totally adds to the atmosphere with their trademark 'evil muddy buzzsaw' guitar tone. As for the songs we start out with two early death/thrash/speed numbers but then the absolute highlight of the album...
...Triumph of Death! Perhaps the EVILEST, DOOMIEST track ever made by man. After listening to the first two songs this one might catch you off guard. Although Celtic Frost had some doom numbers on Morbid Tales but nothing quite like this. Don't believe me? Just listen to the song, the agony and anguish in Tom G Warrior's intermittent gargling screams will creep the bejesus out of anyone I guarantee it. It really paints a scene reminiscent of a person being tortured in a medieval dungeon filled with rotting corpses and old skeletons, and doesn't even sound cheesy at all, just all around genuine sonic pain that'll give CHILLS down your spine. Worth the price of the CD alone.
The next three pick up the pace. Horus/Aggressor is straight-up speed metal track, Revelations of Doom is even faster, then another highlight is Messiah which is probably the thrashiest one here and my second fave. It's also been covered by other thrash bands like Sepultura so that should tell you something about it right?
Overall a great precursor death/black/thrash band that's shows how evil is REALLY done. Great job boys! I agree with everyone else, this is a sweet album cover which is actually entitled "Sitting Death".
Also recommended - First two Celtic Frost albums, early Sepultura, Possessed, Venom, and their Satanic Rites demo. I even heard their new album is pretty cool too, I'll have to check that out myself sometime.
GOTTA LOVE THAT ALBUM COVER..........2006-06-29
The old "evil one" launching his raids across the Earth, or wherever the hell it is...Anyway, don't know much about these guys or Celtic Frost, but this little album (really an EP with bonus tracks) is a lot of fun. It's difficult to label, esp considering the legendary influence it had on artists ranging from hardcore to thrash to death to black metal. Very stripped down, "garage days" production, w/ a dark, almost gothic feel to it. If anything, Apocalyptic Raids is worth checking out simply for historical purposes.
Revelations of Doom.......2006-04-07
A true landmark of minimalism-as-maximalism chaos metal. Still sounds heavy and black today. Light the candle and listen...

For Celtic Frost Fans.......2000-02-03
Is It Me?,Or Is The Original Copyright Date Wrong?I'll Have To Go Dig Out My Vinyl For This One!Anyway, I Bought This Years Ago For The Album Jacket, And What I Found Was A Raw,Heavy Sound,That Was Not Being Done At The Time,The Songs Are Epic In That They Continue A Mood Throughout The Album. While This Is Not A "Studio Pefect"Release, It Is A Must Have For Celtic Frost Fans. You Will Find That Most Of The Tracks From Morbid Tales Come From This Original Release.
THE death metal album.......2000-01-20
Hellhammer is the ultimate deathmetal band. Their sound is equalled only by such bands as cannibal corpse and morbid angel, each premiere death metal bands in their own right. Here's a story for ya. A critic talked smack on this album, so the lead singer went to his house and killed him and his whole family with a medieval battle axe, and then he went home and took his own life. He left a note that read,"sorry about the mess." The band, obviously distrought, decided to take his brains and eat them in a stew to gain his knowledge. That's why hellhammer is THE death metal band. representing altoona's death metal society, consisting of matt hazlet, justin lefevre, andy wojcik and the DTG's, and everyone else who enjoys carnage.
The true masters of the original DEATH METAL scene.......1998-12-13
I own the original vinyl for this and also the 1990 A.D. vesion on disc.Tom G Warriors original group which later turned into "Celtic Frost".This album by far is one of the best DEATH METAL albums of all time.If you like your music raw than this disc is one that you must have in your collection.
A Death Metal Diamond to be treasured!.......1998-10-04
For those of us old enough to appreciate the advent of hardcore death metal, this collection of tracks hails the emergence of the mighty Celtic Frost and the ingenuity of its founder "Tom Warrior". Sorrowfully, the era of Celtic Frost came to a tragic and premature end!!! Nonetheless, these songs epitomize a sense of mysticism and despair of the human condition that, I believe, represents its quite special emotional expression. These songs are intentionally raw and should be appreciated as such. Maybe "Tom Warrior" will suprise us with some original and interesting material with Apollyon's Sun.
The fetus of Death Metal.......1998-09-27
This is the first true death metal lp ever. If for no other reason than this, it is a must have. Moreover, the tunes are f*ckin awesome.

The begining of Black Metal.......2005-09-28
May be Hellhammer was one of the very few Metal bands who relased about 25 years ago a kind of music that until this day is cult material for Black Metals souls like me, and as well as some yougers. This recording become the most influential music on my youth and one of my top favorites. To this day I hear in a regular basis my old Metal LPs and CD, like those from Destruction, Celtic Forst, Metallica, etc., but I prefer Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, because these bands create to my ears and brain the most original and intelligent and intense metal music that I have the pride to heard on.
