1 out of 5 stars Bad, bad, bad.......2006-08-15

I love Type O Negative. I love the dark humor and thrashy riffs of "Slow, Deep, and Hard," I love the "overproduced" pop perfection of "October Rust," and I love everything in between. This album, however, is a big failure. It is amazing that a band who rarely writes a song that is anything other than outstanding could manage to compile such a mediocre "greatest hits" album, but they have done just that. This album suffers from two big problems: Firstly, the song selection is horrible (I can think of 10 TON songs better than "Cinnamon Girl" on "October Rust" alone), and secondly, whenever they do pick a classic, they edit it down to a shorter, more radio-friendly size. Not only is this annoying for devote fans, it doesn't even really serve as a good introduction to the band for newcomers (if you can't deal with an 8 minute song here and there then you aren't going to like TON, period). The two bright spots here come from previously unrealeased material, as "It's Never Enough" and "Stay Out of My Dreams" are, surprisingly, two of TON's better songs (indeed, it's amazing that these songs did not make it onto "World Coming Down" [whose recording sessions they were taken from], as they might very well have been the best two songs on that album). However the rest of "The Least Worst of..." is poorly thought out. The new material and various remixes might make a decent odds 'n' ends CD for hardcore fans, but as an introduction to the band this CD is a terrible disappointment. For a good beginner course in TON try "Bloody Kisses" (the eclecticism of which makes it a great representation of the band's stylistic range). Just make sure that you get the original (with "We Hate Everyone" and "Kill All the White People") and not the newer version (with "Suspended in Dusk"). Stay away from "the Least Worst of...," however, except to burn some of the new material onto a mix CD.

5 out of 5 stars Cool Into to the band.......2006-02-06

This is a good cd. I'm not really into Type O Negative, but I like most of the songs on the cd. I'm still not a fan. I just like certain songs. Its dark and morbid. It works for me.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely Not 'Worst Of', Type O Collection Very Enjoyable..........2005-11-07

Throughout Type O's lengthy career, they have released albums that are true landmarks in moody, dark metal. BLOODY KISSES was the definitive Type O album, selling well over a million copies and winning new fans the world over. Subsequent releases like OCTOBER RUST showed the bands more melodic side, while WORLD COMING DOWN showed pop sensibility and a little more thrash. THE LEAST WORST OF is actually sarcastically titled so because it's a semi 'best-of' collection, showcasing the bands best songs in shorter form with some unreleased material.

You'll find most of the band's hits in edit form, minus the lengthy closing track "Stay Out Of My Dreams" and the previously released "Black Sabbath", and the 12 minute plus "Unsuccessfully Coping With The Natural Beauty of Infidelity". You can find different mixes on this album, but "The Misinterpretation of Silence and It's Disastrous Consequences" remix is actually more of a joke on the listener than anything. "Christian Woman", "Black No.1", "Everything Dies", they're all on this collection for your enjoyment. This collection is really geared toward the casual fan, to entice them to buy the albums that have the full-length versions of all these songs minus the ones that clock over 7 minutes. "Unsuccessfully Coping" clocks in at over twelve minutes, but it's musically expansion is haunting, it's worth the long listen...patience is a must.

So if you're a casual and you've been curious about Type O Negative, then THE LEAST WORST OF is worth the price. You'll get all their hits in short form and a couple of odds and sods to get you enticed to purchase the rest of their catalog. It's a very good collection of songs, and it shows the transformation of a band that really still has the machine churning just fine.

5 out of 5 stars Saves CD swapping.......2005-10-08

These are hands-down some of my favorite TON tracks, if nothing else, it saves you switching around CDs to hear favorites. Yeah, that's lazy.

Type O does things with music that no one else does. There is a layered quality to it. They make "big" music, if that makes any sense. Listen to the CD, you'll get it.

This disc also includes "Hey Pete", a gothed-out version of Hendrix's "Hey Joe". You would think that it is done, as many TON songs are, with tongue planted firmly in cheek ("Hey Pete, where you going with that axe in your hand?" and so forth) However, I find this remake to bring out the true air of desolation and sadness of the song, and it conveys the loneliness of "Joe" (Pete) far better than Jimi's. Yes, better than Hendrix's. I said it, I'll say it again. Don't call me a blasphemer.

I love these guys, for their contribution to music in general. No one else is like them, and no one else does what they do.

5 out of 5 stars One helluva album!!.......2005-06-15

This album is certainly one of the best works of heavy metal in the recent past. A compilation of Type O Negative's greatest works spanning over a decade of musical talent. These guys were neither very fast nor too slow. They blended their compositions with an improvised and sophisiticated tune.

The album features their masterpieces --- love you to death, christian woman, cinnamon girl, my girlfriend's girlfriend and everything dies (...though they missed out on bloody kisses [a death in the family] which is one of my personal favourite and i think should have been inducted in the album).

The second last track of the album viz. Unsuccessfully coping with the natural beauty of infidelity is a MELODRAMATIC song in the true sense of the word. The song unravels beautifully...slow initially, then gaining pace in the middle and again slows down towards the end...its just wonderful to listen to their terrific improvisation of the song being interspersed with high and low.

However, the real icing on the cake is delivered by Peter Steele's baritone voice. He has sung all the songs with effortless brilliancy. His deep and intense sound has bounded all the songs together and has given them a common touch.

In a nutshell, this album, as no need to mention, is TON's greatest hit and is a must have for any metal buff. So don't waste your time, rather listen to this musical masterpiece and turn those wasted time into precious moments B-)

4 out of 5 stars "My soul is on the ground and I'm walkin' down the street".......2005-02-11

I was first introduced to the Suicide Machines while playing "Tony Hawk Pro Skater". The song "New Girl" came on, and needless to say, I liked it enough to buy "Least Worst of the Suicide Machines: 1995-2001". The pure punk energy of "New Girl" is very evident throughout all 30 tracks. These guys combine several styles, most of which include ska, punk and metal. If you can picture a band that combines the sounds of Green Day, Sublime and the Voodoo Glow Skulls, you have a pretty good idea of what the Suicide Machines sound like.

One of the first things you will notice about these guys is that they're a very tight band. The production, engineering and timing is nearly flawless; not something you get from a lot of punk and metal bands. The mood of the music shifts drastically, sometimes even in the same song. One minute they'll be belting out metal riffs, backed up by screaming, and the next minute, they're freewheeling along to some sweet ska riff with a new range of vocal tones ("Too Much"). There are several standout tracks included here: "Break the Glass*," "Islands," "Too Much*," "No Face," "New Girl*," "SOS," "Vans Song*," "Permanent Holiday," "Sometimes I Don't Mind*," "Fade Away*". Although some of the music sounds like straight forward metal, a lot of it is filled with keyboards, and an assortment of brass instruments, giving the album a real diverse feel.

All in all, the Suicide Machines threw together a great compilation of their previous work. Spanning at 30 tracks, there is very little one can complain about. They have a refreshing sound for making the type of music that they make. Buy the "Least Worst" and discover the energy; you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Suicide machines, greatest SKA band .......2005-01-10

With this cd, you get your moneys worth. 30 awesome ska songs spanning the bands carear. The songs cd has a good changing tempo, and includes the bands best songs. An awesome buy

3 out of 5 stars an ok cd.......2003-01-18

This CD was OK. If you are just getting into the Suicide machines I recommend Destruction by Definition before getting this one.

4 out of 5 stars Missing one track!.......2002-12-13

The only thing I can really find wrong with this album is the lack of the song 'Leap Of Faith' which, in my opinion, is their best song! The CD is very good in general though, containing some of The Suicide Machines' best (Killing Blow, Perfect Day, Vans Song). Very good 'first Suicide Machines' CD.

5 out of 5 stars Unheard of, but AWESOME!!!.......2002-12-08

This is a cool cd, if you don't know who the suicide machines are, they're the band that sings the first song "New Girl" off of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I have no idea why "Hating Hate" is on there twice, but what does it matter, its a cool song anyway :D
Here's my top 7 Suicide Machine songs:
1. The Killing Blow
2. Break The Glass
3. New Girl
4. Vans Song
5. Hating Hate
6. Islands
7. Sometimes I Don't Mind (a song about dogs)
