5 out of 5 stars I can Only Imagine.......2007-08-01

Knowing what I was getting before I purchased it only makes this product more endearing to me. I love the praise and worship and the ability to put it on my computer at work, in my car and at home. Listening to this easily puts my mind before God's presence so that I may commune with Him. Further, I saw this on a TV add to be purchased from Time Life. It was a few dollars less on Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars My Power Anthem Review.......2007-06-12

This is a great cd. I have to say, I love all of the songs on it. They are wonderful songs to walk (exercise) with; sometimes I find myself dancing.

4 out of 5 stars I Can Only Imagine.......2007-03-26

I love this album. It's great to have on in the background while you're pottering around the house 'cause it's 'easy-listening'. Of course, when it comes to my favourite Mercy Me song I blare the sound!

1 out of 5 stars I Can Only Imagine.......2007-01-16

I was very disapointed with the sound and the voices singing on this cd. I ordered it because I heard the song I Can Only Imagine and it was wonderful, however thie singing on this cd seems to be out of tone, sounds like amatures singing and I hate it. I do not like the entire cd. how sad as I spent good money thinking I was getting a quility of good singers.

A collection of well-known pop tunes, this record documents those ubiquitous tracks that have been played into the ground at nearly every sports facility in the country. Most, like "Whoomp! There It Is" and "Hip Hop Hooray," are undeniably catchy, and other tracks were downright splendid when they first appeared on the scene. Some even credit "Pump Up the Volume" with being a breakthrough for the electronic music scene of the late '80s and early '90s. Still, bringing musical innovation to light is not what the makers of this recording had in mind. It's all about the trashy glitz, fleeting glories, and mindless greed of late-20-century American sports. Revel in its dubious charms, and risk having your brains turn to mush while a permanent grin takes over your face. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars A trip back..........2007-05-05

I first heard this mix only very recently, in a long cab ride, and begged begged the driver to let me buy the disc from him. He refused, but let my friend run into his apartment and upload it into his iTunes. I have since bought the disc, and love it soooo much. It's upbeat, loads of fun, yes, great for cleaning the house to. But really, it brings me back to the days of middle school, going to school dances and buying cassette singles with my friends on the weekends...just being care-free and being a kid. I had been feeling nostalgic for those days lately and this disc captures my youth perfectly!

5 out of 5 stars Great for Fitness Classes.......2007-01-26

I'm a PE teacher and my students LOVED doing circuit training to this CD. Every song is super upbeat. It really helped get my classes motivated. I wouldn't buy this CD for general listening music but for fitness it's definitely my favorite.

1 out of 5 stars Have some respect........2006-08-07

This is not music. Have some respect. If you like this you are probably an idiot jock who thinks the middle east is somewhere near Kansas. Please America, wake up.

5 out of 5 stars Whooooooooooomp! Here's the review!.......2005-12-20

Tell-Tale Bonanza's back again!! I'm a total jock if you already didn't know, my resume speaks for itself. This cd is not only great for sporting events, but works well at any social gathering. There's just something that is beautiful about seeing Lupus Fury do the tootsie roll. Let me tell you a little bit about Lupus Fury. You may be wondering how he got such a nick-name, well let me break it down for you... Lupus- is latin for "Wolf" and we all know that he's hairy like a wolf, and stinks like the Cumberland river. Fury- anger, violence, rage. that sums him up right there, the man has 8 restraining orders, and is a registered sex offender (we still laugh about that to this day) So now we know Lupus, a hairy wolf like angered man, don't get near him during a full moon either, he might hump your leg, but he gets more action than teen wolf (thanks to me). Our parties are just a big spectacle, we really do put on a show. When the song "You're Unbelievable oh!!!" comes on,Big Frank will put on a gymnastic routine that will leave you wondering why he wasn't on the olympic squad in 96 (steroids). Chubby Lou is in charge of running the party (there's never a shortage of cheap booze and hot pockets) and doubles as the bouncer, you don't wanna catch one of his famous DDT's, little-known fact, Chubby Lou used to be an amature wrestler (they said he was too fat) and had a stint as Barry Horrowitz tag team partner in 88. Cheese Grits doesn't really have any talent, we just thought he had a cool name so we let him in the clique, but he can juggle, so we get him tanked up and make him juggle by the end of the cd we circle around him and sing along to gary glitters "duh nuh nuh nuh nuh HEY!!! duh nuh nuh nuh!!!!" and so on, he has a look of terror on his face, but it's totally worth it. by that time we settle in, and there's about a 10-3 girl to guy ratio, some of us score real big, whoever is lucky enough to make it to my room, gets to personally here "Gonna make you sweat" by C & C Music Factory. Now that you see the power that this cd holds, I hope you would go and buy it (or steal it from your P.E. teacher, like I did).

Jock James is a great fun CD, no seriously well written music but come on it has at least three songs with the word PUMP in them. What a fun album!

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Is this a trance CD or a Ministry Of Sound Annual?.......2007-07-31

If this is supposed to be a trance CD, then there better be some TRANCE on it. If I wanted a house or dance CD, I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE!! But I wanted a trance CD, I paid for a trance CD, and there was only a handful of trance on it! I'm not saying that I don't like house or dance, I'm just saying that I don't want it on a trance CD! Johnny Vicious should just stick to making the other thrivemix CDs and leave the trance compilations to someone who knows what they're doing. A major dropoff from the first which I thought was great. Yeah, there was a few trance tracks on it, but hardly any of them could be considered "anthems". The only thing keeping this from receiving 1 star was the few good house, trance, and dance tracks on it. Disappointing.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!! My favorite mix!.......2007-07-26

This mix is absolutly AMAZING! Since the I bought it, I have not been able to take it out of my car cd player. The track selection and mix really keeps me moving, I loaded it on my iPod and its perfect for my workouts. I love the new version of iio "Rapture", Sunfreaks, Deep Dish, Chris Lake, Depeche Mode.... I mean all the selections and artists are fantastic. I own all the other cds in the ThriveMix collection and the quality is always OUTSTANDING!

5 out of 5 stars Some Trance, Some Not, But All Good.......2007-07-24

This is a great mix. I found myself liking almost every song and that's very rare for me with most compilations. Gabriel and Dresdens "Dangerous Power" and Delerium's "Lost and Found" remixes on this album are a must hear. The Trentemoller remix Moby's "Go" is worth buying the CD altogether. The PVD remix of Depeche Mode is excellent too. I love this album because it is not your usual repetitive trance album. It moves from vocal and melodic to electro tinged trance and it has some big club tunes (like the Iio, Sunfreakz and Chris Lake tracks) that while maybe not traditional trance, are huge songs that really round out the mix. This is one of few compilations where I will load the entire album onto my Ipod.

4 out of 5 stars ThriveMix does it again..........2007-07-24

Once again ThriveMix has put out a brilliant TranceAnthems compilation. I love the trance remixes of Depeche Mode, Hilary Duff, and iiO. And since I just saw Wicked, I was pretty stoked to see the remix of 'Defying Gravity.' I have all of the ThriveMix line, and this was a pleasant addition.

3 out of 5 stars A few good songs; a lot of filler.......2007-07-17

Thrivemix is releasing these compilation cds left and right. I might be wrong, but I think that this is the fifth dance compilation that thrivemix has put out in the last year. It's also my least favorite. There are some good songs here. I still love "Flashdance" by Deep Dish. There's also a new version of "Rapture" by dance favorite Iio. However, most of the tracks on here are just mediocre. If you want a good Thrivemix collection, buy Thrivemix Presents Dance Anthems.

4 out of 5 stars Zombie Nation... right..........2005-07-16

Don't get me wrong, this song is great, and so is the album, but if you're going to put together a compilation, do the research!!! The song is called Kernkraft 400 by the group, Zombie Nation!!! This is a combination of a song that sounds like the band name, and ESPN who doesn't care what titles they dole out...

5 out of 5 stars OH THE NOSTALGIA!.......2005-06-29

Back in like the mid 90s I lived in Oahu, Hawaii. In those days everything you hear on this disc was played all the time on the radio (Xtreme Radio 104.3!!!). These were the glory-days of dance music, when the masses finally started to appreciate it in America (I think), myself included. I would hear this all the time on the radio at home, and that right there molded my tastes for music for the rest of my life. It was upbeat, it was smooth, it wasn't conscious of itself like that hideous rock music, and it had only one purpose: to get you moving on the dance floor! It's been many years since I heard these songs, and I tried to find them to return to those great days for dance music. I've finally found the disc! THIS is the perfect CD for working out, driving your car, or just plain getting excited and crazy! I LOVE this CD! :P

5 out of 5 stars Jam On.......2005-02-04

This mix album is one of the best ever made. This album can be used to workout to or to play for sports teams during warm-ups. With 21 rhythm packed tracks you won't be disappointed. From classics like "We will rock you" and "Macho Man" to newer songs like "1, 2, 3, 4" this album is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Best Freakin Clutch Album EVER!!!.......2007-04-01

How could you not love this one? A Shogun Named Marcus - totally rocks. El Jefe... Binge and Purge... Effigy... Rats!!! If I could own one album, this would have to be it.

5 out of 5 stars Clutch Rocks!!!GET THIS CD!!!.......2007-01-23

This is one of my favorite albums of all time! If you don't have this album, you need it!

5 out of 5 stars What A Badass Band. .......2006-02-28

Clutch jams, their heavy, and they have a killer front man. This was my 1st intro to Clutch. Every song on here is unlike any you've heard before; I don't think anyone sounds like Clutch. You want the kind of band that's funny as well as serious at the same time, able to deliver their songs with ultimate heaviness while still proving their musical abilities? There you have it. Get on this band now! For any fans of bands that you can party to as well as get into in a serious way. I can't name any other bands that are kind of like Cluch because I don't think anyone sounds like them. Easy 5 star rating here.

Necrosoul.

3 out of 5 stars The first record by the almighty Clutch.......2006-02-25

Was expecting better but was not bad. A bit more raw than much of their other stuff.

5 out of 5 stars I'm not saying rock is dead........2005-12-31

I'm really not.

But how many CDs have come out in the last 10 years that can compete with, "Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes & Undeniable Truths?" How many CDs have this much voracity and groove?

Rock is a retired word. Bands like Audioslave are not rock, they are heavy lounge music. Bands like the White Stripes are not pioneers; they are recyclers with bursts of innovation. I'm not saying Audioslave and the White Stripes are bad, but neither band has a song that rocks like El Jefe Speaks. Or an album that opens up at 90 mils per hour with A Shogun Named Marcus.

There are so many good songs on this album. There are so many good songs on all of Clutch's albums. Clutch is one of those love or hate bands, more love than hate. This is one of Clutch's earlier albums, a little less groove, and a little more rock. I'm not saying that the band doesn't lay down the smooth bassline, and let the song unfold around it, because that certainly does happen (Binge And Purge). Clutch has a healthy amount of musical variety on this album, actually. The first 3 songs, sequentially, are perfect. If those 3 songs were on an EP I would be content.

The whole album is pretty groove-laden. It's just not the same groove that you will find on Robot Hives:Exodus or Blast Tyrant. That's not a bad thing though. Sure, Clutch has warped their sound a bit, but stylistically, they're a similar band today 10 years ago.

That said, "Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes & Undeniable Truths," is a wee-bit heavier than the bands later works. So, if you're expecting keyboards, or vocals that can groove like the bass, you might not want to look here. If you're looking to rock, no-BS, I promise you this album rocks. Sure, it's a tad bit on the heavy side, but it's less punk than COC and almost as groovey as Black Sabbath.

Any record that leads off with Dick Vitale's ubiquitous jabberings is asking for trouble, and this third volume in the Jock Jams series is musically ill-equipped to pull out of the ensuing tailspin. The collection of inoffensive rap songs and R&B-tinged dance numbers does have a few highlights. KC and the Sunshine Band's "That's the Way I Like It," regardless of what sort of material it shares company with here, is a classic, and Blackstreet kick out a decent rhyme with Dr. Dre on "No Diggity." On the whole, it might even make a passable soundtrack for an aerobics class. Besides that, however, you'll have to swim through a lot of musical filler and testosterone-driven flotsam to find anything that rises above an overwhelming and acute mediocrity. --Matthew Cooke

1 out of 5 stars Jock Jams.......2007-02-04

Anyone who pays full price for this is gonna be pissed. Name one Jock who listens to this crap. I just can't imagine professional athletes listening to Da' Dip on their way to a game. I think these CD's should not be taken seriously because they are way too funny to be for real.

5 out of 5 stars great.......2005-10-17

I love this CD, i work the score board at my brothers hockey games and i plan to use these song during the warm-ups.

5 out of 5 stars Non-Stop Fun!.......2001-04-14

Jock Jams Volume 3 is quite possibly the best in the series. It stars off with Dick Vitale's It's Awesome Baby speech, which kicks right into Tribal Dance by 2Unlimited (Remember them?) which is full of energy. Right after that is Republica's super hit Ready To Go and Tito Nieves's I Like It Like That, which is definately a classic. Quad City DJs have made it on to most dance compilations, and this one is no exception. C'Mon Ride The Train is one of the best songs on the album. Freak Nasty provides a pretty good track that is a combination of dance and rap. Crush provides yet another dance classic with Jellyhead, and then Blackstreet gives us their hit No Diggity with Dr. Dre. The next few tracks however are nothing exceptional until you hit Livin' Joys song Don't Stop Moving, which is as close to perfect as you can get. Then Rednex performs a strange combination of country and dance on Cotton Eye Joe, followed by a great Jock Jam megamix, which features many other popular songs at that time which didn't make the compilation. The album ends with Ray Castoldi's chicken dance. Overall, this is a very fun album that works well for parties.

4 out of 5 stars Wham! Bam! Slam! It's Awesome, Baby!.......2000-08-02

Jock Jams Volume 3 is one good album. It will definately get you pumped up.

Every song on this album gets my blood pumping. Hearing Dick Vitale first just set me up for the rest of this fast cd. "C'mon & Ride It," "I Like It Like That," and "That's the Way I Like It" are probably the three most well-known singles, but other great songs like "Da' Dip" and the thunderous "Tribal Dance" make this album super.

This album has something for everybody on it. Ending with "The Chicken Dance" was classic. This album is a great buy with 22 tracks on it, and it more than satisfies you with fast pumping entertainment. What are you waiting for? "Don't Stop, Get It, Get It!"

2 out of 5 stars It REALLY gets on your nerves!.......2000-02-27

My sister got this cd and she plays it all the time. It gets soooo annoying. I was sick of it the second time I heard it. The only reason I even gave it 2 stars is because it is good to make up gymnastics routines to. But other than that it is a TOTAL waste of money!

5 out of 5 stars Wanna learn to dance, try me..........2007-06-11

I'll only review a few songs
~ Christina Aguilera "Hurt" (Deeper-Mindset Full On Club Mix)
---This song goes beyond Christinas talent, makes her music seem cool, for a trance trip hop lover of music like me. The lyricks are possibly about her dead father, kinda depressing, yet one can get into it.
~ Hilary Duff "With Love" (Richard Vission vs. Dave Aude Club Mix)
---Hilary's voice is plain, (nothing like Karen Overton, who is fantastic) but this mix is totally Hot.
~ Jewel "Intuition" (Gabriel & Dresden Hi-Tek Digital Mix)
---One of the better mixes i've heard lately!!! Well done, and Jewl has a great voice.
~September "Cry For You " (Radio Edit)
---Everyone must listen to this song, good trance balot, and neat words, to a good voice.
~Karen Overton "Your Loving Arms" (Damien Heck Remix)
---Where would my speakers be with out this song.... burning... this is the best song ever written. its CHOICE!!
~Bump "I'm Rushing" (Dave Spoon Vocal Mix)
Good voice, nice trance.

PLease see the value in 24 songs for $15, and considering thats better then $1 each on itunes.

I love most of the songs on this album, and they can make one move well, try dancing in a mirror to them, get some good moves mastered!

5 out of 5 stars FINALLY!!!!!.......2007-05-21

I LOVE THIS CD SET!!! finally a collection of songs you know and hear on the radio. in the club. or even watch the videos for on MTV or VH1 are in a collection of the dance mixes. one: they are hard to find mixes. not on the import or maxi singles, well some of them are, but alot of them are only on promo singles u can only get on ebay. two: they are awesome dance mixes, not long trance mixes with hardly any vocals like a dub mix. three: NON-Stop fast music, nothing slows down the music. this is the summer dance album. one of the best i have heard in a while. I actually stopped buying dance compilations. cause the songs were songs i had never heard of, and when i did didnt care for. but this is sooo worth it, only thing missing is Kim Sozzi's new ad number 1 single 'Break Up.' this is a collection you will love. buy it!!!!

Perfect for athletes--budding, established, weekend, or even armchair. The Jock Jams series (along with the Jock Rock and Slam Jams series) collects top hits in their most danceable, groove-shaking format--perfect for a workout or a party where you want to feel like you're at a stadium. There's plenty to like here: Puff Daddy's toe- tapping, posthumous tribute to Biggie Smalls, "Mo Money Mo Problems"; the annoyingly catchy "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" from the Backstreet Boys; Fatboy Slim's wicked nick of the riff from the Who's "I Can't Explain" on "Going Out of My Head." There's even some fun vintage Jock Jams tracks, such as Salt 'N Pepa's "Push It" and House of Pain's "Jump Around." Still, who would have thought that a song with the refrain "pissing the night away" would end up as a jock anthem? Certainly not Chumbawamba, even though "Tubthumping" makes an appearance here. The world moves in mysterious ways. --Randy Silver

5 out of 5 stars FUN!!!.......2001-05-13

I love CDs with continuos mixing, and this is no exception. You've got all the coolest pop, dance and rap hits on one collection. The highlight is Going Out Of My Head by one of my favorite artists Fatboy Slim. You also get Everybody (Backstreet's Back) by Backstreet Boys, One More Night by the amazing Amber, mainstream hip-hop anthems such as Raise The Roof and Gettin' Jiggy With It, and the collection even goes Old School with House Of Pain's Jump Around. Who would have thought Quad City DJs could have made it onto yet another party collection? They did though, with the incredibly catchy Space Jam. Another great song is the 2 Unlimited Megamix which contains all of their biggest hits. If you like the music that they play at stadiums, or you just are looking for an instant party, this is definately the CD for you.

4 out of 5 stars Great for Cheering!.......2000-04-05

I'm on a cheerleading/dance squad, and we used about four or five songs on this cd for our half time routines for football and basketball season. It's great to use for performances, stretching, or just for fun.

5 out of 5 stars Jock Jams Vol.4.......2000-01-02

This is my favorite Jock Jams! It is so up beat! The Son of Jock Jams is my ultimate favorite mix. My pom-pon squad used it as one of our dances, and got the most intrest and attention from people! It is truly a great cd!

5 out of 5 stars Jock Jams4 special review.......1999-12-24

I think this is a great cd. For people who are into this type of music. I think it was probably the best Jock Jams CD yet. If you like Jock Jams or Jock Rock or slam Jams you'll definately love this CD. Some cool songs: were in my opinion: Gettin' Jiggy With it, Backstreet's back, space jam, unlimited megajam, though most of the songs were great.

4 out of 5 stars jock jams vol.four from my point of view.......1999-12-20

The mix was good but not better than the first one,the mega jam was great ive never heard of one till then and i thought it was awesome baby with a capital A.But i want to know why they dont use slam jams songs in the mixes,or jock rock vol.one songs?.I think putting oldies, and some country songs stirs the cd up and makes it better. And,heres a thought maybe add some Reggae it might make the mixes sound better,or even the cd.I liked slam jams vol.one maybe use some of those songs on new jock jams as i see they did on jock rock 2000:elvis costello-pump it up.Keep adding:Fatboy Slim all my friends and i like him.

4 out of 5 stars nice.......2007-05-27

First time i bought a mixed cd -with different artists- that have so many good numbers on it :-) I recomend this cd to all roots listeners.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-05-14

If you are a lover of rhythm, baseline, and lyrics in your reggae music, this is the album for you. If your taste are for the Dance Hall variety, look elsewhere. Finally an album which show cases the beauty of reggae music. I am still getting goose bumps each time I play some of thee tracks on the album. Much respect to the artists and the compiler(s) of this album; it will live on my shuttle for a long time.

5 out of 5 stars Tightly reccommended!.......2007-03-09

From a casual sunday reggae listener's perspective, I have to say that this 2006 compilation and the other 2005 one are both top notch recordings. The mix of voices and tempos flow well and you can groove through the whole set without even thinking about hitting the skip button. Respect to the first two reviewers, thanks for taking the time.

5 out of 5 stars EXTRA CREDIT.......2006-10-04

BIGGEST REGGAE ONE DROP ANTHEMS 2006: Credit is definitely due to Greensleeves for this year's edition of the ONE DROP ANTHEMS series. You might have expected nothing more than a glorified run through of the label's recent roots releases, but that's not the case at all. There are certainly a few album tracks included here, but it's a good selection, and includes Jah Mason's great herb anthem, COUPLE CHALICE A DAY, Fantan Mojah's fantastic combination with Jah Cure, NUH BUILD GREAT MAN on Down Sound's SWEET SOP rhythm (better known as Nanko's massive LUCKY YOU), and Natural Black's bubbling NICE IT NICE from his recent FAR FROM REALITY long player.

Aside from these, Greensleeves has sourced a very solid collection of roots rockers, kicking off with Marlon Asher's huge GANJA FARMER, and then taking an extended tour of some of the biggest roots rhythms of the year - and yes, one or two from last year as well. For starters, Donovan Bennett's follow up to the DROP LEAF and SEASONS rhythms, HEAVENLY, gets a couple of very welcome airings, with Richie Spice's sweet BROWN SKIN narrowly outclassing Alaine's HEAVENLY. Chuck Fender gets mad on GASH DEM, and then gets even with FREEDOM OF SPEECH, a pointed response to the controversy surrounding his original cut (sorry, cheap joke) on the great CONFESSIONS rhythm. Elsewhere, there are four contributions from young Windel Edwards, a.k.a. Gyptian, ranging from the excellent combination with Dwayne on RUDE BOY SHUFFLIN, to the decent herb song SENSI, to the rather so-so RISE & LIVE, and including the Vertex-produced BEAUTIFUL LADY, a great lovers number which was also included on his recent VP album, MY NAME IS GYPTIAN. Other highlights come from the incredible Bitty McLean doing what he does best on THE REAL THING - i.e. taking us back twenty, thirty years with his pitch-perfect, old-time reggae vibes - as well as Anthony Cruz's great summer serenade, HALFWAY TREE, and Ras Shiloh channeling the spirit of the immortal Garnet Silk directly to vinyl on the classic-sounding RASTAMAN UP IN THE HILLS. I also have to make special mention of the moving HOLY WORDS, which marks a welcome return to form for Warrior King, here in combination with deejay Bescenta - really nice, mellow tune.

If there are any complaints to be made, I would have to question one or two of the selections here. For instance, there are better vocals on Wayne Morris's ISTANBUL rhythm than Bounty's GANGSTER LOVE (like Teflon's superb GET UP & STRIVE for a start, or Kartel's SOCIETY, or Mojah's FRIENDS), but Jah Cure's WHAT WILL IT TAKE and Natural Black's LIFE BE THE SAME WAY are two of the best, and two out of three is a reasonable return. It's the same problem with Sizzla's strange take on Kevin Blake's ROSE APPLE rhythm, SHOW A LITTLE LOVE. There's a nice vocodered chorus, but he sounds half asleep on the verses - Anthony B (BUN DAT), Lutan Fyah (NOTHING WITHOUT LOVE), Roundhead (MY HEMPIRE) and Sanchez (BAD MIND) all recorded better vocals on this nice roots rhythm. Aside from these minor slip-ups, and one or two less than stellar inclusions here and there, BIGGEST REGGAE ONE DROP ANTHEMS 2006 is an essential collection, and as Bramoi rightly points out, great value for money. At US$14.00 for 40 tracks - that's about 35 cents a song - you really can't go wrong. It's certainly a lot more economical, not to mention accessible, than a big stack of forty fives. So, even though it's more of a four star selection, I'm adding points for the package as a whole, and recommending this one without reservation.

4 out of 5 stars WELCOME BACK!. . . .......2006-09-27

I look at the One Drop anthems album now as a reward for the thousands and thousands of us who stuck by and supported Greensleeves for the last few years as they seemingly lost all direction and good taste and went completely MADD releasing riddim albums, rarely releasing an artist's album, despite always having at least 4 on the payroll and dozens more worthy of an album with no deal. They pounded these albums constantly, even after losing their top producer, Lenky, who despite having a publishing deal with GS, chose to provide more albums for competitor VP's Riddim Driven series. Then there were the countless compilations full of the same songs, the riddim albums, the Ragga Ragga Ragga and the Biggest Dancehall Anthems albums all chose from the same lot of tunes! The only thing you really looked forward to those years was a Sizzla album, which was the only definite.

Until last year, when they either hired some new blood or actually took a trip over here and noticed that even more popular than their beloved dancehall was the well powerful roots sounds. The result is a steady stream of roots album releases, still a steady, but streamlined dancehall presence (with now only 3 active dancehall signees, Vybz Kartel, Macka Diamond and Busy Signal, as Ward 21 'ESCAPED' and NO ONE knows whats happening with either Predator or Kurrupt) and increased popularity and sales for their albums. Which means if you're looking for a record company to dislike, head on over to see what's going on with Jet-Star recently.

To go along with the swing, they've released the second installment of the Biggest One Drop Anthems album and the world is a better place because of it. Although they chose what is turning out to be reggae day '06 as both GS and VP have released 3 albums on the exact same day, competing not only against each other but themselves as well for your money! With the exception of Gyptian's debut, this was the album I most looked forward to however today, always wonderful when I can pay $13 US for 40 songs! I LOOK FORWARD TO IT!

The first cd here is probably the more solid of the two, there are lulls in the second, however, what it lacks, the first more than makes up for. The highlight on the second, starting there, is without a doubt the lovely Alaine! Her Jah Jah Cry is amongst the album's best altogether. Also check the downright MASSIVE Rastaman in the Hills by Ras Shiloh! Welcome back Mr Shiloh, if Greensleeves is smart, they have a Shiloh album (and a Bushman album) planned for the before the end of 2006.

Also check on disc #2 Chuck Fender's nice Freedome of Speech, the reaction to his own tune, Gash Dem, from disc one. Jah Mason on the nice Couple Chalice a Day from his new album Wheat and Tears and of course Sizzla, with his best offering here being Chant Dem Down, which i believe was missed on his most recent album for GS, Waterhouse Redemption. Also, Richie Spice's super wicked Brown Skin.

Did I mention that the first disc was better though? The easy best tune here, even amongst the killers on the disc and even though its going on 3 years old is Marlon Asher's epoch Ganja Farmer. I've heard that song roughly a billion times and each time it gets better, and check out his debut album, Locked Out, as well, just a big tune! Taking one of my biases out of the equation and subbing another, the second best tune on disc one is by. . .? Of course! Ms Alaine, over the Heavenly riddim with the priceless Heavenly. The woman just has a vibe soooooooooooooo strong and I'm definitely happy she's on the scene to stay.

Check out Chuck Fenda on the aforementioned Gash Dem, controversial tune going around. Check Equal Share which I believe missed the cut on Lutan Fyah's GS album, Phantom War, very nice tune. The overanimated Perfect getting his point across on the nice Nah Badda Mi and Mr Vegas on Do You Know from his new album Constant Spring. And of course general show stealer Bitty Mclean on his The Real Thing, typical magic old school sound from Bitty.

Two of the more interesting tracks from disc one are Gangster Lover from surprise entrant Bounty Killer. The song works so well here over the Istanbul riddim. And one of my favorite tunes from the entire project, Holy Words! Holy words is MASSIVE! A nice combination between young chanters, the unestablished but impressive Bescenta and of course the big man Warrior King, just a very very nice song.

Overall, I always have to reccomend these albums. With 40 tracks strong over 2 discs and no increased price, if you enjoy roots reggae music, there will be something in here which will be worth the price of admission for you definitely. It will introduce you to a few new artists worth looking out for, give you a taste of some of the bigger hits, and of course roll out some of the biggest names making some of the biggest vibes in the world.
