Strong Arm of the Law.......2007-07-24
This is my favorite SAXON Lp/Cd ever released by the band
This is Saxon at their finest and they were strong here, They still are in 2007, however this era has a special place in my heart as this LP was one of the earliest lp's that really played NWOBHM at its finest
Its a must buy for any hard rock fan
Classic Rock.......2007-05-15
Great album. If you don't know Saxon at this time, then why are you here? For me, this album and 'Wheels of Steel' are it. This is what I call European metal. Its raw, edgy, and just some sweet rock and roll. Pass the bowl.

Customer Reviews:
Great CD.......2007-07-12
I only give 5 stars if I love every song on a CD. With that being said, four stars is a must-have in my book. This CD rocks. Saxon was and is one of those bands that is very underated. A Heavy Metal fan will appreciate this band. If you like Sabbath, if you like old Rainbow (Dio Years), if you like Motorhead, you will like Saxon. My favorite song is Dallas 1PM especially when they break into the radio recording of JFK's assassination. I also like 20000 feet, Heavy Metal Thunder, Strong Arm of the Law, Hungry Years, Wheels of Steel, and To Hell And Back Again
If you are looking for a commercial band, don't look here because Biff Byford and the boys get down in the dirt and rock.
Good deal for a great underrated metal band.......2006-07-13
Like their counterparts UFO, Britain's Saxon gained a healthy cult audience in the US but never quite broke big, ala Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, although they should have, as this double disc testifies.
Like other bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Saxon featured a duel guitar lineup, with ripping leads courtesy of Paul Quinn and Biff Byford's classic voice, not to mention lyrical variety uncommon to most metal bands.
"Wheels Of Steel" is classic metal, harder than early '70's metal with the exception of Sabbath, and a harbinger of the Bay area thrash that was soon to come.
"Strong Arm of The Law" shows off some blues roots (Hungry Years, title track, a nifty chord progression in "Taking Your Chances" and prototypical thrash metal in "Hell And Back Again" and "20,000 Feet."
That this outfit is still around is a credit to their craft and makes one wonder why they didn't bust the US wide open. It's our loss.
Two of their defining moments .......2006-06-10
I think most people will agree that this is the "classic" Saxon sound. They were finding their feet on their debut "Saxon" but with their second album Wheels Of Steel they really managed to hone their sound into something timeless. The following album Denim And Leather was excellent as well, and they capped off their winning streak with the high energy The Eagle Has Landed Live Album.
However in response to a reviewer below who said that everything after 1984s Crusader album was garbage, I don't really agree. From 1985s Innocence Is No Excuse up to and including 1992s Forever Free they have a bit more polished sound, generally less exciting songs but overall the albums from that period have about a 50/50 split between good songs and weaker songs. To me though they've staged a real comeback satarting with 1995s Dogs Of War. The songs are harder although they still have hooks and melodies without encroaching into their late 1980s pop metal phase.
Personally I like most phases Saxon, including their more "pop metal" phase, but I understand that not everyone may feel that way. If you prefer rawer, more headbanging rock then this Wheels Of Steel/ Strong Arm Of The Law double pack is probably your best introduction to Saxon. I could also recommend anything from 1995 onwards too if you like the basic Saxon sound;
Dogs Of War -1995 (although still a bit of the pop-metal evident)
Unleash The Beast-1997 (with darker themes)
Metalhead-1999
Killing Ground-2001
Lionheart-2004
STRAIGHT FORWARD HEAVY METAL!!.......2003-12-19
This is the band that put straight , raw metal in your face and best part is they know how to play. These are two of the best cd's put out by saxon along with the eagle has landed live.So if your tiered of d tuned garbage, go back to the old school of classic metal and buy this cd.
Stron Arm of the Law.......2003-04-28
Strong arm of the law is excellent album, if you like 80's metal. It's a classic. Very listenable and solid. Wheels of Steel is OK.
I give Strong Arm a 4. Wheels of steel is more like a 2.5 as far as I'm concerned.
But Strong Arm the Law is very hard to find, so basically Wheels is like the "free bonus CD" included in the package.

SAXON AT THEIR ZENITH.......2001-09-21
Both albuns featured here aare masterpieces of early British hevay metal. Band line-up: Peter (Biff) Byford - vocals; Paul Quinn - guitar; Graham OLiver - guitar; Steve Dawson - b; Pete Gill - drums.
The Pinnacle of British Heavy Metal.......2001-07-30
this is very basic heavy metal, but the songs are great. if u liek more complex metal i suggest late 90s saxon. this is early 80s hard rock/metal. its raw and it is the sort of thing that if u heard live would make u headbang so much!!

Customer Reviews:
For the first time in my life, I am ashamed..........2004-08-19
...of Americans. These ignorant reviewers have no idea what they are talking about. The song order on this CD is the proper song order, as it appeared in 1980 on the original UK release. It was changed for the US release in 1982. Get your facts straight people, and get yourself educated, before you make a horses *** out of yourself again. As for the music, Saxon was at their peak here and this is a must have for any NWOBHM fan.
Where's the REVERB???.......2002-05-20
The (2nd to last) previous poster has it right on! I was disappointed that this cd was "remastered." I used to listen to my album years ago and the drum intro of Dallas 1pm sounded fantastic - just the right amount of reverb. Now, it sounds as if someone merely transferred the dry master tracks without ANY effects! Yes, the songs are still great, but
the production took a HUGE step backwards - a pity. And the track re-ordering is another snafu.... Dallas 1pm at the end??? WHY???
One of the greatest albums throughout the history of H.M........2000-01-26
Strong Arm of the Law is one of the greatest heavy metal albums ever. All metal fans should appreciate this reissue as a CD. I have no idea what these two guys are talking about regarding the song order. As far as I know, the orginal release in 1980 in UK and in Japan had the exactly the same song order as this reissue. (You can check on any Saxon website that what I am saying is true!) I guess, US release may have had a different song order. A must for any true metal fans!
Viva Saxon!
Disappointing Remaster.......1999-11-10
I have to agree with the reviewer from Grenada. This is a disappointing CD. My biggest gripe is the song order. Luckily my US release cassette still plays! And for the sound quality...Dallas 1PM sounds like it was recorded in a small sterile studio. The original version sounded like it was recorded in a big dirty warehouse with a big fat sound. Especially on the drum intro. All of the reverb is gone. I only gave it 2 stars because if you HAVE to have it on CD, then you have to have it.
Bloody Awful Remaster.......1999-09-10
Hey guys, I used to own an original vinyl recording of Strong Arm of The Law, and my suggestion is - DO NOT BUY THIS IMPORT!!! Not only did they screw up the sound quality (the "crack" of the rifle shots in Dallas 1PM are reduced to dull whimpers), but some moron decided to re-do the track order, thoroughly messing up the cohesiveness of the recording.
The original track order was as follows:
Dallas 1PM; Strong Arm of The Law; 6th Form Girls; Hungry Years
Heavy Metal Thunder;
Taking Your Chances; To Hell and Back Again; 20,000 FT.
The order on the remaster is:
Heavy Metal Thunder; To Hell and Back Again; Strong Arm of The Law; Taking Your Chances
20,000 FT; Hungry Years; Sixth Form Girls; Dallas 1PM
Now tell me, what kind of brain-dead moron would squeeze "Strong Arm of The Law" between "To Hell and Back Again" and "Taking Your Chances"? And move a track like "Dallas 1PM" to the END of the recording?
Jeez - avoid at all costs. If you really HAVE to get it, at least program your CD player to play it in the original track order. And invest in a good equalizer, because the sound quality sucks.
