Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars A collection of mediocre songs.......2002-10-10

This album is a congolmerate of a few songs by the Ataris and a foriegn band called Useless ID. It seems as though the Ataris simply dug some disposable old tunes out of the closet and just threw them on here to make a quick buck. None of the material really stands out as anything worth listening to, and fails miserably in comparison with the usually enjoyable, melodic emo/rock crafted by these guys. Addtitionally, the recording quality on each song is not up to past standards. Useless ID is a band that offers nothing that hasn't been done before, and bares an eerie similarity to almost every melodicore band, especially No Use for a Name. Their songs are forgettable at best. In the booklet, it is stressed that "a new ataris album is coming real soon", thus proving that this is simply FILLER. There is really no point in purchasing this album unless you are an avid Ataris or Useless ID collector/fan, because it truly is a sub-par listening experience.

4 out of 5 stars An album mostly for fans.......2002-05-10

When you take one of the most talented emo/pop-punk bands around today and combine them with up coming pop-punkers what do you get? You get "Let it burn", a split between Kung-Fu label mates The Ataris and Useless ID. And while this is overall a good album it does have it's positive and negative points.

The Ataris kick it off with "The radio...", a hilarious track especially for anyone against mainstream music. Reaching back to their punk roots The Ataris pull off several other gems such as "Blue skies...", "Let it burn" and an acoustic version of "San dimas...". Now I know this a split album, so you come to expect shorter tracks, but The Ataris half wraps up in about 12 minutes which will leave many fans with an empty feeling.

The Israeli band, Useless ID steps up to the plate next with an impressive effort and some great songs. Be sure to check out tracks like "Too dad...", "Have a nice life" & "Lost".

Unfortunately folks the time has come for me to bring up a few gripes I have with this album. First off, sound quality on a few songs is questionable, especially on "San dimas..." in which Chris Roe almost sounds like hes singing from another room. This was a big let down to say the least, due to the fact this album isn't a bootleg, but an official release. You would think because you're shelling out your hard earned dollars Kung-Fu would at least attempt to remaster some of the songs.

In the end there are some things to consider before heading out to buy "Let it burn". If you haven't heard anything from The Ataris or Useless ID prior to purchasing this album you might find yourself dissapointed. Like I mentioned, this is the type of album that will appeal to fans mostly.

Overall a pretty solid album from two very solid bands, fans of The Ataris and/or Useless ID shouldn't miss out on this.

5 out of 5 stars Burning With Greatness.......2002-01-28

This is a great cd. I do have to say though even though The*Ataris are my favorite band....the Useless I.D. half is much better. This cd has over 10 tracks so it is not considered an EP. Most of The Useless I.D. songs are less than two minutes, which is a total downer. Id have to say the best song on this cd is by The * Ataris,How I Spent My Summer Vacation. The songs "The Radio Still Sucks"(Ataris) and "Too Bad You DOnt Get It" are truley great pop punk gemss, which also are featured on the V/A Compilation "Short Music For Short People". I have to say that this Ataris/Useless I.D. split is well worth the money.
PEACE OUT

3 out of 5 stars good but confusing.......2001-12-30

this is a real great cd but there are some confusing aspects to it.First off it says on the back that Useless ID do a cover of The Beatles' "Something" however track 16 is only 4 second long with nothing on it. Also it is 96 tracks (mostly just blank space) and then when it does reach track 96 the song doesn't start till a minute or so into the song.also i think it's an Ataris song not Something.Besides that it is a great cd with awesome songs that should have been considered to be put on their album.

4 out of 5 stars decent.......2001-09-07

Its okay, the useless id songs are better than the ataris songs. I actually had never heard of them before and I think I may like them better than the ataris even though the ataris still rule. my advice is if your a diehard ataris fan, dont get this cd cause you'll be dissapointed. its not the new ataris cd. however, if your a punk fun, you might like the useless id songs. my favs are #9, 12, and 13. useless id are a talented group with raw sounds. take a chance and you may enjoy this cd. other favorite bands are midtown, nfg, craigs brother, fenix tx, less than jake, and op ivy.

5 out of 5 stars WEEEIIIIIRD !!!!!!!!!!.......2004-01-08

Unlike their 2 first soloist albums, this one goes somewhat
in the direction of the remixes eps for the second album,
only in a much less percussive or funkier way.The sound here is 99% INDUSTRIAL,this is Ministry on acid. We're talking about a highly aggressive, nervous wrecking, mind
grinding sound here. The uniqueness of this completely experimental album is the fact Gregg drop the style after
this one to form the more hardcore, more convential GONE.
I love this stuff.Even when at first it might sound cacophonic,
well it is very extreme music.CAUTION:Only for the really
insane !!!!!

4 out of 5 stars A wholly underrated guitarist!.......2000-03-19

I've been a fan of Ginn's guitar playing since his Black Flag days. With this, his third solo album in a little over a year's time (plus two Gone albums), Ginn has proved that he hasn't lost his touch as a guitar god! The sound mix could be a little better but this is the best of his three solo albums.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds like Scott Hill?.......2006-02-09

Uh, mmm, yeah; it is Scott Hill you doofus. Nebula is Scott Hill's side project.

This album does not suck. If doom sound with Southern CA lyrical content (chicks, cars, bikes, boards, etc) is your thang then not only is Nebula for you, but Scott Hill's main band Fu Manchu, is for you too.

If this album (or any album for that matter) sounds muddy, you need to turn the bass down (just a wee bit) and the volume up or just get a better stereo that can handle all of the many frequencies created when we play a little frigging rock and roll.

People who want to be depressed by music and think that rock and roll means cutting yourself and wearing make up need not even try listening to this high quality good ol' American hard rock.

    That is all.

    4 out of 5 stars Stoner rock?INDEED!!.......2005-06-11

Nebula is one of those bands that should be much bigger than they are.True, they do have a loyal following of stoner rock and doomheads, but outside of Cathedral and Black Sabbath fans,Nebula is largely unheard of.Let It Burn is a rare album just because it has the sort of down in the pants boogie you just don't find in today's artists at large. For a debut release, this is about as close to flawless as I would most likely ever hear.Truly not a bad tune in the bunch, and enough attitude to keep me interested. Not bad fellas, not bad indeed.41/2 stars.Just keep that hard rock a'comin.

1 out of 5 stars shoulda bought CHROME LOCUST (...).......2001-12-14

This is an amature wannabe blue cheer knock off that sounds contrived. The CHROME LOCUST record is what this album wants to be.

4 out of 5 stars This CD smokes!.......2001-06-03

Awesome debut mini-album from 2 ex-members of acclaimed stoner rockers (I hate that name, so from here on out, I will not use the genre term) Fu Manchu.

The fuzzed-out swirling and furious guitars of Eddie Glass are most prevalent here, making every track almost too enjoyable to listen to! There ain't a bad tune in the bunch (though my copy doesn't have the extra tracks), and "Down the Highway" and "Let it Burn" are the biggest and baddest of the 6 contained here. Also of particular note is "Elevation," which is a completely rocking opener. Eddie also takes on the vocal chores here, and unlike other reviewers, I like 'em. Hill from the abovementioned Manchu'ers he ain't, but that's ok. Nebula has carved out their own little niche in this growing retro-rock genre, and this is merely the starting point for it.

The only downpoint for me, and the reason this is 4, not 5 stars, is the way too long Zeppelin ripoff "Raga in the Bloodshot Pyramid." It's cool for about 90 seconds, then it's 4 minutes too long. Eh, 5 out of 6 ain't bad at all.

If you dig this album (like I do), go get charged. Nebula becomes immaculate.

    4 out of 5 stars Not quite 5 stars.......2001-02-11

Two problems with this CD: First it sounds like it was recorded on a casette deck, the quality of the sound is too muddy. This in turn leads to problem two: get someone that can sing, maybe the quality of the recording makes the vocals sound weak but the vocals sound strained. I'm not a stickler for singing ability but its weak. Also don't try to sound like Scott Hill because when you do it reveals your limitations. I will say it was a good effort , I just keep thinking how good this CD could have been.

5 out of 5 stars Great, upbeat melodic punk rock.......2007-01-19

This is one of those cds cover that you see, and it does nothing to convince you to listen to it. Probably one of the worst I have ever seen, it evokes thoughts of a terrible, euro-goth band. But don't let this fool you, it does not take away from the music within. Actually, this is an upbeat, youthful-sounding, energetic melodic punk band. This New Jersey band formed after the breakup of Full Speed Ahead. They reminds me of a cross between No Use For A Name and Lower Class Brats. They have it all, great, fast guitar solos that aren't showy, great vocals, and the lyrics aren't too shabby either. And yes, there is an Elton John cover song on here, 'Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting', and it rocks, sounds very 80's old school, I love it. The song 'Twenty-One' is one of my favorites on here, a little bit of a darker vibe than some of the others, reminds me maybe of some fast Jawbreaker, the guitar lines are just the best. "People change/they fall apart/Is it true that nothing lasts forever/I wish we could put it back together/things were easier when you were young/cant get back when your 21" Considering I had absolutely no knowledge of this band at all, it is a great listen, and I always get really into it while listening. Check this band out if you love fast, melodic punk. (By the way, I kept trying to rate this album 4 stars, but it won't let me!)
