Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Speak for yourself, love!.......2004-08-08

This is the third volume of uncensored crank calls from the Crank Yankers TV show. How is this volume different from the first two volumes? This one is in stereo! This time around, the caller is in the left speaker and the person answering the phone is in the right speaker. Other than that, it's much the same as the other two CDs. Funny crank phone calls by hilarious characters like Special Ed, Hadassah Guberman, Elmer Higgins, Niles Standish, Dick Birchum and Gladys Murphy. If you are a fan of crank phone calls, you should enjoy this.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.......2004-01-09

This C.D. is funny the first time on a couple of tracks, but then it is all boring

I would suggest not buying this because it is a one time only C.D.
But, it was O.K.

3 out of 5 stars Crank yankers rating.......2003-12-27

I think Crank yankers is absolutely hillarious. I give a lot of credit to the comics involved in the series. I think they are all talented. I do wish, however, that they would invent more episodes with the older guy, I think his name is Elmer. The best episodes are with him.

2 out of 5 stars Hang up these puppets..........2003-06-10

Not only are the crankers not nearly as funny as they were on the first two installments, but the people being cranked aren't either. What makes Volume 3 so boring and UNfunny is the fact that most of the people who are called sound so unammusingly annoyed, not really willing to participate on any level at all. The irrate people just sound bothered and the clueless people sound irritatingly stupid. Even the "puppets" have problems here, being more crass and ruder than is required to be effectively funny. Perfect examples are Bircham's humorless tirade while calling for employment and Jimmy Kimmel's bratty-sounding kids calling a bowling alley with the age old prank (think about it). I kind of felt sorry for the guy on the other end of the phone who was really too dumb to figue out what was going on with these two snots. So while the first two volumes are fun to be had by all, this one is a snoozer. And I do agree with the reviewer prior to me: This should have been a DVD of the skits on Vols 1 & 2.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD, wicked funny.......2003-05-04

you should definetly by this cd, this one is bettr then vol.1 and 2.This is a wicked good cd, they should come out with a crank yankers dvd.

4 out of 5 stars Do you feel me? I feel you!.......2004-08-05

How is this CD different from the first Crank Yankers CD? This one features the theme song by Fountains of Wayne! Other than that, it is much the same as the first Crank Yankers CD. Funny crank phone calls! Hilarious characters like Hadassah Guberman, Niles Standish, Elmer Higgins, Spoonie Luv and Special Ed! If you are a fan of crank phone calls, you will dig this CD.

5 out of 5 stars ... Slapping Good Time.......2003-06-03

If the first cd couldn't be funnier, the second cd comes out twice as strong. Crank Yankers Vol. 2, def. makes its mark in the comedy world for sure. I just hope a DVD could come out of these as well to make this awesome collection complete.

5 out of 5 stars Funniest Thing Since Vol.1!.......2003-04-01

Shoulda Sent It Sooner!, Pee Delivery, And Hallmark Cards were my favorite tracks but this whole cd is funny. I thought this would be a toned down addition to volume 1 but this cd is a lot funnier than the first! Tracy Morgan is great with his Spoonie Luv "Don't change" "I feel you" funny as hell! I hurt my sides just laughing hysterically from the second track to the last with Florentine as Special Ed "I'm going to Hawaii yeahhhhhhh!"
A must have!

5 out of 5 stars awesome cd.......2002-11-22

i just bought this cd yesterday. personally i think it is better than some adam sandler stuff. as soon as i heard track 12 "Pee Delivery" i started laughing so hard i thought i was going to pass out. elmer is the best ever. and track 7 "Shoulda Sent It Sooner" is also very funny it is by the touch-tone terrorist. if you love crank yankers good prank calls and comedy i highly recommend this cd!

5 out of 5 stars rockin' soundtrack..........2006-11-10

Loved the movie, loved the soundtrack even more. Hearing the songs i remember from the 80's put into a hard core movie like this was such a trip. Takes me back to the good old days. :)

The big bonus on the cd is actual clips from the movie before certain songs. Though the sticker on the cd told you about the snippets from the movie it still was so unexpected.

great job to the producers and everyone who put this great soundtrack together!

1 out of 5 stars Huge waste of money.......2004-11-29

I can't believe I sat and watched the entire season for maybe 3-4 calls that were good.

1 out of 5 stars It would be a 5 but..........2004-10-09

I used to love the Crank Yankers... for about one episode. At the end of the episode I realized THEY'RE A POOR COPY OF THE JERKY BOYS!!! This is pretty good if you're addicted to prank calls, but I highly suggest that you buy the first two Jerky Boys albums as well and just compare the quality for yourself.

3 out of 5 stars By far the funniest out of the 3.......2004-08-29

This is the funniest album out of the 3 of them. From Niles Standish, to Bobby Fletcher, this CD will bring you joy. One of the best $20 I ever spent. A must have for any Crank Yankers fan. If you are not, you jusy have to take a little bit of time to get used to the humor. Once you are used to it, you will ike it.

4 out of 5 stars Come one, come all!.......2004-07-11

This is the first collection of real crank phone calls taken from the Crank Yankers television show. The TV show uses puppets to reenact the calls, but since crank calls are inherently an audio form of humor, you don't really need to see the puppets to get the joke. There are a lot of funny recuring characters on the show, and many of them are featured here. We have Gladys Murphy the black housewife, Birchum the crazy Vietnam vet, Spoonie Luv the playah, Cammie the stripper, Niles Standish the perverted British gentleman, Special Ed the retarded guy and others. This is funny stuff. If you enjoy crank phone calls, you should dig it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Yankers.......2004-02-24

The Muppets with a foul mouth . If you loved to do prank phone calls as a child , you'll love this CD . There's lovable characters like Special Ed , the retarded adult , Elmer , a funny old man and my favourite Spoonie Luv played by SNL veteran Tracey Morgan . I also recommend Volume 2&3.

4 out of 5 stars Still good 8 years later.......2007-04-16

This album is still good 8 years after it was released.

Isn't all music emotional?

5 out of 5 stars This is where I make you buy this record...........2006-01-17

There isn't really much to say about this record mostly because it will render you speechless. There is really no point in giving a breakdown of each song as they are all attached to eachother. The songs flow together.... you will look at your player and wont believe that you are at the end of the album, mostly because it's almost as if the album is one song.

Never have I heard an album who's lyrics are just as powerful as the music. Have you ever had a song speak to you? This whole album speaks to you in a way that leaves people breathless. Not only that but women have had orgasms listening to this album. How many bands can do that with every song on an album? Ok, maybe that was a little overboard but seriously, a must have for any music lover.

5 out of 5 stars Please enter a title for your review.......2005-12-09

One of the first emo albums I bought, along with The Get Up Kids' Four Minute Mile, Rainer Maria's Past Worn Searching, and Appleseed Cast's The End Of The Ring Wars. Despite Chris Simpson's denial, Mineral was obviously influenced by Sunny Day Real Estate, but with this album it's like they took the foundation SDRE laid and built a palace on it. These songs with their fragile twinkly jangly harominc melodic guitar would all be ballads if it wasn't for the powerful drumming driving them forward. It's a really unique awesome effect, like Ida with a hardcore drummer. The intricately melodic dual guitar parts are as amazing as the best stuff by Superchunk, Swervedriver, The Jazz June or Hum. When they introduce the occasional distorted guitar parts with their subtle dissonance it's always very powerful.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing........2005-06-27

Truly, "EndSerenading" is an album that epitomizes everything that emo was originally intended to stand for, and while Mineral's soft atmospheres, sparkling choruses and vulnerable lyricism may make this record all too easy to label as such, they make it no less a masterpiece. The stripped-down production here creates an intimacy that has gone unmatched by nearly any release that I have heard since, and Chris Simpson's vocals, while unpolished, are effortlessly delivered and organic; melancholy howls at their loudest, and hardly more than whispers at their softest.

The album's true grace, however, is the poetry that underlies Simpson's delivery and makes it genuinely haunting. "ForIvadell" exemplifies this quality in its closing lamentations, "...but you are safe now and effortlessly breathing, where new weather will fall on you. Now your fears break like waves, foaming into themselves, disappearing into the sea." Similarly powerful material is abundant throughout the album, with other standout tracks being "Palisade," "ALetter," and "&Serenading."

A flawlessly-constructed effort, matched only in the genre by Jimmy Eat World's equally-stunning (and career-defining) "Clarity," in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Everyone will be left wanting more.......2005-04-18

And they won't get it. Unfortunately, Mineral broke up shortly after the release of this album. This is it folks, and we should be glad for what we do have. Luckily, they did live on in the forms of Gloria Record (Chris Simpson and Jeremy Gomez), Pop Unknown (Gabe Wiley), and Imbroco (Sdcott McCarver and Gabe Wiley). Definitely check out all those bands (and my reviews for them). Arlight, onto the album.

Basically what it comes down to is the simple, yet intricate, guitar work on this album makes it. It's amazing. There's nothing else that needs to be said about it.

But that doesn't help you.

"Lovelettertypewriter" opens the album, and is almost reminiscent of tuning guitars. Why would this ever sound good you're asking? Because we get Chris Simpson's beautiful, raw, vocals overtop. Bands don't write like this anymore, and thats sad, because it works, and it works well.

The transition into "Palisade" is unforgettable. It's definitely one of the stand out tracks also. The simple "start-stop" beginning really draws you in as a listener.

Each song could have it's own description, but it's not necessary. All that's necessary it that you do yourself a favor and purchase this album, if just for the song "unfinished" by itself.

4 out of 5 stars a long time between reviews.......2006-11-10

its been a while since this album was reviewed. i came across it while looking for the track 'hot rod lincoln' and discovering that les claypool did a cover. this is a cool album! there's only one or two songs i don't particularly like. i'm from australia so the whole nascar scene is a little alien to me but who doesn't like fast cars and heavy metal! coupled with the fact that i've only just recently seen 'talladega nights' it adds up to a fun experience! highlights for me are type o negatives 'highway star' and les claypools 'hot rod lincoln', naturally.

4 out of 5 stars pretty damn good.......2006-01-21

i hate nascar. i think its for inbred rednecks, but this cd is awesome. the gov't mule song with hetfield from metallica is amazing. slayer, and type o's covers were really good. even if you dont like whatchin hillbillies drive in cricles for 8 hours you should pick up this cd.

Check it out if you're a fan of the track - or if you just like hard rock music of the day!!

KEEP ON RACIN'!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Music Great Theme.......2003-09-07

This CD rocks, it includes the NASCAR on Fox theme song played at the start of every NASCAR Race (on Fox.) It has many fast songs to including rock remakes of Get Out Of My Dreams (Get Into My Car,) Cross Town Traffic, On The Road Again, and Born To Be Wild. And great songs like Circles, Cross the Line, and Drivin' Rain. This cd was recognized by EA Sports with Circles and Get Out Of My Dreams (Get Into My Car) were included on NASCAR Thunder 2003.

5 out of 5 stars CRANK this CD WAY UP!!!.......2002-06-11

This is most definitely a five star album. The energy never stops with hard sounds from a perfect mix of great rock bands. It's hard not to CRANK this CD up! Nonpoint's "Circles" and "See Through" by Staind are a couple of my favorite tracks on the album although it is one of the few CD's I own that I can play straight through. All of the bands are at their best on this compilation and any true hard rock/heavy metal fan (or fan of Nascar at that) will find this to be a killer addition to their collection.

Mylon began his musical career as a child, part of the Southern Gospel group, The Singing LeFevres. At age 16 he wrote the song, "Without Him," a song that went on to be recorded by hundreds of artists. In 1970, Mylon wed his love of gospel with rock music, releasing one of the first Christian Rock albums ('Mylon,' often referred to as 'We Believe'). He released several other albums in the '70s that gradually strayed away from his Christian roots and featured very little spiritual content. The best known of these, 1973's 'On The Road To Freedom,' was recorded with Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) and featured English rock royalty of the time, including George Harrison, Steve Winwood, and Mick Fleetwood. Harrison's composition 'So Sad (No Love of His Own)' is one of the highlights of that album and features his "weeping" slide guitar along with Mylon's soft, soulful vocals. In 1982, after a dramatic recommitment to God, Mylon formed the band Broken Heart and released the album, 'Brand New Start.' Mylon and Broken Heart subsequently performed all over the world, playing to many enthusiastic crowds never before exposed to this type of music.

'Crank It Up' is a good effort with a big '80s sound (though it was released in 1990) and contains the fine non-secular ballad "Give It Away." Nine of the ten tracks were penned by LeFevre and bandmembers. Also included is a nice cover of James Taylor's "Shower the People." Although the album contains no earth-shattering music, there is not a bad song on 'Crank It Up.' - Christian Music Archive/Tim Griggs, AMG

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Beginnings.......2005-05-17

Not only is this album an amazing beginning for the incredible band known as cursive, but it is also an amazing followup to what emo is all about. Think about 1996 when this album came out. The only other emo bands were sunny day real estate, texas is the reason, and mineral(personally i dont count weezer). This band brought alot to the table and continue to make beautiful music to my ears.

4 out of 5 stars "I could get used to this...".......2004-05-27

I know that a lot of people say this in a lot of reviews, but all the other reviewers here don't know what they're talking about. Speaking from a completely unbiased point of view (having never heard "the ugly organist", the album that everyone seems to be comparing THIS one too) this album rocks. Flat out rocks! If you like bands like "At the Drive-In" then you WILL like this. No question. If you hate new radio mainstream rock, you will LOVE this album and everything it represents.

2 out of 5 stars listeners above age 20: pass this one up.......2004-05-07

this album sounds like the radio version of fugazi. bubble gum fugazi. high school punk. their later albums such as "Ugly Organ" and "Burst and Bloom" which are beautiful and original, you can't help but loose your mind over and playing live they ROCK! but this one, sorry kids, is a flop...

5 out of 5 stars This album could change your life........2004-04-18

This is my favorite emo record, for that matter my favorite record of all time. It's full to burst with Tim Kasher's unbridled emotion and musical genius. I can't say enough about how great this album is. Part of me wants me to keep this masterpiece all to myself, but the truth is that you owe it to yourself to buy this album.

2 out of 5 stars not up to par.......2004-01-08

with cursive's other CDs. This is my least favorite album from cursive, I just can't listen to it! I couldnt imagine that was possible after loving the Ugly Organ, Burst and Bloom and Domestica, but this CD just doesnt compare to those other albums.

5 out of 5 stars What a debut.......2002-10-15

The songwriting is honest and emotional yet never cloying or trite. A great album.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!.......1998-10-18

Christine is an amazing artist, performer, and person. I listen to her CDs over and over. She understands women so deeply. You will be thrilled with her beautiful music.

5 out of 5 stars what more could you ask for?.......1998-10-05

A fabulous cd by a fabulous artist. Christine Kane's talent is unquestionable. "This Time Last Year" showcases her phenomenal voice and guitar. Touching, ligthearted, intense, sexy, and funny, this cd is sure to work its way into your stash of favorites!!!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing music, amazing lyrics.......1998-05-05

I honestly believe (and earnestly hope) that Christine Kane is an up-and-comer whose name everyone will know very soon. Her voice, her guitar playing (and that of fellow guitarist Richard Birt), her sheer ability to capture incredible emotion into every song, have caused reviewers to compare her to the Indigos, Shawn Colvin, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. And she's at least as talented as any of these. This album, though somewhat spartan in arrangement, features some truly great songs and while more orchestration would be fine, it's completely unneeded. They're songs you feel completely comfortable in from the first time your hear them, like your favorite chair. Ms. Kane's ability to understand human emotion and her capacity for what Tom Robbins calls "joy in spite of everything" make her albums indispensable for anyone even remotely interested in the best of the modern acoustic world.
