Album Description
As if there was any question after the release of Steel Bath Suicide, Soilwork emphatically proved themselves to be one of melodic death metal's finest Swedish exports on this 2000 Century Media follow-up, The Chainheart Machine.

Ahhh, this takes me back..........2006-12-21
This is an incredible album. Putting it into my home theater and following the lyrics reminds me of the days when Cannibal Corpse and Obituary seemed brutal and intense. Of course, Soilwork doesn't sound anything like either band, but this album has an untamed ferocity that still makes me breathless after several listens. This is one of those albums I can't see getting old.
I can't finish this review without adding that while pretty brutal, this is still a "melodic death," or whatever you want to call it, album. The band uses subtle keyboards and interesting riffage that's as pretty as it is brutal.
Caught me totally off guard. Extremely good listen.
Soilwork was once known for their brutality.......2005-09-04
This is as brutal as melodic death gets. In it's origin, melodic death was either brutal or folk-injected. This album really puts shame to the instrumentals in their newer albums. The speed on this album is unforgiving, there is no singing, and Speed's vocals are much better than his lower screams in their later albums. Get this and Predator's Portrait if you like melodic death at all.
this cd is what all other metal should be judged by........2005-04-26
i have all but steelbath suicide, i bought soilwork in this odd order, NATURAL BORN CHAOS, FIGURE NUMBER 5, PREDATORS PORTRAIT, STABBING THE DRAMA, and finally CHAINHEART MACHINE.
this cd simply destroys them all, i have had this cd for maybe two weeks now and cannot put it down. it goes with me everywhere.
a lot of people say that predators portrait was there crowning achievement and it is a good cd, but this cd is bar none there best. it will never be matched again. every song on this cd is amazing,
my personal 3 fav's are
1. spirits of the future sun. i know i have only been listening to this cd for 2 weeks but this has to be the best song i have ever heard, even surpassing a song on a mercenary cd that i reviewed a while back, this song is simply amazing.
2. chainheart machine, simply put, wow. soilwork outdid themselvses on this song. this song is all over the place.
3. Machinegun Majesty, just simply put another amazing song that i listen to over and over again, especially the final couple of minutes with the solo's going back and forth and if you have this cd, then you know absolutely what i am talking about. sends shivers down my spine everytime i hear it.
this cd is flawless. period.
if you own any soilwork cd's and do not own this,
do not put off buying it for as long as i did.
you will be missing out on something special.
on this cd, soilwork define what real metal sounds like.
The best Soilwork album........2004-09-05
Soilwork would later go on to drastically soften their sound and rely more on melody in future releases, but they gave us one last brutal, intense record before doing so. This is the closest they've ever gotten to perfection...a shame that they had to change.
While "The Chainheart Machine" does include melody, there's a difference between the usage of it and relying on it. Their future albums would rely on it, making them become redundant after a few listens. "The Chainheart Machine", on the other hand, gets better every time you hear it. Henry Ranta's drumming is hectic, a perfect fit for Björn Strid's speedy vocals. The guitars are the best I've heard on any Soilwork album - the frequent solos and interesting rhythmic changes were terrific. Lastly, Ola Fink's bass is nothing too special, but the way it harmonizes with the guitars is amazing.
I seem to use the word 'perfect' a lot when discussing "The Chainheart Machine", but that's because it's the 'perfect' word to describe it. Soilwork were at the top of their game here, it's a shame to see a once great band now releasing mediocre albums like "Figure Number Five". If the idea of Gothenburg melodic death mixed with some thrash and speed metal interests you, pick this one up right away.
Explicit pain to the ears.......2004-08-31
jeeze. i had bout a predators portrait recently, and was thouroughly impressed with it. the melodic heaviness was superb, and every band member was playing beautifully. so, expecting more of this, i bought this album today. the second the guitars came in, i thought to myself, "what?" they were not NEARLY as technical as predators p., and the rhythms were seriously bland. THEN the vocalist came in. he screeched and squeeled like a pig and was absolutely awful. now, this IS the cd that came out BEFORE predators p., so at least they didnt transform that wonderful albums' sound into THIS. seriously, do NOT buy this album before listening to it. BIG MISTAKE
