Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19
Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.
My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.
The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12
Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

France's version of Voivod?.......2006-03-06
I have owned this cd for well over 7 years and it still gives me pleasure in listening. The Concepts this band comes up with are indicative of the French existentialist period (Camus, etc.). This is a notable album because this would also be a pinnacle album in their career (which is still going strong: I recommend this album,"The Cube" "chronophobia" "Imago" and to a lesser degree the rest of their catalog...http://www.holyrecords.com/). Where previous albums were moreso in the melodic death metal only field and subsequent albums have wondered into doom-laden territory, this one balances the different eras of the band really well.
Room Seven offers an ousider (the listener) the viewpoint of an institutionalized man who learns to astrally travel. (to find out more, buy any of their albums, they are all conceptual masterpieces) some conceptual albums fail. this one does not because the songs flow so well and have the perfect blend of aggression and restraint to keep one coming back for more. AND the lyrics and storyline are very intriguing and certainly thought provoking...even bone-chilling at times
the reason I compared this band to Voivod is because of the subject matter (different concepts with every album, all very intense and surreal) they delve into is usually of a borderline sci-fi manner without being cheesy. you can call it intellectual dark/death metal, or call it Cyber metal (though not as technical and thrashy as Oblivion (nemesis era)from Canada)...still there is a lot to offer from this obscure metal group.
If you like your metal experimental and intelligent, even thought provoking, then this band is for you. I have their entire discography and have found them to be a rewarding and unique listen in the Metal genre (like any other genre, one that is often watered down by copycats and sound-a-likes). even with comparisons to Voivod (the music is similar but distinct...think "nothingface" and before era Voivod)), this band is one of a kind....
do I really need to repeat myself? uniqueness? check. Good songcraft? check. an interesting message? check. aggression and melody? check.
get this and then get "the cube" you will not be disappointed.
The best dark wave album ever.......2003-11-28
This cd just rules...you cant compare any other darkwave band to SUP...they just kick major rear end, even though they are french frogs!!!
A MASTERPIECE.......2002-05-07
This is a masterpiece of french cold, industrial and very delicate fine metal... the mixture is strange, isn't it ? Well, the guys of SUP have done there a real piece of art, by concepting an album on the disease of a child, communicating with the outside world. Although the topic is not quite happy (they're not all Bon Jovis...), the melodies and texts are precisely conceived and delivered, in a mercyless order that gives only the envy of listening to it again and again... the riffs are powerfull but scientifically dosed, the rythm are square and structured on a heavy backbeat that leaves no other choice than rythming the music with the foot !!! The voice is not a grunt, but rather soft with brutal incursions sometimes... The bass is omni-present and the infra-bass are a monumenty on this CD... If there should be only ONE french metal album for US metal fans to buy, that would be the one... the ultimate ONE !!! An intelligent band with something to say, its own style and a lot of work... buy it !!! A unique Alchemy on french scene....
masterpiece.......1999-07-04
