Exquisite on every level, and there are many levels.......1999-10-14
This album was a gift from my husband who knows how finely tuned my tastes are as I am a musician also. Michael Gettel's music is so visual that I can listen to it over and over and see different pictures each time. The artistry, creativity and production of his music is non pareil.
Evocative, passionate piano music that transports you away.......1999-07-10
Michael is one of the most talented pianists and composers of imaginative music that I know of. Having started with George Winston at his very beginnings (including barefoot playing at concerts), then graduating on to Michael Jones, we now follow Michael's musical genius with great interest. Several years ago, Michael performed a pro bono benefit concert for the Colorado Ski School for the Blind. "Where Eagles Soar" was performed for a number of blind skiers in the audience - and I heard from many that it gave them a special taste of what they skied down, but could not "see". Tell your friends about Michael's music, he is not afraid to take chances and has managed to survive the homogenizing influences of the record industry to create his own unique style.
Emotionally Uplifting-filled with light.......1999-02-11
This CD is on of my favorites by the artist. It reflects his sense of delicacy and grace. Very emotionally uplifting, bringing both city and country dwllers into re-alignment with one of the few eternal entities: our natural world.

Album Description
The Grand Design is to date Edenbridge's masterpiece: Bombastic and illustrious music underlined with heavy guitars and expressive vocals, courtesy of frontlady Sabine Edelsbacher distinguish their latest epic. New elements, such as the fantastic 64-man choir arrangements of solo artist Robby Valentine (Ayreon, Helloise) also compliment the band's anticipated trademark sound. Thus, virtuoso guitar solos and heavy riffs meet melodic interludes as Edenbridge perfectly bridge the gap between musical prowess and freedom of movement.
Customer Reviews:
"We only follow a line/Our life is part of the Grand Design".......2007-04-05
I can hear some of you saying "Oh no, not another female fronted Gothic group." I say the more the merrier! They are not quite equal to the likes of After Forever or the old Nightwish, but they are darn good. Sabine has a beautiful voice, strong but not quite operatic. (I'm thinking she should drop that last name, Edelsbacher, and just go with Sabine.) The instrumentals, lyrics, melodies and backing vocals are also good here. They name their music "Angelic Bombastic Metal" and I would not argue with that.
As you can tell from my title, which is from the title track, the grand design is human life. The first song, Terra Nova, covers the birth of a child and expresses all the associated hopes and fears ("Dust and dreams, fall or shine/Welcome to the world/The grand design). Track two, Flame of Passion, refers to the passion of youth ("So put a spoke in the wheels of fate"). Evermore concerns the passion for a specific person ("Stay - make my heart sway/And light my way), while The Most Beautiful Place, a beautiful piano-backed ballad, expresses the soul's yearning to return to that place called home. See You Fading Afar reflects on problems in life ("The lonely wind has turned into a squall"), maybe specifically a personal relationship. On Top of the World tells of the positive things that can happen when a person takes control of their life ("See how the land lies/Welcome the sunrise). Then in complete contrast, Taken Away, another ballad, reflects on the sadness of a loved one's death ("The darkest hour of day/When you are finally gone/And taken away"). I don't know about you, but as I rapidly approach 60, I can easily identify with all these basic life themes.
Then finally, The Grand Design talks of life in the world in general and all its problems, but also offers that we have the power to make it better. Following this, there are two "bonus tracks" but the first is a thought provoking instrumental, basically featuring a single electric guitar, which I think provides an excellent closing for the previous eight tracks and could be considered part of the concept. On the other hand, they could have skipped For Your Eyes Only. (Please see my profile for a brief discussion of my rating philosophy.)

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
Easily one of the most impressive debuts to have come out of the underground in the last year or so, North Philly's Grand Agent flaunts one quality that no amount of studio trickery can fake--confidence. His rhyme scheme is sharpened enough to lyrically lacerate, and he flips lines with such graceful ease that you wonder where he's been hiding all this time. The album's production ensemble (including Chops, Kutmasta Kurt, Lord Finesse, M-Boogie, and others) is equally impressive, and surprisingly consistent despite the differences in sound. The best tracks--"Know the Legend," "Straight from the Gate," and "New Mingling"--are practically instant classics. Although he missteps with the moronically misogynistic "2 Bitches," Grand shows unexpected introspection on "You Don't Love Me," a story about his deadbeat dad. It can be rough out there, figuring out which new underground albums are fat and which are flat. Grand Agent leaves few doubts on which side his debut resides. Trust us--don't sleep on this new kid on the block. --Oliver Wang

:::Very Impressive Hip-Hop Album:::.......2001-09-17
I've been looking for this CD since the day it came out. I finally found it and was not dissapointed at all. The bass beats are superb and Grand Agent has a smooth style like Common (Sense). His lyrics match with every song. "From The Gate" is a great example of his smooth lyrical style. "The Man Who Could Be King" is an ill song for it's basic beat and nice rhyming, wasn't really feeling the Christmas Carol chorus tho :( Grand Agent's beats are addicting in most of his songs. He has a unique style that most Hip-Hop Headz can relate to. Simple but yet artistic. This album is a must have in everyones hip-hop collection. This album can even be related to Dilated Peoples, Lootpack, Defari, and many others. Overall, this album is worth the money to pick up . . . ~LSi~
It's Grand's era........2001-05-17
This is a very impressive underground debut from Grand Agent. The overall appeal of this album is Grand's lyrical presence. He has a very distinct rhyme flow and seems to drop gems effortlessly. His phrasing and delivery are airtight and the way he annunciates his words is quite fly. It must be a North Philly type steez. The production-by-committee method supplies some really great moments. With beatsmiths Kutmasta Kurt, Lord Finesse, Hi-Tek, M-Boogie and Chops from the Mountain Bros. providing the aural punch, the diversity of sounds make for a satisfying listening experience. "From The Gate" sets it off nicely with its crackling snares and Grand's butter flow spread over it. I wasn't sure if I was feeling "The Man Who Could Be King" at first, primarily because the Christmas carol hook sounded mad corny to me. Grand Agent rescues this one with his verbals, effectively weaving in and out of the subtle horn-laced track. Bottom line? Underground heads, this album was designed for you...cop and enjoy. Other noteworthy tracks: "Every Five Minutes", "New Mingling", "Patience" and "Know The Legend". Noteworthy cameos: AG, Planet Asia and Lord Finesse.
By Design.......2001-04-10
This is a very impressive debut album, to be honest, i hadn't really heard of Grand Agent before this Album, but now i won't forget him. There are your usual tight beats from Kutmaster Kurt and Hi-Tek, but they arn't really inspirational. This is one of those albums that at first sounds average, btu when listened to really grows on you. Every five Minutes is the perfect example, probably the best tune on the LP, it didn't really stand out at first, and now it has become a true anthem.

Album Description
With this new album EDENBRIDGE once more prove their name: the bridge to the garden Eden seems to be entered by Lanvall when he writes this bombastic and elevating music as well as the intensive lyrics with an almost philosophical approach. For the mighty bombastic sounds not only the heavy guitar work (Mix at Thin Ice Studio in England by Threshold mastermind Karl Groom), must be named but also the mighty choruses (up to 64 voices) by Robby Valentine in the two epics "Terra Nova" end the 10-minutes title track as well as the rocking backings by Dennis Ward. Front lady Sabine Edelsbacher also matured: her voice is even more expressive and intensive and represents the secret of the band with its mystical sound. Massacre. 2006.

Customer Reviews:
Edenbridge's Grand Design, FANTASTIC!!!.......2007-06-10
I cannot stop listening to this disc!! Sabine's voice is really great and the arrangements are superb, along with stellar production values. I am relatively new to this genre, but this disc ranks at the top of the heap followed by Silent Force by Within Temptation and The latest by After Forever. Looking forward to the new Xandria as well. Also, check out "Trinity" by Visions of Atlantis.
Back to this disc though. They really have made a spectacular disc. I have not listened to a disc more since the last couple by the gone but not forgotten Lush (Split and Love Life. Not the same genre, but repeat listenibality, y'know?
Edenbridge are hoping to tour the US in '08, let's hope that comes to pass!!
Cheers!!!
Love it!!.......2006-06-23
This is a great album from start to finish. I love bands like Nightwish, Xandria, Lullacry, and Lunatica. This band ranks up there with the best of the female fronted bands. Not a throwaway song on this disc!!! You won't regreat buying this!!

Well worth the wait-- BRILLIANT!.......1998-09-06
If you've listened to Cosy Sheridan for awhile, you've probably been anxious for this album to appear. GRAND DESIGN is all that I've hoped for and more, showcasing a multi-faceted songwriter and performer at a new level of maturity.
Cosy Sheridan compositions have long displayed a level of conciseness that eludes many writers. Wordy she ain't-- but she isn't simple either. "A Fool Entering the World" is a message of hope crystallized into just over one hundred words. "A Bad Cliche" follows, with the aching poignance of sexual abuse brought home vividly even to those of us who haven't "been there." And yet there is no wallowing in a Cosy Sheridan album: she immediately moves to "I Won't Worry Any More," an almost honky-tonk piece that suggests the healing power of a spiritual connection. This isn't the surreal buoyancy of Dory Previn's "I Danced and Danced and Smiled and Smiled," but rather a very conscious and hard-won decision to find hope despite adversity.
It may seem incongruous that this wise and sometimes silly songwriter can also craft superb torch-songs, but this album offers two wonderful examples. "My Lost Valentine" and "Some Fires" might be at home in a smoky piano bar, even if the woman who wrote them would not. I can certainly imagine them fitting well with Carly Simon's collection "My Romance"...
My personal favorite on this album is "The Little Train." I haven't heard anyone who more clearly describes the context of the Nanosecond Nineties, or who offers a better prescription for surviving them. This song promises a resounding "click" to every woman I know, and to many of the men as well! You'll also want to hear "Masterpiece," originally released seven years ago on her hard-to-find CD "Late Bloomer."
Cosy Sheridan is an intelligent songwriter and a masterful guitarist. She is also a powerful teacher, articulate and generous with what she is learning. Whether you look to her for hope, humor, encouragement, or simply a great listen that can heal you a little in the process, take her music into your life. You won't regret it!
This is a CD with heart.......1998-07-13
I first heard this CD on a public radio station and promptly went and ordered it. Cosy sounds like Shawn Colvin but is a little bouncier and less sultry. My favorite tracks are the title track (which is reminiscent of the child's book Harold's Crayon) which is irresistable but sadly very short ; George and His 88 Keys (I can't listen to it without crying - it's the grandfather equivalent of Butterfly Kisses) and an absolutely beautiful song that says everything about the life of the heart in a nutshell: Some Fires. There is one track called Bad Cliche which is almost too painful to listen to, a disturbing account of child sexual abuse and recovery - but it's a compelling song. Another is the thought provoking Don't Go In the Water - for those of us who live with uranium tailings, it's a fact of life. Over all, this is worth your money - I hope she gets more and more exposure!

Layton Rocks, Melodically.......2004-11-12
I've been going to see the various incarnations of Layton (previously Paul and Lara, Friends of Desire, etc.) perform for several years now. They've continually honed and refined a distinctive sound, heavy on Brian Wilson-esque melody, effortlessly blending synthesizers, strings, pianos, drums and dreamy vocals from both Paul and Lara. The music is resolutely and unashamedly optimistic, and Grand Design employs pop elements with a sophistication and wit that makes the record far more than the sum of its parts. For all of its pop appeal, it's not lightweight music. There's a hint of early B-52s, of ragtime, of Bowie, there's moog and electronic clapping and honest-to-goodness drums, and it's utterly unlike anything else I've heard. Unqualified comparisons are hard to come by. You gotta hear it.
Hope's All There Is has a sexy, driving hook and breathy, seductive vocals from Lara, while the pretty duet Roundagon is almost a lullaby, a theme continued in Milky Way and Rainbows and U. C-June, Venus and Morning Glory feature lush, layered vocals (again from both Paul and Lara), and unorthodox, avant-garde arrangements. Layton experiments with sound on the level of Trent Reznor in that it's as if they've come up with entirely new sounds that are nevertheless accessible.
Buy it, or one day you'll regret it... then you'll cry........2004-09-24
I had the extreme fortune to own this when it was the demo called 'Friends of Desire'. I listened to the new version to find that it had done nothing but get, dare I say it? MORE AWSOME...ER.
The tone is perfect. All the things I thought I heard in the background are brought more to the foreground to rock you more than you though possible in one setting.
As for the album itself, one word, seemless. Completely without seem. Each track complements the next and before you know it your on track 1 for an encore.
Paul you are a genius. And please ignore my spelling errors.

Amazing Talent.......2006-11-03
A friend let be borrow this CD. Since obtaining it I have not been able to put it down. The production, song
material, musicianship, vocals and performance are outstanding. She has been around for awhile but this is
her breaktghrough CD. It is haunting, beautiful, meaningful, and thought provoking and makes you listen to it.
I have played it over and over and each time I hear new things and meanings. Great vocals accompanied by a
stripped down production makes this one of the great sleepers in the music industry. I reccomend this CD to
anyone who appreciates actual talent, skill and beauty. This is a must have in your collection. GREAT CD.
This one's off the chart!.......2000-08-24
This is my favorite album of all time. I have all the others and love them, but Cosy's lyrics on this one outdo anything I've heard anywhere. The music makes you sing, and cry, and LAUGH, and think. My 15-yr old daughter plays it over and over. If I could only keep one of the hundreds of CDs I own, this would be the one!

[Similarities: Dokken, Fair Warning, White Lion].......2000-05-26
This is one of those releases that does zero for me. It'sbig riff filled Euro rock that sounds like it wants to be so manythings, yet winds up being none of them. Sure it has some decent moments, like the bouncy "Heart On The Run" or the big arena rocker "Desperate Call", but the rest is all "by the numbers" melodic rock that neither inspires nor leaves you with the feeling that you've accomplished anything for the 50 minutes you spent listening. C'mon, does anyone get excited over titles like "Eyes Of A Stranger", "Going Crazy" or "Love Reaction" anymore? Nicely played, nicely produced, now if they only had the songs to go with it...
