5 out of 5 stars Surprise -- the melody sounds like mediocre, but acutually is creative !.......2006-09-18

At that time I want to buy Interpol' Turn on the Bright Lights, but it was sold out, then the clerk recommend me this album. It's awesome and became one of my favorite.

4 out of 5 stars another good GbV record.......2006-07-23

though no one will ever confuse earthquake glue with bee thousand, there are moments here when you remember why you fell in love with this band in the first place. there are, however, problems. what's with that annoying sound all the way through i'll replace you with machines? does bob think my kind of soldier is a good enough lead-off track? why are kevin's drums almost inaudible? didn't he mine the whole "i want to sound like the who" thing pretty exhaustively with choreographed man of war? either way, i like this record and it's better than the following year's GbV swan song, half smiles of the decomposed. i just get a little sad listening to this.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy It! You'll Regret It........2006-05-16

I recently purchased this CD because I'd been hearing the song "Useless Inventions" on Little Steven's Underground Garage station, and I really liked it. But after purchasing the album and listening to it, I really wish I had never bought it. "Useless Inventions" is the only good track on this CD. Everything else is just bland and boring.
If you're a die-hard fan of this band and have to have all of their albums, wait until you can find a used copy of this one for 4 or 5 bucks, because you probably won't listen to it a second time.
Oh well, at least I've learned that this band had much better albums than this one.

5 out of 5 stars Whose Pollard? Well this is Pollard's Who............2006-03-01

I'm listening to this album now, and I got to tell you I dig it. It is definitely Pollard's Who album (GBV rocks, in every stage of their career, by the way. I'm not going to engage in useless debate about old vs. new)....I've heard alot of influences on Uncle Bob, but I always thought The Who was the biggest. So here you go.....A great album.

4 out of 5 stars Long Live GBV.......2005-01-07

"Earthquake Glue" took about a year for me to get into. As a long time GBV fan, I initially didn't like this at all, I should know by now, as a lot of Robert Pollard's music takes time to give rewards. I kept wanting it to sound like "Isolation Drills" or "Alien Lanes", but once I listened to it for what it is, not what I wanted it to be, I loved it. So many brilliant songs here, like "Mix Up The Satelite", "Useless Inventions", "Beat Your Wings","Dead Cloud", "My Kind of Soldier" and "Dirty Water"...these tunes are really fresh and exciting. Don't expect "Glad Girls" or "Echoes Myron" part 2, though-this is Robert Pollard evolving and moving forward, a nice contrast to the prevoius album, "Universal Truths And Cycles". The arrangements and moods are really fascinating, maybe a little downbeat, but also uplifting in places. Of course, amazing lyrics here and every song paints a colorful picture. Listen to this at home at high volume, and be open minded about it...The drumming of Kevin March is awesome, well done. Another classic in the GBV library.

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest guitar albums ever!!!.......2005-09-08

This is an amazing album from start to finish. Uli Jon Roth is the one who started the neo-classical guitar stylings all the way back from the days of the Scorpions. He is one guitarist who has continued to grow as an artist, never resting on his laurels, always striving to learn and improve. He is a true artist and an amazing technician, always playing from the heart and soul.

Earthquake is one of my favorite albums of all time. Some of the highlights are the title track, Sundown and Still So Many Lives Away(the best guitar solo ever recorded).

This is a must have album for any Uli fans, Scorpions fans and guitarists alike. Uli Jon Roth rocks!

5 out of 5 stars songs from the floor.......2004-07-09

Circlesquare's Pre-Earthquake Anthem fits snugly in the lexicon of the Output Records sound. This unusual record sounds mildly apocalyptic, vaguely narcoleptic, and highly foreboding. The title itself suggests the doom of an impending earthquake. And that imagined catastrophe is the climax that every song aches for, like there is some invisible build-up conjured by Circlequare's hypnotic slow-motion electro-funk. "Just wait here for disaster comes" warns Circlesquare.

As far as I can ascertain, Circlesquare is mostly one person, named March21, who has a comforting vocal style sounding like he recorded this album real late at night when everyone else was asleep. A shouting whisper.

The strangest part of the record is All Sleepers. Deeply infectious, this one can worm its way into your head and remain there. But there is something strangely familiar about it. 1970's Glam-Boy David Essex's one-hit "Rock On" seems to haunt this song, in melody and spooky chorus punctuated by the yelps of "Hey!" and "Rock + Roll". I have played the two songs together and find it hard to believe this a coincidence. I think Circlesquare's March21 is doing this on purpose. Like it's some sort of strange clue. As if it is "Rock On (part two)". Or a weird joke. But, as baffled as I am by it, it hardly matters because it's an excellent song, both of 'em.

Non-Revival Alarm is the central peak of the album, and can be isolated as its best song. Though, Pre-Earthquake Anthem can be seen as one big-long song, Non-Revival Alarm is the catchy part. Especially with the "ba ba ba-ba b-b-ba ba ba ba ba ba ba". If Trevor Jackson were Phil Spector, this would be his Ronettes. Though, I don't know what Trevor Jackson's real role in this album is. I think he produces most of the bands on his label, however all of Circlequare's credits tend to lean to March21.

4 out of 5 stars Wow! $40? And worth it!!.......2005-08-31

This is an incredibly underrated album despite the validity of much of the criticism. Yeah, the production had a drunk old geezer at the board, and Zander Schloss is said to have been a better actor than a guitar player.

However, the thing about the album is that it holds up much better than the rest of his collection save for perhaps the Walker soundtrack, which might be even more expensive.

"King of the Bayou" (a salute to Cory Aquino) is one of the greatest things Joe Strummer ever wrote.

The lyrics are outstandingly relevant in 2005. The guy was great at stating the shape of things to come by acknowledging them as already existing in the present.

3 out of 5 stars Over produced nightmare!.......2005-06-15

Earthquake Weather has to be one of the most over produced albums I have ever heard. The lyrics and concept of the songs are great but it's badly over produced. Maybe they should have keep the music basic and hid the tapes from Joe before he added and layered sound and music that wasn't needed. A good album but too much tinkering can ruin a good thing.

For Joe Strummer fans but beware of the production!

5 out of 5 stars A real gem!.......2005-02-04

Anyone that thinks Earthquake Weather is a bad offering from Strummer is trippin and I would question the maturity and coolness of their musical ears. Yeah, maybe it's not a totally polished production like some Britney Spears CD, but come on people that's what gives it depth and makes it atmospheric like the Clash recordings, especially the first Clash record. I absolutely love this album and it is a cherished possession of mine. I listened to it when it first came out back in the 80's and today it sounds just as great, meaningful, and hardhitting as it did then. Strummer as always gives us his "salt of the earth" performance like he did with the Clash. The lyrics are real cool and eclectic while the band forms a tight knit behind Joe's guitar playing. Zander, the lead guitarist lays down some very impressive work and being a guitar player of 20 plus years I know what I am talkin bout. This one has revved up rockers like Gangsterville as well as slower numbers like Island Hopping that will make you want to get on a boat and go sailing in the Bahamas or something. Tons of soul baby! This is the missing link for Clash, Strummer fans, so get it if you can. Expensive isn't it? I'm not selling my copy!

5 out of 5 stars Joe Strummer's GREATEST solo effort.......2005-01-21

I guess the reason why I love "Earthquake Weather" more than Strummer's other post Clash releases, is that it was so Clash-like. Whereas Strummer's other solo efforts with the Mescaleros went off in a new and innovative fashion, Earthquake weather had that rebellious Clash sound. Every song is well crafted, there are no throwaway songs on this album, which I think makes it more consistent than his other three solo efforts. Moreover, many of the songs on this album are right up there with the best of Clash songs, such as "Jewelers and Bums" and the great opening track. Great album by one of the greatest musical icons of all-time.

4 out of 5 stars Down in Gangsterville.......2004-03-19

This is Joe's first release since 1985's awful Cut the Crap, he's back with a new band, The Latino Rockabilly War, they had been playing for a couple years togethar before this albums release making a few songs for films such as "Trash City" and "Baby the Trans" though these to songs are great they don't appear on this album.
Track one is Gangsterville, you can kinda see this track as the song between The Clash and Joe's work with the Mescaleros, this track is a real rocker, possbily his best non-clash song?
The album is up there with anything he made with the Mescaleros, it is much harder edged, and Zander Scholoss guitar work is impressive. Its a shame this album didnt get the credit it deserved at the time and did flop. A mistake by the CBS? who knows
best cuts are "Gangsterville", "Ride your Donkey", "King of Bayou" and "Dizzys Goatee"

4 out of 5 stars Williams goes bossa-nova and I can dig it.......2005-04-18

Actually, the only bossa-nova track is SOMETHING FOR ROSA. And it's my favorite track. I couldn't help but notice that Williams engaged in a bit of self-repetition when he took an EARTHQUAKE track called THE CITY SLEEPS and redid it as a SUPERMAN track called THE PLANET KRYPTON. (Not that there's anything wrong with that. Maybe. Possibly. Let it also be said that the awakening-city shtick was first done by Vaughan Williams in his LONDON SYMPHONY.) Williams has always been inordinately fond of trumpet triplets and the triplet showcase here is MILES ON WHEELS. Claire Fischer's pianism in CITY THEME is absolutely breathtaking.

5 out of 5 stars Young Williams does Jazz.......2003-06-16

A score that is everything but a disaster... John Williams' soundtrack for Earthquake was originally released on vinyl back in 1974. A collector's item worth for keeps, now a digital recording and with an extra track (Something for Remy)not included in the LP version, all of it with superb digital editing, this time in Varese Sarabande label. You will not regret to pay whatever price is asked for this piece.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Jazz of John Williams and the most Beautiful.......2001-01-20

I didn't know what to think when I saw the movie and listened to the score, but afterward, I borrowed the movie from a friend and then I had this CD put on order and I didn't want to stop listening to it. Then during Christmas time I got the movie. This is the best early recording that I have of John Williams! He now tops the list of my favorite composers putting Bernard Herrmann the second on the list.

3 out of 5 stars The Earth Trembles.......2000-06-06

"Earthquake" is an interesting blend of jazz, pop and classical styles that has the listener wondering if this is really for a disaster film, since John Williams wrote a nice score where the pop and jazz moments are the best on this album. The earthquake sound effects are the only things that lead us to say "Yes, this is for a disaster movie." However, I felt kinda disappointed of the classical part of this album because it bores. Maybe Mr. Williams was saving his classical chops for something better.

4 out of 5 stars "Early John Williams - superior score for a so-so film".......2000-04-22

From a disaster film comes this wonderful score by John Williams, who briefly played piano for the great Henry Mancini on various albums in the '60s. This of course was before Mr. Williams found his own niche in the world of music. The score for this film is far superor than the film itself, Williams themes are solid and thoroughly enjoyable.

A few stand outs - "CITY THEME" (track three) solo piano to start with, followed by the full and haunting orchestration, simply beautiful - "THE CITY SLEEPS" (track six) a light and different theme rises from the baton of Maestro Williams, nice touch. This early John Williams is a must for any film score collector or Williams fan.

Yes, Aaron Carter's voice has cracked on his third album, but that's not the whole story here. Another Earthquake finds the teen-pop star shedding the simple melodies of his previous releases in favor of a more grownup sound that's informed equally by Nelly's insistent rap grooves ("My First Ride") and Limp Bizkit's infectious new-metal riffs ("Another Earthquake"). Carter has come a long way from the puerile "Aaron's Party (Come Get It)," but his childlike charm remains firmly intact on joyous amusement-park anthems like "2 Good 2 B True" and "America A O." --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars This is a Good Album.......2006-11-26

This is another good album by Aaron Carter that shows that he is definitely maturing as a singer/rapper. A lot of people think that he is an Eminem imitator (sorry about my spelling!), but whoever says that is definetly wrong. The reason behind why I got into Aaron Carter in the first place was that HE DOESN'T SWEAR IN HIS LYRICS!!! He is NOT an Eminem wannabe rapper, he's himself, and I am sure that rapping is just another approach that Aaron wanted to try because so many people are into more rap than actual singing. And between this album and Oh Aaron, Aaron does a good job of rapping. Just give him a chance. I am sure you will like him in the end. My favorite songs are To All The Girls, America AO, as well as others.

Anyone who grew up in a mill town will immediately identify with the images created by the music. This has to be Mancini at his best. There are six more original pieces (tracks 6 through 11) that showcase Henry Mancini's unique ability of giving joy to others while doing something that he truly enjoys. I have all of these pieces on the LP, Debut. I have been looking for them on CD for years. I am listening to the CD as I write this review. As the sleeve says, it "presents a quality of sound superior to the original vinyl album."
