A nice complimation of old meets new........2007-05-31
A great complication of Welk's music remixed for a newer generation. I originally heard 'Bubbles in the Wine'
(Dex Dubious) on WXPN in Philly a few years back and a few other selections from the album over the
last few years.
If you are into remixes, and diverse music, you'll really enjoy this album. Also the album is rootkit free, so it
will play on any any CD player.
what a difference from the day..........2006-12-24
I never heard Lawerence at my house since "hee haw" showed at the same time each saturday, so I don't know some of the origins of these songs, but I do know that whomever crafted these modernistic views of their cheesy classics have me perking up and appreciating this compilation. Being a ballroom dancer by trade, I love this cd for what it makes of a very hypersynthetic factoid of those people who lived near my family growing up and never used their living room and never got down home to play with the country folk. I grew up with country and shuned it as a child, thinking that there were better sounds with the top 40. Then as I grew up, I realized through the ballroom industry that I was missing something and this cd has a wonderful way of depicting the synthetic fakeness of the plastic set of the sixties and early seventies. I love the chill sound of these modern technological means and even if you never heard the sounds of the "welk" family, you will love the sheer 'lounge' of the new versions. I thought that I would buy this cd for a childhood friend of mine for she grew up with that plasticity, deciding that I wanted to keep it for myself. If you are a lover of silly songs done with a very modern take, then you might want to keep this one too. It is a lounge/ chill classic.
You have to get this!.......2004-09-03
I'm a huge Lawrence Welk fan and was somewhat apprehensive upon ordering this cd. I did not want in anyway the delightful sounds of Lawrence Welk to be comprimised. But to my surprise, techno music incorporated with the Bubbly Sounds takes Lawrence Welk to a higher level.
Lawrence enters the millenium!!!!.......2004-08-24
It's the most amazing thing I've heard since Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys!!!! Who would have believed that the bubbling sounds of the Welk orchestra would sail into the new century with a hit CD playing in dance bars, cocktail lounges and livng rooms? I've always enjoyed Welk. I was a kid when CALCUTTA, YELLOW BIRD, RUNAWAY, MY THREE SONS, LAST DATE, SCARLETT O'HARA and BABY ELEPHANT WALK were in the Billboard charts....being played on Top 40 stations. In fact, BABY ELEPHANT WALK was No. 1 in Oklahoma City and 50,000 watt Top 40 giant KOMA played the number 1 song for 24 hours straight 1 day per week. Those recordings were not even close to "Champagne Music" or "Ah 1 and Ah 2".
BABY ELEPHANT WALK was my favorite Lawrence Welk single and to hear it in two different remixes on this CD is a real treat.
The biggest surprise was Guy and Ralna's recording of YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE. Imagine Jimmy Davis in his heavenly home looking down on dancers stomping to his signature tune.
You don't even have to have heard of Lawrence Welk to love this cd!
One of 2004's best releases.
A must have!.......2004-08-18
Who ever thought that Lawrence Welk could be anything but "old school cool?" With a revamped and remixed image from some of the best DJ's around Lawrence Welk has been re-invented and club kids and hipsters allover will soon be sipping champagnes and grooving to Lawrence Welk. With songs like "You are My Sunshine" and "Baby Elephant Walk" backed by thumping beats and mellow grooves like "Caravan" this album would be a perfect fit at any trendy club or trendy lounge type bar. It is best listened to the whole way through because the album is so wonderfully constructed song by song it takes you on a journey that comes full circle. All in all an fabulously fun and clever album.

Customer Reviews:
Relaxing and thoughtful music that's become uncorked.......2004-09-21
It isn't often that I review instrumental soundtracks. How to describe the orchestra or the tracks? However, I decided on the soundtrack for one of my favourite movies, Minnie Driver's At Sachem Farm, or Uncorked for the movie release. The music was composed and produced by Jeff Danna, who has done music for other movies as well as collaborated on Celtic-flavoured albums with his brother Mychael.
Some of the tracks are variations on the main theme, best encapsulated in "Ross's Concert," a sweet introspective and sad acoustic guitar track that goes into a sudden burst of energy for a minute as if to celebrate that active energy encapsulated in one's potential.
However, the track "The Arboretum" which mixes shimmering strings and flutes, with violins, is another great rendition of the main theme. Ditto for "Discovery," wonder-inducing and warm at the same time, played when Ross finds out that the things he has been worried about are all taken care of, and that things are all right. The end title is a more skippy version of the tune, as things turn out happy in the end.
Others such as "Little Pillar" and "The Crane" serve as minor set pieces, although the latter with its stark piano and violin sounds like a stripped-down Sigur Ros track.
A distinctly Celtic-flavoured sound is represented with the harmonium and hurdy-gurdy in "Stilt Walk," played when Uncle Cullen does the title deed and perches atop his 20-cubit pillar to get the far perspective. That same melody is found in "Red Wine," played when Ross is alerted by his housekeeper that the faucet, laundry, and sink are pouring out red wine, uncorked by Uncle Cullen.
Apart from "Ross's Concert," my other favourite track is "Love Of Heaven," the only vocal track, done by soft Meav sound-alike Sara Clancy. A slow and sad Celtic ballad, this was featured when both Minnie Driver and Rufus Sewell end up with their respective soul-mates at the end of the film. This track is also on Jeff and Mychael Danna's A Celtic Romance-The Story of Lladain and Curithur
Clocking in at 29 and a half minutes, Uncorked may be shorter than average, but the tracks work well as bite-sized pieces of sweet melancholy and thoughtfulness, the sort one might have while looking out of a window on a rainy day.
Note that vocal songs by Toad The Wet Sprocket, The Wild Strawberries, Grant Lee Buffalo, Tara MacLean, Barenaked Ladies, and Sarah McLachlan which were featured in the movie are not included. However, Jeff Danna, known for doing other instrumental soundtracks, his most recent one being the one for Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon, has cut his teeth on others, such as O and Cold Comfort, so that's not a big thing, although it would've been nice to have a separate Uncorked soundtrack featuring all the songs.
Great Music! Limited Editon!.......2004-04-21
I love this soundtrack, especially "Ross' Concert"... Jeff Danna's music is just beautiful. To respond to the other reviewer who commented on the CD's length... I'm a fan of the movie too and all of Dana's music from the movie is on the CD.
Plus what's cool is that this is a Limited Edition of only 3,000 CDs, so that would explain the regular price.
buyer beware.......2004-04-21
The music is beautiful, but the CD is less than 30 minutes long, so it should have been half the price.

good stuff!.......1999-03-09
Jimmy Crowley is a balladdeer from the South of Ireland with a quite unique style. This geat live album features a lot of his classic favourites. Recommended to all who like Irish music like e.g. the Dubliners or Christy Moore, expecially of course to all waiting for his past albums to be released on CD ;-)

Album Description
A tour of California's celebrated Napa Valley with host narrator David Hyde Pierce. Contains stories, wine tips, fold-out map and originally-composed melodies celebrating Napa and Napa style.
Customer Reviews:
Great for planning a trip to wine country.......2005-08-31
This CD is a great intro to wine, wine tasting, and Napa. The jazz is also good, though in short supply. I like David Hyde Pierce's narration...he's a great story teller. I'm ordering Sonoma Uncorked next and planning my trip to wine country.
Some information intertwined with inanity.......2004-07-11
So I bought this record for two reasons. First, I've had an interest in Napa from both loving Northern California (being from San Diego), and also having been reading Michael Chiarello's books. Second, the description mentioned that there was information on wine tasting etiquette and procedure if you will.
That's the reason I'm giving this two stars. There was wine tasting information. It was even useful and correct. I'd recommend this to friends (with judicious use of 'fast forward') as a primer to wine tasting, especially when more than one winery is to be considered.
The rest of the record is just reprehensible. It's almost 2 hours of the narrator being smug to the point of sheer idiocy. Complete with dubbed-in soundtrack for his various incredibly bad "jokes". He commits an unending stream of incredibly bad puns (bad in a bad way, not bad in a good way), and writes check after bad check on his foppish television character.
In addition to his incessant blathering and quest to prove how clever he is, there is the occasional five-plus-minute interlude of crummy jazz music. I'm not saying that jazz music itself is crummy, mind you. I'm just saying that the music in question is crummy. And there's a lot of it. I found myself fast-forwarding the iPod a tremendous amount, and let's face it, we paid for this.
There are brief mentions of sites to see in Napa (an only brief, condescending mention of the French Laundry, for example), but they serve only to bolster the various nonhumorous jokes thrown about. This is largely an album about the narrator, and secondly, an album about wine. The focus seems to be on the wineries, which is appropriate, but the wineries seem to be an ends to drinking wine -- rather than touring Napa.
I can't recommend this to anyone who wishes to actually tour Napa. I also can't recommend this to anyone with a low tolerance of television personalities. I don't like sitcoms, and I didn't buy this to hear some re-iteration of a sitcom personality.
It is marginally good at instructing a user for a introduction to wine tasting, and it does have a small amount of history of the Napa wineries.
Avoid.
Great fun!.......2003-05-08
This is a fun way to tour the Napa Valley. Informative and entertaining.
Bravo! Excellenté! Benissimo!".......2002-10-15
To quote Niles Crane: "Bravo! Excellenté! Benissimo!"
I just purchased it from Amazon.com and have just finished listening to the second cd. David Hyde Pierce is a great storyteller! There were times that I had to catch myself from laughing out loud. (I didn't want anyone at work to think that I was nuts)
Lots of Pop in Napa Uncorked.......2002-10-04
David Hyde Pierce could make the telephone book funny, but he brings is elegant wit to bear on a far more interesting topic in this CD about wine and wineries. It is a useful and entertaining blend of humor and information that should appeal to the connoisseur and novice alike.

Finally uncorked!.......2007-01-21
I heard the lead-off track 3 yeas ago, "Santa lost a Ho," and I knew I was going to get this CD. I should have bought it then! All the songs are excellent. Great song writing and musicians.
Much welcome mistletoe madness...!.......2003-11-17
A great, groovy, well-produced and really good-natured set of original roots-blues holiday tunes... Acoustic roots showman Dan Hicks and a bunch of his Bay Area buddies cruise through their fourth album of madcap holiday novelty songs... and it may be their best one yet! The album kicks off with the off-color "Santa Lost A Ho" then zips through a series of similarly silly, likeable novelty tunes. The players are cherry-picked from the ranks of overly-talented Northern California musicians -- mostly fellows whose names you wouldn't recognize, though roots divas Maria Muldaur and Angela Strehli drop in for a duet on "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus" and Norton Buffalo resurfaces for "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas" (don't play this song for your kids: they'll only get ideas!) Overall, this is a really fun album... If you want a little break from the saccharine blechiness that passes for yuletide cheer, then this is a disc that may make your holidays fun again...!)
Best album yet from the Christmas Jug Band!.......2002-12-16
Anybody with a sense of humor that also appreciates good swing-style jazz or jump-blues will play this CD all year, and not just during the Christmas season. There is enough musical talent assembled to fill out a 6 CD box set, with mainstays of Dan Hicks, Paul Rogers, Austin de Lone, Tim Eschliman, and several others. Also includes guests Norton Buffalo and Maria Muldaur. The CD itself is artfully printed, just like the jewelcase cover, and there are decent liner notes for a change (thanks Globe Records).
The 12 jumping tracks include (original songs noted by writer):
1. Santa Lost a Ho (Paul Rogers)
2. Santa's Workshop (Dan Hicks)
3. Hey Santa (Austin de Lone)
4. Ain't That Cold (Tim Eschliman)
5. Boogie Woogie Santa Claus
6. These Christmas Blues (Dan Hicks)
7. Plant a Santa (Paul Rogers)
8. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
9. Lonesome Reindeer Blues
10. Don't They Know It's Christmas? (Tim Eschliman)
11. Santa, You Got What It Takes
12. Silent Night
Suprisingly, lots of spirit and soul in that last track. And not a dud amongst the 12. If you are buying for a gift, make sure to get one for yourself...
Midwest Record Recap says..........2002-10-20
Peopled and fueled by the people that make the music behind many of your fave front persons, this highly skewed Christmas set is a hoot. Recording together again in the first time in forever, this bunch of fun by some of the greatest names from 70's blues, rock and pop will blow you away because it's done outside the system with an attitude to match. With a songbag that pulls from many outlaw quandrants (like the Marx Bros.), there's nothing here that adults won't find a great break from "Deck the Halls". Let the good times roll.
