Jane Froman - Her Memory Lingers On.......2001-03-13

I have all the original recordings that are on this CD. In addition, I also have the original "Pal Joey" album with Jane Froman and a Gershwin memorial album recorded in 1938 from Lewisholn Stadium in New York with Jane Froman, Felix Night and his orchestra, and Enoch Light.

I was privileged to have been a fan and friend of Jane Froman's starting in 1953 until not too long before she passed away. As a young girl, I was involved in fund raising with Ms. Froman and other fans and friends for Ms. Froman's favorite charity, the children's division of The Menninger Clinic. Ms. Froman's courage and graciousness left a lasting impression on my life. I gave most of my memorabelia to her fan club in 1956, but I have retained her recordings and some original sheet music from the 1930's with her photo on the covers.

An exquiste sampling of Jane Froman's dark and lovely voice, The Star Through Three Decades will entrance a new listener and delight those who already know her work.

Like many new listeners, I learned about Miss Froman through the film of her life, "With A Song in My Heart." The soundtrack of the film is also available).

I was enthralled by this c.d. -- it was a window back in time to a musical era before my time. Although the style of the music seems very affected by today's standards, it will delight those who enjoy listening to popular music of a bygone age. And Froman's voice is quite remarkable -- it transcends the style of the music to give it a timeless quality.

Froman was classically trained, and you can hear that training in the perfection of her phrasing and the delivery of her music. But she is far more than a tecnician -- a genuine melencholy and longing emerges from the somewhat stilted tunes.

Album Description

This is the latest full length record by Santa Cruz CA band Stalins War. The album was recorded at Castle Ultimate in Oakland, CA by Zach Ohren and Mastered by Brandon Fitzgerald. Drum tracks were done by the bands ex drummer Rick Holbrook. The songs "Isla de los Muertos" and "Red Tears and Calloused Hnads" feature the famous guest vocals by Brandon Abhorrance. Moana's vocals are still screamy and thrashy, however these songs contain much more melodic parts as well.

I'm really in love with this album since I own it. It's so awesome. Everything is fine and I can just recommend buying this to everyone who likes Hard/Emocore. My Scores:

01. My Theory 5/5: Has a great intro and this song is just a perfect start for this CD.

02. Panic Attack 5/5: This one ist also on their "Mirror In Dark Room EP" und it's much better here. I love Moama's and Matt's voices. They act perfectly together and it sounds so well!

03. Last Words 5/5: Nice song. Has a great guitar intro and I like that Moama is almost singing the whole song.

04. Mirror In A Dark Room 5/5: Well, also on their EP, but this version is slower and sounds also clearer. I love this song. The bridge is just great!

05. May Scores Of Angels 5/5: Pleas don't get me wrong. I really love these songs and that's why so many get such a high score. And yeah, this one is just great.

06. This Still-Born Hope 5/5: This is my favorite song on this album. I just love everything about it!

07. Isla De Los Muertos 3/5: Well, a song I can hear, but it's not one of my favorites. Not very bad, it's okay.

08. Defiance Is Not Un-American 5/5: Great guitar work, superb lyric and good singing. Hell, yeah, I love this one.

09. The Rebirth 5/5: A song about vampires. Great. It's just amazing how Matt and Moama sing their parts. It's so catchy. And the end is the best part on this album. Yeah, the boy was sad! :-)

10. To Conquer And Destroy 5/5: Another track from their EP. Also much better here. Great end with these moaning! I love it.

11. He Who Lives By The Sword, Dies By The Sword 4/5: Great titel and this song is also good. But not their best.

12. Red Tears And Calloused Hands 5/5: A nice way to end such a great album. On this one Matt is almost only singing and that's so great.

So, my scores are very high, but this album is really good. Check their website out and listen to some tracks of them. It's such a great band. Peace!
