Customer Reviews:
A great band but not their best..........2007-05-29
An all time great band but this is not as good as "Second Heat". Worth it for collectors.
AWESOME.......2005-07-29
I liked Racer X in the 80's, but always fast fowarded the songs to the solo sections. When I heard that Paul Gilbert had rejoined Racer X I thought "One step foward, two steps back". Just recently a friend played this CD for me, WOW was I ever wrong. Paul's playing and guitar tone have progressed by leaps and bounds.
This is BY FAR the best Racer X has ever sounded.
Check out Paul Gilbert's website too.
Roaring Drums, Ripping Guitar, Rocking Vocals.......2004-10-12
This albums rips! This was my first Racer X purchase and it has not let me down. If you're loking for Van Halen with guitar harmonies, this is something along those lines. This record kicks some serious booty, enough said.
Finally the PERFECT band for me.......2004-04-17
When a friend told me to check out the band "Racer X" I resisted because he simply told me they were progressive. For some reason the bands name initially made me think of alternative rock, which is one genere I generally find tiring and predictable. I was at the store and couldn't find anything else worth while that I didn't already have - so I hesitantly picked up their CD.
From the first second i popped it in the CD player, i realized IT IS METAL! PROGRESSIVE FREAKING METAL! Racer X manages to take all of the good things I like about certain generes and combine them all without weakening any musical attributes.
Too many metal bands don't focus on the technical aspects... and too many progressive bands don't focus on the raw aspects... RACER X MANAGES TO FOCUS ON BOTH THE MOUTH WATERING TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF MUSIC AND THE AWESOME TOUGH FEELING OF METAL.
BASED ON THIS CD, I can honestly say RACER-X is the perfect band for a music-junky like myself...
This is without a doubt one of the best albums, if not THE BEST album in my collection.

50,000 Thousand People Need To Scream This Album ROCKS!!.......2004-07-07
THIS ALBUM BY TFU ROCKS!!!! TFU has been out of the making cds process for 5 years now and when I saw this album coming out in April I was thirlled! An awesome mix of songs all through out the cd. Theres one song I missed not hearing was White Boys Burden I love that song! But this just Rocks start to finish and If you want rough, tough, ferious, hard, screamo, and an album thats brilliant then get this cd! So if you want a total butt kicking when you take a listen then get it today! This cd is best heard LOUD!! Plus theres a farwell letter from both Clark brothers telling you that TFU is finished. It also tells you how they got started and how they did what they did from basically 96-99. So alittle TFU history is in order and its cool to hear what there thoughts on there band was. If you like TFU then get this today!
A worthy end to the late, great, TFU........2004-05-07
TFU was one of the greatest bands to ever grace the Solid State label. This CD is a fitting testimony to them. I would still have to recommend the whole Plastic Soul Impalement album over this CD, but for those of us who weren't lucky enough to obtain some of their rarer material (like the alternate version of "One Zero One"), it is a nice way to go. If you own both "Plastic Soul Impalement", and "Throwing a Wrench into the American Music Machine" then all you need is this one album to own every song they released. The whole "Falling Cycle LP" is on this CD. I personaly prefer the full version of "Pretty Picture of Lies" more than I do the original, but the original's inclusion on this album makes since. I've never cared for the song "Tennessee Midget" and would have preferred the inclusion of "Seeing-Eye Fruit Bat" or "The Art of Killing a Copying Machine" over it. The songs are well mixed through out the CD, but the CD seems a little rough; due to the differences in quality (and style) between their albums. Still... this is one greatest hits album that I'm sure I'll enjoy for a long time.
As a side note, the Clark brothers (the brains behind TFU) now have a band called Demon Hunter. DH is a metal band (a little softer than Living Sacrifice), and as much as I love their music, I still think Plasic Soul Impalement is the greatest album that the Clarks have released, and, in my opinion, one of the greatest albums of all time.

This San Francisco quartet succeeds at taking aggro-electro rock to a new level with Technical Difficulties. While numerous other electro-industrial groups rely on blatant anger and rampant sequencing to fuel their work, Hate Dept. display more depth and thought; they give the songs breathing room. "Anger Impulse" and "Fireflies" feature rockin' electric guitars and heavy, danceable beats, but the band also displays a variety of guitar tones. Of course, if you want a stomper, indulge in "Release It." Then there's the melancholic, trumpet-laced ballad "Wait." What distinguishes Hate Dept. from their peers is a sense of melody and drama. Their promise has certainly been fulfilled with Technical Difficulties. --Bryan Reesman
Customer Reviews:
one of the best Industrial-techno bands I've heard.......2006-04-27
I Love Industrial-techno and Hate Dept. is one of my favorite bands. Right up there with Rammstein and Chemlab. I like every song on this album except for the ballad "Wait". "Release It" is my favorite. Hate Dept. has great electronic Industrial beat with good vocals. It's not too angry and not too Dancey.
One of the worst I've heard in a long while..........2003-06-18
I bought this album off of a recommendation and a whim (something I usually am not fond of doing) and was GREATLY disappointed. The only song on this album even worth mentioning is "Fireflies," and that is if you are listening to only the music and NOT the vocals. Speaking of the vocals, there is not a single note worth listening to, as quite simply, the vocals are AWFUL. My recommendation is to just stay away from this album at all costs, as this is NOT money well spent.
Awesome CD overall.......2001-10-03
Though they are better live than on this CD, the CD is still quite impressive. There are many tracks on here that could have been singles.
i dont know.......2001-06-10
hate dept is an innovative technopop band which is something i have never said for any other band out there so i like alot of the album my favorites being WAIT, COMING DOWN, FIEND, AND FIREFLIES but alot of the songs are missing an element that u gotta have to be big on the radio possibly a big attention grabbing song much like a lot of newer bands have such as tantric. this song will get u buying and get the publics side so well shall see on their new release due soon
Simple and Boring.......2000-10-19
Hate Dept. isn't exactly a very innovative band. The lyrics aren't very deep or meaningful. Usually they are ambiguous and don't make much sense at all. The music isn't quite industrial, but it's not normal "hard rock" either. I suppose if you like horrible bands like Korn you should give this a listen.
After all of this griping, however, there is one gem on the album. Well, sort of. The song Release It is pretty good as it has a fast tempo, though the lyrics, again, are simple and ambiguous and without much meaning. Unfortunately, the version on the album is a bit lacking, but their Release It EP contains a version (the Empirion Mix) that anyone who likes fast-paced Cubanate-style industrial should enjoy.

Album Description
Space. The final frontier. This album is a product of late nights in the living room, kitchen, garage, and rehearsal space - but it sounds as though it was recorded in the cockpit of a Russian spacecraft spinning out of control, losing contact with those on Earth. So take a tug on the rug, sit back, and let it spin you.

This is thinking person's rock!.......2006-11-09
Reviewer: For the Hawaii Island Journal - Island Beat
By John Burnett For the Hawaii Island Journal - Island Beat Technical Difficulties: Butter Technical Difficulties is a band of eclectic, hip Eastside rockers who have taken some backwards steps the past couple of years due to personnel changes and members leaving the island. They came out of hibernation to play Countdown '04 at the Palace New Year's Eve and a CD release party at the same venue Jan. 10. I had forgotten how much I missed them until I popped this CD into the player New Year's Eve. This CD is light years ahead of their previous effort, 2002's "The Future Past Part 1: The Meantime," which I liked. RaVani Flood is now in front. Period. She is a charismatic performer and amazing lyricist, such as this example from "Briny Deep": "Drop my tears to beasts beneath/found in this salt menagerie/Child you've grown, seen all I've known/From this night forth, you are your own." She even penned a neo-Gregorian piece, "Boundless," sung in beautiful, stark, catholic Latin by a small choir directed by Amy Yamasaki. The lyrics, uncredited, are by the poet Horace: "o fortes peioraque passi mecum saepe viri, nunc vino pellite curas; cras ingens iterabimus aequor" and translate to "O you brave heroes, you who suffered worse with me often, drown your cares with wine; tomorrow, we'll sail the wide seas again." The arrangements of the choral music, by Flood and Hilo High School music teacher Wendell Ing, are both authentic and moving. The songs, all original, are complex, multilayered with unusual and often haunting harmonies. Two of the songs, "Funky Pants" and "Black as (Night)" were on the previous CD, but are reprised here with a better recording (in guitarist Trever Veilleux's garage studio) and mainland mastering (which makes a difference). The former contains Flood's incredible rock scat. Newer material includes "Briny Deep," "Sex is Easier" and "New York," which builds to a fever pitch with a foreboding choir's Latin incantation, "Fiat iustatia et pereat mundus!" ("Let justice prevail though the world perish!"), a variant of a quote attributed to Emperor Ferdinand I. The effect is much like that of Mozart's "Requiem." It is followed by Gardner DeAguiar's short and sweet neo-classical acoustic guitar piece "A Song for the Queen." This is thinking person's rock. `Nuff said.

Great Reunion CD!.......2000-03-21
This is great! It sure brings back memories.
OH MY GOD!.......2000-03-07
It just doesn't get any better than this... Monster rock is what this is. Amazing that these guys can play like this. Please Tour!
The Band Is Back And Better Than Ever!.......2000-02-05
When I heard Racer X had a new album out,I just had to get it. I have been a Racer X fan since 1990 when a friend turned me onto them because of Scott Travis, the drummer. His playing on this album is awesome. So is Paul Gilbert's,one of the best guitar players in the world. The songs all have a very heavy, fast groove to them that is just like Racer X's previous material. I was glad to see that they had gotten back together to record a new album. Hopefully, they'll keep it up and we'll get some more new stuff from them because they rock! I have all of Racer X's albums and this one is just another great chapter in their career. I am hoping they will tour and put out Live Extreme Volume 3.That would be the ultimate, these tracks recorded live along with the older material in a newer live album! Keep up the great music, and rock until there ain't nothing left to rock!
A very cool CD.......2000-01-25
First off, Paul Gilbert's guitar playing on this CD is truly terrifying! Now, I have been a Racer X fan since their first CD and saw them many times in clubs in LA. The first CD is their best ... it's pure metal with incredible guitar. The second CD was very good but added more pop elements to the songs (still metal but more polished). This CD has some elements of both but is more like Second Heat than Street Lethal. The highlights include "17th Moon" (very heavy), "Snakebite" (incredible shred solos), and the title tract (another great PG instumental). Also included are studio versions of "Poison Eyes" and "Give it to Me" (from the second live CD) and a fantastic cover of "Children of the Grave." If you're a Racer X fan, you must buy this CD ... period.
If you're into PG Stuff.......2000-01-19
Racer X's reunion definitely brings back memories of old. I you're into heavy shredding and want to listen to pure metal bliss....and of course get to listen to PG....my main man.....this album is it....worth the wait....worth the money!
