Customer Reviews:
BASS BASS BASS BASS.......2005-08-27
Great bass player displays his talent on this great collection of heavy, funky tunes. The songs remind me of King's X ofcourse and are arguably the best solo tunes by any member of the band. This was recorded around the same time the underrated Tapehead was and keeps the same great vibe alive. Red and Hey are great tunes. Listen up Poundbozo. Hauntingly some songs evoke the spirit of Hendrix- great heavy stuff.
Well, I had high expectations, but . . ........2003-03-20
I really thought this would be great after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, after listening to this CD a few times, it dawned on me just how uninspiring these songs really are. They are all about the same tempo and just don't have any enthusiasm.
My second complaint is the recording. This has got to be the muddiest mix that I've ever heard on a CD.
Not worth the trouble........2002-01-30
OK, having been a fan of Doug Pinnick (as a member of King's X) for 12 years I was looking forward to this. But I like only a handful of songs here. The bass is great, but do you really want to listen to Doug's moaning about life? Pass.
May I summarize?.......2002-01-20
The title of this album says it all. If you like grunge, buy it!
As to the other reviewers:
1) "Heavy bass?" Hey, it's Doug, isn't it? Would you have it any other way?
2) "Thick, syrupy grooves?" Oh yeah! Prepare to drown in them!
3) "Ballcrushing?" Absolutely, but don't expect this album's effect to be confined to any one portion of your anatomy. You WILL be completely and thoroughly pounded!
My only contribution is simple - this isn't King's X. It's Poundhound. Both are great, but the sounds and structure are very different. If you're looking for King's X, go buy Dogman. If you're looking for pure, unadulterated grunge, you've found it in "Massive Grooves". Buy it and enjoy it!
Massive Grooves indeed!!!.......2001-06-13
Doug Pinnick abandons his bandmates and flies on his own to deliver one the most thunderous, crunching and catchy cds in my personal catalog! No reason for over analysis here. As Doug has stated, "Don't dissect it. Just let the music be good to you." This music will be very good to you! Standouts include "Shake", "Blindeye", "Love", "Soul", and actually several others(I just didn't wanna name every song on the cd). Doug is at his best when it's left up to him and only him. No compromise. No outside ideas. Just Doug and his music. It is then that you see what a truly extraordinary musician he is!!
