Album Description
*A specially priced 2CD set with over 110 minutes of some of the greatest film music in the history of cinema.
*New digital recordings in spectacular and sound performed by the acclaimed City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and National Youth Jazz Band.
*Includes world premiere recordings from "The Birdman Of Alcatraz," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Airplane!" and "An American Werewolf In London."
*In 2004 the world of cinema lost one of the most iconic figures in film composing. In a career that spanned half-a-century and over 250 films, Elmer Bernstein was responsible for writing the music to many of the greatest and most loved movies of all time ranging from "The Ten Commandments," "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Great Escape," through to "True Grit" and "Airplane!" This collection has been lovingly created and compiled as a tribute to a genius and true master of the art of film scoring.
Customer Reviews:
Sad, Really Sad.......2007-05-13
These CDs don't meet the standards that I expect from Elmer Bernstein's wonderful film music.
*It's just Boring*
The ensemble doesn't have the energy one would expect to play "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Man with the Golden Arm". I think the City of Prague and National Youth Jazz Orchestras were bargain orchestras used to make an inexpensive CD set of one of my favorite film composers. The conducting and arrangements were what made this an obviously bad album.
An excellent movie themes antology by ELMER BERNSTEIN.......2007-05-10
Silva Screen Records, presents this antology of the music from the late great composer/conductor ELMER BERNSTEIN, who supervised this recording just before die.
Played the The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, and conducted by his one time assistant James Fitzpatrick
Recorded in HDCD and Dolby Surround
Excellent.......2007-04-22
it's unfortunate that more tracks weren't able to be recorded as theree was a good 15-20 minutes of space remaining on both discs. Regardless, this is an excellent sampler, especially in conjunction with Varese's Bernstein sampler including rare stuff like the Black Cualdron.
With regards to this silva set, these recordings range back to 1994, with Sons of Katie Elder and True Grit being recorded for a John Wayne CD and Bridge At Remagen for a CD of classic War themes. The Great Escape was also recorded for that CD, but producer James Fitzpatrick opted to record a new arrangement (same with Magnificent Seven). In '97, The Buccaneer for included on a Swashbucklers disc, while Heavy Metal was on the popular 'Space and Beyond' compilation. In '98, the world premiere recording of Airplane first appeared on a DISASTERS film disc. So while it may technically be the world premiere RECORDING it certainly is not the world premiere CD RELEASE of that recording. Ghostbusters was included on Space 3: Beyond the Final Frontier, the second followup to the popular 'Space and Beyond'. Fast forward to 2002 and 4 recordings first appeared on WAY OUT WEST: ESSENTIAL WESTERN FILM MUSIC COLLECTION VOLUME TWO, those being The Comancheros, The Hallelujah Trail, The Scalphunters and The Shootist. Man With the Golden Arm and Walk on the Wild are from Silva's JAZZ IN FILM cd.
The remaining tracks were all newly recorded for this release. They are of course the strongest tracks, seeing as the City of Prague Philharmonic has improved over time. I do wonder though why they did not include the older arrangements of Great Escape and Mag. Seven as bonus tracks.
I also recommend the simultaneously released '40 years of Film Music: Jerry Goldsmith' for another great set honoring a late great film composer.
Great Film Music.......2007-03-09
This is a great recording of some of the best film music ever. From the
great westerns to the Theme from Airplane to music he did for television,
Bernstein was one of the greatest.
Fun, Powerfull music.......2007-02-17
It's great! It brings back memories of my dad. He loved John Wayne and the old cowboys of the Magnificent Seven. But it's nice just to listen and relax (it's not all cowboy music).

Outstanding.......2007-06-07
This is an outstanding soundtrack, perhaps even better than the movie itself! I'm not familiar with the work of Elmer Bernstein and I didn't like the movie very much, but the music narrates everything that the film by itself couldn't show. Brilliant!
The masterpiece of Scorsese is the masterpiece of Elmer Bernstein.......2006-11-10
The late Elmer Bernstein is a true virtuoso of talent and different genres. Here, the period-drama of director Martin Scorsese (Taxi driver, The Departed), Bernstein draws us the picture of love, suffering, denial, and lifelong longing. The music is simply perfect, sensitive, sensual, one of the best of this magnificent composer. A Modern classic.
A Romantic Work Of Art.......2000-05-19
This soundtrack features 29 songs composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein, with the exception of 3 songs. The CD insert features a bio on Elmer and includes a few pictures from the movie. The songs are peaceful and relaxing to listen to. One song not included on the soundtrack is Enya's Marble Halls (played during the scene when the men are holding onto their derbies during the gusty winds). I would highly recommend this soundtrack, especially for anyone who enjoyed the movie. The movie itself helped to capture the quintessence of New York's high society and one can learn quite a bit about the Victorian era, such as its formal dining, fashion, etc., by observing background details. Great movie and a great soundtrack!
A Masterpiece.......2000-02-26
Why the paucity of reviews for this extraordinary musical achievement in comparison with other, less acomplished OST's? This music is a joy to listen to. It is Victorian or Romantic classical work on par with the best from that era. It deserves much more than 5 stars. I highly recommend it.
Bernstein's best work in years!!!!.......1999-05-07
This score is Bernstein's best work in years, probably the best since "Magnificent Seven". He fully absorbed the feelings and style of the Age of Innocence and transformed them into a stunning film-score.The best cues are "Ellen at the shore" and the "Main Title". This CD ranks among my favorite Soundtracks of all time, although the film itself was only upper intermediate level!

Product Description
This is a collection of 12 arrangements for piano of popular LDS/Christian children songs composed and performed by one of America's best-selling pianists, Paul Cardall. No matter what faith you are, each piece flows with simple universal emotion. They tenderly capture the innocence and spiritual development of a child. Memorable melodies at a reverent tone.

Great Sabath Music!!.......2007-06-11
I love to play this in the car while driving to church or during quiet times.
Serene Piano Music That Soothes.......2007-03-08
I first heard of this album from a friend who played the sheet music in our Primary as prelude and postlude music. "I am a Child of God" and "Oh, What do you do in the Summertime" are my favorite tracks, but that may just be because they are the ones I first experienced. I also really enjoy "My Heavenly Father Loves Me". That is my favorite Primary song, and the addition of a sonorous and grounding cello through parts of the arrangement compliments the lilting melody played in the upper registers of the piano. I finally bought the album as a Christmas gift to myself and my family. My two little ones, ages 2 and 5, really respond to the lullaby quality of the tones that help to invite the Spirit of God. My husband is often gone from home as he works full-time and is also a full-time student- so I listen to it nearly every day, and it soothes my frazzled, "stay-at-home mom" nerves ("Music soothes the savage Mom"). I definitely recommend this album and am looking forward to giving it as a gift to my family and friends. I hope it will do as much for them as it does for me. I have not heard other albums of Paul Cardall, so I cannot speak to how this album relates to his other works, but I look forward to having that opportunity in the future as I am able to purchase other albums. This album alone definitely encourages me to take the plunge and purchase other, unheard music by the same composer/arranger.

Wonderful Material!!.......2002-01-07
I have heard the lion's share of this cd on Anthology and am wondering why other reviewers didn't hear it the way I did? There are some stellar songs on the cd. Full Circle, Sacred Ground and Just the Thought of Losing You are classic Jon Cain. Super lyrics and wonderful melody. Who could ask for anything more? :-)
Not Bad But Nothing Different.......2000-06-25
Even for 1995, this is a fairly unoriginal collection by one of Journey's main contributors. His redo of "Faithfully" does nothing new for the song, nor does it enhance the original recording. "Back to the Innocence" and "Baptism Day" are fairly decent, but overall it's a so-so effort. I can see why he's sticking to instrumental CDs these days; he is an EXCELLENT keyboardist.
Journey keyboard wizard on laid back album.......2000-03-23
Without a doubt Jonathan Cain is a very talented keyboard player and songwriter, but I was a little disappointed with this 1995 mainly acoustic effort. Missing are the trademark Journey-type rockers that Cain co-wrote on such albums as ESCAPE or FRONTIERS, and a much more laid back, easy listening album was completed. A couple of great songs, but a little more energy would have been a great asset. Still, well produced.

Simply Tentalizing.......2003-02-14
I first heard Esteban at a Border's bookstore in California. He captured my heart and my senses with the "Serenda to the Moon" album. His fingers create absolute magic on the piano keys and he talks to you through each of his notes. It's romantic, it's sad and happy all the same time.

Album Description
INNOCENCE is all about trust. Trust is one of the keys that assist you in learning to build the bridge between your outer and inner life. INNOCENCE works by being very soothing and nurturing, yet stimulating to your inner worlds. The stronger this bridge, the more keen your intuition becomes. Thus your inner journey of self-discovery, aided by your intuition, becomes one of freedom. So it is very important to have trust in order to unlock the true riches of life. INNOCENCE is a very beautiful composition and one that you won't want to miss in your life's journey.
For example, there was a Neo-Natal nurse who played INNOCENCE for all the newborn babies in a hospital nursery. She had one case where a baby had a brain stem injury. The doctors were sure the baby would die. The nurse played INNOCENCE for this child continuously. The baby is now home and can recognize its parents and even smiles.

Album Description
The newest CD by award-winning composer Kurt Bestor captures the warmth, poignancy, and richness of Richard Paul Evans' latest book, The Dance. Using intimate orchestration (piano, acoustic guitar, harp, fiddle, percussion, woodwinds and string quartet), Bestor paints a memorable picture that follows the story of a young girl who dances her way from the innocence of childhood through the impetuousness of her teens to the promise of womanhood and finally, full circle, into her father's arms. The album makes an intriguing companion to Evans' prose.
Customer Reviews:

Sounds like Dolly Parton had too much to drink.......2007-05-01
WHAT the hell is this...bluegrass or funeral music. I know, it's bluegrass combo country funeral music. This is the junk you play when you are carrying the casket out of the Limo and walking it to the burrying plot. Sure as hell who wants to think about death...or the possibility that hell just might be real?? What if it does exist? Thinking of death and listing to funeral procession type songs only seem to remind you of the afterlife. You'll better make sure you are Christians just in case there really is a hell...you don't want to be going there.
Soulful.......2000-01-07
I'm just getting into the world of bluegrass and folk and have been amazed by this album. She has such a soulful voice and her talent and passion for the music shine through on most tracks. You won't regret buying it!
Great Voice, Superb Instrumental Work, Dynamite Album!.......1999-03-25
I bought this album based on a couple of reviews and the fact that it was nominated for a Grammy. I must say that I have nearly worn it out in the past year and a half! Kate MacKenzie has such a terrific soulful voice that will take no time at all getting under your skin, and soon it will have gone straight to your heart. It is down-home and irresistable! She interprets her songs with such profound feeling and is backed by absolutely outstanding musicians, such as John Reischman on mandolin, Tony Furtado on banjo, Rob Ickes on dobro, and Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Their wonderful instrumental work so beautifully compliments Kate MacKenzie's fabulous voice! If I had to choose my favorites on this album, which isn't easy, they would include her interpretation of Mick Hanly's "Past the Point of Rescue", the soulful "Blue Lonesome Wind", the delightful "What's the Matter with the Mill?", and the Greg Brown song "Driftless". Kate MacKenzie is one very fine singer who deserves a lot more attention and recognition for her talent, and this is one truly fine album!
WOW! Kate MacKenzie is great........1999-01-13
I love this CD. I've seen Kate MacKenzie a couple of times and very much enjoyed both her live performanaces and these CDs. She combines her own bluegrass material with traditional favorites and always injects a sense of immediacy and interest even to songs that I've heard many times before. I am hoping that we will get another CD from her soon!

Enormously Disappointing.......2004-10-01
As a big Bernstein fan, I was looking forward to this comp. But I couldn't even make it through one listen. I found it insipid, saccharine. The main idea behind this comp seems to be to stuff every recognizable theme Bernstein ever wrote into one set while cutting out all other sections including any variations or development. They've cut the meat out of the music and left only the fat. The playing is stiff, the tempos are rushed, the arrangements are terrible. Don't waste your time.
Fantastic!!!.......2002-06-07
Fabulous recording. Puts you right in the saddle with the Duke, The Magnificent Seven or Charlton Heston's sandals! Power, scope, range, variety and total magnificence - this has it all. By far the best movie sound-track recording of all!
Sit Up and Listen.......2001-06-28
You pop this CD in to your player and the glorios Magnificent Seven theme knocks you off your feet. I'd forgotten how good it was, an icon of testerone flowing unchecked. Then there is the touching innocent To Kill a Mockingbird theme. Starting with a simple music box theme, the music builds to a dramatic climax, as if all the emotion suddenly exploded. The Great Escape track is, I think, one of the very best march compositions of all time. With the tuba providing the baseline with its own melody, then the light brass, perky and upbeat, providing the second melody, this theme instantly evokes both the fatigue and robotic obedience required of prisoners and the brassy indomitable spirit characteristic of the RAF flyers. If you listen carefully you hear the deeper brass (French Horns) take up the theme and give it a more somber character, as yet another melody is sustained in the background. The Ten Commandments stands alone as a wonderful heroic piece. Buy the CD for any one track and you will be pleasantly surprised by the remainder.
The Best Bernstein Sampler Yet!.......2000-05-21
Varese Sarabande has cheery picked from some of the finest (and most famous) film scores ever composed (and some of the best performances thereof yet recorded) in the second half of the last century. There are samples from sixteen film scores by Mr. Bernstein presented here (and since this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg for this prolific, spectacularly-talented composer, let's hope there will be many more Bernstein compositions to come!). It's beyond great to have all 16 film scores represented on one CD, even though most/all of these tracks are available off other CDs (CD-burner freaks, you've been left at the gate, or, rather, the CD-R/W drive on this one!). It does get a bit confusing trying to figure out all the source material (there's Bernstein right off the film sound track, Bernstein conducting the Utah Symphony Orchestra, Bernstein conducting the Royal Scottish Orchestra, Mr. Joel McNeely conducting the Royal Scottish Orchestra, McNeely conducting Seattle Symphony orchestra, Mr. Cliff Eidelman conducting the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and so it goes). But quit making your brain ache; just spin up this CD and let your ears do their thing. And what a wonderful thing those ears will do. Mr. Bernstein, a master of tonality (like Erich Wolfgang Korngold before him), is probably best enjoyed in spurts or in selective film-score "cues"--mainly his opening/closing credit cues, since his scores tend to sag and become less dramatic in between. This CD focuses on the composer's strengths: mostly those opening/closing credit cues you can't help hearing in your mind over and over again. Although the performances are (as previously noted) from many sources, I can't find fault with a single one. The same goes with the recording/mastering/re-mastering. All first rate. One question remains: why are you still reading this write up when you could be buying the CD to empower your ears!
