5 out of 5 stars A lot of atmosphere, nice mixing.......2007-07-31

If the Michael Savage radio show can use "Looks That Kill" in the opening theme, then you know there's music here that is strong enough to transcend it's "genre": metal, rock and roll, rock... I'm more '50s, '60s, so the song "Girls! Girls! Girls!" has personal reference as a Coasters/Elvis Presley tune of the same title. But MC's number stands on its' own - a classic, done even better on stage.
"Dr. Feelgood" is another songtitle found elsewhere but while in playback stands up for counting.
Tommy Lee is a great stylist and for new fans this is not a bad place to start studying his work.

5 out of 5 stars Finally, a great "LIVE" CD!!!.......2005-12-24

What can I say?? This is one of the best "LIVE" CD's of all time! Let's face it, most "Live" albums sacrifice some music quality and clarity. Not this one! This "LIVE" CD puts the listener at the front of the stage with Motley's sweat & booze falling right on them!! A must have for someone who hasn't had the "sinful" pleasure of attending a Motley show! Buy this CD, close your eyes, and YOU WILL be there!!!

4 out of 5 stars I like it!.......2005-06-27

Motley Crue's only "live" album,"Live-Entertainment or Death" is entertaining.I like it.First of all, don't get confused-this is NOT an official live album. It is a collection of Motley Crue's live performances on two discs;the songs on here that Motley Crue performed live that were selected were performed live in the seventeen year time span of 1982-1999.Think of it as a greatest hits package of Motley Crue's greatest songs all performed live. Pretty much all of The Crue's classic songs from 1982-1991 are here, and some performances of Crue songs that usually do NOT appear on their compilations(Knock 'Em Dead,Kid,Public Enemy #1,Merry-Go-Round,Ten Seconds To Love, etc.)were included here. And here's more good news-there are some rare photos inside the liner notes and also inside the CD case(You'll see the photos in there when You take disc two out to put it on and listen to it)and Paul Miles,a die hard Crue fan, wrote a few small notes about Motley Crue and their concerts-the packaging of this two disc collection of live songs is really nice. They even mentioned the dates the songs on here were performed live and who recorded and enginnered them. And don't forget about this-disc two is enhanced with Motley Crue's classic video for "Wild Side"-how cool is that????!!!! Very cool!!!!

Even though there is not to much to complain about with this CD,a few things could be brought up,which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. The sound on here,at times,is a little bit poor, and on SOME performances on this CD,Vince Neil's voice is a little bit shot at times. And what's up with Motley Crue's live performances of The Beatles'"Helter Skelter" that was selected for this CD? Don't get me wrong,I like The Beatles,I like that song, and I also think Motley Crue did a good job at re-doing it when it came time for them to make their "Shout At The Devil" album. But the live version of it on here is embarrasing-it should have remained shelved and replaced with a live performance of "You're All I Need",which was originally written and recorded for "Girls,Girls,Girls".But everything else here, for the most part,is in top form-the best live performances on here are Motley Crue's live cover version(they also recorded it in a studio, just so You don't get confused)of Brownsville Station's "Smokin' In The Boys Room"(you even hear a harmonica accompany the music and lyrics of this track during the performance, and Vince Neil's dialogue on it is pretty funny),and the live version of "Shout At The Devil"-I won't give it away, but wait until you hear it-it sounds awesome!

Check this out-hopefully other hair metal groups like Slaughter,Warrant, etc. who have released live albums before(Motley Crue has not yet released any official live albums of one concert, but I heard that they are releasing a DVD of them live and in concert on their current reunion tour next year)will do exactly what The Crue has done here.

4 out of 5 stars "The Hollywood Bad Boys...MOTLEY CRUE!".......2004-02-24

This double-live album released in 1999 symbolizes Motley Crue's real return of the original line-up. The album really captures the band's power on stage. The album is loud, heavy, and is a true Motley Crue MASTERPIECE. Vince's vocals are excellent, Mick and Nikki have never played better and Tommy's drums are loud and phenomenal. This live piece captures the great performances of Motley Crue's greatest hits to date.

The opening "Looks That Kill" is excellent. Tommy is doing a little intro drum solo and the announcer screams, "From Hollywood, California. The Hollywood Bad Boys....MOTLEY CRUE!" Then the guitars and Vince starts singing his heart out. Then if you jump to "Too Young To Fall In Love" the performance of this Motley classic is outstanding. The vocals are what makes this live piece the best. Then next is the classic "Live Wire." This is one of the best live tunes on this album. There is a lot of power behind this live piece and the band did a great job with this one.

Now, skip a couple track and then we get into the real stuff. Let's start with the legendary "Shout At The Devil." The song starts with the original "In The Beginning" dialogue and then Vince screams, "SHOUT AT THE DEVIL!" This is definitley on of the best performance on this whole album if not the best. The next track is Motley Crue's first ballad, "Merry-Go-Round." This is an excellent tune and the live version is so much better than the studio version. If you already heard the studio version, you'll love this live version.

Now let's jump to the 2nd CD. The opener for this, "Smokin' In The Boy's Room" is phenomenal and the song is played for over 5 minutes than the original 3-4 minutes on the studio version. The band had a lot of fun with this song. It rocks all the way. Then skip to "Wild Side." The song starts with Tommy talkin to the crowd. This is definitley in the top three best songs of the album. It's heavy, loud, crazy and is pure Crue. The vocals are great and Tommy, Nikki and Mick did a great job on the beats and the riffs. The next track is Motley Crue's classic "Girls, Girls, Girls." This version is so much better than the studio version. The guitars are better, the drums are better and Vince's vocals are better. Then jump to the ballads "Without You" and "Home Sweet Home." The first of the two, "Without You" is excellent. Vince sings this song is a very passionate and loving tone that you haven't seen before. Then "Home Sweet Home." This one is so full of power live. I'd say this one is a little better than "Without You." The last track, "Kickstart My Heart" is good. I'd say this is the somewhat below par song of the album because if you've heard the studio version you know it's hard to capture that tune as good as in the studio. That's one of the reasons why I gave the album a 4.

Buy this Motley Crue live album and you won't be dissapointed. Where the album title says "Entertainment or Death", after you listen to album, it's all ENTERTAINMENT. So buy this album and let the Hollywood Bad Boys entertain you. Rock On Motley Crue!

3 out of 5 stars MAYBE DEATH WOULD BE BETTER.......2003-01-30

i have always loved the crue. i have all their studio albums. so when i picked this up i was somewhat disappointed. to keep it simple, vince neil just kills this disc. he sounds like he's running out of breath while singing the songs. if you've seen his mid-section lately than its no wonder! die-hard fans will enjoy, but not something i would recommend to introduce the band to a new listener!

4 out of 5 stars Live and raw!!!.......2002-11-11

It sounds very live and very raw. Obviously those live songs weren't tweaked at the studio before the album was released. But it's ok. We all know Vince couldn't sing that good and it shows. It is the opposite route from the one Prince took with his Sign of the Times live VHS, the one which was tweaked in the studio to the point that he did most of the vocals over. This Motley CD is for die-hard fans only who already knew all the songs by heart.

5 out of 5 stars I loved it.......2002-09-27

All I have to say is I loved this album, despite their age this guys still rock.
I also have they last DVD, whish is very similar to this collection of songs.
If you like good rock & roll get this one, it really worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars All the attitude...but no Generation Swine........2001-08-20

Why did they not include songs from the "Generation Swine" abum? That's not that big of a deal though. From the Sunset Strip to your speakers, this is one wild ride through all the sex, drugs, and rock n' roll that any other band wouldn't be able to handle.
