The fact that Alice Cooper's fourth release housed the gritty "Halo of Flies" would be reason enough to buy the CD, even if the rest of it were garbage. An essential piece of the rock canon, it may not have served up the hits that his other releases did, but it still stands as a classic. Loud, brash, sloppy, and hard, it's the kind of listen that makes you check for grime under your nails. Cooper's rock/shock aesthetic was coming into full bloom here and "Dead Babies" shows he was satisfied with his formula of hard rock, bad taste, and images outside the realm of Middle America. The title track hints at the shape of things to come, laying the ground work for works as seemingly disparate as "Only Women Bleed," and "No More Mr. Nice Guy." Briefly ostracized by the "hipper than thou" sect, Killer is one of the reasons Cooper is now fully appreciated as the pioneer that he was. - -Steve Gdula

The original Alice Cooper Band's arguable finest moment 35 plus years on.......2007-08-02
Alice Cooper, the man and the band, released its fourth album Killer in November of 1971.
By the time of Killer, Alice Cooper had a Top 40 album with Love it to Death and a hit with "I'm Eighteen" so the pressure was on lead singer Vincent Furnier (a/k/a Alice Cooper), guitarist Glen Buxton, drummer Neal Smith, bass player Dennis Dunaway and guitarist Michael Bruce to deliver an album tthat would make Alice rock legends or a one-hit wonder. Read on and find out, as I did when I first got the cassette tape on October 6, 1989 (almost two months after I dicovered Alice on In the Studio which spotlighted Billion Dollar Babies and had his 1974 Greatest Hits album) and I now own on CD.
We begin with the classic hit "Under My Wheels" which was a massive bluesy hard rocker. Buxton and Bruce chug out the riff superbly. Also, this was the first Alice Cooper track to feature a horn section and an uncredited appearance by Rick Derringer who played the lead solos on the track. Next is another rocker called "Be My Lover". The track is somewhat of an autobiographical nature of a groupie who falls for the band. Next is the classic eight minute-plus epic called "Halo Of Flies". This track was the band's arguable masterwork pre-1973. We end the first half with the piece called "Desperado". The track was about gunfights in the old west and was written in tribute to fallen Doors frontman, Jim Morrison, who had passed away earlier in 1971. Great piece and was also the first Alice track to use an orchestra. In some parts of the track, Cooper's voice even resembles Morrison's!
The album's second half starts with the proto-type punk number called "You Drive Me Nervous" which was a great number. Then it's another great rocker called "Yeah Yeah Yeah" which is not a tribute to The Beatles but a classic Cooper track. Next is one of the first rock songs to tackle child abuse called "Dead Babies". This excellent rocker may not have been liked by many parents but it helped expose the child neglect/abuse problem (just like what is going on with Britney Spears and her neglect to her own kids). This track is just stellar. Court disorder from "Dead Babies"' finale segues into the closing seven minute title cut. This piece starts out as a typical Alice Cooper rocker about a killer before it goes into different tempos and key changes. Then a death march begins and then the weird sounds at album's end is the killer's execution.
Killer rightfully reached #21 on the Billboard album chart and became his first Gold selling album in a quick span of time (today it is Platinum in US sales). Killer is one of the quintessential hard rock/metal albums along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath's first four albums, Deep Purple's In Rock and Machine Head and many others!
Recommended!
Halo Of Flies.......2007-06-13
Yeah, this album is great. However, there is one track that really stands out "Halo Of Flies", That song is a jaw-dropping, hard rocking masterpiece. High praise for the album. Especially "Halo Of Flies"
"Killer is killer." .......2007-05-20
Alice Cooper is my favorite musical artist. I listen to a lot of different types of rock. I listen to anything from Meat Loaf- King Diamond- Rob Zombie- Avril Lavigne but Alice is my favorite. Killer contains probably some of his most famous and yet sometimes underrated songs. Halo of Flies, Desperado, Under my Wheels, Be My Lover, Dead Babies, and of course the title track are great classic rock cuts. You Drive me Nervous and Yeah, Yeah, Yeah are also good tracks but they don't match up to the previosly mentioned tracks. Cooper is the god of rock/metal music in my eyes and this is perhaps one of his best albums. I'm 17 years old and have only been a music fan for probably 3 years but Alice has been with me from the beginning and has continued to amaze me.
Best album by Alice Cooper.......2007-04-23
Studio album released in 1971, by the original band-a real band with Alice Cooper, Neal Smith, Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce, and Glen Buxton. I think the other band members (apart from Cooper), got the short end of the stick. This album, along with these 'Love it to death', 'Billion dollar babies', and 'Love it to death' are so vastly superior to 'his' other albums. The band plays and writes really well together as a 'real' band. Case in point, listen to 'Dada' from a few years later-dreadful! Just wish he had kept a proper band together, even if he fealt that they were not as musically good as some of the late session musicians. Rock is about feel, more than technique in my opinion. I can't even listen to 'Dada' or
Killer, all right.......2007-03-14
Coop really deserves more credit for inventing the "melodic hard-rock" subgenre. Yes, it later gave way to hair-metal (bleargh), but in the proper hands it could be amazing. Alice Cooper are among those "proper hands", so what this album does best is tight, crafty, melodic hard rock - loud and gritty, but hummable and well-performed, often with funny lyrics. Classics such as the self-referential groupie anthem Be My Lover and horn-powered rocker Under My Wheels, as well as should-be classics like the punkish Yeah, Yeah, Yeah and swaggering You Drive Me Nervous fit the bill there.
But sometimes you have to wonder what my man Alice was smoking. Like on Dead Babies... that is one weird song. Dark, creepy stuff. And hey, if you're going to protest child abuse, you might as well make it dark and creepy, right? Sure enough, it's one of the album's several standouts, a chilling tale of Little Betty's "adventures" with a pound of aspirin. Desparado is so far removed from the rest of the album, it's like it's by a completely different band. It's not the Eagles song, thank god - it's a dark, moody, cinematic masterpiece with a spot-on, Jim Morrison-esque vocal from Alice. Morrison happened to be one of Coop's drinking buddies. Talk about friends in high places!
But Jim must've slipped something funny into Alice's drink one night, becuase the two songs I've yet to discuss are pure crap. Halo of Flies and the title song both are random jams that completely fall apart. It's not that the group didn't have the chops to pull them off (they did), but assorted wanking without even the slightest hint of song structure is NOT what the group does best. That's what you leave to the jazz artists. Okay, I'm not gonna close this on a negative note - this is their best release ever, and one of the best hard rock albums out there. It's also probably the highest four-star I've ever given - had even one of the two jams been dropped, I would've forgotten about the other and boosted it to five (secretly 4.5, though). Okay, I'm being negative again, and I don't want to be because this is one solid album, easily the group's finest work.

Three great albums, one great price.......2007-05-24
This set contains all the material from Fly to the Rainbow, In Trance, and Virgin Killer! I had been waiting for remastered versions of these albums to be released in the US, as they did with Lonesome Crow, Taken By Force, and Tokyo Tapes. Since that hasn't happened, this is your best alternative.
The standard warning on 70's era Scorpions music applies here. This isn't the Scorpion's everyone knows and loves from the 1980's. Their sound was very different during the 1970's due to Ulrich Roth's influence. His songs are more jazzy/psychedelic and his singing is very different than Klaus Meine's, or anyone else you've ever heard. Someone exploring 1970's era Scorpions for the first time may want to start with Taken By Force or the excellent live album Tokyo Tapes as the price is much lower and both albums are a good representation of the band's sound during this time. For everyone else familiar with the Scorpions of the 1970's, buy this set! You won't be disappointed. Where else can you get three great import albums for under $40?
THE 2, I MEAN THE 3 BEST SCORPIONS ALBUMS EVER.......2007-05-16
these are truly the best scorpions albums ever... In Trance and Virgin Killer. Very well digitally mastered and complete with liner notes and photos but the best is... The 7 bonus tracks are actually all 7 tracks from the second album Fly to the Rainbow. Digitally mastered. So you actually get 3 albums at a very good price. Since these were the only 3 albums left unmastered now you can have all the catalogue remastered and sounding good...

Beware.......2007-06-04
The low rating does not refer to the quality of the songs in this album, which is, of course, a total Scorpions classic. The low rating is to thsi edition especifically. It is not remastered, the sound is crap, one of the worst transfers from LP to CD that I have witnessed. Just be warned.
buy this album its Ulis last scorp album.......2007-05-14
an excellent early scorpions release. Uli Roths final album with the crew.
Another must have.
THE best Uli Roth album,hands-down (whatever that means)!!.......2007-03-01
Virgin Killer is the ultimate Roth-era Scorpions record for me.The others are good, but this one just rocks more and has more variety, not to mention Uli is balls out on almost every track.Catch Your Train stands up to the legendary performance of Sails Of Charon quite well,in my opinion.I actually prefer it,as it just seems even heavier, and Uli is shredding all over the place. The whacked out chord in Crying Days will stick in your mind forever. There are so many great guitar moments on this disc,I could go on and on...the solo on Backstage Queen....the entire Hendrix-tinged Polar Nights.....just magic.
If you only get one Uli Roth cd,let this be the one.
A very good album.......2007-02-23
This is a really good album if you like old scorpions (Uli Roth era). I don't think it's quite as good as the other uli-roth albums (Taken by Force, Fly to the Rainbow, In Trance) but still good. (It has some excellent individual songs, but as an entire album it just doesn't have quite the same energy. Just my opinion.) Worth adding to the collection, though, if you're a fan.
Virgen Killer (SCORPIONS).......2006-11-23
Virgen Killer was a pretty good album for the year that came out and during that era the sound was raw and original this album has been part of my collection for many years,I do wanna point out that there's a missinformation from the EDITORIAL REVIEWS Michael Schenker had nothing to do with this album, the album you're refering to is LOVEDRIVE 1979 He played lead guitar on 3 songs after quiting UFO and went on to form his own band THE MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP (MSG)!

Killer B's tuned to A.......2007-04-04
OK this product can be looked at in two ways. Either simply for it's music or in a wider context.
Firstly the music. Based just on this there isn't a lot here to make this a mandatory purchase for your averagle metalhead. A few live numbers and a few covers of varying levels of interest. It would really be up to the individual to decide what ones they prefer. Apart from that this disc has a few Anthrax curiosities for the completist though they are mostly joke tunes.
Secondly the wider context. That is that this disc was billed as an EP despite clocking in at over 40 minutes. Many bands would call this an album. Anthrax have here put together a nifty little package aimed squarely at their fans. This was never intended to be treated as the next Anthrax album -as the liner notes state - and any fan of this band who approaches this release in the right frame of mind will be rewarded with an amusing and worthwhile package of curios. Pluse the liner notes are genuinely useful and interesting.
Three stars - an average of two stars for the music alone is worth and the four stars the idea and band behind this release deserve for this useful 'round up' of odds and sods from the vault.
For the newcomer, no way. For the fan, for sure, snap it.
Good Slapdash Set of Odds and Ends.......2006-11-22
Anthrax, thrash metal, fun. Yes, we know.
Now, what about the material on the disc? Overall, its pretty good. "Milk (Ode To Billy)" is about a boy who wants milk for his cereal. It sounds like standard Anthrax song. Meshing the goofyness with the sonic aggression brings a smile to my face. The rest of the album proceeds in a similar tasteful fashion. For the most part...
The live tracks are okay, but they throw off the momentum of the studio tracks. And the re-make of "I'm the Man" blows.
But man, the rest of the material is quite good. Any fan of the band, or even just any sort of faster-than-average metal, should consider adding this to their collection at some point.
Nice album.......2006-04-23
I am no much familiar with Anthrax discography but I own this album and I really like it.Bring The Noise (with Public Enemy) is a killer,Keep It In The Family and Belly Of The Beast are also very successfull, the other songs in the album are not bad.
very good.......2005-08-29
Startin' Up A Posse is one of the all time greatest songs, so make sure you get the version of this CD that contains the song. All the songs are fun to listen to, even though I was never really a fan of Persistance of Time that much. Long live OLD ANTHRAX!
What happened here?.......2005-08-25
[...]
This album from anthrax just sucks. The songs Bring the noise and I'm the man 91 is lame. I'm the man 91 is a rap metal song that I guess is a sequel the I'm the man. It sounds like those limp biskit fags. And the songs with the highest quality are not even that decent. Oh yeah, bring the noise is another rap metal song that anthrax failed to do well. If you want rap metal from anthrax that's acually good, get I'm the man. It's awsome, funny, and the album includes a cover song from black sabbath. This time anthrax let me down.

Great White's Best and First (Of Course).......2005-11-29
RAW and ORIGINAL !!! Not what most bubble gummer glam people have heard from great white, but remember... it was this album that got Great White noticed, Got them there contract, which eventually moved them into there glammish pop ballad mush music that most people know. If your looking for there typical most often heard pop songs... then youll be dissaappointed. But If you want there best ROCK... then this is it. What I am saying is simiular to.... shall we say metallica's first album, as in rough and raw 80's rock before they changed. Im not saying that this album rocks as much as, or sounds like, the first metallica (Kill Them all), doesnt even come close, i am saying this was the real Great White before they changed to pop glam radio play. Play this song by Carcass... (I Told You So) CORPORATE ROCK REALLY DOES SUCK (by Carcass) and you'll really understand the whole story isnt it the truth eh?
This album starts out really good and fades about halfway (typ.)

By far their best, now even better with the bonus tracks!.......2006-01-13
I remember hearing the song "Dirty Weapons" on some metal compilation and I just thought, what a great song. I had to check out more of the Killer Dwarfs. I remember seeing a video on MTV years and years ago where I think his name is Russ is in box being bounced around town. I can't remember the song but a very interesting video. I never saw it again. Needless to say label support was lacking with this band. That is why they didn't get the video rotation or airplay back then. Evidence is this here album or should I say CD. The material on this is strong rock and even contains a power ballad, "Doesn't Mattter", a prerequisite in the 80's hair band days. The band liked it so much they released it again on the "Method To The Madness" CD, the era from where this recording hails. Anyway let's get to the music.
1. Dirty Weapons 10/10. Just fantastic
2. Nothin' Gets Nothin' 9/10 Great riffs
3. All That We Dream 9/10 Great beat
4. Doesn't Matter 8/10 I am not a huge power ballad fan but a good song nonetheless.
5. Last Laugh 8/10 a good rocker
6. Comin' Through 10/10 Another of the big songs from this release.
7. One Way Out 9/10 very good song that keeps the momentum up
8. Appeal 7/10 one of the weaker songs
9. Not Foolin' 9/10 more great riffs
10. Want It Bad 9/10 great closer
Most if not all of these songs have catchy chorus and just meaty guitar riffs. Very underrated album from the 80's. but wait. There is more. 5 BONUS TRACKS from the "Method To The Madness" CD. Not nearly as good of an album but the 2 best tunes are included here in "Method To The Madness" & "Cowboys And Conmen". The other 3 tracks are competent enough but "Dirty Weapons" the CD was still their best release. Check it out and see if you don't agree with me. The Bonus tracks just help make this an even better CD. Recommended for all fans of 80's metal.
Spectacular rock gem! .......2004-09-06
This record is really good!!! I wore out my cassette back in the 90's so I had to buy it on disc. Very underrated band that were talented and made really fun, rock music. Dirty Weapons, Last Laugh, Coming Through(my ode to the liberals), Not Foolin and Want it bad are just some of the gems here. A must buy. It should've sold at least 5 million, easy. Oh well, I bought it and that's all that matters. I'm happy and you will be too, so get it, now. This is one of the last real good metal records to come out before the horrible grunge sound ruined it all. This is a must have. Buy it, crank it up and grab a cold one...rock on. Go Dunk!!!
Santa's worst nightmare.......2003-10-21
With a name like Killer Dwarfs, how could you go wrong? Oh, you've never heard of them? Well, neither did I until 12 years ago when I forgot to send back that damn music club reply card. I found the band's fourth album, Dirty Weapons in my mailbox. To my surprise, they blew me away!
Formed in 1981, Killer Dwarfs established a solid following in their home country of Canada with their self-titled debut. In 1984 the U.S. started to take notice when the band released Keep the Spirit Alive, the first single from their sophomore album entitled Stand Tall. The accompanying video was added to regular rotation on MTV. Later that year Killer Dwarfs were signed by Epic Records to a worldwide deal. The band released their second album for Epic, Dirty Weapons in 1990.
The title track opens the album with a driving metal riff that says, "Let's rock!" (Though the message is highly political.) Russ Dwarf has a great melodic voice, which can be compared to Jack Russell (Great White) but with a much higher range. Guitarist Mike Dwarf tears it up with catchy hooks, and shredding solos in the vain of George Lynch (Dokken) among others. All of the songs including "Nothing Gets Nothing", "All That We Dream", "Last Laugh", and "Coming Through" have the typical metal format: Opening riff, verse, chorus, solo, back to verse. But, isn't that what we loved about 80's metal? "One Way Out" has a 'bluesy' tone to it. As the album winds down with "Appeal", "Not Fooling", and "Want it Bad", the music loses the punch that the earlier songs had, but are still great melodic pieces. The bands biggest hit off the album was "It Doesn't Matter", an acoustic ballad. It went to number one in 13 cities.
If you're a fan of 80's metal, you need to pick up Dirty Weapons. It's a great metal album that got lost in the shuffle.
This album is killer, dude!.......2001-06-10
I'm wondering who will be reading this review? About the only person that might be checking out Killer Dwarfs stuff is Jim Bob Dwarf. Oh well. I bought the original version of this back in 1990. I just thought they had a cool name and wondered what they sounded like. To my suprise, this was a pretty good album. It has an 80's melodic metal sound. No filler here. I also have the album that the extra tracks come from. Those songs are pretty good too. I would recommend this to anyone who liked late 80's metal and has some money to burn. GO DUNK!!
Follow-up to BIG DEAL.......2001-01-22
Made in USA in 2000, Serial# COL-6451, Playing Time: 61 min.
This is KD's 4th album, originally released in 1990. This re-mastered version includes 5 bonus tracks lifted from their next album, "Method To The Madness" (another 6 tracks appeared on the "Big Deal" re-mastered CD). Left out of these re-issues is the re-recorded version of "Doesn't Matter".
"Dirty Weapons" is a nice follow-up to "Big Deal", and shows that the band has evolved: the material has more complex arrangements, not as "simple and catchy" as "Big Deal". It takes a few listens to absorb, and I don't like it as much as "Big Deal"; it has good guitar work and is well produced.
Listen to the tracks "Dirty Weapons" and "All That We Dream": the first is more in the vein of the "Big Deal" album, while the latter represents the general "sound" of "Dirty Weapons".
And if you're like me and both tracks appeal to you, you're in for a treat if you get both albums from this under-rated band.

80's Melodic Metal Masterpiece.......2006-03-05
I bought this disc when it first came out based on a review I read in Kerrang magazine. I was blown away! Along with Crimson Glory's Transendence and Savatage's Power of The Night, this album redefined my guitar style. This is definitely one of the best Melodic Metal albums of the 80s. Do not let it pass you by.
ICON.......2002-09-16
Truly one of the most underrated 80's metal bands. For anyone who appreciates solid, straight-forward, no B.S. rock, treat yourself to this album (if you can find it), then sit back and compare it to other era bands and draw your own conclusions.
I scored this album on vinyl about 15 years ago, and immediately put it on tape (like all my vinyl), and am now in the process of burning CDs to back up my collection. Good thing too, since it doesn't appear to be available anywhere now.
THE BEST EVER MELODIC ROCK.......2002-06-05
These two albums will amaze you. You could only dream of such guitar tones their HUGE !!! Buy these if your from the 1980's and need something fresh you never heard. Great vocals and tunes - tasty !!!
A Great Find !!.......2002-05-16
Back in 1980-something, a friend gave me a tape. Side-A was a new band called Metallica (Kill 'em All - destined to be a classic). Side-B was some band called Icon. Never heard of 'em, so I never played Side-B. Big mistake! One day I got the tape backwards in the player. When I heard it, I was blown away. How could I have missed this? Who are these guys? Needless to say, I've worn out the tape. Finding it on CD is like finding gold in my backyard! I have a vast collection of Priest, Metallica, Maiden, etc. To this day, this is still one of my favorites. I would best describe it as: Dokken meets Judas Priest. Nothing fancy or excessive. Heavy drummer, solid guitar, bass and vocals. In my opinion, this album is one of the best of the "unknown" '80s bands. And this CD should be a "must" for any serious '80s hard rock/metal collection! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Gets the fluids movin.......2002-01-16
Icon is one of those hidden metal treasures thats deserves more exposure and respect! i am very happy to have receved two of there releases on cd, and would be even more excited if the recording industry would release more of there materal i.e. (right between the eyes) on cd, so do yourself a favor and take a listen to there self titled disc,or night of the crime. icon rocks !!!

Album Description
The unusual name of and the unorthodox stage show of Killer Dwarfs won them a passionate fan base. When this album was first released in 1988, their hard rock sound was favorably compared to that of Dokken. This is a disc filled with crunching Heavy Metal hooks and raw vocals on tracks such as Tell Me Please and We Stand Alone. Six bonus tracks are included. 16 tracks.

Awesome 80's metal.......2004-09-06
This is a great record. These guys can rock and the music is well written and well played. This is a fun record. Tell me please, Desperados, and Startin' to shine are the highlights but there is not a bad song to be found. I found this to be the antidote to BonJovi, Winger, Poison and other fluff. In my humble opinion., these guys were up ther with Dokken, Crue, Ratt, bands that had some talent and balls. A shame this record didn't sell a few million, it's that good. Buy this gem, you'll thank me. Give er', dunk!! rock on....
Can you beleive this is nostalgia?.......2001-02-27
I was a junior in high school when I bought my first copy of this. Back then cassette tape was the big thing, and CD was only for the rich. MTV HeadBanger's Ball was the hottest show in TV, and long hair teased way up was a "fashion do".
For quite some time, Killer Dwarfs stuff was nearly impossible to find. But now someone in the record business has done something right. This, the 3rd album from the Dwarfs, is undoubtably their best.
It was the success of their independent album "Stand Tall", what an ironic name for an album recorded by a bunch of guys going by the name Dwarf, that allowed this record to be made. "Stand Tall" is still an unavailable, but hopefully it will soon be rereleased.
Hard rock it is, but with a pop twist. Good writing is what raises this album over many of the one hit wonders of the time. Even if most of the tunes on this one didn't get mega air time, all the songs are catchy.
Listen to the samples, if you've gotten this far, you probably were looking for Killer Dwarfs anyway....
Great straight ahead rock.......2001-01-22
Made in USA in 2000, Serial# COL-CD-6451, Playing Time: 70 min.
"Big Deal", their 3rd album, was originally released in 1988 and was named after the fact the band finally signed a contract with a major record label (a big deal!).
This re-mastered version also includes as a bonus the first 6 of 12 tracks that would appear on their 5th album, "Method To The Madness"; 5 more show up on the re-mastered version of "Dirty Weapons".
"Big Deal" finally allow the band to make a better produced album, with commercial polish and catchy songs. Their style reminds me a bit of RATT, early MOTLEY CRUE, and FIREHOUSE, with no keyboard textures. It contains the small hit "We Stand Alone".
Grab this one if you like good rock, good singing, without getting into the "metal" genre.

Customer Reviews:
This is an intense band.......2003-10-02
I saw these guys live somewhere in Minneapolis in 1993, and they terrified me. They plugged in their amps and just let the guitars feedback until they ripped into a song that sounded like a bulldozer running all of us over, and then more feedback and noise, and then more bulldozers. They seemed really pissed off. It was awesome. I don't know why they are not famous, or at least, infamous. I will never forget that show, it may have changed my life. This CD comes close to that live performance.
