1 out of 5 stars Unofficial for a Very Good Reason.......2001-06-28

While a good portion of the CD's facts contain accurate information regarding the band and their past history, this disc is anything but "maximum". As a devoted fan who has been following DMB for years, who has read just about every book and article, seen every TV special, heard countless hours of live shows and soundbytes, and even met the band members in person, let me just say that this disc will only aggravate the more studied diehards upon hearing it.

Aside from the fact that there seems to be a complete lack of production invloved with this disc (the background music could not be any cheesier), many of the so-called "facts" contained within have clearly been inferred by its creators. (quite poorly I might add) To give a few examples, Jane (as in "The Song That Jane Likes") is, according to "Maximum Dave Matthews", simply a friend of the band, failing to mention that she is in fact Dave's sister. Also according to these people, Dave's older sister, Anne, was apparently murdered by her own husband, right before he proceeded to take his own life. (NOT true) And for most of you out there who are fimiliar with the song "Don't Drink the Water" and its haunting, heavy-laden concerns about the demise of the native American Indians, you would probably agree that the song does not project a "happy vibe" as this disc so willingly puts it.

I could go on and on, but if you decide to buy, you'll too soon realize that these people did not take the time to check their facts. The only rewarding aspect of owning this garbage is that I was able to vent my frustrations to those of you who are reading this now. Personally, I wouldn't have given it any stars, but the lowest score I could give it was a "1". Just for the record, "Maximum Dave Matthews" deserves a big fat goose-egg.

4 out of 5 stars Great for DMB Fans.......2000-08-21

If you are a true Dave Matthews fan, then you'll enjoy this CD as much as the others in your collection. There's nothing spectacularly new or exciting, but I wouldn't say it's "same-old same-old" either [how could it ever be with Dave?]. Bottom line: if you love DMB, this is a great CD for your collection. If you only like Dave so-so, then I would pass on this album.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars nothing new.......2001-07-09

This biography doesn't offer anything new to the current list of dave information and books out there. Nice if you haven't ever heard anything about dave before and want a breaf overview of their history

5 out of 5 stars The Best.......2001-05-13

This gives a very good background of the band members. A very informational CD.

1 out of 5 stars Wasting time..........2001-02-01

Someone may have mentioned this already, but it is worth noting again: This so-called biography has several errors in it. The basic gist of the DMB story is there, but don't rely on it for specifics. It is humorous if only for the English lady's accent (and her telling of the story- what she emphasizes), and yes the background does resemble elevator music! The ten short clips of a band member talking (mainly Dave, but Carter once) are from Interview Sessions (which is much better than this one). So if you like collecting DMB things, get this. Otherwise, don't bother. Get the book or something instead.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2001-01-30

This is just a biography (unauthorized). It is not interesting and contains no music written by Dave. The music that plays in the background of the CD sounds like elevator music. If you are a big DMB fan I would save your money for their CDs and not buy this.

There have been a few questions about what exactly 'Maximum Dave Matthews' is. This CD is essentially an interview although Dave Matthews' voice has been spliced into the commentary by the interviewer. It browses over issues such as his childhood in South Africa, his fathers death and various inspirational events. Being a devoted Dave Matthews fan I believe that this is not very interesting and I wouldn't consider it worth buying.
