4 out of 5 stars Two tracks I really like.......2007-07-21

The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.

2 out of 5 stars Quantity Over Quality.......2007-01-15

As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre.......2006-05-17

The sound quality for this collection isn't much better than the samples offered by Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars One Hundred Greatest TV Themes.......2005-08-06

I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty close to original recordings.......2005-07-24

Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

5 out of 5 stars The most treasured recording I possess.......2006-12-21

Within hours of moving into my new home, I began to set up my stereo equipment. I had a hankerin' for some aural lunar travel that could only be quenched by Joe Meek's unbelievably unique and perfect recordings found on the "I Hear a New World" CD. I remember the first time I heard "Magnetic Fields". I was sitting up in bed with my headphones connected to my laptop. After about 18% download progress, I hit "Preview" to sample what was to come. All I could hear was odd noises, clicks, hisses and pops. "Could this be a corrupted mp3," I asked myself. I gave it a few more minutes as the hijacked wifi signal went from "Low" to "Very Low" strength. I was now at 35%. I gave it another "Preview". Then, about one minute into the cacophonic sci-fi journey, I arrived. But what is this sound? A keyboard - an organ - theremin? The driving drumbeat was so heavenly as it took me away from my physical surroundings. The I.V. in my arm seemed to disappear as did the stench of the fella in the next bed. I started to laugh outloud. Nothing was funny at all. I was just so happy. I had struck gold and kept digging. I continued downloading "Love Dance of the Saroos", "Dribcots Spaceboat", "Orbit Around the Moon" as I laughed with delight. Never before or since have I actually LAUGHED with sheer delight.
So, after I set up my stereo, I proceeded to dig through my CD box. "Pink and black," I murmured as I searched. "Looking for pink and black.....Joe Meek and the Bluemen...where are you, CD?" I kept digging for about 20 minutes. It was nowhere to be found. I searched in other boxes. In the DVD box, the Christmas decoration box, the GI Joe box, the Chia pet box...NOWHERE! That's when it dawned on me - "The moon box!" My most special box of all. Of course, there it was sitting right between the authentic moon cheese curd and my Area 51 medallion. I found it. In this album, I have found what I've searched for my whole life. Most importantly, with this music pouring through my head, I've found sanity.

5 out of 5 stars An extraordinary sonic fantasy.......2006-03-15

An astonishing work, created in the late 50s and in STEREO
For all those who are interested in sound engineering and haven't discovered Joe Meek then this is a challenging introduction.
Basically it's a home studio recording of Mr Meek space fantasy CONCEPT album, him being famous of course for producing 'Telstar' by The Tornados a major hit in the early 60s.
The recording methods used broke all the rules and created a unique sonic lanscape that in the main still sounds fresh and exciting fifty years on. recommended

5 out of 5 stars A Glistening Artifact Breathes Anew.......2005-08-29

Infamous British pop producer Joe Meek (of TELSTAR fame) attempted his audio manifesto in 1960, and the result was I HEAR A NEW WORLD, a collection of tracks which has finally seen the light of day. Any self-respecting 4-track-owning lover of sublime schlock must indulge. There are moments of rapture between the freshly digitized grooves. Predating Brian Wilson's SMILE by almost seven years, Meek (with a lot of uncredited help) fashioned a whole new acoustic landscape, begging to be traversed. A must!

3 out of 5 stars Crazy, unique, a required taste but interesting listen (3.5 stars).......2005-07-05

Joe Meek is certainly an unique character. Obsessed with sci-fi and the paranormal, he aspired to greatness, but his genius wasn't known in his lifetime. Meek was an auteur and one of the most unique figures in popular music history. He should've been made a millionare by the Tornados' hit single "Telstar", but a resulting lawsuit kept that from happening. The best, most accesible introduction to Meek's work is definatly the "It's Hard to Beleive" compilation. If you considor yourself a Meek fan by that point, you may want to check out this unique and surrealistic album. It was possibly, as the other reviewer mention, rock's first concept album (pre-dating Zappa's "Freak Out"). All the songs deal with a journey to moon, and what life may be like on it. It is a bizarre vision to say the least, which includes sped-up voices of space creatures, armies of "Globbots", and plentiful sci-fi noises and sound effects. It is apparent that Meek had really lost his mind by than, which means if you're into outsider music and bizarre records, you'll love this. If you're expecting it to be full of "Telstar"-like rock 'n' roll, you'll be dissapointed. I enjoyed it, but it's certainly a required taste.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the space age.......2001-07-02

Hey kids-what was the FIRST rock concept album? was it The Wall? NA!!!! Tommy? NA!!!!!!! it was this album, released in 1960... Talk about space age:This album was released as a double EP back then to demonstrate the wonders of stereo in hi fi shops.Recored by the legendary producer Joe meek(of "Telsatr" fame),This album is his personal twisted visoin on moon people, space and all that mumbojumbospace crap.It has incrediably good sound for its times (lots of reverb, sound EFX),some good tunes(title track and the "hit" magnetic field),but the thing is very simple-only a limted edition of vinykl was produced back then....COLEECTIBLE! So now you can hear it agin(tough it was released in 91),but this time with an additional 35 min interview with meek(very noisey, but quiet interesting for ANYONE in the music biz),and a short movie of meek's work. This is a must for anyone who likes surf,psyc-rock and space.

3 out of 5 stars It's okay........2007-02-08

Don't get me wrong, there are some really BUMPIN' tracks on this disc but some of the songs get old after just a little while. Repetitive beats, soft vocals... ehh... kinda blend into the background. Some of the songs are hard to get into at all.
Yet, it is still worth purchasing if you can get it at a discount rate somewhere. Everyone WILL find at least a handful of tracks they really like.

With There's No 666 in Outer Space, Hella steps up with an album that is as fiercely imaginative as any the Sacramento-based group has released before. As groundbreaking and fearless as 2002's Hold Your Horse Is or 2004's The Devil Isn't Red, 666 provides its audience with a multifaceted listening experience that defies musical boundaries and may, upon repeated listens, permanently alter the senses. "Friends Don't Let Friends Win," "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle," "Let Your Heavies Out" and "The Things That People Do When They Think No One's Looking" marry the sturm und drang of Red-era King Crimson with the menacing whimsy of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. Others, including title cut "Anarchists Just Wanna Have Fun," imagine a harmonious union between the ever-theatrical Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and the heavier-than-thou System of a Down. But Hella has its own rich character and it occupies a mysterious and distinct musical universe, a territory that has yet to be named because we must first find a new vocabulary to begin to speak of it. This place requires that the listener have the heart and mind and ears of a world-class explorer, a seeker who trusts in the unknown and returns to strange sonic soil again and again to unravel its great grand mysteries, plot its progress, and bathe in its fertile soil. There's No 666 in Outer Space may be one of the most important releases of 2007. And it may be years later that we catch up with it. --Jedd Beaudoin

5 out of 5 stars Bliss.......2007-03-29

A friend told me a month or two ago that I should check out a band called Hella. I forgot about it, but then I saw this on the new releases and remembered the tip. So I got There's No 666 and Hold Your Horse Is (which seemed like a good one to start with, as apparently many Hella fans don't like 666).

Well, long story short, the one I prefer is this one. HYHI is definitely really great, but good thing it's pretty short because unless I'm really listening to it actively, the only-guitar-and-drums approach starts to grate on my ears.

666, on the other hand, is just awesome. The guitar work is a little less wanky for it's own sake (although I don't fault Spencer Seim for trying to be sonically interesting when he's on his own). Having two guitars plus bass seems to give each of them a little more rein to let loose rather than having to be all intricate stop-start time signatures and so on. They even have slow passages!

This is not to say that they've become some lame Snow Patrol-type band or something. The riffs are aggressive and challenging. The drums are beyond incredible. And the vocals: How can you not love hearing, while your ears are being assaulted by dueling guitars, Aaron Ross' voice break in shrieking something awesome like "Anarchists just wanna have fun!" or my personal favorite "The earth is flat it is not round!!!"

Man. This is great! So far it's the best thing I've heard released this year. Fans of the Mars Volta or Mastodon will probably enjoy this. Also check out Marnie Stern. Zach Hill also drums on it and it's very similar in spirit (i.e. awesome).

4 out of 5 stars Hella good!.......2007-02-06

I'll admit I didn't like this band before. It was a bass player and drummer just jamming out and it was kind of annoying. Now they added a singer and a guitarist(s). So how is it? Pretty good. Some of the vocals remind me alot of the mars volta. One thing I will say is this band knows when to end songs. The music is crazy but it's not masturbatory like most of TMV. Hopefully, Hella will make new fans after this one.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums of the past few years.......2007-02-03

For recent fans of Hella and this group of musicians the vocals and more structured/coherent songwriting might take a while to get used to. For longtime fans who might have thought of Hella as 50% of Legs On Earth this is the album you have been waiting for since the year 2000. LOE member Josh Hill is back on guitar and better than ever with incredibly technical staccato lines that are the perfect contrast to an offering that could almost be considered conservative for Spencer Seim. On bass is longtime collaborator Carson McWhirter who does an impressive job of tying the band together; sometimes doubling the lead guitar part but more often than not taking to the low end to dual Zach Hill's onslaught with complex Levinian lines that show his background and interest in more straightforward prog/math rock. The new kid on the block in this group is Aaron Ross who takes on a task few people would envy: adding words to a very successful instrumental band with fans that have historically been resistant to the addition of vocals. I've come to really enjoy the work done by Ross on this album. I've already heard comparisons to Claypool, Cornell, Bowie, Plant and others, but even though I can hear them in certain areas for me the vocals as a whole are a unique element that compliment and help shape the overall sound of the album.

1 out of 5 stars Hella Goes Hella Mars Volta Lite .......2007-02-01

Disappointing to hear this band get a singer who rivals Jared Leto with lines like "raaaaaaaaainnnnn on mmmeeeee." I could play Church Gone Wild for friends who like Slayer and Motorhead, but this sucks. RIP Hella (get rid of that singer).

4 out of 5 stars minus half a star.......2007-01-31

The first release for the new 5-piece band, this is not the Hella of yore quality/consistency-wise, but still a very unique and ambitious release that grows and grows on the listener. The most insidiously listenable track "The Ungrateful Dead" may sound a LOT like Mars Volta (albeit with tighter structure and more conspicuous drumming), but most of the rest of the album is much harder to pigeonhole, often coming across as a funkier, electronics-addled take on Trout Mask Replica. The main element that old Hella fans are bound to focus on is the singing (the first to occupy an entire Hella release). Aaron Ross unfortunately is lacking in stylistic flair and even invites occasional comparisons to such established singers as Chris Cornell, Billy Corgan, and Les Claypool. That said, he does a adequate job of keeping up with Hella's hyper-rhythmic onslaught.
As this CD will divide the old fans, I recommend it to completists and the uninitiated looking for something adventurous but more traditional sounding than two-piece Hella.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent 80's music.......2007-02-06

this is the best that Sparks put out. Pop 80's New Wave. Great stuff!

5 out of 5 stars Uncool, but who cares!.......2005-09-29

You won't find a review by a respectable music critic that does anything less that totally trash this album. But let's face it. This album is like a faded 1984 Pontiac Fiero with rips in the seat, stains in the carpet,...............and a Northstar V8 out back - about the most uncool thing you can imagine. But WAY more fun than some slow, ill-handling, but blinged-out Cadillac Escalade (ie the 'cool' music). So take your pick. Oh, and you might not want to let anyone hear you play this CD

5 out of 5 stars Say It Loud - We're Dorks And We're Proud!.......2005-08-29

One of my gripes about popular music is how seriously it takes itself. Let's face it, most musicians are dorks pretending to be profound. Success in popular music means convincing teenagers and emotionally stunted adults that you really are profound and not a dork. Irony is something that is lost in the world of pop idol worship.

Sparks is a great illustration of this principle. These are not dorks pretending to be profound but ending up sounding like dorks. These are dorks who are aware of their own dorkiness and who are not trying to insult your intelligence by pretending otherwise. This explains (in my mind anyway) why Sparks never caught on. They refused to play the "Let's Pretend We're Cool" game. They just wanted to revel in their dorkiness. The song "Cool Places" is as close to a Declaration of Principle as you will find: It's the "cool" people who are the real dorks in life.

It's a shame that this band never made it big. On "In Outer Space", the Mael brothers are so gloriously dorky that it makes them poetic (to borrow a phrase from the excellent film, "Almost Famous"). The melodies are catchy, keyboard-based ditties that are pleasant enough to listen to, but it's the silly lyrics that make Sparks worth listening to. This is never more evidence than in songs like "All You Ever Think About Is Sex" (All you ever this about is sex/Alright with me), "I Wish I Looked A Little Better" (I went to high school and majored in lookin' real bad/I got a real ugly mom and a real ugly dad), and "Rockin' Girls" (You're the only girl I've ever met who hates "Hey Jude"/Maybe that's the reason that I'm so in love with you).

Profound? Hell no. And definitely not cool either. My heroes.

3 out of 5 stars LIMITED OUTER SPACE.......2004-08-16

Though not entirely a bad album..."Sparks in Outer Space" seems to be the first sell-out for a non-hit based band. Just while Sparks seemed at the height of their success with 82's release of "Angst in My Pants"...so were the Go-Gos with "Vacation." It seemed like the best pieces of the great 80's synthesized rock puzzles. Ironically enough, Jane Wiedlin (formely of the Go-Gos) teamed up w/ the Mael brothers to become a member of this long lost dance crazed classic. Speaking so, Sparks seemed to resist the fashion of making tunes for its more intelligent crowd and jumped for air-waves friendly music instead.

Though I loved "...In Outer Space" when I first purchased it at the age of 11... some 20 years later the appeal wears thin. Avoiding the fact that "Cool Places" seemed to "spark" some radio play...the rest of the album seems too simple and slippery.

"All You Ever Think About is Sex" is among the strengtheist on "...Outer Space." It demonstrates the witty, classic Mael brothers humour from the very opening of the song: "Think of all the places we've had our little fun/ In the church at Christmas, busted by that nun." While "I Wish I Looked a Little Better" almost seems like a sequel to "Funny Face" from their "Whomp That Sucker" album in the lines: "Turn out the light, yeah the light/ And I might have a chance/ I guess I look slightly worse than the Elephant man."

But, while the previous Sparks' albums tended to make its listeners chuckle and laugh, "...In Outer Space" only has its random moments. Not to say it's a bad thing for any band to try out a different turf, the love churned tunes such as "Please, Baby, Please" and "Lucky me, Lucky you" just seem too pop friendly to be recognized as Sparks forgivables.

The only other complaint about this album is its defeat in being timeless. As for an album that sounded good during its time it's sensational, but twenty years later, the "...In Outer Space" sounds like its from another planet. It's too heavily synthesized and it just doesn't prove any justice for the back-up band the Mael brothers had retained at the time (hence, it was perhaps the best line-up since 74's "Kimono My House").

4 out of 5 stars Some fine melodic tunes........2002-12-04

I own the album & it contains some wonderful melodies. Songs such as Popularity, A funch bunch of guys from outer space & Rockin' girls are upbeat highly melodic & instantly catchy electro pop. I'd say 8 out of 10 of the songs on this album are good.

Sparks new album Lil' Beethoven (2002)is out now and it's fantastic!

3 out of 5 stars Re-worked version of "Genius..." plus a bit more.......2003-10-30

HFOS is a partially re-recorded version of the songs on their 1995 release "Genius of America". A few lyric alterations have been made, the arrangements are a bit different on some songs, and a song from Fee Waybill's 1996 solo disc "Don't Be Scared By These Hands" is included. The title track, which sounds like it could have been a missing track from "Genius.." is okay but not great.
Lord knows I love The Tubes, but this disc is a collectible for the serious fan only. It will be interesting to us Tubes fans, but it will not serve as a good introduction to the band for potential new fans.

Of course, you should still buy it! I mean, c'mon! Support The Tubes any and every chance you get! But for a better representative sample of their work try their stuff from their early demos to their 1983 album "Outside/Inside".

4 out of 5 stars The Final Frontier.......2003-05-30

This is a Dr. Demento compilation featuring cuts with an outer space theme. With only twelve tracks, it's a bit on the short side. They could easily have fit half a dozen other cuts on it. Off the top of my head, I can name "The Flying Saucer", "The Martian Hop", "Martian Boogie", "Kirk and Spock", "Star Wars Cantina" and "Yoda" as tracks that could have been included. But I will judge the CD based on what it is, not what it could have been. First off, let me advise you not to get this CD if you are not interested in Star Trek, because over half the tracks have a Star Trek theme. "Beam Me Up, Scotty" is a slight, but fun, song based on the misquoted Star Trek catch phrase. "Star Trekkin'" is the funniest song ever written about Star Trek. "The Saga Begins" is a great parody by "Weird Al" that sets the plot of "Star Wars: Episode One" to the tune of "American Pie". "Star Drek" is a classic skit parodying Star Trek that will be familiar to regular listeners of the Dr. Demento Show. "Do the Picard" is a terrific song about Star Trek: The Next Generation. "Carmen Miranda's Ghost" is a strange, but fun, song about a space station being haunted by, yes, Carmen Miranda's ghost. "They're Here" is a decent song about alien invaders that has a similar arrangement to "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!". In the corny "Twinkle Twinkle Little Earth", Mr. Spock says a few words about the stars. I didn't care much for "Banned From Argo", which is about shore leave. In the great "The Ballad of William Robinson", the now middle aged Will Robinson of "Lost in Space" updates us on his life. "What's Up Spock" is an okay parody of the rap song "What's Up Doc?". "Star Trip" covers similar ground as "Star Drek", but it's twice as long and half as funny.

5 out of 5 stars Dr. Demento has another hit.......2003-03-16

Another fine collection from Dr. D. It's been awhile since the good Dr. has put out a CD but this one is worth the wait. My favorite is "Do The Picard" by Rusty Humphries and the Boneheads, a true classic. Humphries also has a CD out called "Bomb Iraq". You couldn't do better than a double whammy of this CD and Rusty Humphries.

Captured on this one disc are the great film scores Bernard Herrmann did for several classic science fiction films of the '50s and '60s. Herrmann did not go in for simple atmospherics and cheap orchestral tricks with his music. He knew that the music would have to conjure a mental world all its own. This is especially true in "The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad". It's a tone poem Rimsky-Korsakov could have written. The best here is "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with its use of the (then) revolutionary theremin. It's a clear masterpiece, all on its own. --Paul Cook

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The other essential Herrmann CD.......2004-08-25

I like to think of this CD as being the "Forbidden Planet" of film scores CDs -- technically marvelous, consistently enthralling on an emotional and mental level, and way ahead of its time.

Unfortunately it is not available as I write this. Last time I visited this Amazon site, there was one CD for sale for almost $60. You'll have to make up your own mind if this music is worth that much to you. I made my choice long ago to own this and keep it in my library, conceivably forever.

With five film scores, 35 tracks and 72 minutes of the most high grade science fiction music, this CD should be considered the definitive source for Bernard Herrmann's non-Hitchcock film scores. Not only did he conduct the National Philharmonic Orchestra in these recordings, the composer approved of the Phase 4 recording and mixing. It is, as the notes say, a unique listening experience.

I have found this CD to be a constant source of imagination, vision and scope in film music that still has no peer 30 years after its production. The opening sequence to "Journey To The Center of the Earth" is better than it ever was in the theater, where the music was a hackneyed backdrop to an incredilbe film. In this CD, the music dwarfs the film action.

My favorite sequence in this issue is Herrmann's work for the Ray Bradbury novella "Fahrenheit 451", which was recast in some minds recently when "Fahrenheit 911" appeared in theaters throughout the country.

Every bit of the miracle of that little film is projected through this eerily wonderful music, which seems to comprise a world of its own. The sections help recall Sontag's first trip on the fire engine, the bedroom fire and the finale.

The lengthiest tract on this disk is the near 27 minute set from the film "Gulliver's Travels". I've never seen the movie but will attest that the music is out of this world in a very British way. This section seems closer to following the musical rules for a suite than any other on this disk.

Decca had the good sense to return the Bernard Herrmann-conducted Hitchcock scores to circulation, so maybe they will do the same with this miraculous disk. Again, the notes are nothing to write home about, but even with that considered no lover of film music or the music of Bernard Herrmann can consider their library complete without this disk.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely Horrible.......2007-06-20

I play role playing games and wanted to get some sound effects to set the mood. So I decided to grab this after seeing someone give it a 5 star review. Sorry, but the only thing this CD is good for is a coaster or frisbie. The effects sound like they were made on a $50 keyboard, there is a lot of choppiness in them and they sound rediculous. They don't even sound like what they are supposed to. For instance, there is one called "meteor hits"...it sounds like rain on a tin roof. I can't stress how bad this is, I bought a used copy for 15 cents and still feel ripped off.

5 out of 5 stars IN CASE OF SONIC ATTACK : DO NOT PANIC !.......2007-01-10

really fuuuun ! For all scifi lovers and specially for old black&white movies of the golden fifties (Tarantula, The Spider, Them, Forbidden Planet, Earth versus Flying Saucers, The thing from outer space and so one...). Good samples : you can use it to create music, i think (techno, krautrock, ambient...). I loooooooooooooooooooooooove this CD and (in a peculiar manner...) I listen to it EVERY DAY... ahahahahaha (the Mad Doctor strike again)...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Sounding Recordings.......2001-10-16

This CD has been around for a while now but it is still truly a good compilation of Science Fiction film music given a new dimension by being recorded digitally. The BATMAN selections composed by Danny Elfman are very powerful combing rousing elements with moody enigmatic passages. Most of the other selections are short or confined to one piece. The selections from TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE, STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER and POLTERGEIST all composed by Jerry Goldsmith are all performed with passion and demonstrate Goldsmith's great versatility. Bernard Herrmann's "Outer Space" from THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL is brief but in effect makes it all the more powerful by its great innovation and lasting impact. The WAR OF THE WORLDS "Prelude" by Leith Stevens was a great surprise.

3 out of 5 stars An interesting collection of obscure s/f-fantasy themes.......2000-10-26

Maestro Kunzel has gathered together a mostly-entertaining mix of music from various s/f movies. As usual with these collections, the CD contains selections that are hard to come by (if not impossible) on a soundtrack or any other recorded source. Not all of the tracks work, however. Music from "Moonwalker" is annoying, and the theme from "War of the Worlds" is just plain weird. Not Kunzel's fault, I know, but those pieces tend to (for me) mar the overall likeability of the album. That said, there are definitely keepers: The theme from "The Black Hole," the soundtrack to which was unavailable on CD anywhere until just recently and which by itself is worth the cost; the sweet chorus of Carol Ann's Theme from "Poltergeist"; the themes from "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "The Beast Master" (I am Dar!) and "The Last Starfighter."

Unfortunately, these movie collections tend to waste too much disk space on sound effects. Often inserted as short introductions to a piece of music, most can be endured quickly and forgotten. But on this CD, a whole track's worth following "The Black Hole" is devoted to the inane cacophony of electronic gibberish, space that would have been much better served by playing, say, the Love Theme from "Superman."

Still, there are more things to like on this album than there are to dislike.

3 out of 5 stars Digital Sound with a so-so collection.......2000-06-25

This is another of the Telarc label's collections put together under the conductor Erich Kunzel and performed by the Cincinnati pops orchestra. Like all Telarc discs, the sound is pure digital and hence can really pack a punch. Moreover, Kunzel often chooses some vey nice gems in his collections -- e.g. the neglected Last Starfighter piece here. However, the problem arises in the fact that many pieces of film score don't play well with a large orchestra -- they loose their focused intensity. The Batman here suffers from such a flaw and is weaker than the original score. The Pops orchestra is best with march-type themes, of which there are not enough on this album to make it outshine the original soundtracks from which it draws.
