Two of the best.......2006-10-09

This CD is two very good musicians playing swinging relaxed jazz. The fact that both use the ukelele as their main instrument has nothing to do with anything. Great musicians can use any instrument, and both of these fellows are great musicians. There is love and laughter here, too. Beautiful melodies, nice chord substitutions and just a happy, swinging set. Well worth the money if you like good music. This CD also has Ohta-San's wonderful song "Song for Anna" which he plays solo. I don't think there has ever been a more beautiful song, no matter what instrument is used.

Has Just 3 Songs But More Worth Than Most 75-Minute Discs.......2007-05-09

Until recently, I didn't even know this gem had ever been pressed onto CD. I got the 12" EP record quite a while back, and I think I actually mentioned in a previous DiVinyls review how essential it was for someone to get this out on CD. Thankfully, it seems just such a disc has now been unearthed. It seems that this one sometimes gets confused with the 9-track release "DiVinyls Live Authorised Bootleg" from the mid-90s, which has been referred to by a host of names; both releases are sometimes just abbreviated as "DiVinyls Live". If you're going to order this from an Amazon affiliate seller, you might want to check in with the seller just to make sure it is indeed the 80s EP so you don't duplicate discs (not that "Live Authorised Bootleg" isn't also worth having).

An essential to get on either disc or vinyl, "Live At The Ritz" contains just 3 songs but is better than most 2-CD live albums. Captured with crystal clear sound, the band is captured at their best here. All 3 come off as good if not better than their studio counterparts off the "What A Life" album, with Christina Amphlett working her vocal quirks and unusual energy to extraordinary effect, and dynamic, invigorating music from the band. One thing "Live Authorized Bootleg" missed (aside from a clear production) was the between-songs mic work where Chrissie talks to the audience. All the best live vocalists have to have that special factor they can turn on between the songs, to make the performance the experience it should be and not just a recitation of music with no connection. Amphlett's one of the best at this kind of thing. 'Pleasure And Pain' is a more energetic take on the song than the original version, 'In My Life' is one of Chrissie's most over-the-top vocal performances ever and features Mark McEntee turning in some of his most sonically powerful guitar work, and 'Sleeping Beauty' is an even more scorchingnly sexy track than it was before, with heart-stopping husky/raspy vocals by Amphlett in parts. Just overall a tremendous little mini set of great songs. Now if only somebody could issue the whole Ritz concert on CD or DVD....

I was at these shows, changed my life as a 17 year old. I have a beat up VHS of the clips they ran on MTV when Iggy hosted 120 Minutes. His band was tight, the track list exquisite.

My best friend Luke was one of the lucky ones,he was there in 1986 at the Ritz and was witness to what is, in my humble opinion,the greatest live performance in Rock&Roll history.I have been looking for a copy of IGGY POP'S live at the Ritz for over ten years and now thanks to Amazon.com and the internet I have found a truly breathtaking CD recorded in New York City.From the opening song,"I Got A Right" to the final song,IGGY and his group will blow you away with some of the coolest guitar riffs and rocking bass lines with a poppin' beat,and of course lyrics that speak volumes by the man himself.This CD is right up there with the greatest rock recordings from Led Zep,The Stones,Ozzy&Black Sabath and a few others that we all love.This CD has IGGY'S best tunes including some stooges stuff as well as the "Blah Blah Blah" songs wich were from his then latest album circa 1986.Any fan of Rock will love this CD,but for any hard-core IGGY POP fans this is truly a compilement of some of his finest work.I would highly recommend this CD to anyone. Although this is my personal favorite IGGY has some really great CD's that are all top notch music.Thanx Amazon for finding this awesome piece of music history...
