The Philadelphia-born trumpeter and superb bop stylist Lee Morgan apprenticed with Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey before emerging as a leader in his own right in the early '60s for Blue Note Records. Although Morgan owed a stylistic debt to both Gillespie and Clifford Brown, he quickly developed a voice of his own that combined half-valve effects, Latin inflections, and full, fluid melodies. While many of Morgan's later sessions for Blue Note would find him paired with saxophonist Hank Mobley, The Sidewinder features then up-and-coming tenor player Joe Henderson, plus Detroit pianist Barry Harris, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Billy Higgins. Along with the title track, an unconventional 24-bar blues, the album's compositional standout is "Totem Pole," a minor Latin groove featuring an outstanding solo by Henderson. This is the kind of relaxed blowing date, invigorated by thoughtful performances, that forms the backbone of the Blue Note catalog. --Fred Goodman

Album Description

The Sidewinder, Lee Morgan's 24-bar blues with an infectious bass line and backbeat, instantly became one of the most popular pieces in modern jazz history. Every track on this classic album is a gem.

5 out of 5 stars An absolute must have classic recording in jazz, hot!.......2007-05-20

Lee Morgan's The Sidewinder is to jazz trumpet what Sonny Rollins' Saxophone Collosus is to the sax; an absolutely gorgeous work of art that will never leave your your playlist once it works it's way into your head.

It only takes one listen to get infected with the rythym. This is a jazz album that truly rocks, and if you know your roots of rock and roll you'll hear it here, too. Along with Clifford Brown, whom you'll love as well if you dig this recording, Lee Morgan rates among the greatest trumpet players to have ever graced a stage.

5 out of 5 stars this will blow you away.......2007-05-02

Lee Morgan was one of the most gifted hard bop trumpeters of his or any generation since, and "The Sidewinder" has long been regarded as his magnum opus. The album's title track has become a significant jazz standard, with generations of budding artists since interpreting it both live and on record. This being one of the premium titles in Blue Note's long list of albums to date, Lee Morgan's "The Sidewinder" is one of the top-selling jazz albums of all time.

Joe Henderson is admirably fantastic on this 1963 recording as is the legendary pianist Barry Harris, both of whom exhibit on here uncanny swinging improvisational backdrops and solos. Henderson underscores here how great an impact and influence John Coltrane was having on artists like himself by this point. But truly it is Lee Morgan, most of all, who stands out far and ahead of the pack on these tracks. "Totem Poll" is an absolute delight, opening to a wonderful piano-intro from Barry Harris with Lee stepping in shortly.

This Rudy Van Gelder Edition comes with 24-bit remastering done by Rudy himself, and the sound quality and clarity is just right throughout. This is one of the most celebrated jazz albums for as long as anyone can remember, a must have for everyone establishing a jazz collection for themselves. You also get an alternate take of "Totem Pole", so buy "The Sidewinder" today! A five-star album if ever there was one.

5 out of 5 stars I love it!.......2007-03-04

This album has come as a bit of a shock. The shock isn't from how good this album is (and it is very good). The shock - the shame even - is that I've been going around all these years calling myself a jazz lover without ever even hearing it, talk less about having it in my collection.

But I got lucky. You know how it is. You buy a CD or express an interest in one and amazon.com very helpfully suggest others that you might enjoy. That is how I came across this classic beauty. I read a few reviews, they all seemed to be saying great things and so I jumped right in.

Lee Morgan is a great trumpeter but it's not just the improvisation and sheer craftsmanship of he and all concerned here (Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Barry Harris on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass and Billy Higgins on drums) that I find mind-blowing; it's that Lee Morgan is such an incredible songwriter. The title track beings to mind phrases like "Herbie Hancock", "Watermelon Man" and "bandwagon" but that might be a bit too harsh. It's still a very enjoyable tune in its own right.

Morgan writes all six of the songs on this album and while I don't know much about the technical jargon involved, on "Totem Pole", just to take one example, the way the beat and tempo keep changing during the song keep me going back to it again and again (track #6 is actually an alternate take of this song).

It never ceases to amaze me how music recorded almost half a century ago - this one was recorded in 1963 - still sounds so fresh and so original today. Maybe it's the mastering by Rudy Van Gelder but the sound is clear, crisp and practically jumps out of the speakers. This is my kind of jazz; very clever but still very accessible. I love it!

4 out of 5 stars Seminal serpent.......2007-02-12

I never cared for the title track when I first heard it, regarding it as little more than a boogaloo period piece. But after listening to numerous attempts to copy the formula (and repeat its commercial success), it's easier to understand the attention the original has received. Morgan and his cast of players seem to understand that it's all about the "groove," and his conservative, underplayed solo, always staying inside the rhythmic pocket, insures that this sidewinder never goes off course. Its only rival among all the Sidewinder wannabes is probably Kenny Dorham's "Una Mas."

Regarding editions, I've heard both the RVG remaster and the 1990 transfer, and prefer the earlier edition. The boosting of bass and treble frequencies, perhaps impressive to some ears, contributes little to the serpent's sinuous and seductive path.

5 out of 5 stars Viva la Bop Revolution!.......2006-09-26

Lee scored a double victory with this one, magnificent music and popular recognition. Nothing could get in the way of those horns, trumpet and tenor sax skate across ice with tremendous agility and zero drag, heralds of bright harmonies to dance for! Pianist Barry Harris nails home the groove, keeping it simple so the horns can sky write 'Viva la bop revolution,' in all its refined glory!

Every song was a certifiable hit back in the 1980s--the kind that MTV played incessantly (back when MTV actually played videos). Granted, superstars like Madonna, Prince, and Duran Duran are nowhere to be found, but this 15-track line-up of Brits, Yanks, and Aussies is a pretty accurate representation of an era. Twenty years have passed since then and times have changed, but the tunes haven't. Not much, at any rate. The majority of these acoustic interpretations may be slower or quieter than before, but they're hardly radical reinventions. ("No One Is to Blame," "Rebel Yell," and "These Dreams" were all recorded live.) Take Rick Springfield's "Jesse's Girl," for example. It sounds much the same as ever; the original Dr. McDreamy has simply sprinkled a little twang around the edges. The versions that deviate most include Berlin's "Metro," which speeds things up to fine effect, Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/Jenny," which sounds rougher and more rugged than the gold single, and Billy Squier's "Stroke," which makes a surprisingly successful segue from pop-metal to Delta blues. Then there are the voices, most of which (Colin Hay and Tommy Heath aside) sound as youthful as ever. On "Missing You," for instance, John Waite channels his twentysomething self with ease, while on "Our Lips Are Sealed," the Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin sounds downright girlish. Bottom line: If you liked these songs in the first place, you'll like 'em in the second. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

5 out of 5 stars Great pickup.......2007-07-08

OK, are we all ignoring the elephant in the room? The acoustic version of Asia's "Heat of the Moment" is easily the best version on the album. At risk of sounding melodramatic, that may be the best remake of a song that I've ever heard. Worth the purchase of the cd, that's without considering the great versions of "Your Love" and "Missin You."

5 out of 5 stars So you miss your M-TV.......2007-03-15

Remember the days when music television actually played videos? Wish it were so again? Well then you're probably in the age group this CD would most appeal to, and it does as a huge hit. I couldn't stop listening to it for hours after I finally got my hot little hands on it. I was singing along on my trip down memory lane. One word: AMAZING.

4 out of 5 stars 80s with some emotion!.......2007-01-31

Most of these tunes acquire a nice, attention-getting emotional edge in their acoustic settings. "She Blinded Me With Science" is hilarious no matter what you do to it. Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars An 'Sripped' Walk Down Memory Lane.......2006-11-02

If you didn't like the eighties music, don't torture yourself. If you did, I believe you will have a enjoyable trip down memory lane. Personally, I have enjoyed many of the 'unplugged' approaches and most of the work on this compilation is at a minimum, not bad. It is choppy and obviously not intended to be released together, but this only makes you tolerate a few questionable songs and then you get to hear some pretty good 'revisions'. I think that Rick Springfield's Jesse's Girl ruins it for you as the first track because he did a great job of changing the song without losing the song. They include Heart and 'These Dreams' which I believe is a off ..The Road Home.. a CD that any Heart fan must have in their collection. Again, if you love eighties music, I think you will want to add this one to the collection.

4 out of 5 stars Acoustic? Hardly.......2006-09-19

"Stripped" is definitely the right word for these tracks. "Acoustic" would be incorrect in some cases, as for Thomas Dolby "acoustic" means using only one synthesizer.
As stated correctly in some reviews, many of these tracks are just live versions using fewer instruments. However, this also means that the songs are missing that heavy, multi-tracked, over-produced sound that defined 80's rock.
The tracks range from horrendous ("The Metro") to awesome ("Your Love"). Be warned - when you "strip" something down to its basics, you can see how beautiful it is, but you'll also see some obvious flaws. Without the benefit of fade-out some tracks have awkward endings ("Heat of the Moment") and others don't seem to work well in this format ("Rebel Yell"). But a great song is still a great song.
If you liked "Down Under" or "Our Lips Are Sealed" before, you'll probably like them again in a rawer form.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2007-08-02

Another great disk from the guys. It's got somewhat of an updated feel, but it's still classic Outfield. If you saw them on the '98 It's Not Over tour, you probably already have this one. Otherwise, pick it up. You won't be disappointed. I will say that Voices of Babylon is probably my favorite. Also, I wish John Spinks all the best for a speedy recovery.

5 out of 5 stars Another One Outta the Park.......2007-04-16

I was a little nervous when I bought this. Sure, the samples sounded OK, but could these guys really deliver the goods? Was the old magic still at work? Would disappointment haunt my steps like an Outraged Ladies' Maid in a Victorian chamber play? These were questions I felt deserved careful consideration. Luckily, I'm here to tell you that this meets and far exceeds all my expectations!

This sounds as though it had been recorded in the summer of 1987. The Outfield has not sought to reinvent itself in order to appeal to today's taste; instead, the boys give the fans exactly what they paid to see: the musical landscape of the mid to late Eighties. Your opinion of this CD depends entirely on how you felt about the scenery the first time you took the ride.

3 out of 5 stars Wish I could rate it higher..........2007-03-21

The Outfield always will have a special place with me. They are my favorite band for many reasons, but mostly for the nostalgic feeling I get whenever I hear their music. I have loved them since I was just a boy back in the mid 80's, and I don't think music has ever affected me in a more postitve way than the Outfield have, as cheesy as that may be. So you get it, I love the Outfield. Needless to say, I was overly excited when I heard quite awhile back that a new album was in the works. The release of this album was postponed more than a few times, but when it was finally available, I had my copy instantly. First let me clear something up--there are actually two versions of this album, both containing separate songs unique to each album. I originally got the 17 track version which doesn't contain "Wasted", "Long Way Back From Nowhere" (a song worth having for any Outfield fan), "I Can't Wait", or "Peace". When the version featured here was released, I bought it also. The original 17 track album was, as I was informed, a Tower records limited edition, available through the Outfield's website, or Tower's website. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but that doesn't really matter. If you do not have that copy, there are two remixed songs: "Heaven's Little Angel"-groove mix, which is nowhere near as good as the original, and "Tiny Lights"-New Millenium Mix. There are also six other songs: "To Be With You", "Seven Days", "My Old Friend", "Same Old Story", "Two Hearts", and "Broken Heart". Putting both of these versions together, there are 21 new songs here. That's quite a heaping of new Outfield material to absorb. Sadly, most of it is only average. The Outfield are one band that have managed to never change their sound, even 20 years later, and that is wonderful. On "Any Time Now", they sound just as good as they did back in the 80's, but something is missing. The songwriting is just not as strong as it has been in the past. It could be due to the fact that John Spinx was suffering/recovering from liver cancer during the recording of this album, according to the Outfield's website. I can imagine that would take quite a bit out of someone, especially with Spinx being the sole songwriter. The songs aren't bad, but few grabbed me with the force of say, "No Point", "Since You've Been Gone", "The Night Ain't Over", or even "Dance the Night Away". Most of the material on here is just Outfield filler. It is ok, just not awesome. There are, however, three songs on here that you must hear if you're any kind of Outfield fan. "The Sound Of Love" is a great song, more reminiscent of newer Outfield like "Heaven's Little Angel" and "It's A Crime", an instant lovable Outfield tune. "It's All About Love is another favorite of mine which has the same kind of feel as "The Way It Should Be" off of Rockeye. I also love that song. The third song I really like is "Long Way Back From Nowhere" which features Spinx and Lewis both on vocals, something you don't often hear from the Outfield. That is also a great song. The rest are average. Of course, everyone's different, so what I have said may not apply to you. At any rate, if you're obsessed with the Outfield like I am, you'll probably want to get both versions. If you're a fan, get the 12 track version, and for the less than casual fan, you really don't need this album, stick with Rockeye and before. I'm glad to see my favorite band still making music, though!

5 out of 5 stars Vintage Outfield.......2007-01-15

Any Time Now is a new musical perspective on the same core talent and energy that Outfield fans will remember from previous albums - its a great album. Big regret is that for some reason it did not benefit from the attention of a bigger record label and hence has been poorly promoted and lacks contemporary production values (see other reviews). Based on this album John Spinks has some big hits brewing inside him still and I truly hope the Outfield find the marketing and production support they need to bring them to more of the world!

3 out of 5 stars outfield album.......2006-11-07

there seemed like there was no common theme of musical flow for this "album". it seems like a lot of the songs they have released are leftovers from other projects and ideas...they are talented and good song writers but they seem to lack a focus to me. they should go continue the "rockeye" type of music, but adapt it to a more "today's" type of pop music

3 out of 5 stars Acoustic redo of 80s hair rock.......2007-04-13

You have to dig hearing these classics in a fresh version. Accept's Balls to the Wall is just haunting. One major oversight is Firehouse's When I Look into Your Eyes, that was a repeat from Vol.1 and makes this lose a star.

5 out of 5 stars 80's hair bands.......2007-04-06

If you are a 80's hair band fan and want to hear them unplugged= this along with volume 1 and 2 are what you need!

3 out of 5 stars Hit or Miss.......2007-03-15

I'm a fan of all 3 of these CDs as I like of the bands on them. Like the other 2, I find this one to be pretty much hit or miss as well. I think the best new tracks are Tommy and Jack's High Enough, Eric Martin's Just Take My Heart and Autograph's Turn Up The Radio. Eric Martin still has the voice to pull off probably every song in Mr. Big's catalog acoustically. Some of the new tracks are still really good like Jani's Heaven and Kix' track. Other tracks have been offered up before from various sources so who hasn't heard Tesla's Signs a million times and seen Poison's MTV Unplugged show?

Low points on this compilation for me are what I consider to be one of the worst tracks I've heard in years in Slaughter's Up All Night. It's from a live performance and it's just dreadful. I don't know how this even made it onto this CD, it's laughable. William Hung could have done better with this track. I don't think Ratt's Way Cool Jr is much better.

Very odd arangement for Accept's Balls To the Wall, but it's not bad... just unexpected.

Again, like the other 2 CDs in this series there are several new gems, some re-releases and some garbage. For fans of the genre like me, I think they're a lot of fun though.

I had no idea Jani Lane put out a solo CD. I thought I would try this out to see if it would be any good. I actually thought that it wasn't too bad of a cd after all. It had good music and Jani sounded like Jani. If you liked Jani Lane on Warrant, you should give this CD a try.

4 out of 5 stars The True Heart o a now heart less Warrant lives!!.......2006-04-21

This Album, shows Jani still has the style, contrast, and venture to do and write what he has been so capable of for years. Even though many of the songs are written previous of the last 2 years, everyone who is a steadfast and true Warrant fan, knows that he is the heart beat of the band once truly known as Warrant. The lyrics, ring true, but yet too popish at times. If you have heard the new Warrant album, called BORN AGAIN.......you will realize how talented and he is and how much they will struggle without him..Give This A listen..you will enjoy!! THen, listen to this crap rendition of Warrant That is left..its not even up to a garage bands standards!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Jani makes it to the 00s. .......2006-04-20

Warrant's Jani Lane may be known to most as the voice behind the ultra cheesy songs "Cherry Pie," "Sometimes She Cries," "Heaven" among others, but he is actually an accomplished and gifted songwriter. Even when Warrant was rendered obsolete, the band stuck it out, releasing albums to a loyal, albeit small following. Whether Lane was writing pop-metal with such genre defining albums as "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich," (1989) and "Cherry Pie," (1990) or was going for a more "alternative" sound with "Ultraphopic" (1995) and "Belly to Belly," (1996) Lane has always shown a knack for writing good hooks with strong melodies.

Lane's solo debut "Down to One," (2002, 2006) goes for a modern sound, eschewing all traces of pop-metal that made him famous to begin with. "Down to One" still has Lane's signature voice and infectious hooks, but the songs sound very modern-as in late 90s/00s modern rock. It doesn't sound "alternative," but more akin to LIT, as in modern AOR. While there isn't anything terribly challenging or ambitious on this album, like "April 2031," (from Warrant's '92 album "Dog Eat Dog") "Down to One" is still a strong collection of songs that fans of Warrant should enjoy. In fact, if this album had been released on a major label and been promoted, there is no reason why it couldn't fly with the general public today.

4 out of 5 stars Great songs!.......2006-04-15

I knew this release had been out for quite some time, I even saw Lane last year and during the show reminded everyone to check it out. I have always been a big fan and it was "on the list" but I never got around to ordering.

Now it is released on sidewinder and at a reasonable price so I had to check it out. Most of the songs were written with Kerri Kelli...who also wrote "Face" off Under the Influence. Songs are of the same high calibur.

CD is very enjoyable...I have always liked Lane's voice and he is in fine form here. Lane has been critically under appreciated as a song writer...I think these are some well crafted songs. Production is great. I don't think it sounds like a warrant album but that's ok because it isn't.

6' under and don't trust me are my personal favorites. I would have liked to seen an all acoustic ballad like "I saw red" or "Stronger Now." If a song like that had been included, this easily would be 5 starts. As it is, it is well worth the money, a great effort. I hope he can keep it together and keep making great music.

Album Description

Full title - New Electronic Folk Music - The Peopletree Sessions UK Edition. 2002 reissue is a recording from the computer-based home recording folk collective The Peopletree & features the musical & vocal talents of model & actress Milla Jovovich. This edition features additional tracks not on the out-of-print U.S. issue. This recording was created in a series of late night meetings filled with conversation & song & plugged directly into the back of a computer in an apartment in the Hollywood Hills. That the raw recordings were then remixed & reinterpreted at other desktop studios in other parts of the world gives it a sense of time - you can feel, in listening the enthusiasm of a new era. Previously sold (for the last three years) through the internet, it's acquired somewhat legendary status - as much for its rarity (it has commanded $150 in online auctions) as for the intimacy, danger, beauty &

5 out of 5 stars Setting the Record Straight.......2007-01-07

Here's the flip side of the story that is related inaccurately, second and third hand, in some of the other reviews here. Although one may discount my version (I am obviously biased, as David Turin's father), one cannot ignore it, since I do have first-hand, real-time knowledge about the whole affair. Here are some of the facts I know:

The CD's genesis was almost ten years ago, when Perry Ferrell, with whom David was working closely at the time, mentioned that David and Milla Jovovich might do a track for an album he was putting together. David and Milla went to dinner at Perry's house to discuss this, but Perry ultimately had second thoughts about the track.

David and Milla then decided to continue working on tracks together, and did so on and off for about two months. She was as excited as he about what was to become the Peopletree Sessions, even offering to pay for them to be produced as an art album for the "underground" market (online and in independent record shops). David subsequently put much time and money into creating a CD that would show this other side of Milla. She personally approved the final master CD and its packaging. Shortly after its release (August 1998), Milla's associate Chris Brenner was quoted online as saying "We had a lot of fun creating ideas with its producer David Turin ... and we are both pleased with the result."

About a year later, the tone started changing, with Milla and Chris eventually completely disowning the CD. We conjecture that people in the movie and fashion industries that surround Milla felt it was bad for her image. Chris's latest rewriting of history - there were many - is given in a quotation attributed to him in another review here. (One can discern the volatility of Chris's nature by reading his obscene and out-of-control comment on the positive review given by Justin Me on 11/19/04, below; that volatility has been a hallmark of this dispute.) David has been absolutely astonished by the ever-increasing misrepresentations and calumnies. Given Milla's latter-day opposition, however, he limited production to the first 2000 CDs pressed, and attempted (unsuccessfully) to get Cherry Red to discontinue an ongoing plan for a separate release to the UK "underground" market.

Because of the constraints on production and distribution, David made no money from the CD. He nonetheless dutifully paid Milla royalties twice: a check on 2/1/00 that she cashed, and a check on 2/21/01 paid to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at her request. (One may bemusedly ask: if Milla, as now claimed, didn't authorize the CD, why would she accept royalties on it?)

What goads me into writing this so many years after the original controversy? It's because I see my son continuing to be defamed - as recently as 11/28/06 on this Amazon page - by those who unthinkingly and uncritically parrot Milla and Chris's revisionist mudslinging. Let me again set the record straight for the Amazon community: David entered into a project with Milla in good faith and fulfilled his original agreement with her. Milla is entitled to a change of heart, but not to a change of history.

I have given this CD an admittedly biased five-star rating, but at least I agree with the Guardian newspaper in London, which on 2/11/00 called it "so barking it's great."

3 out of 5 stars Torn.......2006-11-29

I haven't heard this cd, so this is not so much a review as it is a message to anyone considering buying this album new. Milla did not approve of this album. If you must buy it, please consider buying it used so the people who exploited Milla will not profit from you too. If I were Milla, I would feel really hurt and embarrassed. From my understanding, the guy who made this album used her vocals and put them over some not-so-great instrumentals, lied to her about his intentions when he tricked her into singing for him, and used photos his wife took for the art, photos they had no right to use for this purpose. I wonder if this even has anything to do with the fact that Milla has not been publishing music for us? Did she feel raped? Did this awful experience make her want to stop sharing her beautiful music with us? I feel robbed in a way too, because I really want to hear Milla. I loved the Divine Comedy and I want more. I know Milla is busy with other projects. She has many talents. I just wonder if she has lots of songs she keeps private because she is afraid to share them with us as a result of being exploited by selfish people. I may buy this album used just to hear her beautiful voice but I do so hesitantly. I try to put myself in Milla's shoes. Even if that guy doesn't profit from my purchase, I know Milla didn't want me to hear this cd, so out of respect for her, I probably won't listen to it. I'm very torn. What would you do?
In order to post this message, I had to rate this album. As I have not heard it, I rated it 3 because I don't want my rating to affect the score too much.

1 out of 5 stars ptoooey!.......2006-09-11

Mila? What Mila? Crappy music by a crappy band that uses I don't know what from Mila to market it's awful album. If you liked Divine Comedy you will HATE this. I wish Mila would release another album but this one just won't do.

1 out of 5 stars Grey space.......2006-03-05

I have not heard this album. The reason I rate it a one is because Milla Jovovich was robbed of her artistic creativity. Since this CD is not backed by Milla Jovovich, I wont be purchasing it.

Do as you will, im not trying to persuade anyone here, but if you are an artist (musician, painter, etc.) would you want to be in the situation where the art you created was being stolen from you, remade, and sold?

Because Im an artist I am making this decision.

peace and love

EDIT:Above was my original comment on this album. After reading George Turin's comment though, my mind has been changed. I am now not sure what to believe when it comes to this album, so I am withdrawing my earlier comments and staying neutral.

1 out of 5 stars I paid for this!?.......2006-02-17

I was unaware of Milla unauthorizing this material when I bought it. I was once again swindled out of my money. I love The Divine Comedy, but this is nothing less than a horrible exploitation of Milla. The tracks are something different, if that is what you're looking for. They are not, however, what I was looking for or expecting to hear. I can't tell the difference between many of these tracks. All they are is a bunch of strange rythms (if you would even call them rythms) with Milla's voice added into them and repeated until you want to scream at whoever produced it and punch them in the armpit. If you're a Milla fan, don't buy it. You'd just be giving money to some selfish sons of motherless goats. Also, the music doesn't sound anything like what Milla would produce. If you're into this kind of music, I guess you can go ahead, but i don't approve.

5 out of 5 stars Metal Mania!!!!.......2007-03-15

I remember when I was younger rockin' out hardcore to some 80s metal. It was one of the highlights of my childhood looking back. I was definitely excited to hear them "stripped". It was an amazing compilation of the songs I grew up on as well as the more mellow sound I've grown accustomed to lately. It was a major mix of nostalgia and excitement that took me back to a time when I had no worries. I highly recommened you pick this one up for a trip down memory lane.

4 out of 5 stars Nelson's version is awesome!.......2006-09-15

If you like Big Hair, this is a must have, even if for no other reason than to round out your collection. I have to say, Nelson's version of Love and Affection is awesome...should be on the radio now.

4 out of 5 stars 80's hair metal unplugged.......2006-09-09

With Metal Mania Stripped Vol.2 you many 80's hair metal classics served up acoustically. While none of the songs improve upon the original versions, this cd does make for an enjoyable listen. The songs lose the powerful feel that many of the originals had and go for the intimate feel. Some of the highlights are: Here I Go Again, Talk Dirty to Me, Heaven's Tail, Once Bitten, Twice Shy. I didn't really care for Round and Round, done in this way, but for the most part this is an enjoyable cd. The cd will mainly interest fans of the 80's hair metal genre.

4 out of 5 stars A fun album..........2006-02-19

...especially if you like anachronistic covers. Okay, they're not covers per se, they're rerecordings by the original artists, acoustic-style. Still, mellow hair metal has its charm, mainly as a guilty pleasure.

1 out of 5 stars I was hoping for Slayer to come in punch them all........2006-02-10

Do you remember MTV Unplugged? Do you remember watching your favorite bands absolutely embarrass themselves in front of coffee sipping yuppies who could only see these bands in this kind of venue because they know they'd get their tail kicked at a real show? Well, in case you forgot, now you can buy that same atrocity here and relive those magical years.

There's a reason MTV Unplugged isnt around and this CD proves it. Just listen to the samples here first before you give away your hard earned minimum-wage money.

4 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE--IT'S STRIPPED ALRIGHT.......2007-01-23

First off, let me say I pretty much buy any CD from the '80 bands. I grew up on it and still love it. So when my faves come out with a new CD, I just don't buy one, more like 3. Now, this CD is raw, its stripped baby, PEARCY never was a great vocalist, but if you loved RATT it was because of Pearcy's raspy vocals. It was a distinct sound, as soon as you heard his voice you knew it was RATT. Now STRIPPED has a great SET LIST, it truly does. Thats the good, PEARCY seems to struggle with all the changes in melody and song structure. I still cant pull myself away from this CD, its classic song one after another. I recommend it, I paid 14 bucks for it ordered it off AMAZON. Its worth the risk, the songs alone, sort of a "BEST OF" type deal. PEARCY voice really grows on you, just like KEIFERS from CINDERELLA. I also love the UNPLUGGED sound. its a great change. Lets keep supporting our 80'S bands, if we dont they wont make anymore new tunes. Also gave it 4 stars. I really do like it that much. If you love RATT, youll love it then. TAKE A CHANCE. BMIFC member #420

1 out of 5 stars Somebody Is Havin` A laugh ! ! !.......2006-07-31

I used to luv Ratt, they where good time rock. This cd made my laugh bacause it is total c@#p. I had to turn the volume down low so as nobody else could hear it. Sorry Stephen it`s rubbish.

2 out of 5 stars Confused & Bitter.......2006-05-17

I loved Ratt and I have enjoyed Pearcy's solo material for the most part but between Stripped and Fueler, I've lost a little respect for the man. The effort just isn't there anymore and the whole "I was a rock star and I created Ratt" bs is getting old. Listen to Pearcy's ramblings between songs on Stripped. This is not a happy performer. Also, Chuck Wright's bluesy bass lines seem out of place here with the Ratt tunes and some of these songs don't really sound much like the originals. I'm all for changing things up a bit when performing live but the way that some of these Ratt songs are arranged here is a real stretch. I gave Stripped two stars instead of one because of the cover tune "Oh Well". It is the one bright spot here.

kip winger is a very talented singer and song writer. this is his 2nd studio solo album. if you have heard his first solo cd you already know that it's not the same kind of music as he is playing in his band. music is like a mix of sting and peter gabriel, in other words very different. but don't be afraid, this cd is good if you are into that kind of stuff, but if you are looking for party anthems, you should look elsewhere!

5 out of 5 stars His best work.......2005-02-24

Although Silver Apples Of The Moon/The Wild Bull is a classic, Sidewinder/Until Spring is the best. It's more nuanced and subtle than Silver Apples and has a more fluid composition overall. After listening to Sidewinder/Until Spring, I'm left wondering what makes Autechre and Aphex Twin so special since the "IDM/glitch" thing they do is really not new at all. Composers like Subotnick(or Varese) take a much more conceptual and lyrical approach to their music, giving the pieces a life of their own, unlike IDM artists who just see how much they can degrade and resequence a sound file using Reaktor software. Believe me, there is a lyricism to true electronic music that most electronic artists today totally miss, and Subotnick hits it right on the dot!

5 out of 5 stars Until Spring - An Electronic Masterpiece.......2005-01-17

Until Spring is my favorite Subotnick composition. I bought it on LP many years ago and have long wanted it to be released on CD because the LP surface noise was very distracting during very quiet passages. Until Spring is filled with fascinating timbres, exciting rhythms, and great compositional ideas.

I don't care that much for Sidewinder, but the disk is worth it for Until Spring alone.

5 out of 5 stars Two masterpieces from an electronica legend.......2004-06-30

The Buchla Electric Music Box (Don Buchla, its inventor, disliked the word "synthesizer") had no greater virtuoso than Morton Subotnick, whose jazz experience brought incredible rhythmic vitality to the purrs, clicks, roars and howls he coaxed from the instrument. SIDEWINDER and UNTIL SPRING were two of his finest early works, and Mode has done electronic music fans a great service by releasing them both on a single disc. Their eerie textures and startling sound events draw the listener into a musical universe wholly Subotnick's own.
