It doesn't get any better than these two playing these guys! Some of it was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Use your imagination... It's all just swell.

5 out of 5 stars A Musical Treat.......2006-01-08

"The true mission of the violin is to imitate the accents of the human voice, a noble mission that has earned for the violin the glory of being called the king of instruments." ~ Charles-Auguste De Bériot ~

Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grapelli together had made some of the most beautiful music ever-recorded. And I believe that this is one of the many successful albums they recorded together. In this recording, both violinists have showed their excellent musicianship and interpretative eloquence as well, making it one of my most cherished CDs from my collection.

These are the main ingredients of a perfectly-made CD for your listening pleasure: mix violins, piano, bass and drums together, combine two terrific violinists, season with the best melodies in the 20s, 30s and 40s from Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart. Add the musical talents of Nelson Riddle, Max Harris, Martin Taylor, Eddie Tripp, Alan Clare and the rest of the studio musicians. Now all you have to do is to sit back, relax and savor these stunning melodies coming from your CD player. Listen to it in full-volume and fill your music room with the sheer beauty of these classics.

One of my favorite musical instruments is violin. With its four strings, it gives a whole wide range of musical versatility and I simply love the fascinating sound it produces.

My personal highlights are the best tunes from Jerome Kern - "The Way You Look Tonight" (Nelson Riddle arranged this particular track and conducted the Woodwind and Brass section), "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up," "Why Do I Love You?" and "All The Things You Are."

My choices from Irving Berlin's gems are - "Isn't It A Lovely Day?" featuring the great artistry of Nelson Riddle in arranging and conducting, "Cheek To Cheek" and "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm."

The Cole Porter repertoire represented his musical sophistication in "Night And Day," "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "Just One Of Those Things."

The choice cuts from the talented and creative team of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart are "My Funny Valentine" and "Thou Swell."

Listening to this CD is so delectable and equivalent to having my favorite dessert - be it Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake, Black Forest Cake, Chocolate Soufflé, Créme Brulee, Chocolate Mousse or Chocolate-Coated Strawberries! ;)

A musical treat.

3 out of 5 stars Edited.......2006-07-08

Although I have enjoyed Cheech and Chong's comedy for years, this CD has been edited from what it should have been. I still have the cassette version and was looking forward to the CD with higher sound quality, but instead got an abridgement of each track. What makes Cheech and Chong fun to listen to is their unrestrained humor and this holds back too much in my opinion.

3 out of 5 stars Hey Man, This Is On DVD Down Under Man!!!.......2004-06-18

Here in Australia this is available now on DVD!!! Tho i'm pretty disapointed with it. I had it for year's on the end of somthing else on VHS but I ran out of room on the VHS and never got to see how it ended... and I was sadened to know that my VHS version was only missing probably the last 3 minute's of the film, or the final song :(

Paying $16 Australian is not too bad. But it really saden'd me to find out it all only run's for about 50 minute's!!!! It dosent even go for an hour :( Please, If Universal ever read this, and you sometime in the future plan a release of this on DVD in the USA, then dont put it as it's own DVD, make it a bonus feature with another great Cheech & Chong film, 50 minute's is more a bonus material length man, not a DVD on it's own.

This look's like it was made for MTV or somthing? It's the last hurrah from Cheech Marion and Tommy Chong, it strays alot from any of the previous films, but it has it's moments! It basicly is kind of an interveiw with them, but on there terms, As they have produced a new album, and now they wanna make a video to it... there's some funny stuff in there, somtimes i never know if there serios on some things, or if it was planned, or rehersed, or just did it on the spot? But really, If Americans get a propper release of this on DVD, then I'd rather know it was a bonus feature on somthing. A 50 minute long movie with no captions & no bonus features is not worth having on it's own seperate issue. t should be a bonus feature!

3 out of 5 stars "Born In East LA" and the last of Cheech & Chong until 1997.......2003-04-23

Cheech & Chong officially split after they appeared in AFTER HOURS (1985). It wasn't until 1997 (12 years later) during the "Wild Card" episode of the CBS tv series "Nash Bridges" did they reunite in a professional way. This Cheech & Chong "Get Out Of My Room" (1985) is all recorded on professional video. It plays like a documentary where Cheech wants to do a music video "Get Out Of My Room", but Chong just wants to talk to girls. Actually, this is Richard "Cheech" Marin's first time as Director. "Elvira" Cassandra Peterson has a cameo appearance as well as Beverly D'Angelo and Jan Michael Vincent. Includes the hit video "Born In East LA" which was a take-off from the original tune "Born In The USA" by Bruce Springsteen. Both Cheech Marin and Bruce Springsteen have credit for "Born In East LA". The weird "Love Is Strange" video also included in this video.

5 out of 5 stars The Last Hurrah for Great Comedy Duo.......2002-03-23

What can I say about this truly entertaining comedy album? It's nostalgia for Generation X'ers such as myself who were "de-virginized" by Cheech & Chong's randy & off-beat drug related humor. For budding adolescents at the time, listening to their ridiculous & truly crude comedy was, strangely enough, appealing! The highlight of this album, of course, is Cheech's spoof of Bruce Springsteen's hit song "Born in the USA". BORN IN EAST L.A. is still a great tune to perk up the day. As a testament to their memorable comedy talents, this is a true collectible for any fan. I just wish these guys reunite one of these days.

1 out of 5 stars big dissappointment, man..........2001-07-17

WARNING! Anybody who's seen "up in smoke" and thinks "hey, lets get some more of that excellent entertainment" - well, think again. Get Out Of My Room is poor, to say the least. Not a single decent joke, no creativity, no running-gags....

2 out of 5 stars A strange experience..........2003-11-03

They're both brilliant violinists but in very different genres, and Menuhin by his own admission never learned to improvise (unlike many of today's classical performers): he was trained in the post-Liszt, pre-jazz window when improvisation had died out in classical music and even cadenzas followed the score strictly (if Beethoven didn't write one, play Kreisler's). And it shows, rather painfully. He achieves a brilliant tone but that's about it: he plays these Broadway tunes completely "straight", and any student could do that equally well.

The CD is worthwhile for its curiosity value, but you'd get much better musical value buying Grappelli's jazz and Menuhin's classical recordings separately.

5 out of 5 stars Menuhin&Grappelli.......2002-08-17

Music just does not get any better than this CD! I am a musician and hearing these two artists is a thrill. This is a CD for all music lovers. You will not be sorry if you purchase this CD

5 out of 5 stars always a winning pair.......2001-01-29

You simply can't go wrong with a combination of two of the most talented violinists of our time. This cd is a wonderful showcase for them both and the choice of music is the greatest classics. It's a fun, winner of a cd.
