Customer Reviews:
Carlin with an edge.......2004-04-13
Those expecting Hal Sleet, the Hippy Dippy Weatherman, may not recognize this version of Carlin, but it is satiric commentary at its finest - with a higher energy level. Carlin still excels in exploiting the ludicrousness of the mundane ("Love and Regards," one of his best bits ever) and just plain silliness ("Groups and Charities," "Sports"), but this is edgier. Carlin began tapping into his anger in the '80s and it produced even sharper observations ("Battered Plants", "Missing") in rants that make Dennis Miller look like an amateur. There is more rage in such works as "Back in Town," "Jammin' in New York" and "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics," all of which I suggest, but to those who need a softer introduction into later Carlin should try this one first.
Very Funny.......2002-09-13
Geroge Carlin does it again with is funny antics. Buy you'll want to listen to it again and again
Classic Carlin...at his best!.......2002-03-10
The George Carlin of today, unfortunately, is not like the Carlin of yesterday. He's so political and serious now, I hardly laugh anymore. But this CD is pure Carlin. Simple, yet hysterical. The way Carlin use to be.
Playin' With Your Head.......2001-04-20
If you like satirical comedy, you'll love this. The piece on sports is one of the best comedy bits I've ever heard. If you're a Carlin fan, this CD is a must have.
A classic from the master.......2001-03-27
It's great to see this available on CD. It originally came out in the mid 80's, and I used to have it on video, recorded from the HBO presentation. This was one of his last really funny routines before he began to slip into bitterness and repetition. From the opening riff, when he goes off on all the possible ways to say hello and good-bye, he shows us his love of wordplay. Later on are the classic routines about how football, basketball, & football are the only real sports, as well as the one on losing stuff.
This being George Carlin, the language is beyond R-rated, but it is also beyond funny. Buy it -- you won't be disappointed.
