1 out of 5 stars Painfully Bad.......2002-08-17

I was looking forward to some classic Redd Foxx material. What I got was pitifully unfunny and horribly recorded. This actually sounds like a "Worst of Redd Foxx" recording. It's a pity because the man was so much better than what this product shows.
I tried to give zero stars, but the review form forces you to give at least one star.
The only guarantee here is, if you buy it, you will be let down.

5 out of 5 stars YOU BIG DUMMY.......2002-02-04

MAN THIS GUY IS A GENUIS HE'S AN ALL AMERICAN AND I
WILL GIVE HIM 5STARS

4 out of 5 stars Foxx Amongst His Own.......2001-03-13

Performed in front of an African-American audience, Uncensored sees Redd Foxx seeming very relaxed as he delivers joke after hilarious joke. The audience is with him, he's with them, and it all makes for a very pleasurable, uplifting and genuinely funny listening experience.

He tells of unfaithful wives, cannibal chiefs, the origins of certain black expressions, contemplates what would happen if only Liberace, Johnny Mathis and Sonny Liston survived WWIII and even relates a story of Moses, St. Peter and "J.C." playing a friendly game of golf. He tells one tale after another to an audience that is very hugely enjoying itself.

The title of the CD might fool you. Foxx's material is not explicit. It's more implicit and subtle, and this was the man's genius. Unlike today, a comedian couldn't just come out and "say it." He had to be crafty about it or face whatever would ensue, be it censorship, arrest, or some other consequence. Foxx was one of the masters of this type of craftiness. This is why, in my opinion, his stuff is infinitely more clever than most of the raw stuff that's out there today.

One of the other things that made Foxx great was his interplay with his audience. Behind the raspy voice, pinpoint timing and wonderfully bawdy humor, was a caring, sensitive man who was aware that, perhaps, his audience really needed to let go. Many times, you can hear him say, "Go on and laugh, honey" or "You can laugh out loud here, friends." Also, to his credit, in all the recordings I have of Foxx (and I have a few), he was never cruel with the people that came to see him, unlike so many comedians of today. This undercurrent of true sensitivity amidst all the laughs, at least to me, was what made Foxx a truly great comedian.

Foxx saw hard times when he was starting out in comedy, and I get the impression that he was sensitive to the fact that perhaps some of his audience might've been going through some hard times, as well. Even years after the material was initially recorded, whenever you let Redd Foxx take a spin on your turntable or in your CD player, be it in the form of Uncensored or any of his many other albums, you end up in a better mood. I'm sure his audience of the time felt the exact same way.

5 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC.......2000-04-23

REDD FOXX un-Loads here.it's Funny non-stop.His Material Has Punch all the way thru.Redd is a Pioneer Of Comedy&deserves more props than he ever gets.A Genius Of Story-Telling&Stage.

4 out of 5 stars Speak for yourself, love!.......2004-08-08

This is the third volume of uncensored crank calls from the Crank Yankers TV show. How is this volume different from the first two volumes? This one is in stereo! This time around, the caller is in the left speaker and the person answering the phone is in the right speaker. Other than that, it's much the same as the other two CDs. Funny crank phone calls by hilarious characters like Special Ed, Hadassah Guberman, Elmer Higgins, Niles Standish, Dick Birchum and Gladys Murphy. If you are a fan of crank phone calls, you should enjoy this.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.......2004-01-09

This C.D. is funny the first time on a couple of tracks, but then it is all boring

I would suggest not buying this because it is a one time only C.D.
But, it was O.K.

3 out of 5 stars Crank yankers rating.......2003-12-27

I think Crank yankers is absolutely hillarious. I give a lot of credit to the comics involved in the series. I think they are all talented. I do wish, however, that they would invent more episodes with the older guy, I think his name is Elmer. The best episodes are with him.

2 out of 5 stars Hang up these puppets..........2003-06-10

Not only are the crankers not nearly as funny as they were on the first two installments, but the people being cranked aren't either. What makes Volume 3 so boring and UNfunny is the fact that most of the people who are called sound so unammusingly annoyed, not really willing to participate on any level at all. The irrate people just sound bothered and the clueless people sound irritatingly stupid. Even the "puppets" have problems here, being more crass and ruder than is required to be effectively funny. Perfect examples are Bircham's humorless tirade while calling for employment and Jimmy Kimmel's bratty-sounding kids calling a bowling alley with the age old prank (think about it). I kind of felt sorry for the guy on the other end of the phone who was really too dumb to figue out what was going on with these two snots. So while the first two volumes are fun to be had by all, this one is a snoozer. And I do agree with the reviewer prior to me: This should have been a DVD of the skits on Vols 1 & 2.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD, wicked funny.......2003-05-04

you should definetly by this cd, this one is bettr then vol.1 and 2.This is a wicked good cd, they should come out with a crank yankers dvd.

4 out of 5 stars Do you feel me? I feel you!.......2004-08-05

How is this CD different from the first Crank Yankers CD? This one features the theme song by Fountains of Wayne! Other than that, it is much the same as the first Crank Yankers CD. Funny crank phone calls! Hilarious characters like Hadassah Guberman, Niles Standish, Elmer Higgins, Spoonie Luv and Special Ed! If you are a fan of crank phone calls, you will dig this CD.

5 out of 5 stars ... Slapping Good Time.......2003-06-03

If the first cd couldn't be funnier, the second cd comes out twice as strong. Crank Yankers Vol. 2, def. makes its mark in the comedy world for sure. I just hope a DVD could come out of these as well to make this awesome collection complete.

5 out of 5 stars Funniest Thing Since Vol.1!.......2003-04-01

Shoulda Sent It Sooner!, Pee Delivery, And Hallmark Cards were my favorite tracks but this whole cd is funny. I thought this would be a toned down addition to volume 1 but this cd is a lot funnier than the first! Tracy Morgan is great with his Spoonie Luv "Don't change" "I feel you" funny as hell! I hurt my sides just laughing hysterically from the second track to the last with Florentine as Special Ed "I'm going to Hawaii yeahhhhhhh!"
A must have!

5 out of 5 stars awesome cd.......2002-11-22

i just bought this cd yesterday. personally i think it is better than some adam sandler stuff. as soon as i heard track 12 "Pee Delivery" i started laughing so hard i thought i was going to pass out. elmer is the best ever. and track 7 "Shoulda Sent It Sooner" is also very funny it is by the touch-tone terrorist. if you love crank yankers good prank calls and comedy i highly recommend this cd!

5 out of 5 stars Foul language with great memories.......2007-05-25

I couldn't believe I'd gotten this on CD, it was so long ago I'd heard it (LP-times!). She tells great stories with stories and songs, many using pretty foul language, but I remember them from some really great drag shows a long time ago and talk about memory lane! I was right back in the small, grimy, bur fun lesbian bar in the early 80's with totally mad drag queens, one lip synching to nasty Milly Jackson music, two in the morning, everyone pretty high, it was a great party.

I believe Jackson is now more Christian in her recording, but I sure hope she doesn't rue her past. It was great. I'm happy for her now and I thank her for what she was doing back then.

5 out of 5 stars Satisfied Customer.......2007-03-13

My recent purchase through Amazon was outstanding. Both the quality of the product and delivery time was excellent. I would highly recommend any new customers who have not had the experience of purchasing from Amazon to try it once and I guarantee you will end up as satisfied as I am with my purchases.

5 out of 5 stars Ouch!! Super Millie in the house.......2007-02-02

Like many a Millie fan...I wore the album out. It is wonderful to have posession of this great live performance, once again. I'm surprised how new friends are taken by Millie's......well..you know what I mean.

4 out of 5 stars Motormouth Millie: At Her Raunchy Best [4 and half stars].......2007-01-11

She is not only a great singer - she can sing and shout with great pitch, and I consider her raspy growl as enjoyable as the voices of Etta James, Gladys Knight, Irma Thomas, and even Aretha Franklin - she is also a comedian who, whether in song or addressing the audience, can be as funny as Mo'Nique, Sheryl Underwood, Sommore, Margaret Cho, Wanda Sykes, and maybe even Redd Foxx. These live recordings showcase both her vocal and comedic range.

LIVE AND UNCENSORED (with "Live and Outrageous" as a "bonus CD") consists of 25 songs on 2 discs, comprised of 1979's "Live and Uncensored" (tracks 1-17 on disc one & tracks 1-7 on disc two) and 1982's "Live and Outrageous" (tracks 8-15 on disc two). Discs packaged in flip-open black jewel case; total running time: 137:35. Booklet includes musician personnel, songwriting credits, one grainy black & white photograph, a Los Angeles Times quote, and location of the live performances. Sound quality is excellent.

"Live and Uncensored" was recorded at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles; "Live and Outrageous" was recorded at Mr. Vee's Figure 8 in Atlanta. Backing vocalists at the Roxy performance are credited as: Ray, Goodman & Brown; Pure Gold; Brandye; Lonnie Youngblood. Backing vocalists for the Atlanta performance are Carol Bigger, Yvonne Hodges, and Vicki Hampton. Recording dates are not provided.

Many of the songs segue into the next, and some are done as medleys. The first few tracks do just this. "Keep the Home Fires Burning" momentarily goes into the Blues song "Rock Me Baby"; her rap (monolog set to music), "Logs and Thangs", momentarily goes into The Jones Girls' "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else". Then she sings an up-tempo version of "Put Something Down on It" that segues (in a separate track) into Rod Stewart's "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy". She later pairs her ballads "What Am I Waiting For" and "I Still Love You (You Still Love Me)" in a beautiful fashion.

Millie's live "raps" (or monologs), as one might expect, are much more raunchy than the ones recorded in the studio - and hence more blunt, more "real", and even funnier. The "..... U Symphony", which some may recognize from the documentary film "Wigstock", is Millie's self-proclaimed foray into "classical music" and features her "directing debut" of a chorus singing the f-word to a Beethoven/Bach-inspired melody. Her introduction to the song includes a "shout-out" to celebrity attendees the Pointer Sisters and Millie's hilarious commentary regarding her fans and detractors.

There isn't a bad song in the bunch. There is her extended analysis of the absurdity of daytime dramas, "The Soaps"; her versions of "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)"; and Kenny Rogers's "Sweet Music Man" (Be warned that while given a separate track, she only sings 51 seconds of "Hurts So Good" at the end of "Sweet Music Man"). Disc one ends with "Give It Up", where she comments about how "women's lib ...and the gay movement" has taken over, and a funky version of "A Moment's Pleasure".

Her 1982 performance begins with "Passion", which is followed by "A Horse or Mule"; the latter is a short monolog where she discusses how her commercially unsuccessful Country music album (1981's "Just a Lil' Bit Country") led to her recording another live album. She seems less playful and more aggressive (even hostile) here, but she is still funny, even when her comments are of a racial nature (as on "I Had to Say It", which concludes with what seems to be an impromptu homage to the funky music of James Brown). She also ups the ante in regards to profanity, which some of us appreciate. The set includes a rendition of Lionel Richie's "Still".

I only wish there was a video of her performances!

This is a must-have for Millie Jackson fans. I only wish there were more than two live albums. With good music and funny commentaries, this CD is enjoyable on multiple levels.

5 out of 5 stars The MANY Sides of Millie Jackson.......2006-11-18

This CD issue is actually a combination of 2 Millie Jackson live albums, the double album, Live and Uncensored from 1979, and the single disk, Live and Outrageous from 1980. The CD follows the same order of each live
album.

Both of these releases show off the unique and unihibited delivery of Millie. Ms. Jackson's adult side is well represented with tracks like, Never Change Your Lover In The Middle of The Night, If Loving You Is Wrong I Don't Wanna Be Right, I Had To Say It, and Logs n Thangs. Her infamous Phuch You Symphony takes her adult humor to a new level, and this "classical revamp" is still featured in her shows from time to time.

Millie can also interpet a song like no one else, forget about calling these songs "cover songs", when Millie sings a song made famous by another artist, her version makes the track her own. Toto's, Hold The Line,
Lionel Richie's Still, Kenny Rogers, Sweet Music Man, Kenny Logins This Is It, and Rod Stewarts, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy all get a "Mille Revamp", and the songs are all better for it.

Sweet Music Man gets a special node for both her passionate rap about relationships, and the inclusion of one of her first hits, Hurts So Good, worked into the middle of it. Another rap not to be missed is The Soaps, trust this reviewer you will never look at a Soap Opera the same again.

On the original release of Live and Uncensored (that was recorded at the LA icon, The Roxy), a music critic for the LA Times, stated that "Millie is better than Bette Midler, and" he also listed a number of notable female singers of the time. He gets no argument from me.

1 out of 5 stars Huge waste of money.......2004-11-29

I can't believe I sat and watched the entire season for maybe 3-4 calls that were good.

1 out of 5 stars It would be a 5 but..........2004-10-09

I used to love the Crank Yankers... for about one episode. At the end of the episode I realized THEY'RE A POOR COPY OF THE JERKY BOYS!!! This is pretty good if you're addicted to prank calls, but I highly suggest that you buy the first two Jerky Boys albums as well and just compare the quality for yourself.

3 out of 5 stars By far the funniest out of the 3.......2004-08-29

This is the funniest album out of the 3 of them. From Niles Standish, to Bobby Fletcher, this CD will bring you joy. One of the best $20 I ever spent. A must have for any Crank Yankers fan. If you are not, you jusy have to take a little bit of time to get used to the humor. Once you are used to it, you will ike it.

4 out of 5 stars Come one, come all!.......2004-07-11

This is the first collection of real crank phone calls taken from the Crank Yankers television show. The TV show uses puppets to reenact the calls, but since crank calls are inherently an audio form of humor, you don't really need to see the puppets to get the joke. There are a lot of funny recuring characters on the show, and many of them are featured here. We have Gladys Murphy the black housewife, Birchum the crazy Vietnam vet, Spoonie Luv the playah, Cammie the stripper, Niles Standish the perverted British gentleman, Special Ed the retarded guy and others. This is funny stuff. If you enjoy crank phone calls, you should dig it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Yankers.......2004-02-24

The Muppets with a foul mouth . If you loved to do prank phone calls as a child , you'll love this CD . There's lovable characters like Special Ed , the retarded adult , Elmer , a funny old man and my favourite Spoonie Luv played by SNL veteran Tracey Morgan . I also recommend Volume 2&3.
