3 out of 5 stars I want cotton candy!.......2004-08-19

Jim Florentine is familiar to fans of crank phone calls from playing "Special Ed" and "Bobby Fletcher" on Crank Yankers. This CD also features crank phone calls, although in this case they are incoming calls from telemarketers. Just about everyone hates telemarketers, and here Jim tries to "get even" with them by being annoying. Some of the tactics he uses are: pretending to be pooping, crying, pretending to be retarded, acting hard of hearing, chewing loudly, snoring, coughing and belching. Most of this is pretty funny, and it's amusing how he tries to keep people on the line when they obviously want to hang up. But there are a few skits that go a bit "too far", in my opinion. Pretending to be dying of cancer, or saying that you just lost your family in a plane crash, crosses over line into bad taste. Something that tragic just doesn't tend to be funny (althought there are certainly exceptions to that). Anyway, most of the bits are funny, and fans of crank phone calls should dig it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Comedy.......2004-01-31

Jim Florentine has one the best CDs for comedy. I can't wait to buy the other CDs this guy will put out in the future. (Eye watering laughter!)

4 out of 5 stars And now for something completely different.......2003-02-03

What a great idea! For those of us, which probably means all of us, that have been bugged to [the max] by people who seemed to be qualified for nothing more than trying to sell you something you don't need, this recording was a blessing. It shows a great selection of ideas to turn the tables on these folks by keeping them on the phone as long as possible with no intention of every purchasing their product.

You see, telemarketers really don't mind (well, at least after the first 500 times) being hung up on right away. This is the way to weed out the definite "NOs" and get to another [victim] that much quicker. The key is to keep them on the phone as long as possible, which prevents them from generating sales. That's what gives a feeling of a job well done.

True, some of these situations are like shooting fish in a barrel, as [they tend to be] saddled by a strict script [by] the subjects. And true, you can tell by many of the calls that they seem to be from an initial inquiry done by Florentine, so these people are returning calls more than initiating them. And true, the callers biologically are people and this is their bread and butter.

But hey! Too bad! I, and I'm sure a lot of you, have had bad experiences with these people. Either by people who won't take "NO" for an answer, or call back when you tell them not to, or hide behind a charity (when they're really professional fund raisers) to those who once in awhile have gotten through to you at a weak point and actually sold you something you didn't need. To all those "people", this [ones] for you!

5 out of 5 stars It's horrible.......2002-08-29

I ordered this CD as a gift. I'm informed by the recipient that this is absolutely INSPIRED. He hates telemarketing calls, and enjoys outragous humor (he's hooked on Howard Stern).

Of course, I'm thinking that there are good moments, and I hate telemarketers, but it's not funny when one person is jerking around another. . . I also think TV shows that run film clips of people hurting theirselves and claiming that it's funny aren't very funny, so maybe it's a defect in my humerous.

1 out of 5 stars I regret buying.......2002-02-28

What a waste. The tracks on this CD are too long and tiresom. I just didn't think it was funny. I don't like listening to people burp or chew with their mouths open, it's gross. It's really frustrating to listen to because he's trying to keep the conversation going when the caller obviously wants to hang up. The "jokes" are just dragged on and worn out. I found myself skipping to the next track a few times before I even finished.
