On his sophomore CD, Jason Aldean, the Academy of Country Music's Top New Male Vocalist for 2006, continues to rely on a proven formula--recording several John Rich co-writes, and reprising producer Michael Knox--while pushing harder on the rocking side of his Georgia roots. A platinum-seller his first time out, he stocks the new album with songs from reliable hitmakers (Brett James, Jim Collins, Tom Shapiro) to score at radio (watch for his duet with Miranda Lambert, "Grown Woman"), but also isn't afraid to get edgy ("Back in This Cigarette," about an anguished breakup). A serviceable baritone, a hat act with pierced ears, Aldean relies on attitude when all else fails, and it works. "Johnny Cash," his rocking ode to rebellion and rebirth, is the fastest-rising single of his career. --Alanna NashAlbum Description
Jason Aldeans new album Relentless is a giant step forward. After achieving Platinum success with his debut every one involved knew that the best was yet to come. Jason has grown so much in the last 2 years and it shows in the songs that he has delivered for this album.Customer Reviews:

Solid.......2007-06-28
There are a lot of really good tracks on the CD including "I Use What I Got", "Cigarette", and "Laughed Until We Cried."
The first single, "Johnny Cash" is okay... it's just too manufactured for radio... it's just not a natural song, which seems to be a theme with these songs. A lot are a product of the Nashville songwriting formula.
At times, the songs sound dangerously close to Rascal Flatts, which is bad. That's not something anyone should aspire to be.
All and all, it's a solid album and I like it. He makes it work, and his voice is awesome. I just wish he wasn't touring with Rascal Flatts so I could actually see the man in concert. Good thing he'll be around for years to come.
great sophomore effort.......2007-06-07

Mysterious Metaphors.......2007-01-19
She's waiting like an iceberg
Waiting to change
But she's cold inside
She wants to be like the water"
The beauty in KT Tunstall's voice gives me shivers in the first song. She weaves in mysterious metaphors that are enjoyable to unravel.
The world she paints make sense in regards to emotions hidden and experiences well lived. With telescopic precision, she unveils the heart of emotional conflicts.
"The fire fades away
Most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's to hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're the other side of the world to me"
The lyrics speak for themselves and KT's voice is a vehicle for perfection. The songs are playful, relaxing and you may wish you were in a coffee shop listening to the first two tracks. Then, "Black Horse" takes off with dangerous appeal. Coffee shop casual turns country and then she delves into sultry moods. The delicate "Silent Sea" is haunting in beauty.
With dramatic pacing changes and a variety of familiar musical comforts, the album shines in places and wanders in melancholy momentarily between energetic creativity. Other Side of the World and Silent Sea stand out as unique treasures with poetic appeal and seem to reflect KT's heart and bring out the rapturous elements in her voice.
If you enjoy thinking about the ocean, you may also
enjoy Evening Ocean's The Attraction.

Dislike "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree"? The album is FAR better!.......2006-12-28
But here's where things turned suprising for me. I found numerous rave reviews for this album (one that dared Aimee Mann to write songs as good!) and these finally forced me to listen beyond the one (and, to me, one dimensional) song.
Wow, what a happy suprise!
Seriously, if all you've heard is the one big 'hit' in America then you're really missing out... and getting the completely WRONG idea about Tunstall--this is music that is far more complex, intriguiging and, well, just plain better than "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" would lead you to believe.
Get it.
In fact, get the CD/DVD version! The CD adds a great song and the DVD will make a couple of things apparent straight away: Tunstall is even better live, and the videos illustrate that in the UK she's marketed a bit more truthfully, as the lion's share of the videos are UK specific and are of the far more superior songs to her one American 'hit'.
The DVD is worth the extra price.......2006-10-12
This CD/DVD combo contains the "Eye to the Telescope" CD -- with a bonus track that's not on the regular CD -- PLUS a DVD of music videos and live performances of several of the songs from the CD. The bonus song (called "Immune") is excellent; and is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Most of the music videos are quite good (though I'll admit that the video for the hit song "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" wasn't quite as good as I had hoped it would be). But it's the live performances that really make this DVD worthwhile. As good as KT Tunstall is in the recording studio, she's even better on stage in front of a live audience. I've seen her a few times on TV and the Internet, and was very impressed with the quality of her work on stage. The live performances on this DVD are simply astounding. In fact, the live version of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" on the DVD is far better than the studio version from the CD and the music video.
If you like KT Tunstall, then this CD/DVD combo set is definitely worth the price.
I'm not big on "double-dipping" either, but yes, THIS is an exception..........2006-10-10
To be honest, this is the way the album SHOULD have been released in the US in the first place!!! I mean, it did take a year for it to even GET released in the US, but as they say, timing is everything. The album itself is a masterpiece really, good gutsy spunky singer/songwriter pop/soul/rock. 12 cool songs, varying in tempo and mood, from all-out rockers to introspective, soulful, atmospheric ballads. The album is not at all overproduced either. The big US "hit", the short and tight "Black Horse And The Cherry Tree" is not the only good song here, unlike most artists, espesh 1-hit wonders. I'm not saying KT WILL be a 1-hit wonder in the US (she's not in the UK), but it could turn out that way, like Daniel Powter. I love the big catchy UK hit "Suddenly I See" (which should have clicked here too...it was a natural followup to "Black Horse"), opener "Other Side Of The World" is beautiful, the way KT breaks into falsetto on the chorus, but my fave would be the EXTREMELY catchy, jangly "Another Place To Fall"...whatta song!!! I call her sound "busker soul", and she reminds me of a few artists mixed together in her own individual way. Maybe Michelle Branch meets the late great Kirsty MacColl??? You figure her out. Keeps her music constantly interesting, and I'm looking forward to hearing KT evolve over time. I had the original US album, and didn't completely grasp her, and then I heard KT's fellow Scotswoman Sandi Thom, whom I liked as well, thinking she was better than KT. Then I saw this deluxe version, and hearing Sandi's record again, I'm thinking I could be wrong, as something was missing. Well, I was wrong, KT IS better, and this package sealed the deal. The music clicked more now and I had to see the visuals to see she is the real deal, and what's cooler is she's completely unpretentious and has no ego; I'd get on with KT very well I think, she seems really cool as a person, like I'd love to have a beer with her sometime. Oh yeah, the bonus track on this version, the acoustic, spare, Live At Gaia Music in London, performance of "Immune", another KT original not on the album, is a beautiful song, and like the rest of this album, and a fave singer/songwriter of mine, Shawn Mullins, just KT's voice and guitar can just draw you in. And to think, she was self-taught!!!!! Makes sense actually, as true originals can never BE taught and that way, they come up with their individual style and sound, if you know what I mean.
Anyhoo, the packaging on this deluxe packge is nice, I like the cover with the overlaying of shiny details on top of that cool silvery B+W pic of KT. The extra pics inside are cool, of KT busking and with her band. And the expanded booklet is nice, with the extra pics and sleeve artwork of her UK singles, full lyrics, etc. My only problem, and it's a tiny quibble...the side spine was printed upside down. I had to cut and tape it so it's right-side up, some people don't mind...it's a slight, but fixable, problem with me, what can I say???
Now, most important in this package is the DVD (without it, you basically have the original album, correct??), which is 41 minutes and change, a nice value, not too skimpy. It's cool to have all 5 videos from the album, including both US & UK clips of "Suddenly I See". I hope they don't redo "Other Side Of The World" for US play on VH1, as the UK clip is fine and has a cool concept along with the lovely song that it is. And, the 5 live performances are GREAT!!! Three of them at Washington, D.C.'s awesome 9:30 club, with her full band; I was there for another show whilst visiting my relatives for Thanksgiving one year, I love that place. The other two are even better, at one of my fave venues: NYC's tiny intimate Mercury Lounge, just KT on acoustic guitar and pedals, and her drummer boyfriend accompanying her. What's cool is she's creating all the sounds at that moment...guitar sounds and layers of vocals & effects using echo. You have to see it to know what I mean. And KT seems so normal, accessable, etc...aka not a "star", which is probably how she likes it, as do I. The only thing I wish the DVD had, in addition to all this goodness, is an interview with KT, an on-the-road profile or a documentary on the making of "Eye To The Telescope" as many of these types of DVD have, oh well...this DVD is good enough.
This package, you really GET what KT Tunstall is all about...she might go down as a "1-hit wonder" in America, but really, who the hell cares??? Better to be remembered as an ARTIST. I prefer artistry, not hits.
KT.......2006-09-20
I wanted to buy her CD, there was something about it that said "No, Don't buy it". I couldn't figure it out, Until now!! If you bought the 1st either have it as a back up, or sell it used. This would be the one to buy :) All the Vids, and some of her Live. If you never go to concerts, this is prefect for you to experience it.

New Jersey native and California resident Trout is an established guitar star in Europe and he capitalizes on that fact on "Relentless," ripping through a live session of original material in front of an enthusiastic Amsterdam audience. Trout, as the title states, is a relentless guitarist with an aggressive and energetic style. On his seventh album he and his backing trio the Radicals deliver another solid, if admittedly sometimes less than sensational, exercise in well-played rocking blues, with the emphasis on rocking. Trout paid his blues dues working with John Lee Hooker, Canned Heat, and John Mayall but his hard and heavy sound is rooted in rock guitar showmanship. Fortunately he has the licks to keep it interesting, although when things get too frantic, such as on the overkill album closer "Mercy," it's difficult to discern the blues base of the music. Trout does slow down briefly, turning in the short acoustic tune "Lonely Tonight," but for the vast majority of the time the music is loud, lively, and barely blue. --Michael PointCustomer Reviews:

Recording at a "relentless" pace, it seemed.......2005-09-26
The man's perpendicular enthusiasm to his comedy is mind-boggling. His temperament throughout serves its purpose, letting the viewer - you, me, what have you - familiarize ourselves what Hicks meant to convey through words and expression, thought and philosophy; all the dice . . .
I hadn't even gotten into him `til late 2003, either, which troubles me still further to know the man has been dead for eleven years. I'm just thankful his releases ("Arizona Bay," "Dangerous," "Rant in E-Minor," and even "Love, Laughter and Truth") were able to be shown to the public, so all can get the idea of how his mind worked. His beliefs, many thought, were poorly devised, but that isn't true; he had right conviction and he defended that right to all who would listen and / or oppose. Sure, he had problem with fundamental Christianity, government, "pro-life" representatives, and even an issue with what was deemed as "objective" news reporting, but Bill Hicks was colorful in his attempt to communicate with his audience, and relentless when he came to dull-witted argumentation. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind, by any means, and that kind of sheer capacity for audacious comedy can be heard (and possibly praised) by many willing to listen.
More importantly, my favorite ensuing tracks on this recording were "Sex on Trial ," "Rockers Against Drugs Suck," "Great Times on Drugs," and "What Is Pornography?" all of which speak out to me in humorous methods, as well as profound merit, the whole time.
To be brief, I respect the man for combining such verbose humor with creative, theoretical opinion, and letting the audience into his soul with each recording. If you're looking for simple comedy without much conviction or meaning, this comedian is not for you; Bill Hicks was vastly clever, put exertion in his profession, and made plenty of simpletons not only laugh in excitement, but also think for themselves and marvel the experience there forth.
Relentlessly Twisted.......2003-06-11
A damned shame he's gone.
A Comedian ahead of his time.......2003-02-24
Hysterical and insightful........2002-11-19
On "Relentless," Bill Hicks attacks the guilty and self-righteous people who like to think of themselves as politically correct--especially those who disdain pornography, smoking and drugs to the most extreme extent--exposing them as the hypocrites they are.
This album was made ten years ago, but the material still is pertinent to our times, particularly since TV news is not only blown out of proportion, but is almost always depressing.
When I first heard this album, I laughed so hard, I nearly stopped breathing. But I also became enlightened.
"Hey Kids! It's Beezlebozo the Clown!!" Hicks' Best Album.......2002-07-26
You're just going to have to purchase Bill Hicks' "Relentless," to find out. In the short amount of time of hearing about this guy and purchasing one of his albums, (time is about three weeks), I have purchased all five of his albums. Or at least the ones I could find. Bill Hicks has grown on me a lot faster than most of the other comics I have listed to. It's just a shame that he went through life without getting the recognition and respect he deserved. How can a brilliant comic genious be so underrated?
"Relentless" is 100% Bill Hicks. Filled with anger and outrageous ideas and theories, Bill Hicks is able to make us laugh and think at the same time. He was a man who did not know any fear, and was not afraid to talk about stuff that other comics wouldn't even dare to think about. He doen't follow the traditonal formula, as in talking about love, marriage, and family. No, he talks about drugs, war, politics, and a whole bunch of other things.
This is by far the best Bill Hicks CD. I really enjoyed listening to every track. Bill will be missed, and it's up to us to make sure that more people know about him. Hicks was, and still is, a comic genius who knew how to entertain. A great commentator and observer, he was.
We miss you Bill! R.I.P.

Product Description
A new one-act musical featuring the award winning performance of Shonn Wiley, David Epstein and Tim Byrnes. A nameless novelist arrives in New York intent on getting his first book published. As he recounts his daily misadventures in a series of letters to his girl back home, we see through his eyes the colorful eccentric, vibrant and wildly bizarre characters that make up his new life, and the tragic events that make up his old one. With music and lyrics by Timothy Huang, The View From Here "...plays like a fresh variation on 'Wonderful Town' propelled by stunning music and a tremendously appealing solo performance by Shonn Wiley. Timothy Huang's score boasts masterful plot- and character-driven songs and comedic set pieces... Some have a contemporary throb, but others have a haunting melodic quality that seems torn from the annals of the Great American Songbook, populated by such folks as George Gershwin and Harold Arlen..." - Ron Cohen, BackstageCustomer Reviews:

Maryland's Danny Gatton was best known as a rockabilly cat, the man who put blistering guitar licks behind the likes of Robert Gordon, Billy Hancock and Delbert McClinton. Like his heroes Les Paul, Lenny Breau and Hank Garland, however, Gatton is both a country picker and a solid jazz man; he stole the show on a Blue Note jam session with Joshua Redman and Roy Hargrove on New York Stories in '92. Gatton kept both careers going at once; Cruisin' Deuces (1993) was a rockabilly outing, while his duet album with Philadelphia organist Joey DeFrancesco, "Relentless," is a straightahead jazz project. One pursuit reinforces the other; Gatton's jazz playing brings a harmonic sophistication to his rockabilly work, and his country experience gives his jazz solos a dramatic flair. --Geoffrey HimesCustomer Reviews:
Psychobilly Rocker Meets Jazz Organ Monster.......2007-02-23
It is clear from listening to this that while Gatton had amazing chops, he really wasn't a jazz player. That didn't stop him from having a whale of a time with Joey D, however. You could make an argument that this is one of the best examples of Gatton's playing, if only because DeFrancesco was such a worthy running-mate. Listen to them laughing on "Blues On The Half Shell"--they're having a great time. And if the idea of rockabilly rubbing up against jazz sounds appealing, you'll have a great time, too.
Realizations.......2006-11-02
DeFrancesco is so articulate... heads and shoulders above the crowd. Gatton was an icon, to a degree, but when set side by side with a great all around groove doctor... the Gatton image doesn't shine as brightly, but exudes raw energy at a very high level. I personnally think it is raw energy... but a bit unpolished.
Now... I've seen Gatton many times. I'm from DC and a musician to boot. And I love Danny's style and miss him... and understand that when he came back from California after a brief period of session work... he too, recognized his technical limits.... that said; Gatton displays a straight up, off the cuff feel for the groove... Gatton was good, very good, but there were A LOT of musicians who also were and are more polished. This release demonstrates that Danny Gatton had limits. A quick listen to a lot of Gatton material will also reveal a repetitivness that cursory examinations might miss. I'm not faulting him... but laid open with DeFrancesco... those types of limitations are evident.
For a Joey DeFrancesco release... it's great. Joey is the B3 King and proves it! With Danny it still rocks and grooves and works. I still own it and enjoy the release very much.
Just pure energy, style and licks to spare!.......2006-07-05
One reviewer likes Hank Garland...sure, but that is comparing apples to oranges..for a start, there is NO-ONE like Joey DeFrancesco around...and the sound that these two guys produce is totally unique....it's a pity Danny is no longer with us, another one of these collaborations would have surely been a milestone, if this isn't already.

Best since the first one.......2005-05-30
Dropping most of the introspection and world-weariness that brought Cut the Crap down, Relentless returns to form with attitude, rowdiness and Southern-redneck pride galore.
"You want it heavy? / Well G-- damn / I weigh a ton," screams Jesse James Dupree in the first seconds of the record, and the "relentless" assault of loud guitars and top-of-the-lungs-but-perfectly-in-tune vocals rarely lets up through the 40-minute disc.
Some highlights are "Kill the Sunshine," written in part by Brian Johnson of AC/DC, and the blues ballad "Lend Me a Hand." The latter is one of the quieter moments on the album despite its intense chorus.
There are, however, things that could have been done better. Sometimes the rhythm guitars sound like they're being played through a telephone, and a few tracks could have been left off.
"Heaven Don't Want Me (And Hell's Afraid I'll Take Over)" is listenable but doesn't live up to the standards set by the rest of the album.
The only thoroughly worthless track is "Billy Badass," apparently included just to keep with tradition: every Jackyl record has to have a chainsaw played as a musical instrument on one track.
It does have the hilarious Al Gore diss "I was the first to stand up against the PMRC," though, and it grows on you over time.
Overall, Relentless is a remarkable album, rescuing the band from a steady musical decline. The self-titled record is still the best of the catalog, but Relentless ranks a solid second.

Take My Word For It: It Rocks!.......2003-07-20
While others may call this album Jackyl being their 80's self, which is a laugh because the band was formed in 1990 and only released their first album in 1992 so fundamentally they're wrong from the start, I call it a breath of fresh air in an otherwise drowning era of metal. The songs are proud to be rockers and proud to be energetic. You know, when it is obvious that the musicians are actually enjoying what they are playing as much as the fans are listening to it? Rarely found in today's "look at your feet and feel sorry for yourself" music but Jackyl is loud and proud baby!
Kill the Sunshine is a solid rocker with assisted lyrics from AC/DC front man Brian Johnson. Speaking of AC/DC, did anybody else stop dead in their tracks when Mr. Evil came on? If Bon Scott was ever reincarnated, he came back to sing Mr. Evil for Jackyl! I also love the attitude in I'm On Fire and The More You Hate It (It Makes Me Want It More.) But, I admit that there are a few things that I am not completely thrilled by. "Billy Badass" is a far too modern sounding tune that pushes the button of rap metal a touch too hard. I don't listen to nor respect rap metal and if that is what this album was about, I wouldn't have purchased it. I also could have used a touch more chainsaw! But, one sour grape out of a dozen does not ruin an album. It still rocks!
This is not an album that a Staind fan would enjoy. But, I wonder if people that listen to that style of rock are even in search for enjoyment. I like fun. I like high energy entertainment and that is what this album is. If that's old fashioned or "played out," guilty as charged. But, I love it and always will.
