As the first album to feature Mel Brooks's 2000 Year Old Man character (with the indispensable Carl Reiner playing straight man), 2000 Years With... is a vital introduction to the long-running act that made Brooks a star. That's putting a lot of weight on a collection that, at about 37 minutes total, devotes just 13 minutes devoted to the title character. Still, it's an auspicious start: in that short time, Brooks delights and the duo sets the tone for an enduring, classic character. The rest of the collection runs along the same lines as the title sketch, with Reiner interviewing Brooks as a variety of characters, including Fabiola (a young singing sensation), an "astronaut," a not-so-native Peruvian, a psychiatrist, and four denizens of a coffeehouse. 2000 AND ONE YEARS WITH CARL REINER AND MEL BROOKS is the follow up album to the duo's classic comedy smash, 2000 YEAR OLD MAN. The original was a piece of comic genius and was one of the key albums that took comedy to a different level. The main gag on 2000 AND ONE YEARS is a continuation from the first album. The 2000 Year Old Man is a year older and just a tad bit wiser as well as somewhat cynical; a lot can happen in a year, even to a 2000 year old man. Whereas the first album seemed fresh and inspired, Reiner and Brooks have their routine down pat and things seem a little stale. It's not really the material, but the actors don't seem as excited as they did on THE 2000 YEAR OLD MAN. That's not to say there's not some great stuff here. "Two Hour Old Baby" takes the oppositte approach to the 2000 Year Old Man--instead of listening to the oldest person in the world, we are invited to converse with one of the world's youngest. Then there's the "New Technique Psychiatric Society"--this is a killer sketch with some hilarious moments that are even more comical in the ever so politically correct culture and society in which we find ourselves. Just watch them eyes.

Comedy Classic Gem........2004-05-07

It's hard to believe, but Mel Brooks' career starting taking off when he teamed up with Carl Reiner to do comedy albums. Long before YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN or THE PRODUCERS or BLAZING SADDLES, Brooks was a kind of stand-up comic who worked best doing ad-lib with a partner and Reiner was the perfect partner. I first heard about this album from my Dad and he told me it was a great piece of comedy. Though some of the material on the album might not seem as fresh to young audiences today, it's still classic comedy. The perfect timing between Brooks and Reiner is unbelivable. Reiner had the hardest job, having to keep playing the straight man to whatever Brooks threw out, but he never lost his beat. Younger audiences might not be able to fully appreciate the genius of the classical comedy album, but for those who have an appreciation for true comedy and haven't been warped by the "era of irony", 2000 YEARS WITH CARL REINER AND MEL BROOKS is worth listening to.

Mel Brooks stick to satire.......2001-09-30

This was not at all what I thought it was. I thought "Hey Mel Brooks, I could use a good laugh." But it wasn't that funny. The lesbian line being the exception. If you're looking for classic Mel Brooks then go see History of the World Part 1

Not as great as I expected.......2000-02-01

The album is only 37 minutes, which is the first disappointing thing about it, but not the only. Unfortunately, a lot of the humor seems timely, as in: it wasn't funny to me because this isn't the sixties. I think a lot of the references and humor are based around issues of that time or characters of that time. Our concepts of folk singers, of artists, of actors have all changed--perhaps not terribly much, but the cultural landmarks have shifted since this album. The 2000-year-old man is pretty good, but not even that was as hilarious as I had been led to believe. I'm going to give the album to my dad, as he knows the times (and the material) first-hand and I'm sure would appreciate it much more than I.

One of the funniest comedy albums that ever came from the 60's. The ad-libbing by Brooks is so sharp and witty that you'll laugh each time you hear them, no matter how many times you listen to this disc. Reiner is the perfect straitman for this type of comedy,trying to be professional in the midst of Brooks' madness.

Old Meets New!?.......2006-02-01

When I was younger and sat in church every Sunday I truly enjoyed the peace and calm Gregorian Chants offered me. Fast forward several dozen years and I discovered that same kind of peace and contentment in New Age Music. Paul Avgerinos merges these two formats in Phos Hilaron to create a nicely blended sound that is heavy on the New Age side. It is like a Bloody Mary that takes ones's beloved vodka and mixes it with just the right amount of tasty tomato juice to create a whole new sensation. Phos Hilaron may not be the best of both worlds but it is a pretty satisfying musical Bloody Mary anyhow.

I've followed Paul's music for many, many years now and each release shows his growth as a person and a musician. PHOS HILARON is AWESOME! It's a cross between Gregorian and New Age and is wonderful to use in almost any setting. I use it while reading or just as background music for my day. Album Description

Inferno is a concept album of a journey into the Hell here on earth, what gets people there, how it is to be there, and some thoughts on a way out. The songs are in various styles and are loosely based on the circles of hell defined by Dante's original work, and some of the sources upon which that was based. There's some R+B, a bit of hip-hop, some Latin, acoustic songs, reggae, world music, and a very authentic take on Andalusian (Arabian Spanish) music from the year 1000 or so, you name it...

A sizzling hot must have! Mr. Panfile has written and produced one of the best additions to enter my collection in a long time.Was completely unfamiliar with the artist's genre and was totally sold from the opening 'I Can't Stand'; a brilliant campy commentary on manhood, which explains the need for seats! Jump into the Inferno with this very talented group of players... Talk and Roll. This is one fire whose flames don't and won't die.
