If your a Nat King Cole fan, and a Spanish Language music fan..you will love this...there is a certain charm in the way he pronounces the spanish, but NAT COMES THROUGH....I wish he had done more in this genra...some of this Mexican music is the very best...

Not so much accent as intonation - still lovely music.......2006-07-19

A clarification, for those who think: 'I can't ABIDE bad accents!' What people are commenting on in these reviews may be described better as a less subtle or legato phrasing than his English style, tending to over-separate words and overemphasize consonants. In listening to these songs, I don't hear any words that are 'mispronounced' by most people's standards; there simply is an overall impression of a vaguely 'foreign' sound.

It does mar the performance slightly for those of us who treasure Nat King Cole for his smooth and seemingly effortless delivery. But don't let anyone's comments turn you away without listening to the samples for yourself. You may find yourself carried away after all.

I remember as a kid living in Colombia when this album came out. Some of the songs were current at the time and several others were old Latin American classics. Nevertheless, what made this album so great was Nat "King" Cole's terrific voice and his phonetic Spanish with a very heavy American English accent, which made it that much appealing. Every song was beautifully rendered. Great memories from a bygone era!

In the late 50's, Nat King Cole released two LP's, where he sings in perfect Spanish (With a slight accent of course), something that amazed all his fans world-wide. The songs contained in this CD, are the most popular ones and originate mostly from Mexico. Tracks like 'Las Mananitas' and 'Maria Elena' are considered as part of Mexico's folkloric history, having been written in the early 20th Century. To stun his fans even further, he also released another LP, where he sings in perfect French. For those who are bi-lingual, this CD is a must for their collection. The songs are beautiful, and the way Nat sings, will make any ladies toes curl upwards.

How do you begin to describe Javier Solis and his voice. Many have described it as velvety, masculine, powerful, and rightly so. In my opinion one of the best voices that Mexico has produced, close to or as good as Pedro Infante. This is how Boleros are supposed to be sung. To any doubters, I encourage you to try his voice, im positive you wont be dissatisfied. I know, it sounds like im trying to sell the cd, but I can't say enough of this mans incredible talent for singing. After you come to appreciate Javier Solis, try Pedro Infante, another great of mexican folklore music.

Perales is a new discovery for me. I had no idea he existed, but I am totally in love with his music. It is beautiful poetry and he executes it so well... Even my non-English speaking friends comment on the romantic nature of his lyrics.

Cafrune's Voice is Still With Us........2007-06-09

Whenever you think about Argentinean music, you think about Tango. Tango actually is Buenos Airs City's music.
But there exist a rich universe of Argentinean folkloric music as representative as Tango and very different from it.
Here you have a collection of songs that express a variety of rhythms & moods: the soul of the "gaucho" (the cowboy of the "Pampas", the Flatlands from Argentina); the temper of the "Collas" (Incas' descent that populate the North West Argentinean Provinces and Bolivia and Peru) more nostalgic than the first.

Jorge Cafrune (1937-1978) was a great folk singer. He was a true "gaucho" even if his ancestors came to Argentina from Syria and Lebanon. This community blended seamlessly with the Spaniards and Collas descents in Argentinean North West as Jewish descent did in Entre Rios Province giving rise to the "gauchos judios".
Cafrune's voice was unique and high pitched coloring the songs he sang with a personal mark.
Cafrune died when he was performing a "musical raid" on horseback; he was crashed by a Land Rover in a very suspicious "accident".

The compositions contained in this CD emerge from different Argentinean Provinces, charged with their peculiar rhythms and sounds and delivered to the audience by Jorge's outstanding voice and his acoustic guitar.

"Balderrama" whose text is authored by Manuel J. Castilla and music composed by Cuchi Leguizamon, two well known folklorists, describes what happens in Salta's most famous "peña", a sort of pub where customers and artists mix freely, sing and drink from sunset till dawn.

"Zamba de mi Esperanza" (My Hopes Zamba) talks of hopes of love and tender dreams and asks "the protecting star" to look after them.

"India Madre" (Native Mother) whose text is authored by Cesar Perdiguero and music composed by Eduardo Falu a renowned guitarist and composer, is a hymn to ancestral Mother whose blood and sentiments are still alive in her descents.

"La Cautiva" (The Captive Woman) is the love story of Indian Chief Alborevi and a beautiful Christian captive woman.

This is a CD to be treasured by anyone in love with folk music of distant lands and soloist admirers.

In the years since Selena's death, label officials have released numerous hit compilations. Many of the big hits are here, from "Como la Flor" and "Mentiras" to early material such as "Que Creias" and "No Quiero Saber." The CD also includes the Juan Gabriel-penned classic "Costumbres," and here a young Selena does her best to interpret this torchy ranchera. Also cool are her hip cumbias "La Carcacha" and "Baila Esta Cumbia," where the young singer took a page from the tropical-cumbiero master Fito Olivares. Out of Print But Selena's BEST Hunt down a Used Copy.......2005-12-17

So You are looking for a Selena Compilation to purchase?...Yes, there are many of them, too many, and a Guy can get confused, especially if He "discovered" Selena through Jennifer Lopez in the Movie, or Heard "Dreaming of You" and "I could fall in Love" after Her Murder in 1995...I have owned several "Best of's" Myself, but this One is Far and away the best of them all! After hearing the Songs here, You will realize that the above 2 mentioned Tunes are simply Ok, but Selena's Magic lies in Tejano, including the first 5 Songs on this Disc, "La Tracalera", "Carcacha", and many more...Don't bother with the other Compilations, they are Fine, but this is a Screaming BUY!

I admit I speak no Spanish, I only know a few words in Spanish though. Even though I do not understand what Selena is singing in this album I still love it! Como La Flor is my favorite song! It feels weird listening to Selena when she's not here but she's here in a way. I still love Selena! I loved her since the Selena movie came out! Anyways, I recommend you buy this C.D. today! You'll cherrish it always!

I love Selena's music; all of it! She had so much talent and was such a special person, as well. She could sing any style of music and do it so well. I have all her CD's as well as her videos, and most of her pictures. But, then again, so do millions of persons. Her music was sung from the heart and you can tell that she totally loved and enjoyed performing. Her songs kind of hit soft spots in all of us. We have lost a great young lady with such exceptional talent.

after hearing all the Anglicized versions of a lot of these songs. It is also a shock for those not used to real Tejano, as most of the songs on this CD are...someone once described Tejano as "polka with Spanish lyrics," and they weren't far off the mark. This CD goes along nicely with Todos Mis Exitos and Todos Mis Exitos II as Selena primers, for those who have never heard any Selena at all. The songs I love on this CD are "Costumbres," "No Quiero Saber," "Yo Fui Aquella" (which is a real shocker if you've only heard the version on Anthology, as I had before buying this CD--you will not expect this!), "Besitos," "Mentiras," "Tú Eres," and a sweet Spanish version of "Sukiyaki." If you like Selena and want to know what music she did before "Dreaming Of You," BUY THIS CD!! I love it :)

One of Selena's best recordings from the beginning of 'Como la flor' to the end of 'La tracalera' you are truly in music heaven. My favourites are 'Mentiras', 'Costumbres', Yo fui aquella', 'No quiero saber' and 'Yo me voy'. If you don't already have it, Buy this now! That's all i have to say. BYE!
