Sparx magic.......2007-07-27

I had the pleasure of being a guest at a small show in New Mexico back in 1992, when the girls had just started out. What I can tell you is that their harmonies are not a product of studio magic or overproducing. They really sound this perfect in person, and they were all just pre-teens and teenagers at the time. Sparx is the ultimate sister act, and a hometown favorite here in New Mexico. Veronica, Rosamaria, Kristyna, and Carolina began singing together at a very early age. Nowadays they appear in live concerts all over the world alongside their brother (as a seperate billed act in his own right) Lorenzo Antonio.

The Sparxx are from ABQ, NM and that's where I'm from. Sparxx were ALWAYS on the radio and everyone loved them.

Anyway, what stands out the most about this group is their ability to harmonize. Wether you speak spanish or not, doesn't even matter, they are THAT GOOD. If you LOVE females that can harmonize together you will love Sparxx. They are amazing, no studio tricks. This is real, raw talent!

If you know anything about "Tejano", "Norteno", maricachi, and yes they even did corridos, you will already know about Sparxx and don't even need to read the reviews because you already know how much they rule.

I agree with the reviewer who said that the song "La Rana" alone is worth the price of the CD. I can't say enough about their harmony. It is angelic!

Sparxx did a bunch of albums, different styles. This album has some of their more well-known hits and it is an easy, likeable place to start if you have never heard Sparxx before. The perfect "starter" album

Correction.......2002-08-31

I would like to correct a small spelling error in my previous review of this fine CD. Please correct my writing of "Quando" to its proper spelling Cuando in the songs Cuando No Estas Aqui and Cuando Bailamos. I still tend to spell Spanish as it sounds to me which leads to some unique forms. But no matter how badly I spell them they still sound GREAT.

I first encountered Sparx at a single professionals dance. The female Disc Jockey played one of their tunes and it was love at first sound. Perhaps it was the atmosphere, the drink, my sweetheart or my imagination but their sound was simply unforgetable, even haunting. I made numerous enquiries about this group and finally obtained one of their CD's entitled Tiene Que Ser Amor. Their combined effect remains the same even without the dance floor, drink and sweetheart-these girls are angels and have extraordinary harmony. One correction is required to the list of songs which is incorrect on the CD... 1) El de los Ojos Negros; 2) Quando No Estas Aqui; 3) Limon Entero; 4) No Pasara Lo Mismo; 5) Amame; 6) La Rana; 7) Esta Noche; 8) Quando Bailamos; 9) Besame/Tiene Que Ser Amor; 10) Tuya Quiero Ser is the correct order. Quando No estas Aqui, No Pasara lo Mismo, Amame, Esta Noche and Besame/Tiene Que Ser Amor are extremely good tunes that define the sound that is Sparx. It is wonderfully ironic that these four sisters are Americans whose Spanish songs are simply extraordinary. They prove the rule that great music is a truly international idiom that has no borders, gender or race. If you like the latin music sound even a little you will not be disappointed by buying this CD.

Tiene Que Ser Amor.......2001-07-03

An extremely talented quartet of FRESH voices which appeals even to old timers like me (66). Sparx presents a superb mixture of superb voices, great lyrics, and outstanding instrumental accompaniment. Their rendition of "La Rana" alone is worth the TWICE the price of the CD.

Clasicos de las Americas has Good Gottschalk.......2004-02-23

This six CD set has the Central and South American greats, but I prefer the North American who did some of his best composition South of the border. Louis-Moreau Gottschalk had the life of a modern day Rock Star. He is joined in this set by such prominent players as Heitor Villa-Lobos, George Gershwin, Augustin Barrios, and Carlos Guastavino. George Rabol is a favorite pianist.
