Finger Eleven's career shifted suddenly and significantly when their 2003 emo-hit "One Thing" turned the band's career on its axis. At that point, they went from being known as 'the boys from Burlington who used to call themselves the Rainbow Butt Monkeys' to a group whose anthemic slow rock song went Platinum in Canada and Gold in America. So how does a band respond after its widespread fame is the result of just one song? In the case of Them Vs. You Vs. Me, Finger Eleven have consciously stayed away from anything remotely resembling their past and put the focus on the straight-ahead alt-rock formula that they've consistently excelled at. There are certain old-school rock influences that bleed clearly through their music, from Rush-isms in the form of frenetic time changes ("Sense of a Spark") to "Talking to the Walls" and "Lost My Way" which evoke Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. Frontman Scott Anderson's voice is impressive throughout, but when he sings ballads, especially "Window Song" and "Easy Life," something enables him to appeal to a whole different audience than traditional alt-rock fans. There is no 'one thing' on this disc that will allow them to reach the heights of their self-titled CD, just a consistency that will provide longtime fans reason to appreciate the band even more. --Denise SheppardCustomer Reviews:

Ironically, Amazon has paired this with Chevelle's latest, and those two CD's are currently my top two.

What a great new concept album!.......2007-07-08
I listened again today driving from Philly to DC and really paid attention. Aside from the myriad classic rock influences that can be heard and the solid musicianship, this disc is quite the concept album. Best one I've heard in a long time and I'm very, very rarely impressed by new musical offerings. I understand that this may not be the same sound as their previous offerings but I really don't care. This is good music.
5 stars!
No more paralyzers?.......2007-07-08
It's Awesome.......2007-06-02
I find Soctt Andersons vocals consistent throughout the entire album. Yes it is more alternative rock but don't be put off by being classified as a label when it comes to what you listen to. This is a very enjoyable cd.
The tracks, Paraylzed, Falling On, and Taking To The Walls are outstanding in terms of more of the rocking type tracks.
However, this is only a treat before we get some real amazing vocals on some of the more acoustic type tracks.
Real bonus to the CD are the following:
* I'll Keep Your Memory Vague. 5/5
"This won't break your heart, But I just think it could, coz I haven't tried as hard as I should..to..to seperate you from everything I do...but I would never wanna come between us 2" - This entire line is the best vocal I've heard this year for an intro.
* Window Song 5/5
"All The Windows are playing their game...we won't see outisde again...til I ride all the fog away...I'm putting words in their place...but all of the fog is erased & I write all the words I never said"
* Talking To The Walls
-Excellent Intro & again great lyrics. i.e. "Look at the shape I'm in, talking to the walls again'
They have staying power, for the people that have mocked this album, it's been unfair, bands need to evolve.
I would definitely like to extend my gratitude of thanks to Finger Eleven, they put out an album I can really relate to.
Come tour in Auckland, NZ some time.

Buckcherry reestablish their status as one of the most raucous and delightfully dirty-minded acts in the industry today with 15, a truly bombastic rock & roll blast. Vocalist Josh Todd leads this high-energy act into battle with the colossal one-two-three punch of "So Far," "Next 2 You," and "Out Of Line," each anchored by the weighty rhythm section of drummer Xavier Muriel and bassist Jimmy Ashhurst, then elevated by the Olympian guitar attack of Keith Nelson and Stevie D. But while an appropriate levity prevails on those tracks and others--such as "Crazy Bitch," "Broken Glass," and the good time stomp "Brooklyn"--the band also find time to show a more sensitive and mature side with the hit-worthy and country-inflected "Carousel," plus the unapologetically melancholy "Sorry." If there's a fault to be found on 15 it doesn't reveal itself easily, and if there's a fault to be found with Buckcherry it is perhaps that they imbue listeners with a zest for living. But that clearly is no crime. --Jedd BeaudoinAlbum Description
The band who broke onto the national scene in 1999 returns. "I am playing the hell out of it. It combines all the best elements of Aerosmith and Guns N Roses in their prime" - Eddie Trunk (Q104 NYC syndicated radio host and VH1 Classic on-air personality). "Coming on like the Black Crowes by way of AC/DC, this LA-based band is at its best blasting its way through hard-hitting riff rockers" - Entertainment Weekly.Customer Reviews:

With front man Daniel Johns at the helm, Silverchair refuses to do the same thing twice. When the Australian trio released their first album, Frogstomp, in 1995, they were merely 15 years old. Each new album since has been a dramatic departure from the last, and the band eventually shed their sticky grunge image with 2002's Diorama. A returning cast of producer Nick Launay (INXS, Talking Heads), mixer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse), and legendary composer Van Dyke Parks (U2, Beach Boys) coddled Young Modern--yet another completely different version of Silverchair. The lyrics are pensive, the melodies cathartic, and the music is distinctly refined. Having already proven his epic vocal ability, Johns appeals to more creativity and experimentation this time around. He retains his singing style, but at times he is reminiscent of AC/DC's Brian Johnson, at others of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson. Listeners will be shocked to learn that the upbeat opening track, "Young Modern Station," is the heaviest rock song on the record. "Straight Lines" is a celebratory pop fête, and "If You Keep Losing Sleep" makes Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" sound almost docile. Van Dyke Parks's renowned talent shines on the tracks with orchestral arrangements like "All Across the World" and the three-part epic "Those Thieving Birds." The entire album is seamless and offers new facets with each listen. Once again, Silverchair has clearly taken another giant step forward. --Jordan ThompsonAlbum Description
Silverchair are Australia's most successful rock band with five #1 albums and global sales of over 6 million CDs. Since exploding onto the alternative rock scene as teens in the mid-90s, Silverchair have grown up into a much more eclectic and melodic band. They've built a large and passionate fan base and have garnered high regard among critics and peers that once seemed unlikely. "Young Modern" is the fastest selling album of the band's career in their homeland - propelled by the #1 hit single "Straight Lines". It also features orchestral arrangements by legendary Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks. Look for Silverchair on a North American summer tour that includes a Lollapalooza appearance alongside acclaimed artists Arcade Fire and Bright Eyes.Customer Reviews:
loving the new sound of Silverchair.......2007-08-02
People who dislike this album seem to be waxing nostalgic for the Frogstomp era. But I would find it odd if Silverchair, and more notably front man Daniel Johns, were still writing songs that sound exactly like those made on Frogstomp when they were 14, 15, or 16. Bands evolve otherwise it would get boring. Sometimes the evolution doesn't fit with what some die hard fans like.
For me, a fan since 1995, Young Modern has reignited my love for Silverchair. If you're open to hearing something new and different from the guys then give Young Modern a chance. After a few listens you'll be pleasantly surprised with the catchy songs that grow on you more and more until you can't get them out of your head. And maybe you should, to quote an old 'chair song, "learn to evolve."
Bloody Brilliance.......2007-08-02
It's nice to see some creativity in modern mainstream music........2007-07-28
The band grew up and went a different direction.......2007-07-26
There's really no trace of that here. The band might have evolved skillfully, there are some pleasant, harmonic tunes that showcase a somewhat advanced, mature side of the group. There's plenty of keyboards and orchestra mixed in that some fans might enjoy.
THAT'S NOT WHAT I WAS HOPING FOR THOUGH!
I desperately missed songs like Israel's Son(my favorite), Freak Show, Cemetary, Abuse Me, Ana's Song...AAAAARRRRGGGGH! I can't take it! Why did this band have to grow up? I'm sorry, but the more I listen to it the sicker I get.
Is this Sugar Ray?
Punk turned junk?
Did their girlfriends make them tone it down?
When in doubt, sell out?!?
WHY DID I BUY THIS CRAP?????!!!!???
Sorry, not my cup of tea....
Sleeper of the year..........2007-07-25

The idea of remaking the Rat Pack's infamous shaggy-dog story cum Vegas heist thriller may have seemed ludicrous without a Rat Pack. But that didn't deter ever-inventive director Steven Soderbergh, who's again wisely teamed with not only Out of Sight star George Clooney, but that underrated project's Irish-born club mixer turned scorer David Holmes, as well. The resulting soundtrack is a spunky, cross-cultural joyride that careens from Perry Como's "Papa Loves Mambo" to the loopy hip-hop of Handsome Boy Modeling School's "The Projects," while paying some gratifying visits to Percy Faith, Arthur Lyman, Quincy Jones, the terminally cool Claude Debussy, and, of course, King Elvis along the way. Holmes's own concoctions are as smartly retro-hip and seamless, slyly intertwining cool jazz-funk and smoky cine-Muzak with some dance-floor grooves that keep the musical tension boiling. The sharp dialogue snippets that bubble throughout seem a quirky throwback to soundtracks gone by, a sometimes oversized olive in Holmes's inviting musical cocktail. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

In the almost two and a half years it took to make their third album, Canadian rage rockers Finger Eleven have undergone a radical transition. Gone are the overwrought guitars, gratuitous venting, and nu-metal posturing that marked their early work. In their place are some tightly constructed melodies and emotionally articulate lyrics weaved into a coherent song cycle that documents the disintegration of a relationship. This isn't to say the one-time headbangers have gone soft because they're writing love songs and featuring gorgeous acoustic guitar work. There are some bonecrushers among the 11 songs here, but the sturdy rockers are less prosaic than the band's earlier efforts, and it's clear that they have paid more attention to song structure and dynamics, although Scott Anderson's staccato delivery can give you whiplash. --Jaan UhelszkiCustomer Reviews:

overall the album is decent. a lot of the harder songs on the album are too slow to get into (despite the very well-written lyrics of scott anderson), and the straight-ahead approach just doesn't seem to work for these guys. much like how the straight-ahead approach nearly killed the new nine inch nails record.
another example of even the best of rock music getting worse. it's an alright buy, but greyest of blue skies and tip are the better buys.
oh, and don't listen to the rainbow butt monkeys. just let that phase rot in it's grave where it belongs.

The pop song-score is often accused of being little more than ancillary merchandising for many a film and the supporting evidence is often hard to deny. But this well-chosen collection of modern rock and metal for director Jonathan Hensleigh's adaptation of the vengeance-obsessed Marvel Comics anti-hero is a gratifying exception; apt sonic seasoning for the film's bleak, contemporary edge. The thrash of Hatebreed, Chevelle, and the new Drowning Pool lineup and tracks by more established acts like Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback, and Queens of the Stone Age (who turn in a smart, chunky cover of Romeo Void's Rock-of-the-80's staple, "Never Say Never") alone would make it a welcome rock-metal sampler. But its 19 tracks also encompass an intriguing range of lesser known bands and one-off collaborations (Seether and Amy Lee, Jerry Cantrell and Damageplan, Ben Moody/Jason Miller/Jason "Gong" Jones); all bristling with a dark, moody energy that perfectly echos the film's dour, relentlessly violent tone. -- Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

The bands and the songs selected for the soundtrack are all so energizing and powerful. I could hardly believe that the collection was so good - not a weak song in the bunch. Give it a listen, and you'll be smiling and rockin' too!
measuring up (now 4 stars instead of 3...).......2005-08-26
Drowning Pool- Step Up: Now, if you've read my review of Desensitized, by Drowning Pool (the album this song came off of), you would have heard me mention that I love this song, but it just isn't really Drowning Pool due to the lack of Dave Williams in the song. I stand by that thought, although I do still really like this song.
Nickelback- Slow Motion: I'm pretty well impressed with this particular song, but not as much as I am with some of the other songs on this soundtrack. It's got its merits, though, mainly cause it's Nickelback...
Seether (feat. Amy Lee)- Broken: Damned if I can't label this the best damn song on here. With Seether and frontman Shaun Morgan's ex-girlfriend Amy Lee (of Evanescence fame) as the backing vocalist, this song is both hard-hitting and haunting at the same time. If you've heard this particular song, you know what I mean.
Smile Empty Soul- Finding Myself: I also call this one "Smile Empty Soul Goes Acoustic"- and amazingly enough, alternative rock band Smile Empty Soul's first all-acoustic song works like a charm and is one of my favorites.
Trapt- Lost in a Portrait: In my opinion, Lost in a Portrait isn't as good as some of Trapt's other songs, but it's still a good one and a good pick for the soundtrack; I believe this one was recorded specifically for the soundtrack, as I couldn't find this one on either Trapt or Someone in Control...
Seether- Sold Me: Seether's second contribution to the compilation; like Broken, this one comes from Seether's (semi)second CD, Disclaimer II, a reworking of their debut cut Disclaimer. This one is much more hard-edged than Broken, but not necessarily better... it is good though.
Edgewater- Eyes Wired Shut: Tied with Broken for the best song on here. I love how Edgewater so succintly draws you in with the first hook of the chorus- "Eyes wired shut, running through my brain..." Awesome song, guys.
Hatebreed- Bound to Violence: A bit more heavy metal-ish than I'm used to, but I got used to this and actually started to like it. Hatebreed (and more particularly, this song) is what got me listening to bands like Lamb of God and Chimaira, so thanks.
Mark Collie- In Time: By far the most haunting songs on the soundtrack and one of my favorites. Go Mark!!!
Most people would expect me to end this with some kind of witty saying to aid you in making your decision to further research this product- but I'm just too damn tired. So here it goes: The Punisher is frankly one of the best movie soundtracks out there, so go check it out- you won't be disappointed.
