Pasado - Sin Bandera.......2007-02-06
I have to say that this CD is total delight and of great performance by Sin Banderas. I love it!
WONDERFUL.......2007-01-07
Sin Bandera offered us a nice CD and I was surprised when I heard the songs "Será", "Un Buen Perdedor" and "Si Tú No Estás aquí" that I heard the original versions and These new ones are as good as those but Sin Bandera conserves its unique style.
Nice... I recommend it!
Back to the Past.......2006-11-15
Sin Bandera has become one of the most influential duo in Latin music with classics such as "Sirena," "Que Lloro," and "Suelta Mi Mano," just to name a few. Now they are paying respect to the classics that have influenced their great musical career by reinterpreting artists such as Ricardo Montaner, Franco de Vita, Luis Miguel, Miguel Bose and even Tom Jones. And to be honest, there are some hits and some near misses, but never trying to outshine the original. Their first single "Si tu no estas" from the Spanish singer Rosana, is one of those gems that enhances the original but does not make you forget it. Sin Bandera does such a sublime job that it is marked with their style, yet they pay tribute. My favorite of the whole bunch is their hopeful approach to Ricardo Montaner's "Sera." Stylistically, it is completely different from the original; however, the power still remains as Sin Bandera increases the tempo and reworks the background music. Most importantly the duo of Leonel and Noel have the vocal capability to match Ricardo Montaner's. It is just as great as the original. The one I was a little disappointed by is their rendition of Miguel Bose's "Si tu no vuelves." This one is definitely outdone by the original for Noel and Leonel cannot match Bose's crystal clear tenor-like voice. Moreover, Sin Bandera's modernization of the background music is a bit distracting. This one seems to be the least of Sin Bandera's style. In spite of this, it is still a great song to listen to but the original is clearly better. Overall I found the cd to be moving, as I come to expect from any Sin Bandera album. Sin Bandera certainly does an outstanding job at reimagining the past into the present.

Nice, but could have been better........2006-10-31
I LOVE Sin Bandera. What I love about them is the smooth, creamy way their two voices swirl through R&B harmonies with beautiful Spanish lyrics. However, this CD, Manana, let me down a little. The second thing I loved about Sin Bandera WAS the purity of their music. No profanity, no filth. No nasty, explicit songs I (as a Christian) feel the need to skip over on the CD. This CD has 2 such songs. WHY?! I know reggaeton is the most popular thing going right now, but Sin Bandera was doing fabulously with at least 2 hugely successful, clean albums. Why did you have to take your music into the gutter, guys? The rest of Manana is nice. I love the duet with Brian McKnight, and even the 2 versions of Junto a Ti (although they are sanitized reggaeton) are a nice change of pace. Sin Bandera if you are reading this, don't sell out your fan base trying to fit in with the "cool kids". Stick to what you do best, and you can have the best of both worlds.
beautiful music that permeates your heart and soul............2006-07-27
This album is one of the latest and greatest in my Latin music collection. Leonel Garcis and Noel Schajris have a gorgeous, lyrical quality to their harmonies, and their fusion of r&b, hip hop and Latin elements will have you hooked. Some of my favorite cuts on the album include "Que Me Alcance La Vida" (a stunning ballad!), "No Voy" (a more uptempo song with a beat reminscent of old school Michael Jackson), and "Junto a Ti" (a hip hop inspired beat with Puerto Rican rapper, Vico C).
This album is a great introduction to this marvelous musical duo. They have a romanticism that is very rare in today's music scene, and are definitely worthy of MUCH more exposure in the United States. I hope this album brings them a Grammy (and not just a Latin one!!!). I look forward to hearing much more from these guys in the future.
Decent effort.......2006-05-05
This to me was Sin Bandera at their best and at their worst. I recognize that this band has a heavy R&B influence. I like that. It's really nice and they have the voices to carry it. However, there were four songs on this CD, two with Yung Kuntry and the two versions of Junto a Ti that I did not like. There was too much hip/hop and rap mixed in with it. It kind of reminded me of when I first stopped liking everything Gwen Stefani did just because it was Gwen S.
I'm all for an artist experimenting-- that's what makes them artists. However, tastes do differ and I just don't have a taste for rap infused spanish pop. Other than those songs I mentioned, there's the duet with Laura Pausini that is amazing. Suelta mi Mano, Tocame and Que Me Alcance la Vida are vintage Sin Bandera.
Another Amazing Album..........2006-02-21
Ive been a Sin Bandera fan since day one, and they have delivered once again. If you like Sin Bandera because of their gorgeous heartfelt ballads, then this album is a winner. "Tocame" is one of the most beautiful songs Ive heard in a long time, and the others are not far behind. The duet with Brian McKnight was surprisingly good as well, not a bad crossover song. Im not so much a fan of the more edgy/hip hop songs that Sin Bandera tries on this album. Theryre ok, and not bad by any means, ( I actually dont mind "Lo Que Llamas Amor"), but they should stick to what they know best- writing beautifully harmonized and lyrically eloquent ballads. Overall, this album is amaaaazing, and I havent taken it off repeat since I bought it!
There is also a nice live version of "Sirena" (not available on this version of the album, but is available on iTunes) which i recommend downloading. If only I could see them live....
Hecka good CD.......2005-12-21
THis is the first Sin Bandera CD that I like all of the songs. In the "De Viaje" CD, there were like three or four songs that I really didn't like.

Love his style.......2002-06-01
My husband and I really enjoy this album. We play Welcome to Texas for all our Northern friends at our winter home. Can hardly wait to get his new album with "I've Been Everywhere" on it.
An Unusual CD from an Unusual Singer/Songwriter.......2001-09-30
Brian Burns is an unusual Texas singer songwriter--unusual in the respect that his CD's are almost as entertaining and thought-provoking as his live performances.
And Angels and Outlaws is an unusual CD. I've got a handful of CD's in my collection that I can honestly say haven't got a single bad cut on them. EVERY song on Angels and Outlaws is perfect. Perfectly written, perfectly produced, and perfectly interpreted by the man who wrote them.
The music on this CD runs the gamut from pure fun, to Texan philosophical contemplation, to a mixture of both, with a love song or two thrown into the mix.
Brian's an auteur. Buy his CD, and see him live if you can.
Angels and Outlaws.......2000-07-05
Excellent Texas Flavor Music. Great lyrics and music. This cd is a perfect follow-up to his first cd Highways, Heartaches and Honky Tonks. Great for kicking back and contemplating life its ownself.
Inspirational.......2000-04-19
Anyone who loves freedom and its expression in Texas and in the South will enjoy this remarkable album. It's not pop, it's for serious country music fans.

beautiful, catchy and totally romantic.............2006-07-27
For those of you who have never heard of Sin Bandera, this album is your opportunity to get a taste of their artistry and stirring musical sensitivity.
Who are Sin Bandera? They are Leonel Garcia, from Mexico, and Noel Schajris, from Argentina. For starters, their voices are absolutely a pleasure to listen to. They have a real talent for conveying the pleasure and pain of romance in through their lyrics, melodies and expression. What's more, they aren't sappy or repetitive. Although this music is deceptively laid back, don't overlook the attention to instrumentation, harmony and diversity in musical influences. Some of my favorite songs on this album are the ones that have gotten little airplay in the United States. Many people know this album for the hit "Que Llloro" (translation: How I Cry). Though, this song is beautiful and heartbreaking,I love when these guys tap into more Latin influences ("Ven" and "Te Esperare" as two examples, where you hear flamenco elements), as well as their more jazzy sensiblities ("Magia" and "Cancion Para Los Dias Lluviosos").
You will fall in love with this duo and their wonderful music and definitely won't be disappointed. Buy this album today......
Sin Bndera.......2005-09-07
Most of these songs are great. I like alot of the songs they made. Te song i like the most from this CD is "Que Lloro" and "De Viaje".
A work of art.......2005-06-14
Entiendo un poco de Espanol, pero hablo ingles. Este album es incredible. Sus voces son los mejores y las canciones son tan bueno.
The hits are clearly the best on this album, but there are enough of them and enough versions of these hits to make it a very strong effort. The harmonizing of these two is unmatched in any language. The pair can not only create ballads, but can create some nice soulful, catchy faster songs, too.
Yo se ahora porque es "Album Del Año - Lo Nuestro Premios".
You will not be disappointed. The CD comes with a video, too, which I haven't yet seen.
There are only two albums from la musica latina de 2004 that I would buy before this one: Paulatina- Paulina Rubio and Si-Julieta Venegas
I must have, even for gringos like me.
Reminiscient of Motown.......2005-05-20
The first time I listened to this CD I thought - "eh, it's just ok". The second time I said, "hm, this is really good", and it just kept getting better from there. Everytime I listen to it I feel like I discover a new favorite song and I enjoy the CD all the more.
Some of the tracks remind me of Boyz-2-Men in the ways they harmonize, but Sin Banderas definately has a sound all their own. I love their slower ballads - but suprisingly, my favorite tracks are the faster, more upbeat tracks like Magia (track 6). If you want to enjoy some good Spanish music that is remiscient of Motown - buy this CD.
This CD is my favorite.......2005-04-07
A friend gave me a burned CD with various artists. I kept listening to one song over and over and decided to buy the CD. I am in love with this CD. I listen to it from the beginning to the end.

Brian Burns is the Real Deal.......2000-11-17
In this era when what currently passes for country music is what we used to call, well, rock'n'roll, with nary a decent songwriter on the horizon, Brian Burns is the Real Deal. You can hear the influences of Lefty Frizzell, Willie Nelson and the other greats of a bygone era, but with a fresh sound and lyrics. If you love the honkytonk sound that seems to have vanished, stop crying in your beer and get this CD!

Customer Reviews:
Charlie can draw the hometown crowds!!!.......2006-04-24
I had no idea who Charlie Robison was until I had to go to the historic Cowboy Cabaret in my new hometown of Bandera, Texas to collect signatures on a petition. Charlie Robison, a local talent, was playing this historic Texas honkey tonk (which dates back, I believe, to the 1930s - and ALL the historic country music names have played here). Charlie essentially filled the house; people came form everywhere to listen to his big talent. I was busy getting signatures for Kinky Friedman's run for Texas governor while the full-house crowd filled the historic Cab for Charlie. When the backup band finished and Charlie and band started singing, it was as if I was back in Houston listening to the big names in country music who who had made it and played the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This guy has talent, and it's appreciated in his hometown. If you like country music Charlie has the talent -- and you also need to come someday to Bandera, Texas, the small Cowboy Capital of the World that draws world-class musicians to its honkey tonks and bars -- sometimes just for an impromtu jam session. Charlie is on the cusp of breaking in big in country music, judging from the crowds he draws.
Outsanding songwriting and a great singer!!.......2003-10-03
I was turned on to Charlie Robison by my nephew. He brought a copy of his second album Life of the Party and I immediately fell in love with it. I then got a copy of Bandera and I loved it even more.. This guy has to me what Steve Earle had in his early years, with Guitar Town and Exit 0.. This is an album about every day people getting caught up in the act of trying to live in this old world. Charlie Robison is an outstanding songwriter and a great singer as well.. If you like real country music with a twist and some soul get this album.. I listen to it all the time and I have been for over a year now.. I rank it right up there with Guitar Town.. It is well worth the bucks..
Before Life of the Party.......2003-03-28
What a great taste of music before major labels get thier paws on it. Don't sell out yet Charlie.
Great modern honkytonk album.......2002-11-23
This is probably Charlie Robison's best album to date... a great set of tuneful, tounge-in-cheek, wiseass honkytonk songs, chock full of great melodies and amiably snide humor. Thematically and vocally, this early, long-haired incarnation of Charlie Robison sounds a bit like what John Prine might have been like if he'd followed his hard country inclinations a bit further, rather than going the folkie route. At any rate, Robison has definitely got the goods, and this disc has one good song after another... Well worth tracking down a copy!
I keep playing this one.......2002-10-23
I happened to hear Charlie Robison on "Austin City Limits" one night, and promptly ordered all his CDs. It's true that "Bandera" is less polished than his later two CDs, which are also great. However, *this* is the one I keep popping in the CD player. "Desperate Times" is quite a song, "Red Letter Day" really sticks in my head .... In fact, there's not a bad track on it.
If you like folks like Townes Van Zandt, Billy Joe Shaver, Guy Clark, Waylon Jennnings, Lucinda Williams, etc. you oughta like this one.

Founded by Mexico's Leonel García and Argentina's Noel Shajris, Sin Bandera is a vocal duet that performs polished, extremely melodic pop songs celebrating the vicissitudes of love. The lyrics are in Spanish, but the group's sound is informed by the kind of glossy production values and palatable keyboard lines that define most mainstream American productions. That's not to say that Sin Bandera is totally devoid of the Latin tinge, however. The rhythmic structure of the opening "Para Alcanzarte," for instance, is enhanced by a percolating salsa line from pianist Hector Infanzon, and the sinuous, delicate ballad "A Primera Vista" includes the instrumental contribution of Joselo Rangel, lead guitarist of premier rock-en-español band Café Tacuba. Even though the duet's openly commercial aspirations are apparent throughout the album's 10 tracks, there's also a bohemian atmosphere that permeates the procedures, as if Sin Bandera had recorded these tunes in a solitary café, late at night, drunk with the power of their own poetry. Lovers of quality--and slightly melodramatic--Latin pop will think of Sin Bandera as an indispensable arrival to the genre. --Ernesto Lechner
Customer Reviews:
the debut album of one of the best Latin pop duos today...........2006-10-29
I had to make this album a part of my CD collection, since I already have "De Viaje" and "Manana," Sin Bandera's 2nd and 3rd albums. Their self-titled debut definitely showcases them well, and this was only the beginning! The best way to describe their sound is "fusion." They combine pop riffs, salsa beats, flamenco and even ranchera music with their own unique flavor and beautiful harmonies. Some of the strongest songs here are "Entra Mi Vida" (featured in pop, ranchera and grupero style on the CD). It is gorgeous and melodious. I also especially reccomend "Sirena" (Mermaid), which is pure poetry set to music. The rest of the tracks equally carry their weight on this album, and it is ideal for a romantic evening with someone special. Even if you don't speak Spanish, this music will speak to your heart.....
Wonderful!.......2006-06-12
This is a great CD! It's some of the best work these two have put out. The still do many of this album's songs on tour. I highly recommend catching them if ya can!
Saving music.......2005-04-01
While American music was stagnating and wholly uninspired in the last few years I was wondering if and when it would get it's act together. Mindless pop tunes with no soul autotuned to sterile perfection blared on every radio channel I knew that there had to be a glimmer of light somewhere to save music. I endured a few more years of this and finally it took me moving to San Diego California in 2002 to know that while American music had lost its passion the rest of the world however had not. Driving in my U-haul over the mountains east of San Diego the US channels faded to static and the Mexican stations took over. Soon I hear a sublime impassioned voice whispering passionately in Spanish. Though I do not understand Spanish the heartfelt emotions pouring from the singer backed by a wistful guitar, the message was clear. The music fanned the dieing embers of my heart and washed over me in a glorious candlelight. The Song I was as I have just recently found out was Sin Bandera's Te Vi Venir, easily the best piece of music I've heard anywhere, anyplace in the world in many years. My heart was inspired and the Romantic in me rekindled. I knew that hope had returned to music.
I don't even speak Spanish.......2004-11-23
I went to boarding school for senior year and my roommate was Mexican and played this album incessantly and I was addicted so I bought it also. I'm an international student from Africa and when I went home, all my friends were so addicted, we requested Entra en Mi Vida on radio so many times that they had to go find it. It's such a great album. My favourite's are Sirena and Te Vi Venir
Great album.......2004-08-25
Their soothing voices and beautiful lyrics are a beautiful blend. The cd is very romantic and the pop tracks are lightening and uplifting. Im a true fan of Sin Bandera and they are a talented duo.

Piffaro discs make this sedentary fool want to get up and dance. Renaissance dance music is a much-underrated source of general delight, anyway. You don't have to be the kind of specialist listener who loves medieval masses to get a kick out of this tasty, highly rhythmic music--the disco of an earlier era. The tunes are appealing, the sounds of the varied instruments consistently delightful. I rate discs of Renaissance dances not so much by their authenticity, a debatable matter anyway, but rather by their danceability. Piffaro discs rank consistently high in this respect, and they are realistically recorded. --Leslie Gerber

Triumphant!.......2006-12-01
This is truly one of the best albums of Renaissance music currntly available! Purely instrumental! Much of it appears to be music for a royal court event or the like, with much use of brass and wind instruments. There are also many selections for the festival setting, usually involving the bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy. Too many albums of ancient music "pad" the content with monotonous choral polyphonic selections, perhaps starting out with one or two really good instrumental pieces. However, they did not do that in this one!
Excellent Renaissance Faire. Buy it!.......2005-11-15
'Piffaro The Renaissance Band' is a Philadelphia group who has done several superior albums of Renaissance music for the label 'Archiv', late of Deutche Grammaphone, now part of Polygram. I was astonished when I heard from a student of one of the directors, Robert Wiemken, that the band is paid virtually nothing to make the record and have it distributed. While I would expect that from a minor label, it is surprising that an act should make it to Deutche Grammaphone and not be paid for their recording. I go into this minor digression because I am especially impressed by this recording and all their others as well.
I do take issue with it's being labelled a recording of 'wind' music, as there is ample representation from the family of string instruments, most famously the guitar and the hurdy gurdy.
Although I really enjoy 'old music', I'm not an expert on it, but I set out to distinguish this music from modern stuff, and the two I can find are the presence here of a lot of drone instruments such as the bagpipe and the hurdy gurdy and the absence of instruments such as the clarinet which give us that lushly woody tenor we hear in pieces such as 'Rapsody in Blue' or in some of Kurt Weill's German stage pieces. We also certainly miss the rich sounds of the piano, as the pianoforte has not been invented yet.
If you like old music, this band is a 'must hear'!
Definitely Worth the Listening.......2004-01-26
Simply lovely. Some whimsical, some more technically serious. In all, definitely worth the money and the time. One of my new favorites.
Superb musicianship on ancient instruments...........2001-10-03
I wish composers were still writing for hurdy-gurdy @ crumhorn...what a wonderful sound. I especially liked "La Parma". I do believe a modern tunesmith has taken that melody @ recently made a rather haunting popular song from it; a female vocalist, I think. If anyone out there can remember what the name of that modern tune is @ will post it here, it will save me some on-going mental annoyance. You won't go wrong in buying this album!
Piffaro Renaissance Band Superb.......2001-05-20
This CD has me dancing in the streets. I have played holes in the recording. The musicianship is extraordinary with excitement, love and a great warm sense of pleasure taken by everyone involved. Renaissance instruments are not generally known for subtlety or nuance, but these players work miracles. The percussion sections are also integral to the whole and thrilling, where appropriate. Piffaro, please keep your music coming.

Masterpiece.......2007-04-23
O.K here it goes.. Chamaco Ramirez is like on FIRE!! on this whole CD. Like he was in the Zone through all of these tracks. This is probably the greatest "sonero" of all time... Maelo gets the nod because of longevity. But man o man!! Chamaco is the Truth... Trucutu is the Gem. Plante Bandera is just the Anthem of the 70's. Seirously Chamaco is on FIRE in this album... Based on this album alone I would induct Chamaco Ramirez into Salsa's Hall of Fame.. That good!! Get this now!! Now!! Whew...
One of the 1970s Salsa era's high points...and a real masterpiece too........2006-09-14
No serious salsero should miss out on this CD as it's one of the greatest Puerto Rican Salsa recordings ever made. Olivencia and company give us some searing-hot and very funky "Salsa Dura" grooves suchas "Evelio Y La Rumba", "Si Estas Herido", "Casimira", "A La Yumbae" and the timeless title track. The late Chamaco Ramirez gives some of his wittiest, funkiest and powerful soneos (improvisations) which serve as a perfect compliment to the musicians' take-no-prisoners and fiery playing. This new and digitally remastered version offers considerably better sound quality than the previously available CD and at a lower price. If you don't yet have this CD all I can say is... GET IT Now!!!

A Great Reason to Move to Texas.......2004-07-28
This is a collection from Rosie Flores' three albums for Hightone Records. It is harder edged, more varied country than you're likely to find on a dozen CDs. To my taste, the first two cuts are the least interesting, mid-tempo generic country rockers that sound like Rosie's bid to get something, anything, played on the hundreds of Big Country 103, Today's Country pablum stations across the country. She should never have bothered, for it's when she revs up her own musical signatures that Bandera Highway becomes a superb collection. West Texas Plains is a sweet ballad of loneliness in big, empty spaces. Love and Danger, a duet with Joe Ely, describes a couple trying to resurrect the excitement of just being together. It is edgy with longing and a sense of last chance. Bandera Highway is a unsentimental but affectionate return-home-from-the-road-and-leave-again song. Rockabilly and two-step kick in with two of the album's best songs, Honky Tonk Moon and His Rockin' Little Angel, including backing vocals from that eternal bad girl Wanda Jackson. You also get Texas blues in Blues Keep Callin and Butch Hancock's Boxcars. It all winds up with a song that channels the lovely harmonies of old Everly Brothers singles from the late 50s and early 60s, Don't Let Our Love Die. Excellent playing throughout too, including some honky tonk keyboards and plenty of pedal steel.
An oddity -- on my copy of the CD at least, the track listing is out of order for Boxcars and Rockin' Little Angel.
Aside from her considerable vocal and guitar talents, Flores wrote or co-wrote many of the songs here. She's got a distinctive and impressive niche, deserves much wider recognition, and with Bandera Highway shows why.
