Customer Reviews:
Excellent musicians on this Palmieri album.......2005-03-05
This album features excellent trumpet solos by Victor Paz and the always powerful trombone playing of Barry Rogers. Add to the mix the solid and steady percussion of Nicky Marrero on timbales, Eladio Perez on conga, and Tommy "Chuckie" Lopez on bongo. Eddie also takes some killer solos, as usual.
Still the Sun.......2002-06-25
Eddie Palmieri is one of my favorite musicians of all time. His ability to blend traditional afro-Cuban rythms and traditional is jazz is brilliant. All of the cuts on this album are great and deserve great admiration from any Latin jazz fan. I highly recommend it to all.
Palmieri still king.......2002-06-22
Eddie Palmieri, a pioneer of Latin Jazz is at his best on this work. This is one of his original works and I still love it. His Afro-Cuban roots are more apparent than ever on this work. A must have for any Latin Jazz fan, or anyone who just wants to groove.
Eddie Palmieri: poderoso senor del piano.......2001-11-23
Eddie Palmieri is Eddie palmieri is Eddie Palmieri. The Lord. The Piano Man. The orchesta riffs, the sweaty and hell-fast bongo player (his name's Choki). The singer. Pardon me: the sirene-wailing singer. Lalo Rodriguez "la trepa en la China" (an expression for salsa climaxes). This CD is a classic. Well, it won a Grammy!
Eddie's new begining.......2000-11-20
This is Eddie's first post "La Perfecta Orchestra" days where Eddie uses an unusually large and variable brass section; trumpets,t-bones, saxs, tubas, flutes and french horns. That and his great rhythm section provides excellent tumbaos and marvelous solos. The 16 year old Lalo Rodriguez really show the salsa world he was here to stay. Eddie's "Nada de ti" has to be one of the greatest salsa songs ever recorded. Everybody gets down on this one. This is without question one of Eddie's five best recordings.

Customer Reviews:
This CD's a Keeper!.......2004-07-10
Whether you're already a Sharon Isbin fan, or haven't yet heard her play, if you don't own this CD you are missing an essential piece of your collection. Road to the Sun is one of the CDs most often in my player, and it makes a great accompaniment to Journey to the Amazon, another Isbin favorite.
Hit the "Road to the Sun".......2004-05-16
Isbin's playing is weak in technique, tone, interpretation, and program choice. Rodrigo's "Invocacion y danza", in particular, lacks the depth and darkness required for this piece and sounds rushed and mechanical. No need for embellishments. Those who have ears (or spmething between) will hear.
Fiery, then mellow, in a nice mixture..........2002-06-13
This is an impressive performance. Since I am neither a guitarist nor a scholar of the classics, I can't tell you how skilled she is compared to others like Segovia, Liona Boyd, John Williams, Chris Parkening, etc. I can't tell you whether these selections have been done better, either. All I can say is that she has produced a CD which is a joy to hear, and holds up under repeated play. A couple of years ago I bought the "Amazon Journey" CD of hers, but I was disappointed in it...too bland for me. This one is better.
Isbin Is Great.......2000-10-18
These are excellent performances by Sharon Isbin of works from the guitar repertoire. Even if you have other recordings of some of these works, that should not deter you from acquiring this recording, for as Sharon Isbin performs them, you may find that you're hearing them again for the very first time.
Pure, pristine, inspired performance!.......1998-11-14
If only we wrote as eloquently as Ms. Isbin performs! From the very first note, the listener's mesmerized by the strength and honesty of her virtuoso guitar. No need for embellishment here: she performs each classical piece faithfully -- and brilliantly -- from the heart!

Album Description
At the end of the last century, while the representative music of Mexico was emerging in the state of Jalisco, Mexican-Americans in the United States continued to cultivate their own traditions. Among the most valued aspects of their heritage was music.
In 1964, an Irish-Catholic priest organized the first young Mariachi group of Mexican-Americans in the United States. Later, in 1971, after having collaborated almost from the birth of this group, Randy Carrillo, a student, organized Mariachi Cobre with the participation of his younger brother Steve and his friend Mack Ruiz.
1996 marks a quarter century during which this extremely professional group of young Mexican-American men (nearly all from Tucson) have sung and played the music of Mexico, not only in the United States but as ambassadors in other countries and via international television.
In 1981, Mariachi Cobre planted the seed from which the Tucson International Mariachi Conference would grow. This celebration is a concept that has spread to other U.S. cities where similar events are held. These cultural events have not only increased the exposure of Mariachi music but have caused an emergence of dozens of young groups and have heightened the level of study related to Mariachi music.
The XXV anniversary celebration is a source of pride for the renowned Mariachi Cobre who, with their strong sense of tradition, promotes the music of Mexico to the entire world.

From "Ugly Little Monkeys" to "The Best in Mariachi Music".......2004-11-29
I grew up with Randy and Stevie Carrillo when we were kids on Eastland St. in Tucson. I was always envious (in a good way) at how well they played Mariachi Music when they first started out with Los Changitos Feos (Ugly Little Monkeys). I had heard them play many times with Changos, but did not have the chance to follow their careers until recently. I am ashamed to say I sure missed a lot, but I can "catch up" with all of their CD's. Mac Ruiz was also a distant friend, and he as well as the rest of the Changos have surely gone far in their careers. It must make their parents and families extrememly proud of them. If you want a REAL SAMPLE of what Mariachi music is all about, buy any one of their CD's. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. (But your legs and feet will be tired from keeping the beat!!!)

It's amazing that such a mariachi exists.......2003-09-14
Probably the best interpreters of the son jalisciense today, Cobre begins with the son "El Jilguerillo." This son has not been recorded a lot. I remember only Mariachi Oro y Plata and some really old recordings of Mariachi Vargas and Mariachi Tapatio. Mariachi Camperos recently recorded it. Steve Carrillo is perhaps one of the best arrangers in mariachi today. Listen, especially, to how the violins match the vihuala strumming. Their son duet singing is very good, although I would have like that they just stuck to two singers instead of switching every verse. "Popurri Pancho Villa" is one of my all time favorites. They give those yells reminicent of Franciso "El Charro" Avita and their corrido duets sould wonderful. Franciso Grijalva, Cobre's guitarrist has been a longtime fan of the nostalgia generation of Mexican music. His arrangement of "Maria Elena" is very beautiful. I have never heard a mariachi perform it with the lyrics. Steve Carrillo sings it with good style. Remember that this was one of the world's most famous songs when it came out. All I can say is "wow" to their renditin of Los Arrieros. There has not been such a good rendition of this son since Mariachi Vargas "Sones de Jalisco" album. There is a little bridge that is an honor to Mariachi Mexico's recordings with Memo Quintero and and Pepe Gutierrez in their album "El Autentico Son Jalisciense." With exception of Los Camperos, most show mariachis butcher sones jaliscienses today. There are some very well done trio boleros. "La Barca" has just a few year before been rerecorded by Luis Miguel and gained a huge following. Los Hnos. Cantoral made it a hit many years ago. I liked Molina's interpretation there as well has the trio arrangements. "Cuando Lloran Los Hombres" is sung by Randy Carillo. Randy only sung one song on their first album. He's come a long way with this Jose Alfredo classic. Mack Ruiz sings a good "El Cenzontle." Anyone going to Cobre's workshops at mariachi conferences remembers this song. Lalo Guerrero has been a hero to many of Cobre's members, most of them being from Tucson, AZ. Guerrero's classic "Nunca Jamas" is given here.
I first saw "Popurri Jorge Negrete" when Univision use to televise the Tucson mariachi conference. Steve Carrillo starts off with a good "Dulce Patria" and "Noche Plateada" Few can match Negrete, but Carrillo comes close. What I love is Mack Ruiz low voice in "Cuando Quiere Un Mexicano." Randy Carrillo sings "Tequila con Limon" with oumph. Miguel Martinez "La chuparrosa" is a trumpet gem. Steve Carrillo and Israel really pull it off well.
Solid Adobe Wall of Sound!.......2003-02-15
An excellent album whether one is an established mariachi fan or a newcomer. The production values are outstanding, the instrumentation unbelievably tight, and the vocals enormously pleasing. In mariachi, Everybody Sings, and this album makes you glad they do! Los Changitos Feos have come a long way, and this is probably their best album to date. My only complaint is that they should record more.
muy muy muy bueno muy mucho mas mas bueno.......2001-05-17
Muy bueno! Musica excellente! Megusta mucho Mariachi Cobre! Viva Cobre!
A must CD very mariachi lovers........1999-01-04
Mariachi Cobre is one of the best mariachi's I've heard. They are truly one of the great mariachi's in the world. Each song is sung and played like no other. If you like mariachi music, this is one that you must buy for your collection.

Album Description
The Brazilian jazz-rock band, Azymuth, is noted for its infectious blend of bossa nova melodies, hot samba rhythms, a splash of funk, and a dash of rock and roll. On Black Sun's reissue of
Outubro, it proves to be a winning combination. This spirited ensemble tackles everything from the Flora Purim/Stanley Clarke classic, Light As A Feather (live version), to the electric energy of 500 Miles High, made famous by Chick Corea, to a host of spicy originals by Azymuth leader Jose Roberto Bertrami.
Throughout
Outubro, the musicians travel a fine line between technical innovation and the acoustic fury of their Brazilian heritage. Each member of this multi-faceted trio plays a vast array of South American percussion instruments with passion and precision. Synthesizers, vocoders, guitars, and electric bass add fuel to the fire, making it virtually impossible to sit still while listening to the recording. This music is irresistible; it makes you want to get up and dance. Black Sun's new version of the album also includes six additional cuts recorded live at Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Palace, illustrating why Azymuth's early concert tours of the United States in the late 70s solidified the band's recording career.
Customer Reviews:
This is my all time favorite by Azymuth.......2007-06-11
I recently purchased this cd a couple of months ago because I previously had on vinyl. I had almost forgotten how special Outubro was to me. Everything including the live portion of this disc is acoustically correct. I also had also bought Telecommunication again on disc a few years back. Since ordering Outubro, I've purchased at least 3 more Azymuth cd's. Everyone that I've played Outubro for has fallen under the spell of Azymuth. This Supergroup is truly unique and amazing. You must also check out the bassists(Alex Malheiros) daughter Sabrina Malheiros's new cd. Her debut solo cd is simply superb! I can't wait for her next effort and would love to see her tour here in the states.
Samba Fusion - Si,Si,Si...!!!.......2006-12-31
Latin rhythms combined with jazz improvisation has provided the world with some of the most engaging and passionate music that has ever existed; and this bonus release version of the 'Outubro' album by Brazilian fusion group Azymuth is an outstanding example of all the facets of what makes this kind of music cross-culturally appealing and extremely enjoyable to listen to - and dance to. It may seem odd to some listeners that jazz - flavored music could be characterized as "danceable" - but; in fact - the samba rhythms; like Cuban salsa and the Spanish cumbias are indeed meant for celebration. And in the music of stellar Brazilian musicians such as Jose Roberto Bertrami, Alex Malheiros and Ivan Conti you will find a lot to dance to and listen to! My brother and I first discovered this band when we began delving into other types of music during the latter half of the 1970's and early 1980's when so-called jazz fusion music was just beginning to gain notoriety and popular acceptance. We enjoyed having and knowing about fresh things that not everyone was immediately open to. And we have our mom to thank for thoroughly supporting our musical interests from the time when we were still youngsters. Her love for good music probably is what moved both of us toward eventually becoming involved in music-related careers(I went into entertainment electronics, staging, live music production and recording studio engineering after a brief stint of playing drums and singing; while he veered towards deejaying; music programming and broadcasting - working in dance clubs and the radio industry). We were always reading the liner notes and album cover information to learn more about the artists who made the music we enjoyed so much; and these guys have continually ranked among our many favorite 'discoveries'. The original release of the 'Outubro' album, on vinyl; was monumental for both of us(he kept our original copy and I repurchased it again on wax after I moved out to the West Coast - before I found the compact disc version)and now the cycle is complete with this re-release of the special Black Sun CD(with bonus 'live' tracks)once again being available(there were only limited copies when it was first issued back in 1983/84). I grabbed a CD copy without hesitation when it was still over 25 dollars per unit and now I've ordered it for him as well. If you can get your hands on the CD version; you will have something truly special! I have heard other deejays who program Azymuth's songs into their music sets and it's always a 'hit' with the crowds! Other reviewers have already commented on the specifics of the songs of this album and their appeal - there is nothing more to add other than just giving the affirmative 'nod' of agreement - this simply is great music by great artists!!
Awesome Brazilian Rhythms and Brazilian Funky Jazz !!!!!.......2002-04-13
The Editorial Review has actually said it all about this fantastic group and album; I'm just adding my tiny contribution to an immense project. This is one of Azymuth's first albums back in 79-80 and still sounds as fresh, imaginative and skilfull as any contemporary album in the same category. The best cuts are: Dear Limmertz, Un Amigo (A Friend), Partido Alto (High Game), and Fly Over the Horizon. If you like Brazilian rhythmic music and Funky Jazz, this is without a doubt a perfect album for you.!!!
Excellent Fusion.......2000-01-31
I bought this album when it was originally released in 1980, and still sounds fresh 20 years later. Mixing traditional Brazilian samba with jazz fusion, Outubro(October for those who don't speak Portugeuse) is one of Azymuth's best albums. The extremely funky "Dear Limmertz" is worth the price of admission alone. Plus this CD reissue contains previously unreleased live tracks to make this already great album even better.

Album Description
Against all odds, keyboardist Jose Roberto Bertrami and his Brazilian jazz-rock band, Azymuth, made quite a name for themselves in the early 1980s, playing an infectious music that blended the subtle melodies of bossa nova with hot samba rhythms and a dash of rock and roll.
Light As A Feather, the group's first release, is filled with fiery Brazilian sounds and the kind of beats that make you want to get up and dance. This fusion classic is available through a special CD only release on the Black Sun label, thanks to their producer, Joel Leibovitz.
Light As A Feather is a superb introduction to the many talents of the Brazilian band which accompanied Flora Purim on her critically acclaimed 1978 American tour. It was Purim's assertion that Azymuth was the best group in Brazil today that gained United States exposure for the group in their own right. A textural delight,
Light As A Feather features a seemingly endless variety of exotic percussion devices tastefully blended together with the uniquely spiced outpourings of Bertrami's synthesizers. The Flora Purim/Stanley Clarke title track is an ethereal standout, while the Azymuth original Jazz Carnival offers an extended jaunt through electrifying solos and heated percussion licks against a throbbing dance beat. In fact, it was this cut which propelled
Light As A Feather to the top 10 in jazz charts worldwide.
Customer Reviews:
One of Azymuth's best...the sexiest music!.......2002-12-05
I heard my first Azymuth in 1981 and was hooked. I bought every album by the group, and when they slowed down, I bought everything I could find by Alex Malheiros, Jose Roberto Bertrami and Ivan Conti. Now I am collecting the music on CD. Why? Because I never grow tired of hearing this great music, and Light As A Feather is one of their best albums. My favorite tracks include Partido Alto and Light As A Feather, which are sexy and funky. You will also go for Avenida das Mangueiras. The music gets into your body, and you can't stay still. Awesome.

Product Description
The hypnotic rhythms of Aztec drums and hautning sounds of Mesoamerican wind instruments blend with the seven voice of SAVAE in this companior recording to their bestselling "Guadalupe: Virgen de Los Indios." The music, dating from the mid-16th century reflects the unprecedentd vangelization that occurred as result of the appearance of the Virgin Mary to the Nahua Inidan Juan Dieo in 1531.
Customer Reviews:
SAVAE IS A HIDDEN TREASURE.......2005-08-09
I did not know much about SAVAE or this recording until I attended the annual conference of the Hymn Society of the US and Canada, which met in San Antonio, TX this year. There, I had the wonderful experience of a workshop with several members of SAVAE, in which we sang and clapped the complex melodies and rhythms of the music, and were introduced to some of the indigenous language, as well as the various drums, stones and flutes they used for accompaniment. Later in the conference, we (some 300 of us) were treated to a sublime concert, which included some of the pieces on this recording. We also got to sight-read three pieces from their upcoming CD of Christmas music from the same era. I don't think they had ever performed before so larga and appreciative an audience. This group deserves to be discovered by lovers of Early Music everywhere!
Culturally pleasing..........2003-06-19
In the album, El Milagro de Guadalupe, SAVAE clearly demonstrate their ability to cross-cultures and to unite or fuse the commonalities without difficulty. The sacred music somehow seems so much more holy in this context. The vocalists are quite talented singers and linguists. Overall a very pleasant cd and would recommend it to others.
Let tell you something..........2002-06-14
This is not what I think that
the Spaniards would wanted done,
in actual practice. This is all
sacred music all performed on
native aztec instruments, not
a single significant part for
convetional European instrument.
In most poor congregation in colonial
Latin-America, there would at least
be an organ, or a gitar, in the poorest
congregations, if an organ was out
of the question, a pair of recorders
would do just fine for church services.
There are better versions out there of
colonial Latin-American music.
Unbelievable.......2001-11-09
I was given this CD as a gift and I must say that it is the most incredible thing I have ever heard. There is something about it's "earthyness" that attracts my friends and I to it. I hope that SAVAE is around for a long time and that they keep blessing the world with their music.
Modern Aztec Interpretations.......2000-11-02
The music on this CD is in a word, ethereal. Beautiful choral music fused with Aztec instruments for a listening experience to not be forgotten nor matched in sheer beauty. The Nahuatl language is a joy to the ears, it speaks in whispers of a time long forgotten. The playing of indigenous Aztec instruments transports the listeners to another time period, a time without cars and planes, and the hectic schedules associated with modern times. Put this CD on and relax, it is hauntingly beautiful. The songs are all superb, inspiring one to transend the mundane to elevate to a higher plane. I don't know about 6+5+4 beats but I do know that the complex rhythmns astound the soul. The inspiration for this CD is La Virgen de Guadalupe and her grace must have bestowed supernatural powers on this recording because it is excellent. If you know of any devotees of La Virgen de Guadalupe this is an excellent choice to give them. The music is so different from anything you may have heard before. A revival of Aztec music, by a superb group of choral singers and musicians that is breathtaking. Put this CD on to listen to your inner sanctum, you might like what you hear, it is music for your soul. A real jewel, file this under inspiration.
