Amazon.com essential recording
If you have any trouble jumpstarting the fun at your next party, throw on Llego... Van Van--or just about any other Los Van Van CD for that matter. This 15-piece ensemble is back celebrating its 30th anniversary of togetherness while packing another album with its signature high-energy Cuban salsa, mixing traditional Latin melodies into contemporary originals that wander into funk and jazz territory. Listeners can ever rely on Los Van Van for letting it all hang out in thriving timbales and percussion, blazing horn lines, flittering flute, and roaring vocals with infectious call-and-response chant. And this album is simply no exception. Leader Juan Formell puts forth such playful songs as "Temba, Tumba y Timba" and "Mi Chocolate" along with red-hot jams featuring luscious solos, as the piano, timbales, and trombone attest on "Consuelate Como Yo." There's also a glittering parade of singers here--including Roberto Hernandez, Mario Rivera, and Pedro Calvo--who seamlessly slide the mic back and forth to lead the rousing, throbbing festival, which, thankfully, lasts for a solid 60 minutes. --Karen Karleski

Van Van Son Negros Muy Bien Cuidao-- Ten Cuidado!.......2005-12-02
Original Cuban Sound.......2004-03-10
If you really really like salsa, you have to listen to this band and this CD. Salsa bands have different sounds, and los Van Van have a special style that you can recognize even if you don't know who is singing. This music is a great example of the simplicity and happiness of the true Cuban people, without mentioning anything related to politics or hidden political messages. This is Cuba's and the Caribean's flavor. The cd transports you to the caribean, and you can get a taste of its people and its culture just by listening to it.
The best Van Van album to date!.......2003-09-11
This Grammy-winner album is by far Van Van's best timba album to date. The quality of the recording is excellent and captures their strong sound as if playing live. Mayito, Guayacan, and Pedrito Calvo are at their best. This is also the last recording Cesar Pedroso made with Van Van before starting his own band. The lyrics and "coros" are solid through out the album. If you like Van Van this CD is money-back guaranteed. There was an issue with the record company not giving this album the exposure it deserved, being it a Grammy winner and all... heartbreaking as tracks #1 through #9 could all be hit singles. I'm a die-hard salsa fan (70s-80s-90s) and this was the first timba album I bought. I have a 600+ CD/LP salsa collection and must say that together with Adalberto Alvarez's "Jugando con Candela" and Manolito y su Trabuco's "Se Rompieron los Termometros" this CD is the best contemporary Cuban timba/salsa I own.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.......2003-03-11
This is one of the best Salsa CD's out there. The quality of the recordings is great and all the songs are full of energy and charisma. For those who critize the lyrics, why don't you stop blabbering and just start dancing, and you'll see how every word fits perfectly when you dance to it. And don't forget, Van Van is band that plays for the dancer and any listener should have trouble staying still and wonder what the meaning behind the lyrics are(If you really want to waste your time interpreting lyrics, listening to Silvio Rodriguez). Van Van is for dancing, Van Van is to lighten up your day, Van Van is to sweat off those calories and flavor up your life. If you like to dance Salsa, this is a CD for you. If you like Van Van, this is their last masterpiece of the millenium, by far the best recording quality, the last CD with Pedro Calvo, and grammy winner of Best Salsa CD 1999.

A piece of Cuba........2000-11-23
If you want to go to Cuba without flying, this is the way: listen to this CD, you are there! In my opinion this is the masterpiece of contemporary cuban salsa. I bought it one year ago, and by far it is my best salsa CD.

La Princesa's debut in Salsa!.......2005-07-15
What a great album by India! I love the songs.. Yemaya y Ochun, Mi primera Rumba and Vivir sin Ti. This is a must have for all India fans!
I love "Llego La India Via Eddie" because the song's are extremely well-made and danceable. My favorite song's are the ballad "soletude" and the salsa song "mi primera rumba". Also la India looks very pretty on the CD cover! This album is an excellent example of Puerto Rican "Salsa" music!
If you're from India and like to know about salsa. I recommend this CD! It has lyrics in both english and spanish that you should find very sexy and danceable.
The Princess of Salsa with a piano master.......2003-05-12
Even though I am not much of a fan of Salsa music, especially today's salsa exponents, I can't help but be captivated by La India. She is one of the most popular female vocalists ever. But her voice really shines in here. Her "soneo", which means vocal improvising (not scat - it involves improvising lyrics based on a refrain) is absolutely enthralling. At the time of this CD she was not yet too well-known - nowadays she is, in the words of Celia Cruz (a pillar of Latin music), the undisputed Princess of Salsa. Her more recent albums have included ballads that lean more to latin-pop, but fortunately not sappy or sugary at all. Her intense delivery is always a delight for the ears and the soul. The only thing that made me not give this a full score is the fact that we get the song "Solitude" in 3 versions. I think that's a bit much of the same. But nonetheless, this is a fine introduction to one of the most fiery, and passionate vocalists you are likely to find. La India is definitely a rare talent, and she is from Puerto Rico, so it makes me proud.
Llego La India.......2001-04-20
La India pours her heart and soul into the bi-lingual version of "Soledad." If you enjoy ballads, this is it. Eddie Palmieri with his smooth sound is without a doubt, delicous! Together they work up a swinging "Vivir Sin Ti." Check it out.

Customer Reviews:
Great Salsa CD.......2005-04-19
This is one of the best, most danceable salsa albums to come out in the past few years. George Delgado has played congas and percussion with many of the best current New York salsa bands. This is his debut album as a bandleader and his playing is solid, creative, and SWINGS on every tune. The arrangements are hot, all the tunes are danceable, and the main lead singer Julio Salgado has a great style from the school that includes Cheo Feliciano and El Gran Combo. "A Mi Me Gusta" features beautiful solos by Jimmy Bosch, Ricky Gonzalez on piano, Nelson Gonzalez on tres, Gerry Madera on bass and others. Great playing also by Luis Bonilla and Reinaldo Jorge on trombone, Herman Oliveras on vocals, Johnny Rodriguez on bongos, and too many others to mention, with outstanding mastering by Bob Katz, make this one of the hottest and best sounding salsa CDs I have heard in the last few years. My one complaint is that this CD is hard to get. It is not available at many record stores, or at most internet sites including Amazon.com. The album seems to be more available in Germany, France, Japan, and Italy than in the U.S. I don't know why this is, but I hope the distributors fix the problem soon, because a lot of people are missing out on a truly great CD.
